Severe Drought in metro NYC and Mid Atlantic

It hasn’t rained here for a whole month which is unprecedented for Oct-Nov. And there is zero rain in the coming 10 day forecast.

The landscape along highways is starting to remind me of the regions in California where everything just goes mostly brownish for part of the year. There was an actual forest fire (small) yesterday in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.

Here in suburban northern NJ we have a little squabble on our block. There’s a ban on watering your lawn. But a neighbor spent $$ in putting down some high quality grass seed and fertilizer for next year, and they are flouting the ban. Other eco-conscious neighbors are hating on them and encouraging us all to join in.

As Annie sang… Is it raining with you?

I'm in RI, and it hasn't rained here in over a month. One of the driest autumns on record, according to our meteorologists. No rain for the next ten days, which brings us into the start of 'late November'. They've issued a number of warnings for 'brush fires' for our region, as some idiots still 'burn leaves' in their yards, even though it's against the law throughout most (if not all) the state.

do a rain dance.

It's not like there's no water nearby. This isn't Phoenix where where the water is not only there but also not coming back.

Also, now that I’ve been outside, it turns out all of northern NJ has smoky air today from at least seven wildfires.

We have smoky air in Brooklyn, NY from the NJ wildfires, and the fire in Prospect Park last night. Our air quality index is at 119 (unhealthy for sensitive groups).
