I’m serious. It’s way too much. A visit to DL has become more of the daily onslaught of political ads and social media vitriol I’m trying to escape from.
Please reduce the political threads

Leave.

They have political OCD, OP. They have no hobbies or interests outside of that. In a world devoid of politics I suspect they would cease to exist or implode or something.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 7, 2024 9:49 PM |
OP, is someone forcing to come here???
Blink twice for yes.

Apparently I have blocked cunty OP already.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 7, 2024 10:03 PM |
OP is correct. The number of political ranting threads that keep popping up is absurd. A lot of them are sentimente that could be said in existing threads. And I think some are by trolls getting a kick out of making everyone angry and depressed.
But OP, you need to just block these threads.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 7, 2024 10:09 PM |
My beautiful mind shouldn't have to look at the time Trump laughed at a mass shooter's Polish last name. Or when he grabbed Ivanka by the pussy at her 2nd official appearance. Or when those 39 migrant kids got polio that spread to San Diego and the world, because fuck vaccines, who needs them( Or when Jimmy Kimmel was taken away for child porn on his phone, or that time Gaza was nuked, killing two birds with one stone. Say...Whatever happened to my local paper?

Is it possible anyone here has any suggestions for the OP and I?

Why would there be so many political threads. It's not like we just had a major election or something.

Never have I wished more that there were still subject categories at DL, so if you wanted to avoid POLITICS altogether you could by simply not clicking on that category.
And no, I'm not apolitical; but honestly, while some have interesting things to say, I don't think anyone's POV here has ever changed my mind from my own opinion. And sometimes. like right now, there's just way too much everywhere..

Absolutely, I agree OP. I've spent very little time here today and probably won't spend much time here in the future until all these political threads die out. I just can't take more Trumptalk. It's affecting my mental health.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 8, 2024 12:57 AM |
The only option is to block the POSTER of the thread and not the thread. Threads don’t stay blocked.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 8, 2024 1:03 AM |
Or you could just post a thread or two on a non- political topic. Or even bump a non political thread of interest.
The point is we don’t work for you OP.

by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 8, 2024 2:21 AM |
Or you , not you the op as such because that would be mean , you could see that there was a political and put your big boys pants on and not fucking read it. How is that so hard for people?
I have never understood people that have no the concept of ignoring or skipping over. No one is forcing anyone to read any political threads. I don’t understand why those that can’t resist want censorship to save them from themselves.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 8, 2024 2:30 AM |
[quote]I have never understood people that have no the concept of ignoring or skipping over.
It was explained in another thread earlier this evening. I, for one, don't even want to read certain names in DL headlines. How hard is that to understand, really?

