Let the prices at Walmart soar to the sky. Let the MAGATs see.Let them control it all. Let them get so cold they need to burn their MAGA hats and flags for fuel. Bless their hearts. Let's take care of ourselves and maintain social services that only support our community.
I CANNOT wait for tariffs!

But we'll have Religious Freedom!
by Anonymous | reply 1 | November 7, 2024 12:05 PM |
We have a community food bank withOUT a religious affiliation a few towns over. I'll drive the extra 30 minutes to drop off a can of corn before I even think about donating to the church one.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 7, 2024 12:10 PM |
Indeed. When Trump doesn't "stop inflation", the MAGAts will initially make excuses like "well, he needs more time", but as time goes on they'll either pretend he didn't say it, or the scales will start to fall from their eyes and they'll turn on him.
Many will just keep quiet though because they'll be too proud and stubborn to admit they got it wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 7, 2024 12:12 PM |
They will just continue to blame Biden and Obama. Maybe even Hillary. That is their go-to.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 7, 2024 12:47 PM |
I have Apple News which includes quite a few conservative publications. It’s been interesting to see how the neoliberals deal with the extremely non-neoliberal tariff plan. Most are convinced it’s bluster.
It will be interesting to see what Trump does.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 7, 2024 1:08 PM |
R4 is correct.
No matter what, even if we had another scenario similar to 9/11 (heaven forbid) within a few years under Trump, republicans will without question blame democrats.
As far as tariffs are concerned? We shall see if that launches. C’mon guys! We’ve all been here before, & cannot take anything DJT says or threatens seriously. He says anything & nothing, all at once.

I'm absolutely terrified. I'm homeless living in hotels. I'm making enough money with my gig work to pay essentially over 3000 a month in rent. My credit got ruined when a previous motel scammed me out of my security deposit - accusing me of hiding a second nonexistent pet. The few places I did get interviews for before this happened - it was clearly over when I told them I'd have to show my payment history in a huge tome of all my daily and weekly payments because I'm not a w2 worker. The eyes glazing over 'oh yeah, that'll be uh fine...'
I'm making nearly 90k gross a year and I don't own shoes without holes, my fridge/freezer and multicooking appliance broke and now I can only eat convenience meals, I haven't seen a doctor or a dentist in over 5 years and I think dental infections could kill me at any time at this point. I have no family and because I have no coworkers and have to spend nearly my entire waking 24/7 life working so I don't end up on the street tomorrow I can't save up for a security deposit and I have no social circle. This is entirely my fault because I'm willing to deal with this rather than confront my intense and totally irrational megafear about moving in with strangers and renting a room. So I guess it is my fault for being crazy or whatever. The point is I'm really scared of tarrifs. I was making so much money before inflation that none of my problems I have now would exist at all when I could easily make over 250-300 plus a day. Not that that's amazing money or anything but I'd have my head well above water. I'm a bit embarrassed about saying any of this because no one cares, it's my own stupid self imposed hell and whatever. I don't get to vent or talk about anything anywhere but here this is my only home in a way. Sorry. I'm really scared of the tariffs.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 7, 2024 6:42 PM |
We had food banks during Trump 1.0 in Appalachia after his trade wars and after Covid. They'll be standing in line again, and continue to support Dump wholeheartedly. They'll just blame it on Adam Schiff or Nancy Pelosi.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 7, 2024 6:47 PM |
R8 So, you make 90K a year and have 3K a month to spend on rent yet you live in various cheap hotels? And your shoes have holes? Where do you live, Zurich? 💰
Also, your hotel has a refrigerator/freezer? And it’s broken? Then the hotel should repair it.
Your story has more holes than your alleged shoes.

Saw something on Reddit earlier (so take it with a grain of salt) from a woman whose husband works at a small manufacturing company in Pennsylvania with mostly trump-supporting employees. The company president called a meeting today where he told them they have to buy a year’s worth of products before trump is sworn in to avoid the anticipated tariffs, so no one will get their annual xmas bonus. Apparently, the president had to explain to everyone how tariffs work because they all thought it was paid by the foreign company.

