*OFFICIAL ELECTION THREAD 2024 (PART 4)* SOMEWHERE IN SACRAMENTO

Gavin Newsom just went like this.

by Anonymousreply 497November 7, 2024 1:34 AM

His Secret Service Detail will be Proud Boys.

by Anonymousreply 1November 6, 2024 6:20 AM

Actually, I am glad I live in California now with Gavin. Still a very powerful state with a global economy, supply most of the country with food grown here, most of the tech, lots of energy resources. And Gavin has the balls to fight back.

by Anonymousreply 2November 6, 2024 6:21 AM

Trump is over 5 million votes ahead of Kamala overall.

by Anonymousreply 3November 6, 2024 6:21 AM

Oh, God, aren't things depressing enough without Gain Newsom bridling over us?

by Anonymousreply 4November 6, 2024 6:21 AM

PA being called for Republicans.

by Anonymousreply 5November 6, 2024 6:22 AM

Bernie writing the Dem postmortem as I type. Something about not leaning into socialism hard enough.

by Anonymousreply 6November 6, 2024 6:23 AM

ABC just mentioned him r6. They said he WOULD have been able to get some of those swing states blue. And everyone agreed. They’re all looking at Kamala in disgust practically. David Muir is the one being fair

Mind you, these are Democratic people. Says a lot

Let's try to look at the silver lining. He can't run again after this. Him winning means we deal with him for 4 years and never again.

Really just trying to be positive here, folks. No sense in letting the blood pressure put us in stroke zone. I actually have a migraine and am about to make some Kava Stress relief Yogi tea.

by Anonymousreply 10November 6, 2024 6:25 AM

Teacake, fuck off and get lost.

by Anonymousreply 11November 6, 2024 6:25 AM

Part of the reason Trump won is because people felt Dems were soft on crime. I saw it all over Nextdoor and on Reddit. Allowing people to steal without consequence. They felt Trump would be tougher. We’ve all seen the videos of people pushing carts full of stuff and walking out and nothing happening.,

by Anonymousreply 12November 6, 2024 6:26 AM

Trump has won Pennsylvania and the Presidency.

by Anonymousreply 13November 6, 2024 6:26 AM

There are MANY reasons r12. It’s not one singular reason

by Anonymousreply 14November 6, 2024 6:26 AM

Interesting opinion from Twitter:

"I think the rest of the world just has to realise the US we thought we all knew probably just doesn't exist and hasn't for a while. We need to shift our assumptions and look at the US in the same way we look at India."

Praying for you all from Sydney. I really hope that POS Dump doesn't get this. It's been heartbreaking to watch from over here, have been in shock and disbelief that so many people could support such a low-quality man like him. And a professional criminal to boot! Predator, abuser etc etc It really is fucking unbelievable that there are people that are voting against their own interests. Devastating.

by Anonymousreply 16November 6, 2024 6:27 AM

r12 Yeah, people need to feel safe first before they can hold hands and sing the kumbayah. Story as old as time, but we like to pretend intolerable things are tolerable.

by Anonymousreply 17November 6, 2024 6:28 AM

Mark Cuban has called it for Trump and Elon.

by Anonymousreply 18November 6, 2024 6:28 AM

Whatever fantasy gets you through these dark times I guess r7.

But anyway, for the rest of us, I intend to accept that we are currently living in a crazy country that does not deserve anything but a very sullen acceptance that legally Trump will apparently be the next guy farting around in the Oval Office. I hope nobody is intending to do any unity or any of that shit. I hope nobody is intending to "respect the office" or any of that shit. I hope we are all intending to be as gracious as every Republican has been since Trump came on the scene.

