Indoctrinating the young will pay dividends for rethugs - apparently, already has if you look at the youth vote this cycle.

Stop pandering to extreme fringe groups within the party. It's time for triage and prioritization. As they tell us on airplanes, put your own oxygen mask on before helping others. We cannot help others as long as rethugs control both houses of Congress, the presidency, and the Supreme Court and federal court system.

I feel you OP. My days of treating people I don't know with any level of extra kindness are over. As of today I will start assuming everyone I see is a right wing scumbag unless I know them to be different. No more holding doors, delaying my car movement so someone can get out of a parking lot into the busy traffic lane, no more smiling at people I don't know, or giving them one second of thought. As far as I'm concerned, as of today you'll have to show me you're a decent person before I'll treat you as one. We live in a failed society and sadly I'm too old to wait for it to change. As for how long - the Democrats need an actual strategy to win back key constituencies in key states. Through most of the 1970s until the early 90s, the Dems had massive majorities in the House (250+ to 170s). In 1978, it was 277 to 158. Of course, the rethugs have dominated most congresses since then, but in 2008 dems had a 256 to 178 majority up from 2006 majority of 233 to 198 in the midterms of Bush's second term that they've squandered.

We need a plan because clearly the rethugs have one.

4. will never be in a same-sex marriage

5. am quite well-off with a secure pension and lots of assets

I don't think I'm going to be terribly affected by this. That doesn't mean I don't loathe and detest Trump, and wouldn't have voted for him even if I agreed with all of his policies. But again--I voted to support others who can't be bothered to vote in their own self-interest. Fuck them.
