Jimmy Kimmel absolutely NAILS Trump in tearful post-election monologue

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” hit the airwaves on Wednesday night with a sharp take on the election, spelling out during host Jimmy Kimmel’s Wednesday monologue all that was lost when Donald Trump was re-elected as president: “It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hard working immigrants who make this country go, for health care, for our climate, for science, for journalism, for justice, for free speech. It was a terrible night for poor people, for the middle class, for seniors who rely on Social Security, for our allies in Ukraine, for NATO and democracy and decency. And it was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him. And guess what? It was a bad night for everyone who voted for him too. You just don’t realize it yet.”

On the flip side, “it was a really good night for Putin and for polio and for lovable billionaires like Elon Musk, and the bros up in Silicon Valley, and all the wriggling brain worms who sold what was left of their souls to bow down to Donald Trump,” he added.

Kimmel noted that the choice for president came down to a prosecutor and a criminal, “and we chose the criminal to be President of the United States. More than half of this country voted for the criminal who is planning to pardon himself for his crimes. I guess this election wasn’t rigged.”

And yet, he noted that Trump had pre-emptively declared that this election was going to be rigged. “Isn’t it remarkable that this time, the fix wasn’t in? Last time the Democrats cheated, this time we chose not to, I guess?” Kimmel said. “I don’t know. Now this Donald Trump, he’s like the Emperor from ‘Star Wars.’ He’s old, he’s evil, and he keeps coming back with no reasonable explanation whatsoever.”

Kimmel had been very vocal in his support of Kamala Harris and in warning viewers against voting for Trump — even airing a special monologue he had crafted for Republican voters to watch. “Be honest, last week, did you guys sent that monologue to a Republican like I asked you?” he quipped.

Kimmel commended Harris for gracefully conceding her loss in the election, something Trump refused to do in 2020. “In America, there’s an election, and then they count the votes, and if the Democrat loses, they call to congratulate the winner,” he said.

“You know what I’m going to say, something that Trump would never say unless it favored him: The people voted, and this is the choice we made,” Kimmel added. “In January. Donald Trump becomes president, and that’s that he won. Doesn’t mean we give up, but it also doesn’t mean we storm the Capitol because we don’t like the result.”

Kimmel said it’s been hard to find any silver lining in what has happened, but he hopes maybe once Trump fails to deliver on his promises, people may finally see through his ways. “We’ve been through this once before, and yes, this time, it is probably going to be worse, maybe a lot worse,” he said. “But I also think that maybe we will look back and realize that in the long run, this is what we needed to wake us up. Maybe the people who care so much about him need to find out how little he cares about them.

Maybe this time, he’ll shock us and actually do some productive things. He won’t, probably, but he could. Or maybe the only good part of all this is he can’t run again in 2028. Maybe next time, the Republicans will nominate an orangutan for President. Why not at least make it fun.”

Kimmel then ended this portion of the monologue by getting a bit personally dark: “My only request to President-elect Trump is that he let me share a prison cell with Taylor Swift. I’m really good at making bracelets, and I think we get along just fine. We’ll see how funny that is in six months, when the great talk show host roundup begins.”

Celebrities have done enough damage.

by Anonymousreply 1November 7, 2024 7:06 AM

TRUMP has done enough damage.

Fixed it for you, R1.

by Anonymousreply 2November 7, 2024 7:09 AM

The last thing this country needs right now are tears from famous sanctimonious narcissists

by Anonymousreply 3November 7, 2024 7:11 AM

Like celebrities or not, what will you say next year when Kimmel, John Oliver, Jon Stewart, Seth Meyers, Jordan Klepper etc. and their shows have all been cancelled due to "low ratings". Jimmy Fallon will of course start sucking Trump dick and become the late night darling.

by Anonymousreply 4November 7, 2024 7:20 AM

The progressive YouTubers who hyperbolically click-baited viewers about Trump’s “ultimate meltdown,” day-after-day, are hemorrhaging subscribers right now.

by Anonymousreply 5November 7, 2024 7:52 AM

Nobody even knows what you’re talking about, R5. But keep stroking yourself.

by Anonymousreply 6November 7, 2024 8:31 AM

R2 No. Democrats have alienated the working class, white people, the “Latinx”, the center, and traded blue collar for blue hair. It’s right there in the exit polls.

There a reason why Trump has won TWICE and it’s not all because a bunch of Nazis want a new Hitler to scoop up the black and queers and put them in camps like the radical left is saying.

Bernie Sanders said it best and if I’m going to get through another 4 years of Trump, I’m going to admit that there is something wrong with the Democratic Party right now.

