List everyone to blame for Trump 2.O
Trump ran a bad and weird campaign that turn off even his voters. Harris ran a good one, all things considered.
Trump didn't get himself elected. Harris didn't lose this for herself.
And Vraist Lady Mel stayed out of it.
Who is to fucking blame for this!

It has to be Biden. It was clear he wasn’t up to a second term and should have bowed out to allow a full, competitive primary. Although she ran an admirable campaign, Harris would not have won an open primary because she was too close to an (unfairly deserved) unpopular president.
The Democrats needed to run a governor - someone who couldn’t be blamed for federal issues.

The Dems establishment are to blame. I said it when it Biden finally stepped aside. They needed to run an abbreviated open primary. The winner had to earn it. Instead, it was a coronation. The last time someone truly earned it with the public was Obama. When he upset the status quo, they decided never to never let that happen again, so we’re stuck with the candidates that aren’t really chosen by the base.

How about the Democratic party going so extremist left and making her a fait accompli when she was in no way presidential material. Even people on DL felt she was a saint.
I was endlessly banned on DL for harshly criticizing her like I was some Maga racist. This is the tolerant liberal party? This is what the liberal party has turned into. If you don't agree with the extremist left you're a rightwinger.
And the asshole DLers who if you don't agree with them they say DL has too many right wingers. That is what the intolerant liberals have turned into-a bunch of huge dickheads.
And I even claimed and of course was shouted down that a number of young people of color saw right through her, had her number and knew she was a phony. Liberal whites are so stupid. Especially the white wealthy woke women who started sucking in the men who felt by supporting her they were declaring their support for feminism and anti racism.
I thought people on DL were smarter than this but I had already said I was wrong with all the downvotes I was getting and the constant banning. I expect to be cancelled again for speaking. out. And I voted for her as I said I would because there was no other choice. The Dem Party has turned to shit. And Obama and Biden were hilarious in how they showed their support for her! Half the American people are to blame. There’s no other conclusion. Harris was an excellent campaigner. Only Obama and Bill Clinton were in her league. And in a healthy country even a bumbling idiot would have won over Trump . He ran one of the most pathetic half-hearted campaigns imaginable. The average American got fed up with the constant focus on the "others" that were so harped on by liberal media. They felt that the Dems were ignoring their needs and only responding to the fringe:
1. Trans. The killer was men who identified as women competing in women's sports.
2. Housing the illegals by displacing citizens
3. Seeing all television advertising go 180 degrees to almost exclusively black casts.
4. The elimination of father-son relationships in the media with father-daughter relationships being exclusive
5. The demonization of straight, white citizens as automatically being bigots or racists.
6. DEI. The killer - affirmative action gone awry.
7. The superior attitude of liberals toward the rest of the country - the " flyover" mentality.
It all comes home to roost eventually, and it did in a big way.

As well documented now, there's no one answer but let me add as a group, the Democratic party leadership and power players.
Biden was defenestrated too late. Nobody thought it through, dispassionately. Nobody did a clinical assessment of whether or not any 80+ year old was really the right candidate for president.
If it was me, going forward, the rule will be an automatic primary for any incumbent candidate over 80. Period. Let the party have a say.
Term limits, as a rule or a convention, need to be adopted. Or, again, an automatic primary for any incumbent over 80. We cannot have these dinosaurs roaming the earth, sometimes literally in stages of congnitive decline, with no means to get rid of them. Look at the debacle of Feinstein at the end. This is so weird. There was a primary, and Biden won primary after primary after primary. Yes, the other candidates were nonentities or loons (hey, remember when RFK JR was a Democrat?), but people actually had an opportunity to jump in. They didn't because they saw the party had overwhelming support for Biden at the time.
Same with Hillary. The "establishment" did support her, but the actual primary voters were the ones who insisted again and again and again that they wanted her over Bernie. Bernie tried, but simply failed to get the support to be the nominee. That's how it goes sometimes, the lefty progressive gets rejected by the party base.

If you wish there had been more opportunity to consider other candidates, please direct your anger to Biden. How exactly was this long vetting process supposed to occur? 'Harris was an excellent campaigner.'
I hate to use the term 'word salad' because it is so old and a tired term but she was speaking constantly in circles in banalities. And if any journalist democratic or republican demanded that she answer a question directly she took on a nasty edge. How dare you demand that I answer directly! And that laughter! When nothing was funny. It's nothing but time marking and running out the clock. Personally I found her an attractive charismatic person but she is a political cipher and along with Biden made disastrous decisions where if you had a brain you were thinking what the fuck are they doing?
And why didn't she give a speech today? Either to concede or if she would fight the results. She proved she didn't have the guts.

