Will you stop watching CNN and MSNBC now?

Isn’t it time to close the book on cable news and all their bullshit and theatrics already?

by Anonymousreply 85November 12, 2024 7:03 AM

My partner watching MSNBC all fucking day. It makes me crazy

If I never see Rachel, Chris H or Nicole W, again, ill be happy

I’m so done with cable news. I just watch local news to keep abreast of local stuff/weather

by Anonymousreply 1November 7, 2024 7:39 PM

Notice how the OP neglects to include Fox, OAN, and Newsmax. And shouldn't Conservative Talk Radio (a redundant description at this point) be included too?

by Anonymousreply 2November 7, 2024 7:45 PM

My partners works from home since COVID and MSNBC is on constantly.

I put my foot down after the election. We need a break for a long while.

by Anonymousreply 3November 7, 2024 7:46 PM

I have stopped years ago.

by Anonymousreply 4November 7, 2024 7:47 PM

I'll be giving it up soon. Does my head in. Stories about the transition (today CNN had Jr. speaking) I rush to turn the volume down. I can't stand to see it. Their endless chatter about it, soon to give way to OMG coverage... it just reminds me how futile it is and the nightmare we're living, It's bad enough to know it's happening without CNN programming it. So, going away, yes.

by Anonymousreply 5November 7, 2024 8:16 PM

It only works if everybody drops them.

by Anonymousreply 6November 7, 2024 8:19 PM
Notice how the OP neglects to include Fox, OAN, and Newsmax. And shouldn't Conservative Talk Radio (a redundant description at this point) be included too?

How many DLers were brainwashed by Fox, etc vs. MSNBC, which was all-women's issues all the time? The power of women will elect the first black woman. Most believed them and look what happened. MSNBC, and to a lesser extent, CNN, were trusted by many DLers.

by Anonymousreply 7November 7, 2024 9:09 PM

R7- I never watched them to begin with.

by Anonymousreply 8November 7, 2024 9:22 PM

Agreed, there should be a mass exodus from them

by Anonymousreply 9November 7, 2024 9:23 PM

Sometimes, this is when they shine. When they rise to the occasion.

by Anonymousreply 10November 7, 2024 9:23 PM

I was one of these people who had MSNBC on all the time. Watched the prime time blocks every night. After it announced on Wednesday morning at 5:30 that Trump was the winner, I turned off the television and haven't turned it on since.

I'm done. If there's something truly important or dire, I can see it BEARKING on DL.

by Anonymousreply 11November 7, 2024 9:24 PM

I dropped cable in the first year of Bush II. Could not stand the sound of that man's voice.

by Anonymousreply 12November 7, 2024 9:46 PM

Thanks Trumper.

by Anonymousreply 13November 7, 2024 10:56 PM

Most of us, I think, probably have streaming.

CBS, NBC, and ABC all have free 24/7 streaming news which is better at summarizing the news of the day than the traditional cable networks.

For those who want a more traditional streaming news experience, SkyNews is free on Roku, etc.

All the major cable networks are now is six people sitting around a curved desk yammering. No different from The View.

by Anonymousreply 14November 7, 2024 11:32 PM

Short answer: yes.

It must really be embarrassing for Joyce Vance, Maya Wiley, Jason Johnson, Ari Melber and all the other "Trump is soon to be toast experts" to be seen in public.

by Anonymousreply 15November 7, 2024 11:36 PM

The last time the orange pustule was in power, I watched MSNBC nearly every night, outraged by what was happening.

This time, I’m too exhausted and disheartened (and I’m Canadian!!)

I [italic]might[/italic] watch Rachel and Lawrence once in a while, but the whole situation is just too frightening and sad to be glued to it like last time.

by Anonymousreply 16November 7, 2024 11:45 PM

Will stop? I quit them when they invited Dump for ‘’Town Haul’’

by Anonymousreply 17November 7, 2024 11:54 PM
Notice how the OP neglects to include Fox, OAN, and Newsmax. And shouldn't Conservative Talk Radio (a redundant description at this point) be included too?

You honestly think people on here watch that crap? The latter aren’t cable news, btw.

by Anonymousreply 18November 8, 2024 12:24 AM

Don't forget the Right Side Broadcasting Network! All Trump, all the time!

