I live in Canada and we are awash in right wing disinformation and the far right is growing. We barely get them at bay during elections in our most liberal province. The anti vaxx rallies and anti government sentiment during Covid was massive. Housing here is astronomical and people blame Trudeau’s immigration policies.

We are a few years behind the US but I absolutely feel that we are going in that direction.

It's an undeniable reality people irrationally punish incumbent parties when regular people don't feel the economy is good. And in politics, feelings matter most and you deny them at your peril. So that's going to be hard for the Liberals before you get to Trudeau's irretrievable unpopularity.

But today, I am prepared to vote Liberal again having previously decided just to sit it out because I can't vote Conservative.

There is, I think, a window for Trudeau to go and a new Liberal leader establish him or herself as an alternative to the Conservatives, in the context of what just happened next door. But Trudeau won't go. He is too vain and stubborn. So we're fucked too, just not yet.

Ummm. The US does have a lot of elite universities. We are not quite so outstanding below that level. Many Americans end up intellectually non-functional, like you.
