R7 a lot more common than you think. I knew a gay guy in his 20s who says pedophilia is a lot more engrained in American culture than we notice, and he’s right. He would go undercover on dating apps as minors to catch predators and he said you’d be shocked how many gay men on Grindr didn’t care that they were engaging with a minor or sometimes even sought out the person because of how young they looked in the photo.

The guy I knew posed as a 13 year old visiting NY and on the app. One half of the couple messaged the account and asked how old he was because the photo was of someone who looked so young. The account replied “does it matter how old I am?” And he replied “yes, it does. Get off the app and go to school” then blocked the fake 13 YO. The other half of the couple (they had their own accounts, in an open marriage) was the opposite. Sought out the 13 YO, sent tons of nudes, said he’s always wanted to fuck someone young etc. I loved finding out that the racist blond Wisconsin fuck cosplaying as a NYer was a pervert.

The victim was a fat guy in his 40s. 16 is legal in MD, but anyone who goes on Grindr who looks like him and his age and is lured by a sixteen year is a fool or a mark at best. Still these guys are nasty criminals. Now 12 have been arrested.

I thought the victim was another student. If he’s a 40-year-old, prosecutors are going to have a hard time finding a jury that will convict them.

R21 no. The minor being on Grindr is still illegal. Age of consent laws vary in each state. In some states the legal age may be 16 but there may be a loophole people overlook where the person who is older can only be a certain amount of years older than the 16 year old etc.

Being able to consent at 16 doesn’t give you legal clearance to be on apps like Grindr etc. or anything pornographic. Sending nudes under 18 is child porn.