And you can even order Trump Limited Edition Coins and ivermectin from the home screen for your convenience!

by Anonymousreply 19November 8, 2024 12:35 AM

I don’t want to hear daily what atrocities he’s committing because nothing will happen to him- it’s pointless to get angry or stressed out about what is going to be happening. Community over Country.

by Anonymousreply 20November 8, 2024 12:40 AM

Dumped all of cable news after the first presidential debate this year. Also, canceled the Wash Post & NY Times. Yesterday, I deleted all of the political folks/shows from my Twitter and will simply follow sports/entertainment/local news. Reading for pleasure now and doing things away from the computer. It feels so much better.

by Anonymousreply 21November 8, 2024 12:43 AM

I stopped watching cable news halfway through Trump’s first term, around 2019, I guess. I haven’t watched it since. I’ve seen a few clips here and there but I never turn it on. I read. Cable news is just political pornography. A friend of mine works at CNN and told me they when they announced Trump had won the executives cheered. She was shocked. These networks make millions over talking about Trump. Ted Turner didn’t create CNN to be politics 24/7. It was supposed to be world news. Everything is now political talking heads. It’s not news, it’s opinion and you’d never know that anything but what the president is doing or house and senate races were happening. They discuss nothing else. It’s like an episode of Maury: it’s either lie detector tests or who the baby daddy. It’s the same crap every day. Turn it off. You’ll feel much better. Take 45 minutes out of the day to look up news and leave it be. That’s how we used to function: evening news and newspapers. None of this 24/7 crap.

by Anonymousreply 22November 8, 2024 1:08 AM

I did not hear or see any news until after the polls closed on Tuesday. Following months and really years of this BS I was OVER it, so no matter what the final outcome, I was out to lunch on the damn election. It is all out of anyone's control, especially mine, so really, what is the point. I'm back to local only news. I know people that watch FOX all day, every day. It is no wonder the country turned into Dumbfuckitan.

by Anonymousreply 23November 8, 2024 1:18 AM

I’m getting all my news from TicToc

by Anonymousreply 24November 8, 2024 1:23 AM

I live alone, and I am an MSNBC addict. I don't have any streaming services (Netflix, Apple Plus, etc.) However, over the pas six months or so, I have found myself watching more podcasts on YouTube. I like turning on the TV for a while during the day or night, but certainly not for hours on end which used to be the case for me.

But I just don't think (or want to) give up my cable. The thought of it makes me anxious. I don't know, maybe I could. I am sick of TV pundits for the moment after this devastating election. Trump is an abomination and a criminal; I cannot stomach him, and the country will suffer in the next fours years. But I like politics, political analysis and national news. I never watch local news, which is just dumb beyond words.

by Anonymousreply 25November 8, 2024 1:30 AM

I stopped watching years ago. I like my journalists to at least pretend to be dignified. Granted discussing Trump makes that a challenge, but they really leaned into the theatrics.

by Anonymousreply 26November 8, 2024 2:05 AM

Watched MSNBC all the time (Rachel, Lawrence O'Donnell). Now I'm kind of burned out. May start watching again when the Trump shit hits the fan. Right now I just need comfort TV.

by Anonymousreply 27November 8, 2024 2:08 AM

No more news or analysis. Finished with all y'all.

by Anonymousreply 28November 8, 2024 2:15 AM

No more YouTube either. Done.

by Anonymousreply 29November 8, 2024 2:16 AM

You should drive a shit n piss mobile

by Anonymousreply 30November 8, 2024 2:19 AM
I’m getting all my news from TicToc

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 31November 8, 2024 2:21 AM

R26, I’m sure the majority of the dopes you watch aren’t journalists. They’re talking heads.

by Anonymousreply 32November 8, 2024 2:22 AM

Nicole Wallace saying she deleted twitter for her own "self-preservation" was a bit much. Just don't look at it.

by Anonymousreply 33November 8, 2024 2:30 AM

I'm fucking done with politics. I'll be 64 in December, I'm trying to retire at 68 which ironically will be the end of his term. I just can't handle thinking about or being interested in politics anymore. That's the only way I can think of to prevent having a four year anxiety attack. No more political news, tweets, Subreddits. I'm fucking over it.

by Anonymousreply 34November 8, 2024 2:42 AM

64? How young.

by Anonymousreply 35November 8, 2024 2:43 AM

CNN has been dead for years. The home of bothsisesism. Their ratings are justifiably in the toilet.

