Disengaging
Trump won a clear majority. To me, this means a clear majority of Americans spit in the face of every man who fought and died, or fought and lived in World War 2.
And Trump said EXACTLY what he was going to do. So I feel like the only thing to do is say to them "have at it!"
I cannot watch as he dismantles NATO, allows Putin to have Ukraine, and probably Poland, and lets RFK dismantle the FDA. It will drive me nuts, and there's nothing I can do about it.
I will l still vote, but I will no longer follow politics. Too painful.
Anyone else have this feeling?

It's hard to live in a total news vacuum, even harder if you are here on DL, but I am definitely cutting way back on all other social media, podcasts, etc. I already stopped watching TV news awhile ago. It's all a big waste of time and toxic to mental health. I will get back to reading books and pursuing hobbies that bring me pleasure.

Europe can create its own army/alliance now. Not America's problem.

I am right there with you OP

Yup. I canceled both my WaPo and NY Times digital subscriptions.
I also cut way back on my TV news.

The men would fought during WW2 would have happily voted for Trump. Don’t fool yourself

r7 Yes. They voted for Bush and Reagan.

My husband is hooked on MSNBC. After the election, I shut that shit down right away. No more for a long while

Same, OP. I’m embracing my new status as a low-information voter.

"The men would fought during WW2 would have happily voted for Trump. Don’t fool yourself."
And you know this how?????
My father fought on Iwo Jima. His older brother served on Okinawa. Two of my mother's brothers were on the same ship that was torpedoed by the Japanese.
When they got home, none of these men ever voted Republican, and none of them would piss on Donald Trump if he was on fire.

You don't have to disengage entirely, but I think social media and the 24-hours-a-day news we get now makes it seems that every single thing that happens every second of the day is the biggest, worst thing ever. (Until the next thing happens the next second.) Maybe catch up on the political news weekly for a while.
My other bit of advice is to remember to check your ego. I don't mean that in a bad way. But you as well as me and everyone else here on DL only has so much impact on our politics. Your vote, donations, and sometimes more, but usually not. It is not essential that you obsess over every single detail because you are not in control of everything. And it's better for one's health to not be anxious all the time.

Echoing R12. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing, media-addicted despair or a total unplugged apathy.
Now is an optimal time to disengage and take care of yourself if you’re hurting. Compared to the constant $$ appeals and volunteer appeals during election season, little is being asked of us little people in this moment.

It's all so fathomable, I can't process it. I'm completely bewildered. I cannot even grasp the full implications of what this means for the future of the world.
"A republic, if you can keep it." For 248 years we proved Ben Franklin's doubts wrong. No more.

As much as I despised Bush and Reagan, there is no comparison to Trump.

My father was in the military too and he always thought Trump was a fool. He would have never voted for him, but I know he's in the minority Most military and law enforcement men are Trump supporters. Don't kid yourself.

I hope the media can survive. With absolute immunity the Supreme Court decision carries a lot of threat to stay in line. Government officials of both parties are discussing how to prevent disaster.

Yes, OP.
Let those idiots tear the place up and smear shit on the walls to “own the libs”. I will ignore them.
I have better things to do than get upset over this traitor and his draconian monkeys. Fuck them.
Time to tune out, turn inwards and let the cunts rip everything out.
Maybe then they’ll learn, but I doubt it.

I have at the moment. I cannot even watch local news right now. I think that will probably change once Dump is sworn in, but I refuse to go back to all evening MSNBC watching like it did during Dump's first term. I will probably pick one of the hosts to watch and then move on for the rest of the night.

You're going to have to give us a bit of an idea of what we're clicking on, R29. I'm in a media blackout and at this point, won't click on anything without knowing I'm going to be faced with a picture of Shitler, Elmo or any of the billionaire loons who are going to destroy America, and the detailed descriptions of their intentions.
Pray the Dems somehow take the House. It's our only hope.

someone should think about starting a thread containing all the various websites, publications, podcasts, etc., which are considered "do not use", to avoid offending anyone 🤔

R33: It's not a matter of being "offended", bitch. It's a known fact RCP is right wing biased. You gonna post a link to Nazimax next and get all pretend uppity about me and others rightfully calling your ass out? Cut the crap.

I’m with you too, OP. I optimistically expect that ignoring day-to-day Washington DC shenanigans will only have positive impacts on my life. I’ll remain an informed voter, and will be kind to all, except for those who give me a reason not to be.
Peace to you.

I have blocked almost every post that has to do with the election and politics in general. I've unsubscribed from all the YouTube and podcasts I watched/listened to. I've basically sworn off the news except for weather and sports. The NBA and college basketball seasons have started, and college football is in full swing. I also watched a little of the Brown/Iona men's water polo match (I like mostly naked men). I'm finding more cooking projects to do also. My first test loaf of bread using the lievito madre (literally mother's yeast, it's a starter) I made is hopefully raising (rising?) right now. I also have some peanut buttter chip chocolate cookies going. Yes, I'm a fat whore and I don't give a fuck (okay, my partner loves the cookies).
Wholly disengaged.