And the disconnection of left mainstream media and celebrities is a starting point.

by Anonymousreply 7November 7, 2024 1:06 PM

The Right has their own celebrities and those celebrities drive Trump support by stoking fear, pitting groups against each other and peddling lies and conspiracy. In reality, they make as much money as traditional celebrities and they live in the same 'elite' zip codes.

by Anonymousreply 8November 7, 2024 1:33 PM

R7 totally ignores the fact that social media and sites like YouTube removed practically any controls they were using to stop misinformation and some, like Twitter, were actively promoting conservative voices and depressing liberal ones.

The alienation that R7 claims is organic. It’s been aided by billionaire tech company owners.

by Anonymousreply 9November 7, 2024 1:56 PM

I know what R5 is talking about and I unsubscribed from several myself. Just didn’t want the reminder thumbnails clogging up my subscriptions page.

by Anonymousreply 10November 7, 2024 3:00 PM

Same R10. They took a bet that his deranged rantings would be the end of him. In 2016, he was new, untested, saner. Now, they thought, mask off and deranged and slurring he won't hit his usual 47%.

I also unsubscribed because I have no desire to follow the next 4 years.

by Anonymousreply 11November 7, 2024 3:04 PM

David Pakman was freaking out yesterday as he saw more than 5k unsubscribed from his channel. He pleaded with his audience not to give up on independent progressive media and rejoin. Everyone felt misled and are despondent.

Jimmy Kimmel cries on air a lot. He should get his T levels checked

by Anonymousreply 13November 7, 2024 3:14 PM

His T levels are just fine. Let's not suggest that the few men still left on our side are not real men unless they become unemotional Trump bots.

by Anonymousreply 14November 7, 2024 3:19 PM

[quote] [R2] No. Democrats have alienated the working class, white people, the “Latinx”, the center, and traded blue collar for blue hair. It’s right there in the exit polls.

Dems may have alienated them but Trump will impoverish them. All the dummies will realize too late that the Black lady was right when she said Trump doesn't care about them. When we're in a recession, the poor will be destitute, the working class will become poorer and the comfortable middle class will be very uncomfortable. The only people who will thrive are the ones that are already rich.

by Anonymousreply 15November 7, 2024 3:31 PM

Come sit on my face Jimmy... I'll make it all better.

by Anonymousreply 16November 7, 2024 4:05 PM

I want that network fined $10 billion dollars!

by Anonymousreply 17November 7, 2024 4:21 PM

"Democrats have alienated... the “Latinx”

If they'd stayed in their own country they'd be living in a shack with nothing. Gangs roaming the neighborhoods. No hope. No freedom.

Now what is it you were "needing", amigo?

by Anonymousreply 18November 7, 2024 4:28 PM

David Pakman deserves to bleed subscribers. He's the absolute worst with the sensationalistic click-bait titles, claiming Trump is in MELTDOWN MODE!!! every 30 seconds. I've stopped watching his content because of the way he titles his videos. Fuck off with that shit.

by Anonymousreply 19November 7, 2024 4:40 PM

The Democrats have not alienated the poor. Setting aside Clinton, who really did leave the poor behind in an effort to be moderate, the Democrats’ only main problem is that they won’t flat out lie, promising things they know they can’t deliver.

All of the economic promises that a Trump made in his first run were unfulfilled, except for the tax cut for corporations and billionaires.

Harris could have lied and promised to solve all the problems faced by average Americans but she, unlike Trump, formed a plan outlining things she actually believed were possible.

Presidents have very little actual ability to improve the economic realities of households across America but they absolutely have levers which they can pull to temporarily run up markets, which is what Trump will no doubt do. Let’s just hope he doesn’t deliver on other promises made during this run, the ones that don’t have anything to do with grocery prices.

So far a Jimmy Kimmel and his propensity to cry, I can only say that I think this country, and the world, if more men would allow themselves to feel that much empathy and care for their families and others. Everyone has emotions and I have learned from life that they will be expressed, one way or the other. I prefer men who are men enough to have those feelings and express them honestly rather then holding them in only to blow up in a burst of rage and anger.

by Anonymousreply 20November 7, 2024 4:46 PM

It's not about the left "leaving" the poor. Or Latinos. Or anyone.

It's about messaging. The right, ironically enough, has better message deliverers.

They have Rogan, Musk, most gamers for the the male crowd of all ages. This beats any left wing media. This beats Kimmel and Colbert.

They have Fox for the Boomers, Gen X for both sexes.

They have Spanish media for Latinos.

And that's the story. The story is, to put it simply, who can tell the better story to the most people. And that's the right wing.

The hammer home their lies and mischaracterizes over and over and people believe it. Across all the above mentioned platforms.

