It’s easy to differentiate the smart liberals from the dumb ones
Both in real life and online.
The smart ones recognize complexities and ask questions about the lost election. What did we get wrong? Why did Kamala’s campaign fail? How and why did we fail to connect with the working class and women? Did the Democrats dismiss voters’ legitimate concerns about their economic stability? Is the average American sick to death of identity politics and making everything about race?
The dumb liberals ask no questions and give only blind and overly simplistic answers. “The other side is dumb and racist and Kamala was a perfect candidate with a perfect campaign.”
I will admit of course that Trump voters have a huge blind spot and aren’t the brightest, but it’s crazy to dismiss every single one of them as evil. I know Trump voters, mostly old coworkers from years ago, whom I knew years before he ran the first time and they are good hard working people.

I half agree with you, OP. Of course, there are many very serious questions to be asked about what the Democrats did wrong to help them lose the election. BUT in my opinion, every single person who voted for Trump is either evil or shockingly stupid or both.
The best I can say of any given Trump voter is that they are uninformed or misinformed.
If a disinterested person could be found from somewhere else in the world who knew nothing about the beliefs of the Democrats and Republicans and he interviewed one of each and heard them both say that the other one is the one who is uniformed or misinformed, would the disinterested person be able to find that one is right and one is wrong, or would he find that it’s a little of both?

Multiple things are true. The Democrats made macro mistakes over the last four years. Kamala ran a competent 100 day campaign with a few errors, some significant. And the American electorate is stupid as fuck. The mistakes over the last four years and in the campaign come from the Democrats favorite mistake (other than Bill Clinton): the complete inability to explain the benefits of their policies to extremely stupid people. Your either/or dichotomy falls into the stupid as well, OP.

Why not multiple tracks positing multiple theories, OP?
Sure, Trump won the election for reasons beyond racism & misogyny, but that doesn’t negate the theory that he also won this election due to racism & misogyny.

How big a mistake would you say it was for Democrats to clearly show that they believe that a large part of the population is extremely stupid?

Kindly fuck off, douchebag OP.

Half the responses in this thread are just proving my point. What I said in my OP was that smart Democrats realize that they need to look inward to figure out what went wrong, whereas dumb Democrats are unable to think critically and just shout insults like a third grader. Just because you voted for Kamala Harris doesn’t inherently make you a genius. You’re free to simply believe that Trump supporters are just incredibly stupid. After all, you’re right, they are. But at the end of the day, we’re still going to have to think and figure out what to do right next time. Because when 2028 comes around, shouting insults isn’t going to work. It sure as hell didn’t work in 2024.

This is a very difficult question to answer, because since it's obviously 100 percent true that a large part of the population is extremely stupid, is it politic not to say so, or just dishonest? Or both?

"Because when 2028 comes around, shouting insults isn’t going to work. It sure as hell didn’t work in 2024."
Worked for Trump. Trump wanted to call Biden retarded. He called Kamala stupid on more than one occasion. He and said Michelle Obama was rude. And when last seen on the campaign trail, once and again President Trump was pretending to fellate a microphone.
So let's not kid ourselves and pretend Donald Trump was engaging in Algonquin Round Table type behavior and Democrats were unfairly picking on him. 'Kay, bitch?
Besides MAGAts love hurling insults. They only whine and complain when they're the intended (and often times much deserved) targets of said insults.

R15 it's not rocket science. They went too far to the left. Move back to the middle and send AOC and what's left of her squad off to Siberia. Trump won the same way he did back in 2016. He reached out to rural working-class voters who felt left behind, and he flipped so many other demos. It was really an almost across the board win.
In regard to the left: No one wants to hear about Defund the Police when crime is rampant. No one wants to hear about bail reform when criminals re-offend without fear of repercussions. No one gives a damn about Trans athletes they do however care that their daughter who has been practicing her chosen sport since grade school has lost out on a much need scholarship because a bio male decided to hijack her high school sport. No one wants to hear migrants are being given monthly allotments, free medical care and free housing when Americans are busting their asses to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads. No one wants to see thousands of college grads given loan forgiveness when a majority of Americans could not afford to attend college. Now their taxes are used to pay off someone else's debt.
They decided to vote for the asshole because after all is said it done it did come down to the price of bread, immigrants flooding the border, criminals being given preference over law-abiding citizens and many suburban parents were fed up with the student Gaza uprising which negatively impacted their kid's expensive education.
“The other side is dumb and racist and Kamala was a perfect candidate with a perfect campaign.”
*blinks several times*
Kamala ran a great campaign.
Trump supporters voted for him because:
he won't enact an abortion ban (plot twist: he will);
China will pay for the tariffs (plot twist; it's a consumer tax)
He's being persecuted like Jesus (aka convicted for 34 felonies);
He'll vanquish peanut the squirrel. (look it up).
NPR interviewed Trump supporters today asking if they think he's an authoritarian; the most common response was "what's an authoritarian"?
They're the [bold]DUMBEST MOTHERFUCKERS ON THE PLANET[/bold]. They love him because he hates POC, women and trans people like they do.
Anybody with a functioning brain and internet connection can see that.
What sad, pathetic trolls we've got here these days.

