Harris would have probably won the election if she had been even merely a slightly better candidate

Instead of hiding from reporters and giving speeches where she said inane things like “hard work is good work” or “I’m SPEAKING!”

by Anonymousreply 62November 11, 2024 6:46 PM

Fuck off OP

by Anonymousreply 1November 8, 2024 12:42 PM

Why? Harris lost the election and now we have Trump again. She’s above blame?

by Anonymousreply 2November 8, 2024 12:47 PM

The people who voted for Trump are to blame.

by Anonymousreply 3November 8, 2024 1:30 PM

So wait, OP, you're saying if only more people voted for Harris, she would have won??

Damn, you're a fucking genius! You should be president!

by Anonymousreply 4November 8, 2024 1:34 PM

Under normal circumstances, nobody was getting re-elected when the President's approval rating was 40%. Nobody.

That America did it anyway under abnormal circumstances, is a problem that has nothing to do with Harris. But lets not forget, a school full of dead seven year olds and it couldn't even muster some gun laws. So really, there shouldn't be any surprise.

by Anonymousreply 5November 8, 2024 1:35 PM

Because we use X for all of our propaganda now, right, turd?

by Anonymousreply 6November 8, 2024 1:37 PM

The election was a referendum on the Biden Administration; she never stood a chance, especially since the Dems chose to ignore the issues that really concerned the voters and stuck with abortion. If it were just a vote against Harris, both houses of Congress wouldn't have fallen the way they did.

by Anonymousreply 7November 8, 2024 1:58 PM

Nonsense and lies from R7.

by Anonymousreply 8November 8, 2024 2:34 PM

WaPo this morning made this observation, which very much describes the enlightened fascism of DL:

What should this make Democrats think? Not, one hopes, that the people have proved themselves unworthy of self-government. Alas, some are already indulging this interpretation, much like the East German official in Bertolt Brecht’s poem “The Solution,” who informed a restive citizenry that they “had forfeited the confidence of the government and could win it back only by redoubled efforts.” As Brecht sardonically noted, “Would it not be easier in that case for the government to dissolve the people and elect another?”

Democrats have been acting like the proverbial American tourist in France, trying to get their point across by shouting louder in a language only they understand. Cast out of the White House, the Senate and quite likely the House of Representatives, Democrats should stop yelling for a while and listen, really listen, to the economic and cultural concerns of ordinary people. The electorate that has just preferred Trump to Vice President Kamala Harris is the only one we have. Democrats can’t dissolve it and elect another; and without its support, resistance is futile.

by Anonymousreply 9November 8, 2024 3:13 PM

Kamala Harris ran a perfectly fine campaign. There are countless factors that affected the outcome here. We need to do a much better job with our messaging and communication abilities, particularly in areas that affect the average person. We, unfortunately, live in a world of soundbites and a lack of critical thinking skills. Soundbites are simple and if heard enough - become reality.

by Anonymousreply 10November 8, 2024 3:54 PM

She worked her ass off. She can't helo that she's a black woman and Americans are sexist and racist

by Anonymousreply 11November 8, 2024 3:56 PM

The winning strategy included performing oral sex on a microphone and swaying back and forth to "God Bless the USA" and "Ave Maria" for forty minutes so... yeah, I guess she didn't do the right things.

by Anonymousreply 12November 8, 2024 4:04 PM
Kamala Harris ran a perfectly fine campaign.

No she didn't.

Besides the fact that she was a lousy candidate, It was a campaign out of touch with the realities of today.

by Anonymousreply 13November 8, 2024 4:07 PM

I don't think the loss was about her. The loss was a backlash based on the feeling about the economy, with the Democrats holding the White House and the president's approval rating at 40%. So for sure there are going to be a large number of people whose views include sexism, racism, etc. But do you really think [italic]everybody[/italic] who voted for him again are all equally vile? Other countries have managed to elect women and they are not much if at all more enlightened than the U.S. I can't believe he got re-elected either, but I do think I can explain it, objectionable though the truth is. It's about how people are feeling about the economics of their own lives. The States just isn't a country where "we're all in this together" matters very much.

by Anonymousreply 14November 8, 2024 4:09 PM

At this point we need to face reality, short of running the grand wizard of the KKK, the Dems were going to lose this election regardless of the candidate. America is full of the stupidest people on earth. The 70+ million people who voted for Trump did it knowing full well who he is and what he is about and they WANT that. They want the cruelty and the hatred. End of story. Perhaps when we finally come to terms with the reality that it's America that's the problem not the Dems or even the Repugs (they are just doing what they know will win). We are a rotten, stupid, racist, homophobic, sexist, white supremacist country. End of story.

Assuming we get another free and open election in 2028, maybe people will have learned a lesson, but based on the global reaction over the past four days, America will be coming out of this a reduced power with a shattered economy and democracy.