Be bitter. Revel in it. It might actually be kind of fun being the ones who don't give a fuck if the niceties are respected.

by Anonymousreply 19November 6, 2024 6:29 AM

R18 Is Elon VP now?

by Anonymousreply 20November 6, 2024 6:30 AM

I said *part* r14.

by Anonymousreply 21November 6, 2024 6:30 AM

If she only had one more accent she might have won.

by Anonymousreply 22November 6, 2024 6:30 AM

Yes, R15, under Trump the U.S. will no longer want to lead the world and can't be allowed to. The rest of the G7 and the West will keep up the illuion, of course, so as not to wake the baby, but they will have to find discrete workarounds.

by Anonymousreply 23November 6, 2024 6:31 AM

Some are calling Pennsylvania now.

by Anonymousreply 24November 6, 2024 6:31 AM

Can we stop pretending now that Taylor Swift matters?

by Anonymousreply 25November 6, 2024 6:33 AM

David Muir suggests that it be discussed how not picking Shapiro was a mistake.

by Anonymousreply 26November 6, 2024 6:33 AM

Ladies everywhere will be returning their cats to the shelter.

by Anonymousreply 27November 6, 2024 6:33 AM

And Oprah?

by Anonymousreply 28November 6, 2024 6:34 AM

R25 Can we stop pretending that any celebrity matters?

by Anonymousreply 29November 6, 2024 6:34 AM

Bros want their ladies to get a dog.

by Anonymousreply 30November 6, 2024 6:34 AM

Guess Nate Silver's stoned gut was right all along.

by Anonymousreply 31November 6, 2024 6:34 AM

Celebs actually are celebrating right now, big fat tax cut heading their way.

by Anonymousreply 32November 6, 2024 6:35 AM

David Muir's opinion is completely worthless in this matter. I know the media will do its best pretending that there was this or that fucking nonsense choice that could have changed everything, but when the American people are determined to be crazy ass cunts, there is no stopping us, and no reason to second guess various choices.

A cunt's gotta cunt, and that's what happened here, collectively.

by Anonymousreply 33November 6, 2024 6:35 AM

They should have picked Newsom from the get go. Americans have proven that we’re not ready for a woman president.

My paranoia is telling me that TPTB knew that Harris would lose.

by Anonymousreply 34November 6, 2024 6:36 AM

The Hill said The Democrats don’t even realize that their celebrity endorsements and peddling out celebs like crazy actually works against them, not for them. They said someone told Kamala’s people it would backfire but they didn’t listen.

by Anonymousreply 35November 6, 2024 6:36 AM

I think Trump probably would have beat every Dem but Kamala was a bad choice. She was a disaster in 2020 but even this better Kamala never could come up with any new policy ideas. She was the not Trump candidate, that’s it.

by Anonymousreply 36November 6, 2024 6:36 AM

This is far more shocking to me than his win in 2016. So many people just want to watch it all burn. It's a politics of grievance, and it's unfortunately very potent—even more potent than I previously imagined.

by Anonymousreply 37November 6, 2024 6:36 AM

She ran her campaign almost exactly like Hillary did. Right up to the point when she was too cowardly to come out and speak to her supporters.

by Anonymousreply 38November 6, 2024 6:37 AM

r37 It is more shocking than 2016. So many factors went against Hillary. None of that here and he still won. A convicted felon.

by Anonymousreply 39November 6, 2024 6:37 AM

Kamala was a terrible choice. Their fake polls claiming America loved her? Yeah, fake. I called that out. I’m in NYC and even here I know people who don’t like her. Imagine middle America and the south.

by Anonymousreply 40November 6, 2024 6:38 AM

[quote]Part of the reason Trump won is because people felt Dems were soft on crime.

So they elect a convicted criminal to the Presidency. Unbelievable.

by Anonymousreply 41November 6, 2024 6:38 AM

Agreed, R33. I don't think Shapiro would necessarily have made a big difference.

by Anonymousreply 42November 6, 2024 6:38 AM

[quote] So many people just want to watch it all burn.

And I'm wondering if maybe we should join them in that desire. It's actually a little odd to have progressives be the only ones giving a shit about the country's institutions. Maybe we take a break from that for awhile, and let wingnuts either have their way, as the country is determined to do, or watch the whole fucking thing collapse.

by Anonymousreply 43November 6, 2024 6:39 AM

Meh.

Maybe a period of unbridled insanity and fascism, a collapsed global economy, unstoppable climate catastrophe and untold global millions starving in the streets is what we need.

R10, Trump will not leave in four years. He is in for life. And he will live a very long time.

