They've been having deep conversations in Mo's dressing room since JJ was 11 years old. Back in the day Mo would crank call random people including JJ. He stopped when he scared some random woman into going to the Mall to pick up her kid late at night. Mo crank calling people in his 30s like a teenager speaks volumes about him imo. JJ's father is a doctor, still running his practice and also a singer.

Mo bragging about being paid "nice money" to speak for 30 minutes at some mental health conference in Philly.

JJ and his family have evolved to an Eastern, ancient ethos way of Christianity over the past 15 years as opposed to Western Christianity. He recommends a book called The Ethics of Beauty. JJ goes to Greece often, speaks of the monks there who pray all day for the world.

Mo says when he had his breakdown four months ago he was alone (family out of town?), and Jonathan and Steve prayed with him for two days and it helped.

JJ doesn't believe in "compartmentalizing" when it comes to religion or anything, everything is connected. He said a bunch of other religiousy things that lost my interest and my mind wandered and I didn't feel like rewinding.

JJ briefly met his wife when she was on GH, they overlapped for a short time but then he left. She came to bible studies at his house, they never had a date, only together in group settings. Then he went over to her apartment one night when he was 19 and proposed having never even been on a date together. They got married when he was 20. He appreciates her Italian heritage and culture and is glad he got married young.

They didn't discuss his GH return or anything about GH. Mo spoke more about himself than JJ did about himself.

I don't care for his soft spoken manner. He has the same small pursed mouth like Chad Duell that I don't like. That's my pointless bitchery.

Alexa's hiring was almost spilled prematurely by the press as well; some fans of Monaco were blaming "NewNew Lulu" for taking Sam's spot. Many are expressing their impatience with this particular story.

R68 Ron's Port Charles arc consisted of Alison and Lucy both mistaking Sam/John McBain for Livvie/Caleb; they were both concerned about Caleb wreaking havoc. Alison wanted to protect Rafe Jr. from his father, while Lucy wanted to protect the city. Lucy was deemed delusional after Alison was killed, for no one else believed the vampires ever existed. Kevin being Livvie's father was also apparently not true; Caleb was actually referenced as being a serial killer. At the climax of the storyline, Caleb walks out of the morgue putting on his ring, hinting that the vampires were actually there all along.

Someone mentioned on the GH subreddit that Kelly Monaco should do Hallmark movies now and Ryan Paevey's name came up.

I don't watch Hallmark but this led me down a rabbit hole of reading Hallmark subreddit threads about Ryan. I was surprised to learn he's a "douche", bad tempered, not nice to his female co-stars and always accusing someone of ripping him off. He even went on social media to complain Hallmark didn't pay him what he was owed. Hallmark in turn had to have SAG explain to him how residuals work. He then tried to apologize on social media for the misunderstanding but it was too late to repair the damage.

I always thought the problems at the end of his run on GH were solely to do with Kirsten and her issues but maybe he was no picnic either?

R107 R108 Ryan Paevey asked to be written out (not too much different than his onscreen sister/cousin Kelly Thiebaud did after him) after Frank initially tried to get him to stay. He then tried to return down the line (also like Kelly T. did after she asked to leave) only for Frank to turn him down. Ryan did have issues with Kirsten, Brytni Sarpy (after they stopped dating), etc.

Should add that Kirsten and Brytni both made up with Ryan; Brytni says that they'll always be friends.

Teenage/early 20s "actors" with zero acting experience should not be put on contract so they can easily be written out. In the rare case of a NAC type find, they can always put the person on contract if their acting turns out to be above expectations and the character catches on.

They waited to put Kristen Vaganos/Molly on contract. Why did this goofy Gio kid get an immediate contract?

Even if they give him an interesting paternity story line, he's too lightweight and green to carry a story line.

I should mention that Erin Hershey Presley's Alison Barrington, originally from GH, predated Frons, along with Monaco's Livvie.

Frons also manipulated the situation regarding Monaco joining GH by forcing her upon the writers, including placing her into Jason/Courtney's relationship after Sam's failure to launch with neither Sonny or Jax.

Almost doesn't count for Jessica Morris jumping ship from OLTL as Jennifer to Courtney on GH, especially since Guza was adamant that Courtney stay away, while Rib Hillis was long gone from PC when Monaco arrived as Livvie.