The Dems do the same things (minus the lies) but we use old school media routes that only a smaller segment part of the population still watches with any habit.

by Anonymousreply 21November 7, 2024 4:56 PM

[quote]Nobody even knows what you’re talking about, [R5]. But keep stroking yourself

You are that “nobody,” R6.

by Anonymousreply 22November 7, 2024 5:01 PM

R21, Kamala went on plenty of podcasts. Trump didn’t do a significantly greater number. Since Biden’s run, the Democrats have sought to engage and give access to “influencers.” While they have Fox we have MSNBC.

I understand your argument but I can’t agree with the conclusions you draw. With similar engagement, unless you have other actual examples of things which the Republicans did that the Democrats didn’t do, I have to continue to believe it’s the message and not the delivery system.

by Anonymousreply 23November 7, 2024 5:36 PM

[quote] David Pakman deserves to bleed subscribers. He's the absolute worst with the sensationalistic click-bait titles, claiming Trump is in MELTDOWN MODE!!! every 30 seconds.

Hold my beer 🍺.

by Anonymousreply 24November 7, 2024 5:53 PM

R23 You have no idea how much the algorithm pushes the right wing drivel at young men. Most of us here are not watching the stuff that makes the algorithm go 'ah, a mark, let's go ham on his feed' Kamala went on Call Her Daddy and Stern and Brene Brown. Basically Dem voters, if they vote. On those shows she didn't lie or make false promises or push hatred or blame some 'other' for problems. So, going on bro podcast would not have helped. She would sound smart and suggest logical plans for them. They would call her an idiot. Trump goes on and says he will abolish income tax, remove every immigrants even legal ones, set the military on protestors, put his enemies in jail, fore every civil servant, bring back coal mining. Sadly, this sells.

We will never beat them by lying too. It doesn't come naturally, our base wouldn't stand for it. We need our own channels that can mix our message with gaming/sports/financial advice/music.

by Anonymousreply 25November 7, 2024 6:11 PM

Keeping with my comment at R20, this is why I was never a fan of Bernie Sanders.

He talks a good talk and I like many of his ideas, but he never has shown an ability to get bills passed, especially considering what seem to be pie-in-the-sky proposals.

by Anonymousreply 26November 7, 2024 6:13 PM

R23 it wasn't about Kamala or Trump going on podcasts.

It's the onslaught of right wingers talking to their audiences of millions EVERY DAY for YEARS decrying the left. Over and over. Rogan does it no matter who is on that episode. Musk litters Twitter with right wing nonsense. This reaches tens of millions of viewers.

Two of my left leaning straight friends listen to Rogan every day. One switched to Trump and one almost did. That's how Trump won. He has better conduits and they aren't really conduits. Which makes them even more powerful.

Going on Howard Stern one time can't stop the tide that was turned years ago.

by Anonymousreply 27November 7, 2024 7:03 PM

Jimmy needs to STFU already.

by Anonymousreply 28November 7, 2024 7:30 PM

R18 68% of Latinos are born in the United States. You certainly wouldn’t say any of this about a first or second generation European American.

Get your head out of your ass. The majority of Latinos are US Americans who were born and raised here. There is no country they go back to they’re from here.

by Anonymousreply 29November 7, 2024 8:28 PM

R9 Are you saying they weren’t using enough censorship?

Trump has been blasted and hated by the media since he walked down the elevator. He is called the modern day Hitler on CNN and MSNBC and that makes headlines everywhere.

He’s reviled and hated.

What suppression are you talking about?

by Anonymousreply 30November 7, 2024 8:34 PM

[quote]There is no country they go back to they’re from here.

Do you think that matters in MAGAworld?

by Anonymousreply 31November 7, 2024 8:39 PM

R15 Right because bringing in as many illegals in as possible will flourish the country and make everyone richer. Massachusetts estimates $1 billion dollars to house migrants in 2025.

And let me ask you, what neighborhoods do you think they’re staying in? The white suburbs? What races will suffer?

by Anonymousreply 32November 7, 2024 8:39 PM

[quote]There a reason why Trump has won TWICE and it’s not all because a bunch of Nazis want a new Hitler to scoop

don't be stupid, the "Working class' were fed lies non-stop for six months, kamala was a communist, biden was a devil, trans kids this, illegals that. ALL lies. they bought it. you balme the democrats for that is insanity

by Anonymousreply 33November 7, 2024 8:45 PM

R30, I clearly said social media companies aren’t policing the content posted to their sites.

If people we only watching Fox or MSNBC we wouldn’t have such severe problems. Even Fox isn’t parroting tropes like the ones that are widely and freely spread on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter:

by Anonymousreply 34November 7, 2024 9:18 PM

Thank goodness Guillermo became a U.S. citizen.

by Anonymousreply 35November 7, 2024 9:23 PM

And on X you're never more than a degree or two (sometimes zero) from someone with a few thousand likes on a post calling for "TND."

by Anonymousreply 36November 7, 2024 9:24 PM

The criminal wins over the prosecutor. Disturbing but true.

by Anonymousreply 37November 7, 2024 9:56 PM

Indeed, R37.