They will hand the throne, which is what it will be, to Jr. Mint. Jr. Mint will be dragged from the White House, his severed cock shoved down his screaming throat, his carcass gutted on the lawn and his head paraded through Georgetown. But I'm not sure that's not too little, too late.

by Anonymousreply 44November 6, 2024 6:39 AM

I’m just entertained at how Dems are shocked a good amount of Gen Z guys voted red when the media even kept warning us of this for a year. And guess what Dems did (including on here), scoff at it. “Oh please!”

Look now.

by Anonymousreply 45November 6, 2024 6:40 AM

He actually managed to pull a Berlusconi, i.e. making a comeback after getting convicted. What a sad little country. Big geographically and economically, but small at heart.

by Anonymousreply 46November 6, 2024 6:40 AM

I feel stunned. Dumbfounded.

I'm going to clean my house tomorrow, a deep clean. Then I'm going to set some personal goals to improve my life.

His last term I became too preoccupied. Every event felt like "This is it! Now he'll be removed" but it never happened. I need to disengage from him for as long as possible.

And you know what? I'm going to hope those Red state mother fuckers get what's coming to them. They're too stupid to vote for their own interests. One of the young women who died in Texas because of abortion bans came from a big pro-life family. The mother was angry that they wouldn't "help the miscarriage along." Well, that there is a gut-wrenching consequence to their own actions. Now her daughter is dead.

They apparently won't learn a thing unless it's slapped upside their head repeatedly.

Let them lose it all.

by Anonymousreply 47November 6, 2024 6:41 AM

There was no reaching them r45. The best anyone could hope is that they wouldn't actually vote, as usual. Apparently they wanted to fuck around and find out, and now I guess they will get their wish. So let it be written, so let it be done.

by Anonymousreply 48November 6, 2024 6:42 AM

Do you think all the Trump threads will wind down now? DL can return to a somewhat normal site? That could be a benefit.

by Anonymousreply 49November 6, 2024 6:42 AM

[quote]Every event felt like "This is it! Now he'll be removed" but it never happened.

Oh god, if I have one wish for DL over the next four years, it's that we don't fall into that same crap again. Makes us sound like QAnon. Except that they actually ended up being right when it comes to Trump returning to office.

by Anonymousreply 50November 6, 2024 6:43 AM

Let's hope that Trump will tank the Republican Party and that 2026 & 2028 will have better results.

by Anonymousreply 51November 6, 2024 6:43 AM

Do you think my doctor would think I was crazy if I asked for Xanax to help me through the next however many years?

I chose to be sober tonight. I thought I should have as muchcontrol over my emotions as possible.

Now I have back spasms, a headache, and a snoring partner. Oh Lord I won't have good news for him when he wakes.

by Anonymousreply 52November 6, 2024 6:43 AM

R48 no one TRIED to get through to them. Young straight guys were feeling alienated and tired of being villainized for simply being straight men, being told they were wrong for not wanting to date trans women or gay men or date outside their race etc.

Also this new trend of women never lie and every man is evil? You didn’t think that would backfire?

by Anonymousreply 53November 6, 2024 6:45 AM

walk it off Mary

by Anonymousreply 54November 6, 2024 6:46 AM

The people who bitch about the electoral college every election can’t even complain about it now. Trump won that too. Largely.

by Anonymousreply 55November 6, 2024 6:46 AM

R49, are you the "oh look. Another Trump thread" cunt?

Asking for a friend.

by Anonymousreply 56November 6, 2024 6:46 AM

Newsom was not the answer if we’re assigning blame to shoplifting, migrants and welfare for asylum seekers. They would have destroyed him on his record in CA. I say this baffled because I’m still trying to square how we lost but I don’t see Gavin or Josh winning this one. Josh may have carried PA but not GA, AZ, NV.