MSNBC really needs to butch up. Too estrogen heavy. They need an angry, male firebrand in prime time attracting male viewers and raising hell.

Ari, deadpan reciting rap lyrics, is so lame it’s an embarrassment. He adds nothing. Lawrence is the king of smug.

I’m not watching it until the midterms. If that soon.

by Anonymousreply 36November 8, 2024 2:53 AM

Hell, no. I don't trust him one bit and need to see what he's doing.

by Anonymousreply 37November 8, 2024 2:58 AM

Because of his mandate win, I am now done with all things the US. This VERY much includes watching any cable news. That's for damn sure.

The whole thing is sad. I truly love this place. One of my favorite things to do is read presidential bios. But that is all over for me. The country overwhelmingly wants a dictator. I do not.

So I am not part of the mandate. At all. But I realize I lost and so did those that think like me. Therefore, whatever happens from here on out has really nothing to do with me. Wish everyone the best, but I am going to focus on my career, reading, playing guitar, writing, watching tennis and watching good movies.

I wish the US and world all the best.

by Anonymousreply 38November 8, 2024 3:00 AM

You pussy fags need to man up and watch MSNBC. What are you, too busy putting things in your butt?

Nasty!

by Anonymousreply 39November 8, 2024 3:02 AM

I mostly agree, although I like my CNN prime time views occasionally (except for later than and, therefore, excluding Erin Burnett and Wolf Blitzer, whom I cannot stand). Plus lately I like especially the current after-Anderson show hosts’ personalities and talking points.

MSNBC, meanwhile, has a lineup and anchors that come off as hack CNNer-wannabes to me.

But after last night’s post-Election Night binge viewing…yep, I’ve turned them off for a while now.

by Anonymousreply 40November 8, 2024 3:09 AM

Yes, both are off my screen till at least 2025

by Anonymousreply 41November 8, 2024 3:11 AM

Haven't watched it in years. Anyone with even minimal critical thinking skills and some factual knowledge could see that it was Pravda West, total propaganda. If you haven't see the truth in the past 6 months, damn you are damn dumb.

by Anonymousreply 42November 8, 2024 3:13 AM

And get rid of Chris Hayes. He oozes more estrogen than Van Jones watching Beyoncé videos.

by Anonymousreply 43November 8, 2024 3:29 AM

CNN is unwatchable except for a few that I happen to like. Fox and the rest are absurd propaganda. I wouldn't even know where to turn for legitimate journalism anymore. Reuters? I'm throwing in the towel. I'm done. I guess I will smoke even more than copious amounts of pot for the next four or more years. Life goes on until it doesn't.

by Anonymousreply 44November 8, 2024 3:34 AM

I can remember when CNN and Larry King were the go to place for commentary and news.

Just think what we are missing!

We have Chita Moreno here to discuss the Puerto Rican issue.

by Anonymousreply 45November 8, 2024 6:18 AM
MSNBC really needs to butch up. Too estrogen heavy. They need an angry, male firebrand in prime time attracting male viewers and raising hell.

R36. I'm an MSNBC-only addict, and I like your idea a lot.

(I guess Jonathan Capeheart on "The Sunday Show" isn't it.)

by Anonymousreply 46November 8, 2024 7:18 AM

There is still one news guy I will always admire. Dan Rather.. He is one of the last good guy.s.

by Anonymousreply 47November 8, 2024 7:24 AM

I had stopped watching CNN years ago. And I pretty much had turned off MSNBC over the last year or so. Only turned to it when something significant was happening. But, yeah, it's time to check out for a while. It's all out of my control, so why make myself anxious, upset and depressed. I'm not saying I'm going to turn a blind eye to the next four years. I'm just not going to invest any mental and emotional energy to it anymore.

by Anonymousreply 48November 8, 2024 7:40 AM

R48, that's the immediate survival strategy. Legacy media has dramatically changed and perhaps the industry will change. Just like how Spotify and independent ways to get music out instead of binding/onerous recording contracts.

by Anonymousreply 49November 8, 2024 1:34 PM
R36]. I'm an MSNBC-only addict, and I like your idea a lot. (I guess Jonathan Capeheart on "The Sunday Show" isn't it.)