Frons considered shoehorning Budig on GH twice, once as Brenda in 2005/2006 (after she quit AMC, when Greenlee left town) then again as Elizabeth in 2011 so if it were different circumstances, Budig and Monaco would have been in each other's path prior to the arrival of Hayden, who technically was involved more with Elizabeth than Sam anyway.

God, I detested the Laurelton mystery storyline with hysterical Terry Brock at the center. But the one saving grace of that horrible, never-ending mess was the introduction of Lucy Coe.

By day, she was a sad, mousy, meek, no-life librarian who you had to pity. Lynn Herring, with no make-up, was so convincing that when Lucy was revealed to actually be a hot, vixen who was the lover of a serial killer, my mouth dropped to the floor.

My favorite thing was all of the men of Port Charles falling for the Lucy as victim act but the women of PC clocked her number quick. Lucy would get into vicious fights in the hospital elevator and as soon as the doors opened, she would run out sobbing as if she had been cruelly attacked.

It was so outrageous. Lynn was brilliant.

Esme was so close to Lucy that I was sure that she was meant to be her daughter.

Well, by the time GH goes off the air it will have morphed completely into The Guiding Light.

Speaking of Esme, I'm surprised Avery Kristen Pohl hasn't popped up on any other soaps or Hallmark or even as a guest on an ABC sitcom or drama.

I really think Jonathan Jackson is ONLY back for the $$. He's phoning it in. For years Lucky has been a deadbeat Dad and the show can't rewrite that. The heyday of "Lucky and Liz" have been over for decades. Liz has been through lots of men = Zander, AJ, Jason, Nicholas, Ewan, Franco, Hamilton, Drew, etc etc......I don't see any potential storyline for Lucky.

I was initially very glad to see Jonathan Jackson back. I did enjoy the scenes in Africa with Sidwell with JJ showing he could play a younger version of Luke.

Since JJ has been back in Port Charles, its been snooze city. Granted everything is stuck in limbo waiting for Lulu to finally wake up, but they're barely giving Lucky anything to do and what they do give him, JJ does indeed seem to be phoning it in.

Maybe these writers just don't know what to do with Lucky since he's been off screen since 2011 (except for that brief return for Tony Geary's farewell).

R311 = I agree the early scenes (and twisty Holly return) were pretty good. But now it's just Snoozeville for Lucky. And too much Lucas. Every Lucas has been handsome. Ryan Carnes should have returned instead of GH throwing out fem VH.

What I loved about Ryan Carnes' performance as Lucas was that he didn't fit the stereotype -- he was just himself. The masculinity is missing in VH's interpretation of Lucas, turning him into just another gay soap character.

I'm behind in episodes and just skip-watching Sam's-dead scenes. Whatever happened to the rumor that she was murdered by Cyrus? Did she really just die of a heart attack? I'd be surprised if they went that route since it would cast a negative light on organ donation.

Also, I should be the epitome of the fail at GH. I'm a long-time viewer, on and off since 1981. I quit (again) about 2-3 years ago and have been tuning in to gleefully watch Sam's death. I'm sure I'm not the only return viewer brought in by that spectacle, so the show should be doing all it can to get me hooked again. Yet, I couldn't care less. Not even about the vets. The whole Willow/Drew/Sasha/Michael/Nina/Cody cluster fuck is so boring and insipid (really, a YUGE scandal about an unmarried politician allegedly kissing his nephew's wife?) Couldn't care less about Robert and Holly and Diane. All the kids are interchangeable. WAY too much Carly. As soon as Sam is put in the ground, I'm checking out again.

I'm reading on reddit that NAC did a lot of ad-libbing. I had never heard that before. I thought TPTB at GH have always been very militant about sticking to the script. Stafford even mentioned that she missed the freedom she had at Y&R to throw in lines and physicality.

Anyway, if this is true, I would imagine NAC taking such liberties didn't help endear him to sputtering Mo who would consider such privileges reserved for himself and Tony Geary.

However, ever since Chris and Dan were paired up as head writers, there has been somewhat more leniency in ad libbing and improvising. The scene where Trina leapt into Spencer's arms was completely improvised. Alley Mills remember was also informed by Chris to change the script when she told him she didn't like the direction Patrick Mulcahey had for Heather. Frank doesn't seem as strict in that aspect anymore, for the most part; if anything, Nathan is allowing it to (such as Laura Wright suggesting Jason and Britt break up for Jason/Carly)

Let's not conflate having storyline input and changing lines. Changing lines drives everyone crazy...the co-star (who is waiting for his or her cue), the cameramen (who use the lines to know which camera to switch to), the director (who wants to control what goes on on set), etc.

