The fat lady has a point. The US has the second most archaic electoral system in the world - it's basically a worse version of the British system, which is also plenty atrocious in its own right.

Look up "first past the post" if you are unfamiliar and curious. There are very good reasons that there are only a handful of countries left that still use such a system.

You want to break the two party duopoly, the only option is to modernize the electoral system. Neither party would be incentivized to undertake such a task since they both benefit from it and stand to lose a lot of power if it were to be changed.

For those that want to see change, what can they do but to protest? Futile effort, admirable attempt.

That you have no way to extract any concessions from your party because you have no electoral leverage? That the party can get away with literally anything including genocide because you have nowhere else to go? Tell me in what ways is this meaningfully different from a dictatorship?

At least these people are aware of this reality and aren't kidding themselves. They should be the ones looking down on you.

Making demands of the political parties is not problematic, OP. The parties are supposed to earn our votes by addressing our needs and concerns. It's not your job to protect the parties from accountability by demanding that the people keep quiet and fall in line. That's not how a democracy is supposed to work. On the contrary, it's a classic authoritarian approach to maintaining power and control. The fact that you feel it should be the natural order of things to side with the parties over the people shows that there is something very, very wrong with the way our political system functions, which is exactly what these people are trying to point out.