I'm very worried about the ACA. It's been 9 years of fuckery and still no plan. I dread to think who will write the Bill now, how awful it will be and how easily it might pass if he has the House and Senate.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 7, 2024 7:21 PM |
Great R11. I guess we can expect more hoarding in the months to come. I'm sure that'll help bring down prices. Better stock up on toilet paper, I guess.

r10 i'm thinking about my income from before inflation. that's embarrassing, it's way down from that to about 53k gross calculating now. which i haven't done in so long because i've given up i guess. this is a bit of a wake up call because i really should be working like 10-12 hours a day if i'm only making this much. the rent goes from about 2100 a month during the cheap months to 3200-3400 throughout the 4 month peak. i do have to borrow money fairly often to stay off the street the next day, i didn't with what i was making before, but inflation tanked the delivery markets people aren't spending extra money on stuff like takeout. i've made an incredible fool out of myself and i'll probably never post here again. my deepest apologies to datalounge you deserve better than a stupid careless white trash idiot fool and i honestly shouldn't even be wasting time online. sorry sorry sorry really i am

I'm sure Heritage has the ACA repeal bill already written, but how will they deal with all of those pissed off healthcare insurance companies that will lose millions of customers?
It's gonna be bad, whatever they do. I'm just wondering how they'll navigate this when one of their largest lobby groups might lose money.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 7, 2024 8:04 PM |
Exactly OP. those of us who know better will stock up now, pay down any large bills, loans, credit as much as we can, keep our heads down, and shut up, because we don't need any criticism from idiots. Let them suffer the full consequences for their ignorance, hatred, state of delusion, and terrible choices. And though they blame Democrats, they will secretly be aghast and ashamed how bad everything is under Trump

I don't think Trump will do anything about tariffs or anything else. He isn't going to be running the show. He couldn't be bothered to outline any policies in his rallies, he just rambled etc. The people who voted for him were voting for a Republican administration. He just wants to stay out of jail, he doesn't want to dick around with real administrative duties.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 7, 2024 9:19 PM |
He's lazy and stupid, he won't do any work. In his first term, he didn't even come downstairs from the residence until 11:00 AM. He just wants attention, being president is like being the star of his own tv show.

R19 Latest on Axios is 'His top ranks will be filled with billionaires, former CEOs, tech leaders and loyalists.'
Those guys may be smart enough to not do tarriffs but billionaires and loyalists here could mean loons with no experience who will try.
And also ^^^ working class party LOL Those latino men are going to lose rights, protections, get laid off and see their jobs shipped overseas or filled by cheap migrants.

No, they won't. They're a cult and will never turn on glorious leader.
Cheeto and his minions will come up with some whacked out, crazy excuse that somehow blames the liberals and the deep state, and they'll lap it up.
WE know it's due to tariffs. But, have you seen them? 90% of them have no idea what a "tariff" even is, and those that have some vague inkling that it's about charging other countries more to import stuff to the US will cheer because they'll be sticking it to that other country without having any idea that it will cause retail price increases.
You're giving them way too much credit. If anything, it will energize them further and make them even more devoted by which will allow him to enact even more draconian legislation.

I've been delaying buying a new car to replace my 10 year old Sonic. Thinking I better buy something before these tariffs go into effect, as car prices are going to skyrocket.

R6 - just a reminder that Trump has been talking about tariffs for 30+ years and they are something he can do by executive order.

My best friend’s husband is an exec at a huge carpet manufacturer. He just returned from a trip to the South to visit stores that buy their carpet. He said all the store owners he visited were giddy with Trump’s win. He asked how happy are you going to be when he imposes tariffs. They were dumbfounded when he explained how it would impact them.
I’m very privileged. I make a good living and I’ll benefit from a trumps plan to gut taxes on the wealthy. Own a home plus three rental properties. Im the the only demographic that will benefit from his economic policy. And yet I skipped to the polls to vote against him. I absolutely don’t get how middle class people who allegedly are so worried about the economy under Biden, which even the WSJ called a global miracle, would vote for this lunatic, who is going to fuck over anyone who doesn’t make 400k a year. Because “he’s a successful businessman.”
I’m so sorry for the folks struggling to make ends meet who didn’t vote for this fool because they’ll be fucked, too. But I can’t wait to watch his supporters when they are hit with the reality of what’s to come.