Not much has really changed in the last 5 (or 10?) years. The constant addition/reintroduction/excising of characters functions to distract viewers (and excuse writers) from an endless list of unresolved stories. I watch out of habit (and some hope), but it's rarely a satisfying endeavor.

The "Third Victoria" was interviewed by the Television Academy and when asked if she was able to adlib, she became haughty and almost indignant that an actor must NEVER change the written word.

The reddit thread recounted that at a fan event NAC said he ad libbed when they were being held on the boat by Victor and he picked up a vase and prepared to hit whoever came through the door with it and it was Trina which really caught her off guard.

I recall years ago Finola on that soap show Lisa Rinna hosted saying that Tristan Rogers was a major ad libber in their heyday. The only way Finola knew when it was her turn to speak was when his mouth stopped moving. She said she slugged him once after a scene when he had gone so far astray from the script and left her hanging.

R343 That's not what I was trying to do, I was mainly pointing out how things are different from when Michelle was there, as opposed to now. Frank wouldn't even let Finola or Kimberly McCullough direct episodes, yet it's still somewhat interesting that Laura Wright changed an entirely good storyline with Jason and Britt falling in love, in an effort to live out her fantasies of being involved with Steve and running the mob. I wasn't minimizing or conflating the situations.

R346 Ad-libbing/improvising in that sense is similar to Tabyana's, with the leap into NAC's arms.

Right there were actors like Tony Geary who were huge "offenders" like Tristan, with actors like Finola that weren't always up for that, which is completely understandable. On the flip side of that, there's actors like Ted King, who enjoyed his scenes with Tony, particularly when he'd add additional lines.

R349 Josh definitely looks the part. Speaking of Superman, Justin Bruening was actually up for the part in Superman Returns until Brandon Routh was chosen.

These shows are basically back to the days of live to tape. They want one shot and move on. Ad-libbing, deviating from the script in any way, can lead to retakes, reshoots, missed cues, etc. Anything that slows production down costs money. GH recently got hit with a significant budget cut, it's not pretty over there.

As for Alley Mills, there would have been no need for a recast or the character to come back ever, if they hadn't retconned their planned Esme storyline. It was a last-minute solution that made no fucking sense, but was forced on them. The original story with Ryan and Esme terrorizing Felicia and Ava was better. Heather wasn't supposed to be the ice hook killer either, but I think that was always discussed on here.

So, back at the end of August, Sonny shot Jagger in cold blood outside the Quatermaine boathouse and Michael witnessed it.

And now it seems the show has just abandoned that plot point completely and Sonny will get away with murder once again, just like he got away with murdering AJ back in 2014.

And Josh Swickard has no storyline.

But since then, we haven't had a Sonny focused storyline. At Sam's funeral, he was basically just a background player. In the very recent past, we would have gotten 20 minutes of Sonny speaking at the funeral.

The show can't just quit Sonny cold turkey. We might be seeing the slow fade out of the character on the show

I’d have Sonny try to get out of the mob and join the corporate world. Him against ELQ and Tracy would feel fresh!

A really interesting development might be Sonny coming to realize that he has been wrong all along in believing that he could mete out justice and that his mob activities (whatever they are) were actually hurting and cheating people, and that wrapping himself in devotion to family and loyalty did not entitle him to act in any way he wishes. After that painful process, he would have no particular value to the show and could be written out. Interesting that the show never bothers to mention that, in killing Jagger, he left Jagger's son fatherless. If Sonny is so powerful, could he not have found some other way to neutralize Jagger as a threat to his family? Or perhaps he could have simply turned Jagger into the FBI for trying to have Ava killed.

Has fickle Frank and his team of beleaguered writers decided what they are going to do with Isaiah yet?

Jordan? Molly? Mystery wife or girlfriend or boyfriend going to show up in PC?

Whatever the case, I'm sure Frank & Co. will find a way to waste this talented actor.

What happened to Anna's vow to track down Charlotte and bring her back to her mother? I know Lulu got her liver but won't she still want to see her daughter? Or wouldn't her daughter want to see her mother in case she kicks the bucket?

Also, Charlotte lived with Sam & Dante's "family" for a while when Valentin was doing whatever. Why don't Danny,Rocco or Dante ever mention her as part of their "family"?

