by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 9, 2024 3:45 AM |
Tim Walz was a disaster. Kamala picked the most Far Left governor she could find. I don't want to fight. But I said it at the time that Kamala should have picked a safe middle road candidate like Shapiro (or even Pete). And let me say the mouth of Mrs Walz has been spouting stupidity for years. Real wacko stuff. Tim and his wife were perfect MAGA fodder on day one. By the end of the campaign he was practically leashed by the Harris Campaign.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 9, 2024 6:31 AM |
Mark Kelly was my choice.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 9, 2024 6:36 AM |
Tim looks and carries himself like a closeted leather queen who unsuccessfully fishes for loads at the bathhouse every weekend.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 9, 2024 6:37 AM |
Bwahahahaha! "Tim."
It's a Milquetoast name. You never saw a sign that said "Kamala/Tim." They were either "Kamala" or "Harris/Walz."
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 9, 2024 6:41 AM |
I honestly don't know why the hell she picked Walz.. Pete would have been on tv every day owning VD Vance and Trump. Shapiro (or Mark Kelly) would have helped. But she picked a man whose every act as governor was to appease the Far Left? In hindsight she really was out of touch. LINK....This elected Democrat claims Kamala dismissed her.

We need immigrants badly, but not this way. Time Walz was another bad choice, yes fucking milquetoast indeed.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 9, 2024 7:15 AM |
I also think he should run. I don't think he'd get very far but having the voice of someone who has led a state in implementing a more left wing agenda might help pull other candidates away from running as Republican-Lite.
I don't think Walz was a bad choice, and I don't think anyone would have done better - Harris was just too connected to Biden and people vote for the top of the ticket.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 9, 2024 8:01 AM |
R5 & R9, I like Pete and I agree that he is a good debater and remains cool and collected under fire, but a gay man as VP would probably have been unrealistic at this point in history. I would like to see Pete climb the ranks in the future, but we may have to wait a while longer.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 9, 2024 8:38 AM |
He was a terrible debater. He spent the campaign dragging Trump and Vance and then as soon as he stood alongside Vance he was wanting to be best buddies with him. Not to mention going off on that tangent about his trip to China.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 9, 2024 9:56 AM |
Walz was emasculated by the Harris campaign. Here he is with the " coach" moniker, the man's man and he was sent out to articulate the platform of the Dems - a woman's right to choose. Yes, it should have been Kelly, but even he would not have been enough to save the badly conceived campaign.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 9, 2024 12:31 PM |
I had enough of his Okilly Dokilly shit from the day he was selected. His style just reminds me too much of every cheesy 'down home/just plain folks' politician doing an 'aw shucks' shuffle with a dose of the televangelist who never stops smiling. I know it's my perception of trading in folksy style, not substance, but he came across as 95% folksy stereotype and short on the substance.

R9 I don't know, that representative sounds rather green and very sensitive.
[quote]I’d had a couple of beers, and I noticed that almost all of the garlands were plastic. My district grows a hell of a lot of Christmas trees,” she recalled. “I was strong-armed into taking a picture. I said, ‘Madam Vice President, we grow those where I live.’ She just walked away from me. There was kind of an eye roll, maybe. My thinking was, it does matter to people where I live. It’s the respect, the cultural regard for farmers. I didn’t feel like she understood what I was trying to say.”
The Vice President invites you to a Christmas party at her home. You've never interacted with her before. Here's your chance. And what do you do? You get tipsy and criticize the decorations? And you expect Madame VP to read your mind and understand you are tying your criticism into to your constituents and what their needs and dreams are? At a Christmas party where everyone is cutting loose, getting drunk and trying NOT to think about their jobs for five seconds?
Yeah, no. I'd be rolling my eyes, too.

by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 9, 2024 1:37 PM |
Very true, R22. While I criticized Walz as one style of political candidate I don't connect with at all, the fault wasn't that he was substantively bad, just not my style. Both candidates performed well, better than might have been expected. It was just --as you say-- to an unreceptive audience.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 9, 2024 1:39 PM |
They HAD a receptive audience. Maybe if it hadn't been such a love fest at their rallies they might have worked harder to motivate more voters to the polls. We were all told that the Democrats were going to turn out in massive numbers and it LOOKED LIKE THIS WAS TRUE. I was fooled. Weren't some of you?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 9, 2024 1:41 PM |
I reproach the last innings that invited the big celebrities in. Probably a mistake. It's a very human mistake. If Trump had 500 big celebrities endorsing him he would have been all over them, too.