R19, you're being incredibly unrealistic if you think everyone who voted for him is a racist, a homophobe or a misogynist. As Clinton famously said in '92 It's the economy, stupid.

The dumb people like OP blame "identity politics" (which is a right-wing talking point) even though polls show most people voted based on the economy

R18, nice try, but she didn't campaign on "defund the police" or trans athletes. Again, polls show people voted based on the economy
If people hate Democrats and think they moved too far to the left....why did Dems win most of the swing state Senate races? Why did they vote for Jacky Rosen, Tammy Baldwin, and co.?

Here's the thing R18: the GOP will use your boilerplate culture war wingnut talking points to beat Democratic candidates over the head even when they don't support them. And the public is led against reality to believe they do support them.

R23, nice try? We lost the Senate, we lost the WH, we're on the verge of losing the House (again) and the SC will have a conservative majority for generations to come. That's a rather resounding rejection of the Democrats platform for the past five years. She may not have run on those policies but the Rs sure as hell ran with it in their political ads.
R24, wingnut? Fetterman just said he thinks Trump won PA because the Rs used a sound bite of Kamala from 2020: "The ads often included a clip of Vice President Kamala Harris saying during her 2020 presidential campaign that she supported gender-affirming medical treatment for transgender people in prison. The tagline at the end: "Kamala is for 'they/them.' President Trump is for you."
I think you're both proving OP's point. I do believe the deciding factor for many was the economy, yet you don't want to believe we also lost because of unpopular policies. I wonder if Trump is going to celebrate Transgender Remembrance Day next March as Biden did each year. Something tells me he's not.

Honest question for you, R20: How can you state this with such conviction when, for all of the statistics that indicate the economy has done relatively very poorly under Biden and the Dems, there are other statistics that indicate it has done relatively very well. As per R22:
MAGA voters are absolutely convinced the US economy is in freefall, and inflation is destroying the country. We have the best economic numbers in the world right now. Which tariffs will do quite the opposite of fixing.

OP isn't being reasonable. He posted a smug screed against straw men who don't actually exist. Who is saying that Kamala is perfect and ran a perfect campaign? Absolutely no one. And in doing so he complains about a campaign that Vice-President Harris never ran. There was no social justice, race-obsessed campaigning from Kamala or her surrogates during the campaign, especially compared to 2016 and 2020. This is just a tired excuse to bitch about the woke. Yes, they're annoying. No, they're not why Harris lost.
And then he tops it all off with a condescending anecdote about how he used to work with some not-so-bright Trumpers and found them to be decent, hard-working people, as if we expected every single Trump voter to be a monster who kicks puppies and pushes elderly people down the stair for sport. I'm sure they'd be thrilled by how magnanimous he is towards them.
OP may have some good points about addressing voter concerns, but it's hard to take him that seriously when he loads it in self-congratulatory blather about he is one of the smart ones, and everyone else is just a big old dummy for disagreeing with him.

R31, I'm just going by the exit polls. The economy was a top concern for voters. I understand the economy is doing well under Biden but for the average American all they see are rising food and gas prices. I thought this election would break down more along gender lines, but it would seem trying to keep a roof over one's head superseded abortion rights.

R30, you sound a tad unstable. I'm not test-driving any talking points. OP asked a question, I answered. The tone of your post personifies exactly what OP is talking about.
Trans soundbites from Kamala were used in attack ads throughout the election season to great effect. Ask Fetterman why he thinks Kamala lost PA.
The border was a huge issue for voters as was bail reform. I find it interesting LA DA Gascon, a big supporter of bail reform was finally booted as he lost his re-election bid and London Breed is no longer mayor of SF. CRIME MATTERS.
As for AOC, her soundbite "The pride of New York, Mondaire Jones" and close affiliation featured prominently in attack ads on Mondaire Jones, a NYC congressman running for re-election. He had been a big supporter of Defund the Police, bail reform and open borders then he tried to flip it this election because these issues became huge negatives in his campaign. HE LOST.
Dems like you are mirror images to the Trump cultists: Blind devotion to a party or a master.