R53 I would bet good money that a living human never told any young man that he had to date a trans person but I would also bet good money that the podcasts they listen to told them that “they” wanted them to.

by Anonymousreply 57November 6, 2024 6:47 AM

Who's that ugly dude who looks like a thumb next to Van Jones?

by Anonymousreply 58November 6, 2024 6:47 AM

R58, do you mean Republican strategist and Trump enabler David Urban?

by Anonymousreply 59November 6, 2024 6:48 AM

Even my dog is freaking out. No one will be able to afford their pets anymore. It’s already costly because corps have bought up independent veterinary offices.

by Anonymousreply 60November 6, 2024 6:49 AM

what message do you possibly imagine would reach any of them r53. If nothing else, can we all stop with this shit about "being heard" and if we just say kind things they will come around. They don't care about our kindness and they don't care about being heard, unless they're being heard saying that fags and dykes and trannies and darkies and all these stupid people should just shut up and go away. That is the douchbro vote you are trying to win.

by Anonymousreply 61November 6, 2024 6:49 AM

whatever...I feel strangely apathetic.

by Anonymousreply 62November 6, 2024 6:50 AM

I play a video game when a young white woman solves mysteries. The criminal is always a straight white male. Every time in 100 different cases. Maybe one time it was an old white woman. never a POC or gay man..I think it’s a law now that straight white guys are to blame for everything.

by Anonymousreply 63November 6, 2024 6:51 AM

How about even acknowledging them? You think the Democrats ever spent time trying to build up straight white guys this year? No. They don’t. They’re more worried about the trans etc.

That’s why they find a home in the Republican Party

by Anonymousreply 64November 6, 2024 6:51 AM

r59 googled the name and yes. Thanks.

by Anonymousreply 65November 6, 2024 6:52 AM

Oh, the poor little straight guys, R63.

My fucking heart bleeds for them.

by Anonymousreply 66November 6, 2024 6:52 AM

I can really believe this.

Well, I guess I can take comfort in that the Trumptards will be amongst the first to suffer hardships.

Goodbye, help with student loans. Goodbye, overtime pay. Goodbye, OSHA. Goodbye, FEMA disaster help.

Goodbye, ACA. Hello, pre-existing conditions.

Hello, higher prices due to Trump Tariffs.

And hello, more deaths from zero women's Healthcare.

by Anonymousreply 67November 6, 2024 6:53 AM

ABC just said A LOT of young people voted for Trump and diverse too.

by Anonymousreply 68November 6, 2024 6:54 AM

R60, it's OK. They're eating the dogs. They're eating the cats.

by Anonymousreply 69November 6, 2024 6:54 AM

R67: That's supposed to be "I can HARDLY believe this."

by Anonymousreply 70November 6, 2024 6:54 AM

What must the Bidens be thinking?

by Anonymousreply 71November 6, 2024 6:54 AM

Joe Biden must be rolling over in his grave.

by Anonymousreply 72November 6, 2024 6:55 AM

R63, the problem is that straight white guys *are* responsible for most of the violence, war, persecution and oppression throughout history. They are the ones who have held the power. So while we shouldn't demonize *all* straight white guys, the reality is that history shows they have caused enormous damage to our world.

by Anonymousreply 73November 6, 2024 6:55 AM

I dread going to bed because tomorrow we wake up and it's real. It's on.

by Anonymousreply 74November 6, 2024 6:55 AM

[quote]I’m just entertained at how Dems are shocked a good amount of Gen Z guys voted red when the media even kept warning us of this for a year.

Democrats targeted women and gamma males and have for a while. The Republican saw that alpha and beta males were a prime opportunity for a pickup and they went for it. It was easy sell considering how antagonistic the Democratic Party is to manly men.

by Anonymousreply 75November 6, 2024 6:55 AM

Of fuck, is ABC going to do another huge round of visits to diners to prove that everybody is really just so gosh-darned eager to join together if only those evil Democrats would let them? Jesus fucking christ on a fucking cracker.

by Anonymousreply 76November 6, 2024 6:56 AM

I’m going to be up all night. No way can I sleep.

by Anonymousreply 77November 6, 2024 6:56 AM

I hope the Bidenists understand something

Harris ran the best campaign she could given the enormous disadvantage she was presented with.

That being said,

My thinking was the fact that she put herself forward showed Harris’s political instincts trailed her ego. She was not a good vice president, a trainwreck in many respects, and I believe that if she was indeed invested in preventing a Trump presidency she would have taken herself out of consideration when Biden stepped down. It should have been a white man because her sex and color would always be a handicap.

When she was endorsed by Biden and given the clear path to the nomination, I said that she would not win. I gradually saw her talent and contributed, and even believed that she would win. But my original political instincts were apparently better than hers.

