[quote]The thing to remember about Texas is that a small portion of Texans vote than in any other state. This is an old thing going to back to the day when feudal political bosses along the Rio Grande had absolute control over who votes and who doesn't ... Part of that is because Floridians are older, but mostly it's because in Texas, right-wing politicians have paid people to threaten people into not voting along the Mexican border.
"Feudal political bosses"?? WTF?!? It's not ye olde England, cupcake.
Texas admittedly has far too low voter turnout, but this isn't the explanation for it, and I say that as a native who still lives there. Nobody has been "paying people not to vote" along the border. That's both absurd and readily refuted by the per-county results for most elections. Are you even familiar with Texas? Its only two cities of size near the border, El Paso & Laredo, have barely a million residents combined in a state with 30 million. The border itself has never been a deciding factor, nor was Texas even particularly "right-wing" prior to modern times. The vast majority of counties along the border are huge in land mass but have some of the smallest per-capita populations in the mainland US.
[quote]We are still not seeing the real voice of the people in Texas becasue in a way their political system still operates in the nineteen forties.
It's extremely disturbing that you're doing the EXACT same shit as Trump: spreading bullshit conspiracy theories. In both cases they have at least the veneer of accuracy, but that's what makes them even more pernicious. There are plenty of reasons we're not hearing the real voice of Texas, but again, you're barking up a VERY wrong tree. Texas has by far the largest percentage of undocumented immigrants, and they obviously can't vote. It's had a Republican supermajority for 30 years, and at least until Trump came along, you might be surprised how many Democrats didn't even bother voting since the outcomes were a foregone conclusion.
Further, you've clearly forgotten (if you ever knew in the first place) that it's been less than 20 years since Hispanics were a prime *Republican* demographic in Texas. Bush 43 spoke fluent Spanish FFS! He also explicitly tried to *appeal* to South Texans, not alienate them, and while Trump has clearly conned them yet again, that shit won't work forever. Partisan gerrymandering has been a mainstay of Texas politics for eons, and that deters people from voting as well. The last election in 2022 was the first time since 2000 that I was even ABLE to vote for my candidate of choice in the general: Greg Casar, a far-leftie progressive.
And "the same political system" since the '40s? Seriously? It had 1/5th of its current population, and nearly its entire industry was centered on oil & cattle. Nowadays it's one of the most prominent technology centers on the PLANET. This is absurd as well as insulting.
[quote]So it is not surprising that Pennsylvanians have taken on the cruelty and taste for oligarchy, slavery and human sacrifice that characterized the Aztecs, the Southern US, and other societies founded on corn.
Lemme guess: this is your delusional handiwork as well?
