I'm so ready to go. I'd rather go peacefully than be shot and pushed into a mass grave or gassed in a concentration camp.
I wish euthanasia was legal and easy

Even if the worst happens we always have a choice. Victor Frankl, who was in an actual concentration camp, has it right:

DL would not let me post the quote!
Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.

The future will always be there for those who want its bittersweet challenges.

OP I find your thoughts rather radical. It's only an election result please calm down. You will be fine OP. Breath in 1 2 3 4 hold for 2, breathe out 1 2 3 4.

I know my post seems extreme. But Germany's government just buckled too. I think WWIII is coming.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 6, 2024 11:07 PM |
I think that all the time, OP. I’m not many years away from dying because of “natural causes,” and I’d prefer to miss the pain and just go at a time of my choosing.
As an Oregon resident, I have the option when three doctors have each independently given me no more than 6 months to live, but that sounds like going through significant pain, too.
I won’t be much missed. I have no parents, no siblings, no partner, and the two friends who were in my life the longest have both died. I’m just trying to get emotionally and psychologically ready so I can exit quietly and rapidly when the time comes.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 6, 2024 11:09 PM |
Well, if WW3 happens, a nuke blast is rather quick and it would be inexpensive.

OP you got my vote-best to prepare for the worst. Young fucks on this platform still believe there are magical guardrails that can’t be broken-laughable with the like of Steven Miller-John Mcatee-“Bannon” and all the Trump SS ready to go.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 6, 2024 11:29 PM |
I'm with you, op.
This is not a world I want to live in any more.
All I see is death and destruction coming.
And I don't want to be here for it.

R23 then you should stop watching it.
We are a weak society. Just look at the strength of the Brits through the actual Blitz and compare it to how some have handled the Orange One’s election to a second term.
Come on, folks, we can make it through this.

I'm beginning to think the below study is quite accurate. One could look at the election results as a HUGE fuck you to Black women and absolutely zero of us are talking crazy like this.
Meanwhile, White people are blowing up the suicide hotline and stay having the highest self-deletion rates and we (Black women) have the lowest. It's almost like you all can't handle shit even though the entire goddamn planet has catered to serving your needs and desires as a group. Gay men get a slight pass, yes, but you're still White and male.
Per your own belief system, you have, too, have benefited from White privilege while Black women continued to be the least protected and most hated in society. Now, one measly election result has you contemplating suicide?? Be fucking for real. Get your shit together. Go outside. Touch grass. Feed ducks. Make some hard cider and eat a cinnamon donut. Goddamn.

DataLounge: Dateline 2004. Yet another parade of melodramatic "MARY!"s all proclaiming "we'll be sent to the camps" by the Bush/Cheney regime for gay genocide.
To quote the goddess: SNAP OUT OF IT!

by Anonymous | reply 34 | November 14, 2024 12:39 AM |
You read my mind, R31. I actually used to say something similar to that, although I have not had occasion to say it for years. I told people, "I like to think that if I had been a Jew in Germany, I'd have seen the writing on the wall and gotten the fuck out."
So today I got fingerprinted for my FBI check, and I saw the clean report in my e-mail as soon as I got home. I've sent for my apostille birth certificate. I already received the official pension letter saying my state government pension is [italic]for life[/italic] (a necessary caveat) and I'm waiting for the same letter from Social Security. Just for fun, I got an International Driver's License at AAA (the only place authorized by the State Dept. to issue them) and I'm going to get an updated VA Medical ID card for the same reason. Now it just remains to get a good and hopefully inexpensive attorney (still, with the visa, over 2K) to make sure I have all the necessary papers, go to the Tampa consulate to submit them for approval, and make the plane/hotel reservations. And (of course) find someone to watch my little dog for a few weeks while I get things settled.
It's funny -- people who don't know me say, "Oh, you'll never leave!" just like the folks on DL have been saying to everyone who mentions it for awhile. But the people who really know me know I'm as serious as a heart attack. And people who are truly appalled at what's been happening are now starting to accept the idea, and soothing themselves by telling each other, "Oh, he won't do [bold]this[/bold] -- they'll never let him get away with [bold]that[/bold]," yada yada yada. Bullshit. Read the writing on the wall.
And even if the writing only says "Have a nice day!" I'm not going to chance it. This Army vet is not a loser OR a sucker. Fuck him.