There is only one villain here. It is Joe Biden. He is just as sick, corrupt and power-crazed as Trump. Biden misled Democrats into thinking he would be a one-termer, he did not sic Justice on Trump, he appointed a vagina of an Attorney General and he did not step down even though it was obvious as far back as the midterms that he would likely not win.

The fact the Democrats could not see the damage he was doing to the party suggests that maybe we do deserve this loss. I was accused of being a Cassandra but people forgot that Cassandra was actually telling the truth about the Greeks in the horse.

If you supported Biden’s re-election, and yelled and insulted people who warned you otherwise, called them Boris or posted fucking Lucille Bluth gifs, we are here because of you. The party is truly broken if we couldn’t call a senile old fool a senile old fool.

Newsom ‘28

by Anonymousreply 78November 6, 2024 6:56 AM

R12 that’s the police not doing their jobs

by Anonymousreply 79November 6, 2024 6:56 AM

No, r64. It's that those weak, insecure men are misogynists.

by Anonymousreply 80November 6, 2024 6:56 AM

So many white working class union guys voted for Trump. I hope he crushes them.

by Anonymousreply 81November 6, 2024 6:56 AM

It's been kind of surprising to me that the media seems so blase about Trump winning. Maybe his craziness has been normalized. It's something I have thought about, and I am not going to obsess over what he does in the presidency. He's going to be chaotic with all the usual infighting, just like the campaign that he just ran and for some reason won, even though he ended so poorly. His voters are really ignorant. Kamala actually offered solutions for the middle class, when he has none. I am just going to tune him out and hope he doesn't lead us into WW3. Someone said tonight that America is no longer special, and that's completely the truth. The country just elected a mentally unfit person - good luck with that.

by Anonymousreply 82November 6, 2024 6:58 AM

Reach out to men or face future losses, Dems. you decide. Identity politics has failed.

by Anonymousreply 83November 6, 2024 6:59 AM

R78, you lost me at Gavin Newsom. Slick, smug, Californian, a liberal elitist whose real world experience stops at French Laundry. Yeah, yeah, he's hot. If you don't like the vibe tonight, you won't like election night with Gavin Newsom for President.

by Anonymousreply 84November 6, 2024 6:59 AM

Now Kamala will be fwee to explore new opportunities.

by Anonymousreply 85November 6, 2024 6:59 AM

Is Gavin upset by leaks?

by Anonymousreply 86November 6, 2024 7:00 AM

R78 well said, dunno if I got labeled a troll since I can’t see my thread replies. I was one of the first to see that Harris was underperforming and seeing the writing on the wall earlier tonight.

by Anonymousreply 87November 6, 2024 7:01 AM

R66 I really feel bad for them. I think they should go back to running the world. Here, take my right to vote back! Please!

by Anonymousreply 88November 6, 2024 7:01 AM

I was just on TikTok and saw someone on live having a meltdown

by Anonymousreply 89November 6, 2024 7:02 AM

Her political instructs weren’t so bad. She raised more money than any candidate - ever. She never had an empty seat at a rally. Her favorability in the exit poll was higher than Trump but she still lost. I now believe that Biden won because Covid was still raging. I don’t think that any straight white man would have beaten him tonight. He has the county under a massive spell that nobody can explain. Even his own supporters cannot name a single policy issue and people who don’t even like him are voting for him!

by Anonymousreply 90November 6, 2024 7:02 AM

Fuck right off with that alpha/beta crap, incel R75

by Anonymousreply 91November 6, 2024 7:02 AM

I hope this means we won't have to watch any more democrats drooling of the war criminals in the Cheney family. I hope to never hear from Liz again.

by Anonymousreply 92November 6, 2024 7:03 AM

[quote] Maybe his craziness has been normalized.

Maybe? It's been sanctified and celebrated as a positive boon to the country. That is the story that everyone wants to sell now. That it is perfectly normal to vote for this crazy cunt and it's 100% the fault of Democrats for not, well, not sure exactly, but never in any way whatsoever the fault of the Trump cult or the media or the fuckers who voted for Trump for making a truly crazy choice for president.

by Anonymousreply 93November 6, 2024 7:04 AM

R78 you say Kamala should have self-eliminated herself from the race because her sex and race, and call the AG a “vagina”? Gee, I wonder if misogyny could at all play a role here? No, it must be the Democrat messaging that is wrong

by Anonymousreply 94November 6, 2024 7:05 AM

When the Trumptards started wearing T-shirts that said "Real Men Wear Diapers," one knew they would call ANYTHING Trump said or did "manly."

