Bette Midler deletes her Twitter/ X account in the wake of Trumps election win
by Anonymous | reply 66 | November 14, 2024 5:18 AM |
One of her last posts was about drinking bleach if Trump got elected
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 7, 2024 12:44 AM |
Nancy Lee Grahn is deleting hers too.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 7, 2024 12:44 AM |
r2 eeekk r3 I will have to google that name- is she quite famous in the USA?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 7, 2024 12:47 AM |
R4 Famous in the soap opera fandom - she's on General Hospital but has been on others.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 7, 2024 12:49 AM |
r5 Thank you. She was a Harris supporter I take it?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | November 7, 2024 12:52 AM |
Why did y'all wait so long
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 7, 2024 12:52 AM |
It wasn't R2. Her post was an image showing the inside of a fridge with a bottle of champagne on the left with a post-it note saying "Kamala wins" on it and on the right a bottle of Drano with a post-it note saying "Trump wins".
Here we go:
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 7, 2024 12:53 AM |
Midler is on to something anyway. I don't want to support Musk's MAGA social media platform so I am deleting my account too.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 7, 2024 12:54 AM |
R6. She's a very outspoken progressive.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 7, 2024 12:55 AM |
Well, i did too, so THERE
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 7, 2024 12:55 AM |
R6 Here she is - she did a video in support of Harris, along with some of her costars. Scroll down to see it at the link, if it works.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 7, 2024 12:56 AM |
Toktok is a Maga HQ now, so I deleted it. Instagram gone. People need to delete. Its important now to not have an online presence.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 7, 2024 1:04 AM |
Christina Applegate too.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 7, 2024 1:07 AM |
r13 Many thanks I guess she quit in protest at Musk or cant be arsed with all the MAGA abuse on there
r14 Tiktok too?
r15 I can see that list growing considerable. Twitters best days are behind it
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 7, 2024 1:09 AM |
I’m actually surprised it took them this long. I thought Twitter was dead to liberals a while ago
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 7, 2024 1:10 AM |
r17 Many stayed to 'fight the good fight' and be a counterbalance or alternative but despite Musks faux claims of freedom of speech it seems increasingly futile-especially with his abuse of the alogorhythms
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 7, 2024 1:12 AM |
I noticed a couple guys on Facebook turn their profile pick and banner to just pure black. Maybe that's what's going on too.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 7, 2024 1:14 AM |
r19 Where they both dems? r20 She hasnt quit- yet.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 7, 2024 1:21 AM |
In response to Barbra's post at R20, there are 2 words I can think of: Fuck, and You !
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 7, 2024 1:23 AM |
Yes R15 - Christina Applegate was FURIOUS yesterday telling anyone who voted MAGA to unfollow her so I'm not surprised she deleted her account. It seems a lot of people have kept Twitter for the election and are now in the process of deleting their accounts. I think this will catch on and a mass delete is about to happen. Twitter will turn into a right-wing echo chamber.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 7, 2024 1:24 AM |
Today's a GREAT day to go through and unfriend/unfollow people on social media. Bitches are showing their asses today! I just thinned the herd myself.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 7, 2024 1:24 AM |
r23 And financially weaker as a bonus
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 7, 2024 1:26 AM |
I haven’t deleted it because I follow a bunch of only fans guys there.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 7, 2024 1:26 AM |
Only fans content creator need to find another platform, if they did so, twitter is useless
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 7, 2024 1:28 AM |
r26 I share your pain but i feel its only a matter of time before a social media directory style app of pornstars onlyfans stars only is launched and negates the twitter dependency of many sex workers. I think something called the blowers , which I havent yet been on , might help fulfill this purpose? Not sure.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 7, 2024 1:28 AM |
100% R25. Musk purchased Twitter with the sole intention of destroying it so he's achieved his objective. Any financial losses can be written off so he doesn't care.
I do though and I don't want to be part of his MAGA platform.
I was really shocked by how angry Christina Applegate was yesterday. I was a bit worried about her. I absolutely love her so it was painful to watch. She was angry at people who had voted against women and ushered in further Trump chaos. Fair enough too. I want to delete all my tweets before I delete my account and have found a few free JavaScript options. I'm not paying money to clean up the tweets from paid services.