by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 8, 2024 2:41 AM |
R30 oh shit we are now getting triggered because members are so sensitive even seeing certain words in the thread headline upsets and triggers them. And people want those threads and words censored so they don’t have to see them?
How pathetic , sad, and so much like the Governor of Florida.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | November 8, 2024 10:33 AM |
R6 is correct.
This place is teeming with trolls who are intent on further making others feel helpless.
The election results on their own are enough to really do a number on those of us who didn’t vote for him. I haven’t been able to go to the fucking bathroom since last Saturday, because the closer the election day got, the more my digestive system turned on itself.
I know that sounds gross or as a personal problem, but I’m sharing this in order to remind all of you that the body really does keep the score. Anxiety will do a number on one’s physical & emotional health in ways that really matter.
Please take time to NOT listen to or read the news. It could overwhelm your health in ways you didn’t expect, as there’s only so much negative information your body can absorb before affecting you, especially if you’re no longer in your 20s, or already have health conditions that make you vulnerable to the political fallout we’re about to be dragged into, AGAIN.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 8, 2024 10:56 AM |
Thank you for saying this, OP. We're letting politics rule our lives, an obsession. Politics is not what life should be about. It is a despicable business involving lots of despicable people, on both sides of the aisle.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 8, 2024 11:20 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 8, 2024 11:22 AM |
R36 the winners are gloating and dancing and experiencing joy today.
Losers sit around complaining and saying that we are letting politics rule our lives. Said of course only after the Dems, Harris, and DL got fucking crushed in the election.
Fucking crushed.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 8, 2024 12:09 PM |
On the contrary, I think it's nice to have a place where people can vent about politics without many MAGAts assailing them with insults.
If you try and discuss it on Twitter you'll have multiple Trump fans on your ass in seconds. They're a mixture of bots and real life people, but they're equally annoying.
Just yesterday I had some weird fool with suffragette symbols in her bio telling me the "rainbow crowd is over". And she wasn't referring to trans people, as I made it very clear I'm a biological gay man.
And yes I know it's mostly basement dwellers sounding off online because they'd be too scared to say anything in real life, but they're still best avoided.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 8, 2024 12:13 PM |
R33 it’s about censorship. Deciding what others should read. It’s about protecting the overly sensitive and easily triggered from seeing words that will upset them. It’s bout stopping others from posting what they want.
Fuck and people ask why American went with the GOP Tuesday ? America hates easily triggered weaklings .
by Anonymous | reply 40 | November 8, 2024 12:19 PM |
R38, with all due respect: people here aren’t losers. They’re merely attempting to make sense of why Americans overwhelmingly voted for a president who behaves in ways that are morally reprehensible.
People are mourning the death of idealism, the specific type of idealism that they once believed shaped and founded this country, & that eventually led to Civil Rights & so much more.
Whether you choose to believe this or not, people aren’t just upset about Trump becoming president again. They’re flabbergasted that their fellow Americans actually believe that he’s interested in looking after their best interests, when he has consistently & repeatedly shown us that he’s actually not interested in anything or anyone other than himself. This indicates that they’re just like him, and YES… that’s a hard pill to swallow for people who seek a better life not only for themselves, but for others as well.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 8, 2024 12:40 PM |
R40, your choice of words and phrasing mimics the words and phrasing of persons who are not born, raised & living in America.
You come off as a troll, just in case you’re wondering.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 8, 2024 12:44 PM |
[quote] But OP, you need to just block these threads.
That's what I've done. It's also curious the number of newly blocked posters have just that one thread. Hmmm.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 8, 2024 12:54 PM |
R42 what a smart cookie you are. You nailed it. You caught another Boris. You are really good at this. How many have you caught?
I would blame the school districts in Michigan for how I write but Moscow makes so much better sense.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 8, 2024 12:59 PM |
Bullshit on the censorship claims. No one said NO political threads, just calm the fuck down already. We don't need 25 new threads every day. And I say bullshit because you know those say people would be crying bloody murder if they came to DL and each day saw 25 new threads about OG Dark Shadows or Liza Minnelli. Not only do they have TDS and OCD but they're hypocrites too. And more than a few are just flat out trolls.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 8, 2024 1:09 PM |
Some people are still processing this; since it's still fresh, there will be several threads.
I think what most people are having a hard time trying to understand is how 73 million people believe Donald Trump is okay. What's unnerving to some is that many of those 73 million don't wear red hats, don't put Trump flags in their yards, don't attend his rallies, don't scream the N-word, and welcome gay people into their lives and homes. They seem like okay people, and that fucks with your head.
For me personally, it's Friday, and I've made peace with it. Trump is coming back. He's probably going to get a couple of more Supreme Court justices, he'll have a whacky cabinet, and the country will change. Oh well, let the people have the leaders they deserve.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | November 8, 2024 1:18 PM |
It does seem a bit suspect, the vast number of new threads being started since Wednesday morning that all seem to be doing the same thing: try to get Dataloungers upset. They usually have just 1 quick sentence or paragraph. There are hundreds.
I get it, the need to vent, unload, process. But there’s a certain flavor to these quick-hit threads that smells like we’re being played.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | November 8, 2024 1:27 PM |
R46, it’s a teachable moment for those who are shocked to learn that there are a lot of people who have different views than their own. Sometimes those views can be quite different. For those of us who were already aware that other people exist with different views, it’s easier to process the results.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 8, 2024 1:28 PM |
R46 I can completely understand that point of view. You definitely get a sense of betrayal. I don't even live in the US, but election coverage has still dominated our media over the last few days, given we have a vested interest in the UK. I felt similar after the Brexit result. I couldn't understand why so many bought all the lies of the leave campaign and gloated about the result to "Remoaners" as we were branded.
I think the red-hat wearing MAGAs are actually a small part of those 73 million. Many of them are decent people who don't even think about politics much, but probably thought it was "time for a change". It's a phrase I really dislike, but many voters are like that - ie they see the incumbent as having failed so their mindset is "why would I vote for more of that?" even if it's not directly the fault of the Democrat party. I honestly don't think many of them are homophobic, so even though they've invited you into their homes, I doubt they'd been slurring you behind your back. It's a bit like when I've pulled up people for saying mildly racist stuff in the past by pointing out to them that they have good working relationships with people of colour, and their reply is always along the lines of: "yeah but I don't mean THEM".
Many people have this weird disconnect where they have an idea of a group of people in their head that doesn't derive from any real world experience. And I think many of them know deep down it's wrong as well.
Of course, there are also complete assholes among those 73 million. Those are the ones crowing and gloating about the result while seemingly drunk on the idea of being as vile as possible to "the libs" on the understanding that said libs are now in the minority. But they're honestly better off ignored. Without the attention they crave they'll soon melt back to their ordinary lives while secretly wondering why said lives aren't actually any better under a Trump presidency. Not that they'll ever vocalise said thoughts!