And the majority of Americans decided this.

That's what kind of country we are now.

by Anonymousreply 38November 8, 2024 2:54 AM

Left or Right, I'm tired of any celebrity lecturing us about how we should vote. Nobody ever pulled the lever because a celebrity told them to do so

Jimmy is a narcissistic douche in any context.

by Anonymousreply 39November 8, 2024 3:22 AM

I don't watch his show, but when I recover from this election I will start tuning in

by Anonymousreply 40November 8, 2024 3:35 AM

I like Jimmy Kimmel about as much as Trump. Zero.

by Anonymousreply 41November 8, 2024 3:38 AM

R31 Yeah but 54% of the male Latino vote is not MAGAWorld and you can bet your ass Republicans will be doing the bachata in 2028 to keep their vote.

by Anonymousreply 42November 8, 2024 5:15 AM

I’m sorry I meant the male Latino vote is now MAGAWorld.

by Anonymousreply 43November 8, 2024 5:15 AM

R39 The problem is celebrities aren’t just out of touch, I think they’ve always been out of touch. They just no longer have the platforms and shelter to remain out of touch.

20 years ago they could go on Oprah and the audience would scream and faint at the sight of them and act like they were royalty. Same with the Oscars.

But social media and YouTube happened where the public could actually say wait a minute, these people are idiots!

And that’s where we are.

by Anonymousreply 44November 8, 2024 5:21 AM

Liberals have destroyed Hollywood in the past 20 years.

Conservatives need to take over Hollywood again and reinstall the studio system where celebs are coached how to be stars and give us another Golden Age like they did via the Hays Code (1934-1968).

by Anonymousreply 45November 8, 2024 5:38 AM

I hope Kimmel, Colbert, Stuart, Oliver, Meyers, etc., stick around to help me get through the next 4 years. I think of them as the vocal opposition.

There MUST be a vocal opposition - hell, even if it's Pakman and Tyler Cohen, etc.

Or we'll be Russia with 100% of the media controlled by the Kremlin and Youtube, Instagram, Facebook, etc., abolished. (though I wouldn't miss Facebook but still, does Zuckerberg push rightwingery as much as Musk? I haven't kept up)

by Anonymousreply 46November 8, 2024 6:42 AM

*oops STEWART, not Stuart. My apologies, Jon. And thank you for signing up for another year on air.

by Anonymousreply 47November 8, 2024 6:44 AM

R47 to be fair, his real name is Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz.

by Anonymousreply 48November 8, 2024 7:03 AM

R46 Every mainstream media outlet aside from Fox is left wing. All major millionaire celebrities endorsed Harris.

Anti-Trumpism is everywhere. You’re just mad people aren’t listening to them anymore.

by Anonymousreply 49November 8, 2024 7:06 AM

These late night guys (plus Pakman, etc) say they want rid of Trump, but let's be honest--they make money hand over fist because of him. On some level they've got to be giddy about DJT getting reelected. What would David Pakman possibly talk about if not Trump?

by Anonymousreply 50November 8, 2024 8:00 AM

The Republicans would still be causing chaos - like Mike Johnson or Ted Cruz or whatever creep is au courant - and there would always be somebody.

Did you watch Jimmy with real tears in his eyes?

And I asked my husband if he thought Trump would have Kimmel and Colbert, uh, fall out of a window a la his man crush Vladimir. He said no, but he thought Trump might get on the phone to one of the billionaires that owns these channels and arrange to have them fired.

I mean the Supreme Court gave him immunity for anything, and he's promised to sic the CIA or military on the 'enemies within' like Adam Schiff, Nancy Pelosi, and I bet, like Jimmy said at the beginning of his show, he's bound to be on the enemies list (his skit was him packing up to leave the country.) Maybe that's not just a funny skit but a pretty good plan.

And a lot of Putin's new plans sound like 2025 - gay agenda equals terrorism? jailing protestors and any kind of dissident? How do we know it couldn't happen here?

by Anonymousreply 51November 8, 2024 9:13 AM

[quote]Trump has been blasted and hated by the media since he walked down the elevator. He is called the modern day Hitler on CNN and MSNBC and that makes headlines everywhere.

CNN and MSNBC together reach less than 1.5 million viewers in prime time, on average. The New York Times has 11 million subscribers. Joe Rogan has more followers than all three of them put together ... and more influence with an audience that pays no attention at all to traditional media.

by Anonymousreply 52November 8, 2024 11:54 AM

Trump is a media professional, not a politician or a successful business guy. He owes his success to his long standing relationship with this industry which promotes and protected him.