It was a very poor campaign in the middle and that doomed her. They started out strong, especially “weird” and the snarky rapid response press releases, and outrallying Trump. The stump speeches - hers leaning on her mother (Black men, “what about her black father?”), him leaning on Minnesota nice/coach/teacher - both aged poorly. You were eyerolling by week 3. She did great at the debate. But didn’t capitalize on that momentum, instead letting the media and public stew in cats and dogs without going in for a policy kill.
But then the middle period went anonymous. The policies weren’t sharply branded and packaged. They didn’t keep up the rapid response or humor, and way too much press access control. This is when the poll numbers started softening no matter how bad he was doing. Needed an impact switch up to go with the policy wonkery. And a marked departure from Biden. “Not that I can think of” was fatal.
By the time we got to the closing rallies, if you were already along for the ride you were bored, and I’d you weren’t you weren’t buying, even if they were well-packaged. Then it was all, “we’re not him” and no “what you’ll get”. Finally, skipping Rogan was also a giant mistake. He was sincere about giving you a fair go.
This was a campaign run by set-piece and narrative merchants and no one who understands pulsing impactful moments. When your campaign strategists lose to Barron fucking Trump, you need better strategists.

Other than Biden and Clinton, most of the winning candidates have sounded like they were brain-damaged when they opened their mouths. Are you honestly saying Harris sounded anything like as stupid as the two Bushes, Reagan, and Trump?

Voters didn’t vote FOR Trump. They voted for hate-greed-resentment of their own failures.

[quote] It was a very poor campaign in the middle and that doomed her.
Honestly, I think he was going to win no matter what campaign she ran. He won despite running the most half-hearted, substance-free, disorganized, boring campaign imaginable. It’s not the relative quality of the two campaigns that decided it.

15 million Dems sat their ass at home - that's what happened.

Obama. He told black men not to sit out the election and they didn't, and they largely supported Trump!

Biden (who I love) really should've stepped down after he shepherded us through the pandemic and cleaning up Trump's mess. That was she could've taken over and shown the country she could be a competent leader. And yes, I was in denial about Joe's decline. It was more than obvious at that debate that he was out of it. I don't really fault Kamala-she did the best she could with the hand she was dealt.

When Biden stepped down, democrats should pick a white straight man as the candidate. Trump would still win but it wouldn’t be a landslide like this. Democrats catered to black women voters to pick Kamala (black women are the loudest in tv and show businesses) but lost support from whites and latinos .

Loud, loud black women!!! What can we do?
You forget, she wasn’t black yet when she was chosen.

No, r111, Democrats in a hurry picked the only logical candidate, Biden's Vice President. It is true that picking some white guy out of the blue would have been seen rightly as a huge insult to black people, but it wasn't really a choice to suddenly say, hey, let's try Kamala. She made the most sense at the time.
And there is really no good reason to suppose that any ole white guy would have done better. This was a big repudiation of the Democratic Party in favor of the career criminal grifter. America was in the mood to do stupid shit, and stupid shit was done.

Enough with the "black men voting for Trump" bullshit. It's not true.
Black women AND men overwhelmingly went for Kamala.
Whites and Latins did not.

[quote] Black ... men overwhelmingly went for Kamala.
That kinda misses the point. I don't think that anyone denies the truth of your statement, but the margins DO matter. And if Trump picked off a chunk of Black men, that's not insignificant.

R114 that is exactly what went wrong. Democrats only catered to blacks but Latinos , asians and other minorities don’t support blacks. They all have their own agenda. They’d rather pick a white man than a black woman.

I think it was a mistake for Harris to say that she wouldn't do anything different from what Biden did. It was probably a strategic call, a way to counter criticism that she didn't get any primary votes by implying that she was basically another Biden. Besides attaching herself to someone not terribly popular, it didn't sound very authentic, because, come on, we all have differences from one another.
I do agree that choosing Walz was not the best choice. He gave off too much suburban-dad energy and not enough leadership vibes. I think she should have gone with Beshear, who could at least give tips on how to succeed when surrounded by Republicans.
Although probably not fatal, it may have been a mistake to focus a lot on Liz Cheney. Most people don't get worked up one way or another about her. I'm not sure why the Harris campaign gave the message of "Big news, we're endorsed by Liz Cheney. That's right, Liz Cheney. You did not read that wrong -- LIZ. CHENEY!"

Agree. It was a mistake to hitch her wagon to someone as horrible and loathsome as Liz Cheney and tell voters that Liz or Dick Cheney is someone people should admire.

Disagree Walz was a bad choice. When was the last time a Veep pick got attention like that?