Now we just need somewhere decent to go and Bluesky or Zuckerberg owned Threads aint it.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 7, 2024 1:35 AM |
That can only improve her incredibly mediocre voice, R2. Sadly, not even a miracle can solve the problem of her hideous face. 😂😂😂
Now, seriously, these people are behaving like children. Nobody has censored them and as important as they believe they are, Trump won't go after them, as they are an excessively large group. Trump has A LOT to prove and everyone will be watching his every move with a magnifying glass, because this time he claims he has learned from his mistakes and will make real changes... Obviously, that won't happen and he's already in talks with that nefarious demon Mike Pompeo, but he will not want to take things too far - at least, not in overtly hostile manner. I'm sure that he will start promoting digital passports and constant surveillance with the excuse of controlling immigration, but Harris also had this plan. Once again, we're talking about a SINGLE PARTY with two branches that play pretend during electoral campaigns, but end up behaving in exactly the same way once they're in power. I'm sure that anyone in the 1%, which includes celebrities, will be just fine. This is merely a stupid tantrum.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 7, 2024 1:35 AM |
r30 Well digital passports wil have the many MAGA who promote New world order conspiracy theories up in arms. He will alienate a big chunk of his voters if he does that.
I love Bettes voice. Wind beneath my wings is such a divinely sung song.
r29 I have currently locked my account and uninstalled the app while I decide what to do. I can only access it now on the home computer. Having it on my mobile and frequently checking it was getting me down and doing my emotional health and blood pressure no good
whats happened to twitter makes me sad and angry. Musk has evil in him in my opinion. Dangerous guy.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | November 7, 2024 1:44 AM |
R30, why should Midler provide free content for Musk? That's what she's doing.
I have an architectural photography website I share and numerous authors I follow for writing workshops but am thinking of calling it a day. The content has turned so toxic and my feed is full of horrible people slagging off other horrible people. The racist and sexist claptrap is unbelievable.
I have been trolling Trumpers the last few days, which has been cathartic, but seriously, it isn't accomplishing anything.
Deleting Twitter or at least locking it for a while is probably just good for her (and my) mental health.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | November 7, 2024 3:18 AM |
Frankly if there was some way to send an electric charge through Twitter that fried off all the blue checkmark's fingernails, I'd be eager to trial-run it.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 7, 2024 3:23 AM |
I just did too. Tbh I was only using twitter to follow some porn stars. I will find them somewhere else.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | November 7, 2024 6:17 AM |
r33 interesting idea!
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 7, 2024 1:13 PM |
[quote]Toktok is a Maga HQ now, so I deleted it. Instagram gone. People need to delete. Its important now to not have an online presence.
I've noticed that liberals tend to despise social media, because they can't control the narrative anymore like they used to when old media was king (TV, radio, print media, etc.)
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 7, 2024 1:27 PM |
R36, I, a liberal, despise social media because it creates echo chambers (on both side) which isolate everyday people m. It also allows for bad actors to easily spread lies and misinformation used to control and deceive people. It foments hate and division.
When I hear someone say that it keeps elites from “controlling the narrative” I know that means it allows lies and propaganda to be widely spread unchecked. No one can truthfully claim that our world is better since social media become omnipresent.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 7, 2024 2:10 PM |
r37 The echo Chambers are dangerously polarising and make politics and life much more vicious.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 7, 2024 6:32 PM |
[quote]Twitter will turn into a right-wing echo chamber.
I'd argue it already is, but even before seeing this post, I'd already decided to at least suspend my account. Since Elon idiotically disconnected all of the third-party apps necessary for navigating Twitter in sensible fashion (e.g. Twitterific, which you could use to solely view posts of people you follow), I've only been following it for occasional updates on real-time events.
But then I figured out that the majority of the journalists & political pundits I follow on Twitter – and at least for me its one-letter name is my personal Voldemort (a term I will NEVER use) – are on Threads and posting most of the same material to both, so I'll be headed there. Perusing Twitter at this point is little more than an exercise in masochism.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 7, 2024 6:40 PM |
r39 Damn Jack Dorsey for selling to Musk.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | November 7, 2024 6:53 PM |
Nobody cares what that old —— does she’s got money and will leave US if she hasn’t already-good riddance. We’ll look for your Obit Bette.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 7, 2024 11:13 PM |
It was the economy, Bette.