Fooled, no. I always thought Trump would win. In the moments I allowed myself a glint of wild optimism, I thought the race might somehow be very close.
The Democrats are enlaved to the 'get out the vote' thing, which is precarious in the best of times and more so when the country leans --or leans hard-- against them. Face it. The voting population is stupider, greedier, and meaner than ever -- and growing.
There's no return to decency or informed debate on the horizon. For years.

by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 9, 2024 2:11 PM |
Walz could very well run in 2028, it’ll depend is he can raise the money.
Josh Shapiro wouldn’t have been good as a running mate because he’s loud and aggressive and may have overshadowed Harris.
Bottom line, other than their ability to effectively campaign, no one really cares or votes for the VP. It doesn’t matter at all.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 9, 2024 2:23 PM |
I was hoping Harris would pick Mark Kelly as her running mate because we'd have had a much better chance at Arizona, as well as wooing more undecideds who may veer conservative but who understand that Trump is bad news. Kelly is red-blooded American like Walz but less "aw shucks." Kelly is a veteran and an astronaut. We all tend to feel awe when it comes to astronauts. It's badass. His wife survived an assassination attempt, and he's been a loyal husband to her. At the time everyone was like "he's so boring, he's got no charisma, he's unattractive," etc etc. But he is relatable. He's not "Tampon Tim." It would have been so much harder for the Trumpers to criticize and make fun of him.
Having said all of that, I think we were always going to end up with Trump. The people see a $7 box of cereal and they are going to vote out the party that seemingly has allowed this to happen. Biden should have been the one calling out the price gougers this entire time, not Kamala. Food prices are insane these days and you can no longer blame the pandemic. What pisses me off, is that Kamala was openly vocal about the price gouging and had ideas for addressing it. Trump has said nothing about it but still got voted in just to spite Biden.

Stop with all this. There is nothing that Harris could do to change the outcome except be white and male.
That's it. That's the bottom line. Everything else is window dressing and we're all going to go a bit pazzo trying to find the little bits that would add up to a big loss.
No matter what reasons anyone tries to come up with - valid, semi-valid, or otherwise - the problem is that Harris was a woman of color, and we still live in a straight white male world. America.
Have you seen some of the videos of men addressing women and stating "your body, my choice.? Do you think Harris' views on anything - ANYTHING - political - or any other choices she made - would have changed those votes?
Stop with the circular firing squad shit. The problem is Americans. We underestimated how horrible and ignorant most of them are.

90% of these hot takes fail to understand why Trump won and Harris lost. Walz was popular when selected and then ok so his star dimmed a little but that never, ever makes or breaks an election. JD Vance was execrable and yet the Rs took Presidency and Senate and kept the house.
This was a “Trump will win and the Dem will lose” election year. All the signs were there..

Nah, they would have been exceedingly cruel about his wife. They would have criticized Shapiro for being Jewish, Pete for being gay...there is no line they wouldn't cross.
It's not Tim's fault that they lost and I'm not altogether convinced this outcome wasn't rigged...but I don't think he has it in him to run again in 4 years. I certainly hope he will stay in politics though and continue to speak out.

I like Gavin Newsom, but after Harris's loss, we can't have another CA progressive as our nominee.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 9, 2024 4:00 PM |
The election was starting to be lost 4 yrs ago. Biden won over 300 electoral votes and the popular vote by 7,000,000. Then, the kowtow to the far left - trans, BLM, cancel culture, feminists..., ignoring the vast majority of voters - working class whites, especially men ( who were labeled " racist" and "sexist by the far left). The prices go up...Biden is silent. As a matter of fact, he was pretty silent about everything. Then the horrendous immigration fiasco came about; once again, silence. No matter who ran, it was going to be a wipeout, because the majority feels that they got fucked by this administration. The Dems need a complete re-set; fuck the far left, fuck the whole Kumbaya makeup. Get back to what made the Dems successful in the first place - looking out for the working class. Period. If someone wants to identify as a different gender, don't parade out psychologists from liberal arts schools to claim there are 85 genders. Fuck that - there are two. If you claim another, that's fine, but don't expect the support of the party or the government. And, fuck the Harvard arrogance that permeates the Dems, the " flyovers" are stupid mentality. If they don't change, but do the same thing, they will deserve another beatdown. I am not optimistic.

This is correct. Think back to Bill Clinton. He passed the Crime Bill, and passed sweeping Welfare reform...two things that could be widely considered racist. And he gave up on healthcare reform. But he did pass a major middle class tax cut and improved the economy. And he was reelected in a landslide.

Too many Dems, and I include myself, have been living in our own little echo chambers and bubbles and have failed to read the room, failed to gauge the mood of the country. Many, many people have been feeling squeezed economically and that's made them frustrated and scared and being angry and venting that makes them feels a little less helpless. Trump gave them targets for their anger and channeled it. We could have given them the appropriate targets too, like the banks, the hedge funds, and the corporations gouging prices and sending rent fees and mortgages out of reach of average people. I personally loved Kamala'a campaign of joy and hope, but too many people weren't feeling joyful and couldn't muster hope for a future they couldn't see. MAGAs are a lost cause, but I believe that there are people who can be brought into the tent. The Democrats just really need to find the appropriate voice to speak for them.

It came out that the meeting Shapiro had with Kamala didn't go well and he was more concerned with what he would be doing in the White House and if he would have enough responsibility as VP. Then when the momentum swung against him people close to him put out leaks that he didn't know if he wanted to give up the role of Governor of Pennsylvania and may turn down the VP position. Basically his number one priority was how events would impact his eventual bid for the white house.
