Homeless

What will happen to the homeless population?

Leave up to the states? Pass a federal law of some sort ?

I'm betting on starvation and a new Trail of Tears. He'll just keep them walking until they die.

In case you missed it, the Supreme Court (incorrectly in my view) already blessed cities cracking down on them and some liberal cities immediately took advantage of that to crack down. In conservative areas, it will be a bloodbath.

The problem is that people don't want to build enough shelters due to NIMBY, so they make up excuses like the homeless don't like shelters and so forth. That's true, but that's because the shelters are both sparse in many cities (many, especially men, get rejected due to being ful, so why even bother is their viewl) and also terribly unsafe and disgusting. The solution to both of these things is proper funding (and making sure the money goes to the upkeep of the shelter rather than some grifter charity execs) and building them in the right areas, but NIMBY is going to NIMBY.

R4, JD Vance's favorite philosopher, Curtis Yarvin, has proposed something similar

They'll put them in workhouses.

Such as? Seriously: what type of "federal law" do you think could possibly be passed with regards to homelessness? Even many liberal cities like Portland and Austin have ended up rolling back their reversal of no-camping laws that effectively criminalize being homeless.

And why do you think this is a particular concern of Trump's? From his perspective this is an issue for "Democrat-run states," and has nothing to do with his core issue of xenophobic bigotry.

This is already an area regulated by state law. No, neither Trump nor anyone else can just "change" that with the snap of their fingers: I know we're all sick of SCOTUS fuckery, but considering states' rights is still a core GOP cause, they're highly unlikely to allow the federal government to dictate what can or can't be done in specific states. And, again, you haven't said what "should" or "shouldn't" be made illegal.

We’d be better off keeping the undocumented immigrants and deporting the homeless. The immigrants actually work and contribute to the economy, whereas the homeless are purely dead weight.

Not a federal issue.

R12, another problem with the homeless situation is that many of them have mental problems and there are no facilities to keep them nor anywhere to get help. And you have to deal with the homeless not wanting the shelters because there are too many rules, etc. But I agree, someone here who wants to work is certainly better than the mentally ill sleeping on the streets and committing crimes.

Don't let anyone in the new regime near "A Modest Proposal," lest they think Swift was being serious.