Wonderfully said! I miss the elites controlling the narrative, or gatekeepers as some call them. Yes, they had a say in what stories were covered but you could depend on a certain journalistic integrity back in the day.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 7, 2024 11:22 PM |
r41 Did she threaten that?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 8, 2024 8:40 PM |
Poor Bette. So sad about that “accident” she’s going to have in late January.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 8, 2024 8:47 PM |
Interesting how the evangelical right is fine with X have all that porn while blocking the main pornsites
by Anonymous | reply 46 | November 8, 2024 8:48 PM |
r46 And how they are silent about Elon Musk being probably the biggest practiser of having kids via surrogacy on the planet whilst vehemently condeming it elsewhere.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | November 8, 2024 8:50 PM |
I'm not famous, but I deleted my Twitter account the day after the election.
I refuse to be part of a social media platform owned by a fascist pushing fascist propaganda.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 8, 2024 9:32 PM |
Good on you R48. I've done the same thing. It's an absolute cesspool of propaganda and misinformation now. It always has been to a certain extent but now it's 90% of the content. Mush purchased Twitter to destroy it and to restrict the open sharing of political information and discussion and his mission is complete.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | November 8, 2024 9:52 PM |
r49 How long do you give twitter? He claims he wants to make it bigger.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | November 8, 2024 10:16 PM |
Anymore celebrities quit twitter?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | November 10, 2024 9:18 PM |

What a loss not just for Bette but for
future parody biographers
by Anonymous | reply 53 | November 10, 2024 9:36 PM |
Streisand and any other celebrity have a right to speak out against a presidential candidate or the president himself who is a liar, convicted felon, rapist, insurrectionist, etc. Celebrities are Americans with freedom of speech too.
Also, Streisand, Cher, Midler, DeNiro, Springsteen and several others never said they were leaving the country regardless of the outcome.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | November 10, 2024 11:32 PM |
[quote]Also, Streisand, Cher, Midler, DeNiro, Springsteen and several others never said they were leaving the country regardless of the outcome.
I don't really care about this subject because I understand the feelings behind the hyperbole, and I'm not looking for a gotcha moment among fellow Democrats, but this was pretty easy to find regarding Streisand and Cher saying they would leave:
[quote]During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert exactly one year ago, Barbra Streisand told the titular host that she "can't live in" the U.S. should Trump be successful in another bid for the White House. "I will move," she said. "I can't live in this country if that's … if he became president."
[quote]In an October 2023 interview with The Guardian, Cher expressed her horror at the very thought of Trump making a return to the White House. "I almost got an ulcer the last time [Trump was in office]," she told the U.K. newspaper. "If he gets in, who knows? This time I will leave [the country]." While Cher has stated that she will leave the country this time, the star said as Trump ran for office more than eight years ago that she would depart the planet if his bid proved to be successful.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | November 11, 2024 6:56 AM |
I would like to see the administration set up an official program to facilitate celebrities leaving the country.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | November 11, 2024 7:44 AM |
Why? I don’t understand all of the hate towards Bette Midler and Barbra Streisand. At least they aren’t Kevin Sorbo and Scott Baio……I would imagine that Bette Midler deleted her account was she knew that her head would explode following x in the next several weeks. Reading about their plans - it would be hard for her to refrain from snatching up her phone and leaving a smart remark. Trump is a petty guy. He might not go straight for Bette Midler but he could have someone target her daughter’s in laws or make trouble in unsuspecting ways.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | November 11, 2024 7:56 AM |
I'm still nervous that Trump will order some kind of revenge on late night comedians who are skewering him and his crew every night.
I think we might be moving in the direction of Putin's Russia, and you know Vladimir would not allow comedians on their televisions every night to attack him and his regime. He would do something (and now Trump feels immune from punishment by the Supreme Court, why would he hold back?)
by Anonymous | reply 58 | November 11, 2024 8:09 AM |
r58 He certainly admires Putin
by Anonymous | reply 59 | November 12, 2024 1:51 AM |
I can’t help feeling morally superior to those only deleting Twitter NOW rather than when Musk bought it in 2022.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | November 13, 2024 12:19 PM |
It trolled Hillary Clinton after the failed assassination attempt against Nancy Pelosi.
That was when I closed a legacy Twitter account.
Not going back.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | November 13, 2024 12:37 PM |
I don't understand, r61. Isn't trolling Democrats the ultimate purpose of Twitter these days?
by Anonymous | reply 62 | November 13, 2024 12:40 PM |
The Guardian Will Stop Posting on “Toxic Media Platform” X:

R10 I remember when this very outspoken progressive thought it best to leave gay marriage up to the states.
