With control of the Executive & both Legislative branches plus the Judiciary & with decent Republican Senators [McCain, Romney etc] gone, Obamacare can be destroyed/dismantled with no replacement even created.
Obamacare on chopping block?
by Anonymous | reply 80 | November 10, 2024 2:47 PM |
Probably. It really depends how dumb Congress is. Then it depends how little Trump gives a fuck about the electability of Republicans. But he hates Obama (and Michelle, after the election.). Obama mocked his manhood at the convention. He's not getting over that. Wouldn't you love to kill Obama's baby, especially when Pelosi was midwife?

It was not her fault
No matter what
He was going to win
Majority of Trump voters dont own a passport, have never been on airplane even, they “knew” he was not the competent choice, they said “shes more presidential” and trusted her more.
But that did not matter.
Their lives are so sad, boring & uneventful = voting for him was one of the most exciting moments of their pathetic little lives. They know he will make the news with crazy “entertaining” behavior and theatrics [ala Evita Peron and thus the millions of Hispanics who voted for him] and their daily lives will thus be “more interesting”. These are folks who dont care about our standing in the world, the long terms effects of the environment, too ignorant to realize their benefits will be cut; bye bye Obamacare, medicaid benefits.
These include people who believe democrats started hurricanes 🌀and directed them to Florida, Georgia & NC

The rethugs have always had a bug up their asses about it.
However, two factors may help save it. First, a lot of people now use it for insurance. Given the demographics, a lot of those people are likely magats. Second, a lot of insurance companies are making a lot of money from it. Some very rich people are going to be very pissed if they suddenly drop it.
What is much more likely is that they'll eliminate some of the more popular, but more expensive, aspects of it, like the requirement on pre-existing conditions.

When they remove the ban on lifetime caps, they will notice. When they kill the EPA everyone starts getting cancers from unchecked poisons. When they remove the coverage for children until 25, all the bros who voted for him will suddenly be without healthcare. When they remove the no denial for pre-existing conditions, well we all are fucked. You will have to stick with your healthcare, meaning you can never leave your job. That is just the beginning. All the Latinos who voted for Trump will get swept up in the massive deportation, suddenly demanding papers from anyone who even looks Mexican. Next, the changing or hiring gov employees to appointees so Trump can fire whoever is not loyal to him and replace them. Cronyism at it's finest. Donated a million? Sure I can get your daughter a scientist job at the EPA. I own it!. Removing any price lowering of prescriptions drugs means all of his will hit that lifetime cap sooner and insurance will no longer pay out. Trump does not have to worry about pissing off anyone. He can destroy democracy and walk away and people will call him the greatest president ever.

Key to that strategy, health policy experts said, is simple inaction. Major subsidies that lawmakers approved during President Biden’s term that have lowered the cost of plans are set to expire next year. Republicans could allow them to sunset, a move that could deprive roughly 20 million Americans of extra financial help for coverage on the Affordable Care Act’s marketplaces.
The subsidies, which are estimated to cost more than $300 billion if extended for a decade, helped Obamacare enrollment almost double during President Biden’s term, shattering records. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that 3.4 million people will lose insurance if the subsidies expire and the cost of plans rises. Lower-income Americans would still receive some federal assistance, while higher-income people would lose it altogether.
Even without Congress, Mr. Trump could recycle a playbook from his first term that dampened demand for Obamacare coverage by limiting advertising of its marketplaces, shortening the time to enroll in plans and cutting out spending on so-called navigators who help Americans choose their coverage. Enrollment plateaued during his first term.
Federal health officials are also likely to once again encourage the use of short-term health plans that skirt Affordable Care Act regulations. Some health policy experts have also warned of potential cuts and changes to Medicaid, which the Affordable Care Act dramatically expanded to cover more adults.
Many of Mr. Trump’s voters could be deeply affected by Republican proposals, including to Medicaid funding. The Biden administration published a report last week showing that nearly three million rural Americans had Obamacare plans, while more than 12 million had Medicaid coverage. Rural Americans who purchase coverage on the Affordable Care Act’s marketplaces would see costs go up by almost $90 on average every month if the enhanced subsidies expire, federal researchers wrote.
Republican-led states, Ms. Cox said, “would see some of the steepest premium increases if these subsidies expire.” Southern states, she added, have seen the most growth

Repealing the ACA at this point with nothing solid to replace it, would be instantly hurtful to tens of millions across partisan lines. Including MAGA. This goes into the category of shit Trump says to rally his followers, but it’s shit that he’d never actually make happen. Did Mexico ever pay a dime for that non-existent wall?
Deportations, on the other hand, could happen. And massive government purges and unprecedented corruption are likely.

I am more worried about the Ryan White Act being killed. All the original elder gays that survived 30 years with those drugs being paid for by that benefit will die if they suddenly have to pay 5,000 a month for meds. Since you don't die instantly, you will see the return of deaths from all the rare cancers that exploded back then like lesions on the face and body, wasting, slow death.

by Anonymous | reply 59 | November 8, 2024 10:28 AM |
"During his presidency, Mr. Trump tried but failed to repeal the Affordable Care Act, though he took steps that weakened it, for example, signing a law that eliminated the individual mandate, which required most people to maintain insurance coverage or face a tax penalty.
He also enabled the expansion of short-term plans, which didn’t meet the A.C.A.’s standards — those plans were cheaper but often provided thinner coverage that could be denied altogether because of pre-existing conditions (including pregnancy).
Americans could still see big changes if his administration does nothing to the A.C.A.: Tax subsidies that reduce the price of health care insurance for people who buy coverage through the Obamacare marketplaces could soon disappear.
The subsidies were passed as a temporary measure in 2021 and extended by the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022. They are scheduled to expire at the end of 2025, and the Trump campaign and many influential Republicans have said they don’t support extending them. That means 20 million people who benefit would probably end up paying hundreds or thousands of dollars more, and individuals earning $100,000 or more would lose access to federal assistance.
An estimated 3.4 million people will lose insurance if subsidies drop and prices rise, according to the Congressional Budget Office."

I think they will just change the name and call it Trump care . That solves the problem as far as Trump is concerned. They won't get rid of all pre existing conditions. Just some, so they can say they "fixed it."
Trump is going to have to curb his zealots. I think he doesn't want to do a lot of work. Even less than in his first term. He's a lazy fucker. So he will just take what they have a gaslight us all by saying it was him, not Biden. Steal Biden's accomplishments and take credit. It would be smart.