My husband is from New Zealand, so I'm out of here soon. Good luck bitches.
Nonsense and lies from [R7].

Easy response for pea-brains. Please, enlighten us with your wisdom. We have so much to learn.

by Anonymousreply 16November 8, 2024 4:16 PM

She didn’t lie enough, make up stories about doing things no president can do, or act a fool on stage. Dems need to do better next time.

by Anonymousreply 17November 8, 2024 4:22 PM
Kamala Harris ran a perfectly fine campaign.

I think she ran as good a campaign as she was able to. But it was not a “perfectly fine campaign”. She avoided interviews for so long it allowed the opposition to define her. Her speeches became filled with clichés and grew repetitive and tiresome. She fell into Hillary’s trap of courting neocons and throwing out “fascist” panic. Calling anyone a fascist doesn’t do anything anymore because if it did, the Democrats would have never supported Netanyahu’s Israel. Pivoting towards women’s reproductive rights overlooked the fact that Harris would be unable to “proudly sign it into law” without a Democratic Congress which was unlikely. Centering the campaign around the middle class overlooks the growing wealth divide and that many working people who need help the most are unable to reach the middle class.

Harris ran as a prosecutor when in fact she was on the defense; her role as Biden’s VP required her to defend an administration which many found repugnant. It was not in her skill set to do that.

by Anonymousreply 18November 8, 2024 4:28 PM

You can't really campaign to people who don't live in reality. Republicans are fucking nuts.

by Anonymousreply 19November 8, 2024 5:16 PM
We are a rotten, stupid, racist, homophobic, sexist, white supremacist country. End of story.

Non-American here. I don't think you are those things, in the majority. A minority, sure, but every country has that. What fucks you up is this strange aversion to sharing where government leadership is involved. You seem sanguine about inequality, even if it fucks you over personally.

by Anonymousreply 20November 8, 2024 8:04 PM

She ran a great campaign. The excitement , the crowds, the message. The important thing to note about Trump voters is that THEY DID NOT WATCH HIS SPEECHES so the fact that he is completely mentally ill and mentally incompetent did not register. Most of the people at his rallies were probablyh die-hards who were bused from place to place and paid. As for them suddenly believing a compulsive liar who says he will stop the Ukraine war on day one, deport 15 million people, and cut gasoline prices in half, not one of them believed any of that. What they did know is that Kamala Harris has a nasal voice that they dislike and which for two months they mentioned every single day even when they were complimenting her speeches. Why they rewarded Congressional obstructionists like Ted Cruz and Rick Scott is also see easy to see. The last two years while Republicans struggled over the speakership, Congress did not do ANYTHING. And they were fine with that. But by giving Republicans control of all three branches they are in for revolutionary change for the worse that they did not expect. They voted for people they know to be contemptible in the thought that nothing would change. And now they will reap a whirlwind.

by Anonymousreply 21November 9, 2024 4:44 PM

If Kamala had only fellated a microphone onstage she would have won in a landslide.

And go shove an IED up your ass, OP.

by Anonymousreply 22November 9, 2024 4:47 PM

Oh and also: why can't the Democrats figure out how to connect with Nazis?

by Anonymousreply 23November 9, 2024 4:49 PM

Harris ran a great campaign; this isn't on her. What this election shows is if you are the RIGHT white guy, you can get away with anything. You can be a massive fuck up, and people will still support you. Bill Clinton was that kind of white guy, he wasn't a massive fuck up, just lead by his cock. Some white guys have it, and others don't.

by Anonymousreply 24November 9, 2024 4:52 PM

75% wrong track number is an impossible hill to climb for any incumbent candidate.

Ronald Reagan's and Bill Clinton's love child would have faced the same result.

by Anonymousreply 25November 9, 2024 4:55 PM

But since the track we've been following since Reagan was laid down by REPUBLICANS,and the public know this, the fact that they would vote for this party has something of a lemming quality about it.

by Anonymousreply 26November 9, 2024 5:25 PM

R26, this Republican Party is not Ronald Reagan's Republican Party. Could you imagine Ron and Nancy having to sit through a Trump rally? It wouldn't happen.

by Anonymousreply 27November 9, 2024 8:30 PM

If you make too many promises then they come back to haunt you at reelection time.

by Anonymousreply 28November 9, 2024 8:54 PM
Could you imagine Ron and Nancy having to sit through a Trump rally? It wouldn't happen.

Surely you're forgetting Nancy's legendary fellatio skills?

She'd be right at fucking home. Ron by 1988 was to far gone to care.

by Anonymousreply 29November 9, 2024 11:22 PM
Could you imagine Ron and Nancy having to sit through a Trump rally? It wouldn't happen.