That sissy-boy fag? I’m pretty sure he stole my panties to wear.

I’m surprised he shows up Sunday after putting so many penises in his anus on Saturday night.

Nasty!

by Anonymousreply 50November 8, 2024 7:59 PM

I’ve now stopped watching ALL news. It’s all bad and the stories will only get progressively more horrific ever day of the new administration.

by Anonymousreply 51November 8, 2024 8:03 PM

I now watch pornography exclusively. I prefer watching real head and real dick rather than a bunch of dickheads.

by Anonymousreply 52November 8, 2024 8:05 PM

I agree, all of it sucks. Every cable news channel has turned into "watch us, your life depends on it!" extremism.

Of course this includes Fox News, but also the numerous liberal leaning networks.

I despise how all television news has become largely "editorial" opinions. Give me a robot reading just facts with zero emotion or inflection.

by Anonymousreply 53November 8, 2024 8:06 PM
And get rid of Chris Hayes. He oozes more estrogen than Van Jones watching Beyoncé videos.

Even if Van is crying at the time?

by Anonymousreply 54November 8, 2024 8:08 PM

I've stopped following the liberal and anti-Trump politirati on social media too. It's so obvious now that those people have no clue what they're talking about. They just said the things I wanted to hear instead of being honest with me about how fucked up things are. They're just the opposite side of the Fox/Rogan/Musk coin.

by Anonymousreply 55November 8, 2024 8:13 PM

I have no doubt Van and Chris apologize prior to consensual sex and then cry with guilt for two hours after.

They will be castrated and sing as sopranos in the White House choir once the new world order is in place.

by Anonymousreply 56November 8, 2024 8:16 PM

No corporate media of any kind.

by Anonymousreply 57November 8, 2024 8:18 PM

I'll watch Lawrence, but no more Rachel for me. I tune into CNN once in awhile, but I hate their format now, so I mostly avoid it, though I do like Abby.

by Anonymousreply 58November 8, 2024 8:28 PM

I like Abby too but I can't stand the noisy combat that is her show. She could do better with substance, exploring every issue and risk with non-partisan experts.

by Anonymousreply 59November 8, 2024 8:36 PM

There’s only one news channel. Fox News.

If you know what’s good for you.

by Anonymousreply 60November 8, 2024 8:36 PM

I’m pretty sure Taylor Swift is about to be sold to some middle eastern sheik as punishment for her betrayal.

Her parents will be scrubbing toilets at Mar-a-Lago.

by Anonymousreply 61November 8, 2024 8:38 PM

The opinion model of news broadcasting is obviously much cheaper than having well-trained journalist correspondents stationed all over the world

by Anonymousreply 62November 8, 2024 8:45 PM

Keith Olbermann had me convinced of a surprise Harris landslide being quite possible. I’m done with his podcast too.

by Anonymousreply 63November 8, 2024 8:48 PM

Keith will be serving as a human scarecrow in a Nebraska cornfield once the new world order is in place.

by Anonymousreply 64November 8, 2024 8:49 PM

Is there any lesbian-friendly country that Rachel can move to with a strong military?

by Anonymousreply 65November 8, 2024 8:51 PM

Keith Olberman and Rachel Maddow are just cable news entertainers. When they predict something you can be sure they’re usually wrong. I have no idea why people think RM is so amazing. I find her a total bore.

by Anonymousreply 66November 8, 2024 9:00 PM

I've deleted my Twitter account too, just like Nicolle Wallace, although I did it because I'm disgusted with Elon Musk. I just don't want to hear any news at all. I would be happy if some of the smart people I saw on Twitter would switch over to Threads or something but it's easier to just ignore all that social media.

by Anonymousreply 67November 8, 2024 9:18 PM

As others have said, I don’t to hear about all the daily atrocities- there’s nothing I can do about but ignore

by Anonymousreply 68November 8, 2024 9:21 PM

Van Johnson cried about President Biden's weakened appearance during the debate. Enfeebled as he may appear, the president has yet to fall asleep in public or scream about the illegal blacks "eatin' duh dawgs".