There are people on DL who use it only, or mostly, for political commentary and they want it to be a political site. IMO, all those throwaway threads were started to flood the zone to keep as much as possible of the discussion on DL to be about politics, and not let it slip away to the much needed lighter fare. It’s among the people doing this where you’ll find the straight people contingent of DL.

Why don't you try starting interesting threads to break up the mix? People are stressed but will likely take refuge in fresh topics.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | November 8, 2024 2:01 PM |
I am surprised we have almost any threads other than political threads. I am also surprised that those who want to avoid political threads would spend their time on the Internet and not be doing something else.
Bowling is one suggestion. Go bowling and you will feel a lot better and much less stressed.

Give it time in a few weeks the political threads might slow a bit. Then it will be safer to return.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | November 8, 2024 2:52 PM |
Honestly! This thread is hilarious! Here's a newsflash OP - there has been a monumental, historical election in the US this week which affects the whole world. And even worse - Trump the circus clownshow and constant turmoil creator has been re-elected and this is going to affect the whole world. And even worse - Trump and his administration has the gays in their target sights so we're probably gonna be talking about it a lot. Datalounge is going to be literally filled with daily threads about Trump and all the crazy shit that's coming for the next 5 years if not longer. It's going to be Trump wall to wall 24/7.
Some of you sound like the princess from "The Princess and the Pea". I've never understood the point of blocking on DL. Why on earth would you visit a forum where you eventually end up talking to yourself because you have the whole site blocked because you aren't able to cope with reality. Why don't you just scroll past the threads you don't want to view? That's what I do when I don't want to read about something.
OP are you this poster?
by Anonymous | reply 56 | November 8, 2024 2:56 PM |
Would someone be so kind to post the first statement from a new admin official that mentions specifically going after the gay community. Not your opinions on what you think they mean but their actual statements.
And please the Dems just can’t fight the term family values. That makes us look like we are anti family. It makes us look stupid ..
Now when they actually mention going after the gay community, removing security clearances, trying to end gay marriage, setting up camps., forbidding hiv meds, etc etc that’s the sort of thing we need to hear.
Please don’t counter with the GOP is in favor of family values.

by Anonymous | reply 59 | November 8, 2024 3:25 PM |
R59 I did.
But I did not see one thing about doing away with gay marriage in a document that is supposed to be an actual plan.
How do you have a plan allegedly to take away gay marriage and forget to mention gay marriage at all. You think they were scared of the queer communities? All 7.2% of them in the GLBTQ+++?
Yes I know one can’t trust trump but he is non record as saying he had no problem with gay marriages.
But please in a country where less than 2% are gay men and almost the entire country is straight it’s not unusual to see family values being pushed.
Join the Dems we are anti family values. ( this does not sell)