A few years ago Showtime had an excellent 4-part documentary on the Reagans. There was footage of Ron and Nancy at some county fair or something in Mississippi when they were campaigning in 1980. The large crowd that came to hear Ronald Reagan speak was the 1980 version of MAGA people. Ronald looked befuddled by them and Nancy looked as if she were encountering aliens from outer space. They were clearly out of their element and looked like they couldn't wait to GTFO of there and return to civilization, esp. Nancy.

by Anonymousreply 30November 9, 2024 11:43 PM

No they don't R28. Trump never kept any promises and everyone who worked in his administration - EVERYONE - said was incompetent and unfit.

by Anonymousreply 31November 10, 2024 11:13 AM

Nancy grew up in a rich coop on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago in a family of rich democrats.

by Anonymousreply 32November 10, 2024 12:04 PM

Dude, a merely slightly better candidate? Better than a racist, fascist, misogynist, 34-time felon?

Why don't you people give it a rest? You can't blame anyone but the stupid assholes who voted for him. THIS is the world we live in. You could've run JFK against Trump, and he STILL would've won. Trump tapped into the very base of this country and planted seeds into the fabric of it and there's NO turning it back--at least in our lifetime. He OWNS the Supreme Court AND Congress. This shit will be generational.

Society has devolved. We need to deal with that. We don’t have to accept it, BUT we do have to live in it.

by Anonymousreply 33November 10, 2024 12:27 PM
Democrats have been acting like the proverbial American tourist in France, trying to get their point across by shouting louder in a language only they understand.

No, that is the Republicans to a T. They all used this coded language whenever they talk and yell over anyone that doesn't agree with them.

The issue is people get trapped in their own little world on social media and their fears and prejudiced get reinforced by the logarithims. They constantly hear, for example, how bad the economy is. The ecomony is actually, all things considered, not bad. Maybe not great, but it could be a lot worse. We have excaped a recession, inflation is (mostly) under control, interest rates are coming back down (but will never be at 2% or less again), unemployment is low, wages are up.

However, in their world/bubble, they are told its solely the Democrats fault. Nevermind we had a worldwide pandemic 4 years ago that basically halted the world's economy. Nevermind that the supply chains were severely crippled as a result. Nevermind that after going through a period of "doing without" there was a pent up demand that caused shortages that inevitably caused a rise in prices (a rise which was probably in no small part due to companies chasing profits). Nevermind that gas prices were artificially low due to little/no demand during the heights of the pandemic and shot up when people started pouring onto the roads again (that pesky supply/demand equation again). But no one in MAGA land gets told these causes of inflation. They are only told that Democrats spent too much (as if giving people a few thousand dollars is going to spike inflation as much as it did). Oh, and bird flu too which has decreased the chicken population.

People want someone to blame. They don't want to blame amorphous "conditions". which they have no control over. Unfortunately, Fox, etc. gave them someone to blame/hate. It's hard to overcome that level of gaslighting of the American people.

by Anonymousreply 34November 10, 2024 12:32 PM

No there's plenty we can do it about R33. These billionaires think they are loved. They need to find out this is not the case.

by Anonymousreply 35November 10, 2024 12:33 PM

Kamsla's refusal to pretend to fellate a micrphone is what caused her to lose the election.

Americans know a good cocksucker when they see one, that's why Trump won the election.

by Anonymousreply 36November 10, 2024 12:59 PM
was to far gone to care.

Oh, dear!

by Anonymousreply 37November 10, 2024 1:38 PM
You can't blame anyone but the stupid assholes who voted for him.

And the approximately 20M who didn’t vote for her. Or anybody.

by Anonymousreply 38November 10, 2024 1:39 PM

The sad thing is, it seemed like they had a good sense of things early on. The campaign was hitting the right tones, felt very inclusive to everyone - men included - with a lot of Walz's campaigning, and just generally seemed to be on the right path.

At some point it lost momentum, drove into the traps of some of the most recent failed Dem campaigns, etc. But I think the most correct assessment is that the campaign leaned too hard on its central stance as: We're Not Trump, instead of being clearer about what it WAS about, in terms of actual policies.

For better or worse, Harris is not a great public/speaker. She's an acceptable one, but she is not a speaker in the great oratory tradition.

by Anonymousreply 39November 10, 2024 1:43 PM

I absolutely respect Harris’ work in her campaign. She was tireless. She gave amazing speeches and packed stadiums.

She didn’t have enough time to hone and test her message. Plus white women wouldn’t vote for a Dem or any gender, especially a woman

by Anonymousreply 40November 10, 2024 1:54 PM

Everyone thought abortion would bring women it. That was a huge miscalculation.

Turns out women don’t care about their own bodies

by Anonymousreply 41November 10, 2024 1:55 PM
For better or worse, Harris is not a great public/speaker. She's an acceptable one, but she is not a speaker in the great oratory tradition.