by Anonymousreply 69November 9, 2024 12:12 AM

I cancelled my cable, NYTimes subscription, deleted all social media accounts....going into stealth mode to preserve my mental health. Going to focus on fixing my house, saving more money, and spending time with friends and family who aren't bat shit crazy dumsterfire supporters.....I've also collected my parents and grandparents documents (they are from Italy and Portugal) and applying for citizenship to both countries, I am told I have a good chance of getting both - an escape plan I guess. America has spoken, they are dumb and hateful and the American experiment is ending....all empires fail, and all democracies turn to dictatorships - we are no different than the rest of the world - I just didn't think I'd see it in my lifetime - we're only about 250 years old.....oh well - good luck fellas .......

by Anonymousreply 70November 9, 2024 1:03 AM

I think R70 raises a real possibility... the country may be changed for the worse and for quite a long time. Longer than four years, certainly.

by Anonymousreply 71November 9, 2024 1:04 AM

Cable news is now almost all panels of people. MSNBC is full of panels in which everyone agrees with each other. On CNN the panelists argue with each other. Everything is analysis, opinion and stategery. There is very little news reading anymore and less and less actual reporting.

People should just tune out.

by Anonymousreply 72November 9, 2024 1:10 AM

Anderson Cooper did a really insightful interview with a non-partisan expert last night about some aspect of Trump's intentions. It was value add. Naturally it was at the end of the show. But I thought more of this kind of content would be helpful. Politicians are both sides talk shit - message, message, message, message. Even Katie Porter today was 90% messaged bullshit. But it won't happen. CNN thinks it thrives on a new anchor every hour and cage fights.

by Anonymousreply 73November 9, 2024 1:15 AM
Anderson Cooper did a really insightful interview

This never happened.

by Anonymousreply 74November 9, 2024 1:16 PM

CNN will be dead soon. Their bothesidesism pisses everyone off. The psycho right will be on Fox all day and the left will temporarily dump MSNBC and eventually return home for comfort once the scabs form.

MSNBC need to dump half the women and hire some firebrand men. Getting rid of that old bat Andrea Mitchell was a good start. No more pussy Chris Hayes types.

CNN has zero relevance.

by Anonymousreply 75November 9, 2024 1:23 PM

Andrea Mitchell and Katy Tur are unwatchable. They've ruined all of daytime msnbc.

by Anonymousreply 76November 9, 2024 2:08 PM

R74, fair enough.

How about: Anderson asked a series of questions that accidentally yielded interesting from one person, substantive content rather than partisan bickering from many.

(Though I admit, I am entertained by Ana Navarro's volcano impression.)

by Anonymousreply 77November 9, 2024 2:44 PM

You fag pussies need to man up and start watching MSNBC.

Stop being so gross and putting things in your anus.

You’re so nasty.

Nasty!

by Anonymousreply 78November 9, 2024 6:25 PM

I only watch Nicolle Wallace. CNN has just become Faux News-lite.

by Anonymousreply 79November 10, 2024 4:59 AM

When they had Trump on for a Town Hall, I refused to watch CNN ever again. Losers just looking to give a platform to crazy to bolster ratings.

by Anonymousreply 80November 10, 2024 5:11 AM

The good news is that FOX will have nothing to complain about come January. Maybe that might kill off the network!

by Anonymousreply 81November 12, 2024 5:21 AM

R81 they'll find reasons.

If anything goes wrong, we'll be blamed. Somehow.

Just watch.

by Anonymousreply 82November 12, 2024 5:27 AM

Will I stop watching Newsmax and RSBN?

by Anonymousreply 83November 12, 2024 5:30 AM

Newsmax and OAN are bigger than Fox News now.

by Anonymousreply 84November 12, 2024 5:55 AM

I stopped watching the day after the election. I used to say to people I was interested in how the rise of Hitler happened, and I felt I was seeing it again. I know what happens from here.

The last thing I saw was Rachel Maddow, for whom I have a lot of respect, telling her viewers that they had to fight for democracy and try to prevent the worst excesses of the new regime. My reaction was: the regime is the result of democracy. Most people voted for it. So trying to fight it is just being a Jan 6-er for the other side. If you uphold democracy, you have to uphold it when you don't like it too.