Suicide is painless.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 14, 2024 3:49 AM |
Another vote for Victory Frankl. He survived the concentration camp and lived to reflect and write about it. We can choose to find our peace and happiness amidst this mess. It probably won't even affect us that much. Find a way to live. Don't give up or give in. You are stronger than that.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 14, 2024 3:54 AM |
Please don’t worry and try to be patient-there’s no question the Trump administration will make euthanasia easily accessible for whom ever they see fit to die.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | November 14, 2024 4:09 AM |
OP may be hyperbolic, but those of you who think this will just be a hard four years are in denial. Democracy has ended. We will be ran similar to Russia. Oligarchs. Dissenters imprisoned and murdered. Migrants rounded up and citizens arrested to be used as slave labor. Persecution of others, particularly LGBT. Lockdown on free communication. Mass death due to the dismantling of any public medical assistance. This is going to be worse than most want to admit themselves.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | November 14, 2024 4:24 AM |
Go to the local vet and ask to be put down. You'll get that first shot that puts you to sleep, then the second that stops your heart. I'll never understand why the combo isn't used for euthanasia -- it's not even used for executions.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 14, 2024 4:48 AM |
r40 Sometimes I wonder if people like you actually want this to be the case due to a schadenfreude fetish. It's no longer about hoping the best for the country. You sincerely hope the absolute worst happens so that you can be proven right. It's like people who always complain about being depressed but you sort of get the impression that they like being depressed due to a victim complex. It's a very weird and not particularly pleasant personality type to be around, honestly.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 14, 2024 4:52 AM |
OP I would never want to encourage you in this endeavour but people take their own lives every day - it's not that difficult.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 14, 2024 5:22 AM |
If you have a serious illness or are dependent on your social security income or medicare or medicaid, this is a time for despair and there is no cure. This got lost amid all the talk of trans rights.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 14, 2024 10:26 AM |
R42, and, yet, you resort to ad hominem attacks rather than address any of the points I made. The people propping up Trump have been crystal clear about their intentions and plans. They literally wrote it up and circulated it for review. I don't want any of this to happen but I don't give a shit anymore, either. Sit cozy in your denial, soon enough it will slap you in your face.

Ms. Boots @ R36! Welcome!
I'm going to start a thread on this, since it seems no one has started one yet, and the more information we can pool, the better off we'll all be. I have been hanging on every word of the DL collective wisdom for 20 years, and here's hoping it won't fail me now!
I'll come back and post the link.

I am the OP. Yes, I've calmed down a bit since last week.
But I still stand by the essence of my original statement.
We are entering an era of ugliness and chaos in the world and especially in the US. I am not R40 but I agree that those horrifying actions are all very real possibilities.
I am otherwise grateful to be alive at this very moment, but I wish euthanasia was, as stated in my OP, legal and - if not easy - then easier than it is now.
If I know I'm about to be rounded up and sent to a camp, I want control of that, including an option to escape - no matter how permanent that escape might be.
I am not being so cavalier as to suggest people should choose suicide at the first sign of a life challenge - missing a car payment, or a breakup, whatever. I'm talking about a much uglier pathway ahead.
R41 I've said this several times to friends and family, that putting a pet to sleep is far more humane for pets than the way humans die. They are in a room full of people they love, who hold them as they go to sleep. I wish my passing, however it eventually happens, could be that lovely. But for humans, especially in the US, we almost never talk about death, and when it comes it's usually prolonged and ugly (extended because families think they are doing the right thing, when they're only giving the medical industry complex more money). So few of us have any say in the quality of our deaths.

Is it Sweden that has a euthanasia program we just heard about? If it comes to it I might hike up the Sierras and freeze to death. Or become homeless again. It can be carefree to have no belongings.
