THE PRESS IS DEAD TO ME!!!!
The press did this. NYT, WaPo, WSJ, USA TODAY, CNN, NPR, the big 3, never mind all the right wing propaganda channels.
YOU DID THIS!!!! You disgusting tax cut chasing CUNTS. "Biden's too old, he'd demented, he needs to leave the race." Then crickets for the stroke patient who talks about windmills and penis sizes.
YOU DID THIS!!!! Does of your readership, listenership, viewership, KNOW that the GOP is clear about wanting to INVADE MEXICO? That a war on our border will take place under this regime?
WE saved your asses 8 years ago. WE will not do it again. The American press is conservative biased and pro-Trump and this is the final proof. Democracy has died in the darkness YOU helped cast!!
I will enjoy watching a lot of legacy media go bankrupt over the next decade. Again, liberals won't subscribe and save your trifling asses this time.

OP is right. The media normalized Trump. Basically turned everything in to He said-She said. As though they were just two equal people fighting for an equal place. It wasn't until a few days ago that the NY Times ran a few editorials but that meant nothing. By normalizing Trump for all these years, they made it clear that he and Harris, or Biden, or anyone else, were equals.
The mainstream media is over. Joe Rogan counts for more than the Times or the Post.

"We are already seeing the rationalizing of how we got here and the blaming of the political party that, though flawed, actually reflects multiracial democracy. We must resist this. Voters knew exactly who Trump was and chose him anyway. This is not about the so-called excesses of the left. As the NYT editorial board writes, Trump ran the 'most racist, sexist, and xenophobic campaign in modern history.' As NYT reporter Lisa Lerer wrote today, 'This was a conquering of the nation not by force but with a permission slip. Now, America stands on the precipice of an authoritarian style of governance never before seen in its 248-year history.' This is the unsparing truth that we must confront."

I said it before the election that the media loves Trump's chaos. They normalized his abhorrent behavior. They better enjoy it now, because it won't be long before Trump and his MAGAts turn on them. And when they cry about journalists being intimidated and violations of press freedom, fuck them. You enabled it, now suffer the consequences.

That wasn't enough. On every news platform they had some numbskull Trumper sane-washing his every outrageous action and utterance, and dismissing all the warnings his former inner circle was giving the American people. At the same time, they allowed editorials and commentary legitimizing America's "discontent" and so-called "kitchen table problems" and allowing Biden to be unfairly scapegoated for the natural consequence of a pandemic recovery. They did not remind people how horribly he handled the pandemic and how money was wasted and how people died unnecessarily.

The audience for right-wing social media, blogs and websites dwarfs that of all traditional media combined, and they are told day after day that Trump is a Godly and righteous man who is persecuted by his enemies because he's fighting relentlessly for the American people. That is the only "news" this audience attends to. That's (some of what) we're up against.

Bidenomics caused worldwide inflation?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 9, 2024 4:17 AM
|
I’ll bite, R42.
Worldwide inflation came about post Covid in one way or another. In Europe, it was largely the supply chain shocks plus the impact of Russian gas being cut off with the Ukraine invasion, but prices came back down to what they were before Covid, especially consumer packaged goods.
In the US, the infrastructure act and inflation recovery act (ironically named) flooded the financial market with macroeconomic stimulus, which exacerbated supply chain inflation, especially when the administration took back consumer subsidies at the same time. In addition, US consumer goods multinationals used the pandemic and recovery to embark on a series of pricing tests, how much margin could they add to consumer prices to make up for losses during COVID and more, and what was the consumer breaking point. They went much higher in the US than they did in the rest of the world as US consumers are far more conditioned to be brand loyal at higher prices. But $7 for a box of Special K, or $18 for a Big Mac meal tested that to the limits. Kelloggs and McDonald’s got part of the blame and eventually lost revenue to the point they had to ratchet their margins back down, but they still took 25-40% price increases when all was accounted for. Biden got heat for overflooding the market with stimulus while not doing anything about the inflation at the consumer level, wrongly claiming pay rises would justify the higher prices. The American consumer/voter felt had.
Ridiculous supermarket prices never got as high in Europe and settled back down faster and closer to original prices. And that’s why Bidenomics cost the Democrats 2 1/2 years later…you have to factor the flavor and dynamics of American inflation vis a vis the rest of the world.

Biden achieved plenty in office, as seen by the assessment at r45. He and his people did a piss-poor job of publicizing it and letting people know about it though.
Biden is an older man, used to a certain way of doing things including disseminating information. Times have changed things in this area drastically, not only in the past few decades but just the past few years. He was never able to get his message or achievements out there, so he was defined by his opposition who had a much firmer grasp of New Media and how it works.
If the Dems wise up and figure out how to weaponize this successfully, you may see the tide turn