She did give some fantastic speeches—particularly ar the Dem convention.

So weird that Dems have to nominate brilliant speakers while the GOP nominates and wins with bumblers like GWB and Trump

by Anonymousreply 42November 10, 2024 1:56 PM

I'M SHPEAKING!

by Anonymousreply 43November 10, 2024 2:26 PM

R39 She's a FAR better speaker than the guy who won. Let's get SOME perspective here.

by Anonymousreply 44November 10, 2024 3:20 PM

There's nothing wrong with Kamala. America lost it's last chance to get rid of Trump. The consequences will be severe.
She's a FAR better speaker than the guy who won.

Trump comes across as crass and crazy but also as authentic and unfiltered. And, like it or not, that has an appeal.

You sure can't describe Kamala as authentic and unfiltered. Quite the opposite.

by Anonymousreply 46November 10, 2024 4:51 PM

"And, like it or not, that has an appeal."

An appeal to the lowest common denominator.

by Anonymousreply 47November 10, 2024 5:16 PM
She didn’t have enough time to hone and test her message.

Respectfully, I don't buy that. Campaigns are constant exercises in crisis management. You don't get enough time in crisis. Ever. All the people paid to be on that campaign, all the expertise across the party.... there is no way those messages couldn't have been honed and tightened overnight if that's what it took. There is certainly no excuse for the number of times she got caught unable to answer a predictable question, like The View.

Which leads to this observation about this observation:
At some point it lost momentum, drove into the traps of some of the most recent failed Dem campaigns, etc.

I do not mean this as a criticism, but an observation: Harris is well known as a very conservative about risk taking in campaigning. You can see the wheels turning when she gets asked a tough question. She resists specificity, hence the times she gets mired in word salads. She - and this is pretty common in Dems - tries to give an inclusive answer so as not to upset anybody else. If you try to please all, you please none.

I think some time late September they started to get even more risk averse as the margins between her and Trump narrowed in the polls. She did The View Oct. 8.

by Anonymousreply 48November 10, 2024 5:26 PM

She ran a perfect campaign put together in days. It's a Blame the Bitch society tho.

by Anonymousreply 49November 10, 2024 5:36 PM

Democrats are still doing old media. MSNBC and talking to Oprah. They need to get on Joe Rogan and other podcasts. They can't dismiss the new media anymore.

by Anonymousreply 50November 10, 2024 5:37 PM

Harris is a far better speaker than Trump, and both Bushes. It's weird the standard she is held to.

by Anonymousreply 51November 10, 2024 5:38 PM

Who do you think advised her to use those fake accents?

by Anonymousreply 52November 10, 2024 5:51 PM

Sonny you are more stupid than anyone has a right to believe another person could be. Yes it's all so simple. So never ever consider a female of color for a nominee again. Especially if she were as incompetent a vice president as Harris was tied to an administration most people were unhappy with. Also never attempt to get your point across when you have no point. Just say you were never going to change despite all your disasters.

Also gleefully support riots that when people were supposed to be isolating(admittedly you were in line with all the other Dems who were anti anti vaxxers but thought people should collect in large groups anyway) which were causing deaths and terrible destruction. Harris you're a fucking genius. But you were a woman of color and that was the only thing that mattered. Never mind that you were an embarrassment to the political system and part of a system where you weren't even chosen as nominee and your president hated you so much when you lost he glowed with happiness.

by Anonymousreply 54November 10, 2024 6:10 PM

I had no idea who this Sunny woman was and had to Google her. Then I discovered she's on that morning hagfest that I never watch, nor does any grown man I know. Who gives a fuck what anyone on that show thinks? If you're a grown man and you watch it, that's just too sad.

by Anonymousreply 55November 10, 2024 9:31 PM

R55 MEANWHILE, every grown man you know watches at least one of the Housewives franchises.

by Anonymousreply 56November 11, 2024 10:33 AM

Had she won, we are facing some major economic challenges. $35 trillion of debt and growing. Businesses and taxpayers and legislators who won’t make anyone pay their fair share. A Supreme Court that places itself above its own rules and history. Social Security and Medicare funding gaps that will soon be impossible to close. An aging population that will need resources to support. Massive military expenditures while recruiting soldiers gets worse each year.

The American people decided to let it burn. Unless Trump somehow manages to hit snooze or do the mathematically impossible, he will create new coalitions begging for help.

I’m going to do my best to stay afloat and, if I’m lucky, to prosper from this disaster. The Republicans have done this over and over, which is why they don’t talk about their former presidents except vague references to Reagan’s tax cuts and militarism.

by Anonymousreply 57November 11, 2024 11:31 AM

by Anonymousreply 60November 11, 2024 3:19 PM