I hope that, after Drew and Jason (and maybe Alexis) battle over custody of Danny, they conclude that Danny should live with Scout, Rocco, and Dante.

Last night I was watching the GH reruns on Freevee. They're up to Oscar in the hospital, so Billy Miller, Tamara Braun, Michelle Stafford and Roger Howarth are around. Charlotte is bullying Aiden, and was forced to apologize in front of Elizabeth. All the kids were young, and they were so much more interesting and relevant to story than they are now, even with the current custody pickle.

Chad's health problems, the new baby, losing his father, the constant pay cuts at work, not trying to garner sympathy for him but he's going through a lot. He told Steve that he wants to try his hand at comedy. Ask someone mentioned, NAC's success, someone Chad couldn't stand, might have something to do with it as well.

I find it so off-putting that the two highest paid on the show, sputtering Mo and aged like milk Steve, can pressure their co-stars into appearing on their side hustles so they can make even more money.

Both also have the audacity to talk about how they have to stalk their co-stars to get them to appear. More than once Steve has mentioned "tracking down" co-stars "in the hallway" to appear.

Manipulative Mo with his shit eating grin said on his show (or on an X video): "I don't pressure anyone to be on my show but I would really like to have Genie and Finola but I haven't heard back from them...". (paraphrasing). I loathe him.

He didn't like that the Navy Seal wrote the American Sniper book, I think he called him a liar and said it's not cool to write books about killing people. One of his good friends is a sniper and he didn't write a book about it.

Right out of the Army he was on a little known show that Tanisha Harper was also on.

He's divorced and that's the toughest thing he ever went through. Didn't say much else except it was amicable.

He briefly mentioned meeting Shia LaBeouf and Meghan Fox when he did Transfomers movies but not details.

Josh did a movie with Sofa Mattson (Sasha) and her sister five or six years ago so he already knew her. Sofia's sister played his wife and Sofia played the wife's sister. Mo once again recounted his stay in the mental institution when he was 21 and his disappointment at not being able to become a model. They put him in solitary and tied him down to the bed for jumping on counters and refusing meds. He escaped when they let him go on his first walk outside. Mo says he told his current therapist that very day that no matter what happens with his mental health, he can always act. He's been acting so long he can always act, acting comes naturally to him and he can always act well, he just opens his mouth and it flows (I beg to differ).

For the poster above, you would be surprised at some of the salaries on GH. Except for the 2 main leads and JJ, most well regarded vets are not making what you think they are, especially after take it or leave it paycuts were introduced a couple of years ago. People like Maura West and Cynthia Watros aren't making as much as you think. If Giolin, my favorite nickname, and the new doctor make any more than 5% over scale, I would be shocked.

Quite frankly, they backed up a Brinks truck to JJ's house and no one has seen a return on that investment. And it doesn't sit well with actors who had to take either pay or guarantee cuts to see two big returns both with big salaries bomb.

I liked the Lulu/Cody banter and playfulness and it made me appreciate Cody's humor which I never have. DZ is a good actor but not light or playful, Lulu and Cody will be more fun.

If Sam was still alive and in the triangle, I would probably be fast forwarding and not interested in the story line at all as her raspy voice and low energy were off-putting. Her death has had a nice ripple effect and given this triangle life.

Agree that Sam's death has given more story to tell that includes under its umbrella so many characters -- moreso than if they killed off Ava. It has given lots for the actors playing Alexis and Dane a lot to work with, and it spins off many other stories. What the producers and writers need to keep in mind is that we have to LIKE a character to root for him or her. That could be a villain (yes, we like Ava) or a hero (e.g.., Anna, Liz). What they fail to realize that is Kristina is not likable. Same with Lucky. Characters that are whiny, indecisive, self-involved, and unwashed you cannot root for. Ric, although they keep saying he's slimy, is likable because he's written well and is played by a good actor. We root for Ava to be exonerated, because we like her -- she's fun. And, hey, nobody's rooting for the trio from hell, Sonny, Jason, and Carly, but none of them is likable or well-acted.

R577 Great points. Lucky and Kristina are somewhat cut from the same cloth; they were rumored to be involved when Jonathan returned, although reaction to Lucky and Liz, along with Isaiah, are the only bright spots so far in regards to Jonathan's return.

I also like characters and couples who can be funny or snarky. Characters who can deliver a one liner with a straight face and make you chuckle. Britt, Victor Sheffield Cassadine, Valentin, younger Robert Scorpio and his dry wit and of course Ava.