Sexual assault is "manly." Free school lunch programs are "sissy." Acceding to Putin in Ukraine and dissing NATO is "manly." Helping Ukraine remain independent is "weak." Adultery with a porn actress is "masculine." Advisor to a school LGBTQ group is, well, come on now.

I actually said to my friend back when, that I didn't like that Kamala picked a guy named "Tim." Tim Kaine, anyone? Even SNL figured it out.

by Anonymousreply 95November 6, 2024 7:07 AM

Can you all now stop referring to the American President as “The Leader of the Free World”?

by Anonymousreply 96November 6, 2024 7:07 AM

No r79. They have to follow the law, and if stealing is under a certain dollar amount ($1000) they can’t do a damn thing. People were pissed at the progressive law that targeted minorities. The minorities took advantage of it.

I wonder how many Russians will move here. The oligarchs who are still alive must be happy.

I'm just resigned that we've entered a new era. The United States will continue on, but it's no longer the country we thought it was supposed to be. I don't know what it will become, but I hope the ones who chose this path suffer the most.

by Anonymousreply 103November 6, 2024 7:12 AM

by Anonymousreply 106November 6, 2024 7:14 AM

R83, What would you suggest, by "reaching out"?

What rights of men have been threatened or removed?

What happened or was instituted 2016-2020 to help men? Lack of Covid help? More manufacturing jobs? Reductions in their student loan burdens?

TRUMP DID NOTHING TO APPEAL TO YOUR DEMOGRAPHIC.....except to speak of, treat, and regard women as things to denigrate, grab, deny, use, insult, and harm.

I guess you want the DNC to work on repealing women's right to vote.

by Anonymousreply 107November 6, 2024 7:14 AM

The spell Trump has the country under is that he has revealed like toto that our sacred republic is smoke and mirrors. He is a charlatan but his transparent charlatanness is somewhat less offensive to people when they see a longtime politician like Biden or a hype-creation like Harris say they are going to fix problems no one can fix because the government is so dysfunctional.

There are some good things that could come out of this.

A) Harris was unlikely to be an effective president, would have entered the presidency unable to pass meaningful legislation and would almost certainly have lost in four years, with the potential of DeSantis replacing her. DeSantis needed Trump to lose tonight so he could save the party.

B) Trump is so far gone he will almost certainly not fill out his term. I believe it will come from inside. Loose step on Air Force One if you get my drift. We will certainly have President Vance. Vance will never win a national election.

C) The chaos and dysfunction Trump will unleash means we will likely win the next midterms.

D) The power of the Congressional Black Caucus has been dismantled.

What do you want the new manly man policy to be, other than fuck everybody over that isn't a straight white male? Is it economics? What economic policy do you think the Republicans are going to implement that will make white working class men better off in any practical way?

There is only one person to blame and it is Joe Biden. Biden got Trump reelected by being a bad President.

Joe Biden is in my opinion, a more wicked and shameful person than Donald Trump.

There is only one redeeming thing Biden could do now but he will never do it because at his core he is just as big a pussy as Trump accused him of being.

No more compassion politics for Latinos. I have always been saying here, stop bringing and supporting people from Latin American countries under communism and left wing dictatorships such as Cubans, Venezuelans and Nicaraguans. Guess what? That was the first thing that Biden did, he created a parole program in which thousands of these people were entering the country, just about any one could sponsor anybody from these countries. People brought all families members from Cuba and these people are not grateful and thankful by culture. I’m Cuban myself, with the solace that I do not have one drop of Cuban blood in my veins. My Galician grandmother used to hate Cubans and said that los cubanos son como los gatos, cierran los ojos para no agradecer ( Cubans are like cats, they close their eyes so they don’t have to say thank you).

Contact the most racist and anti inmigrant maga politicians , and demand the elimination of the Cuban adjustment act. This is the democrat law that has given the Cubans the feeling that they are entitled to be in the US.

Do not try to stop mass deportation. Let Trump do it , accept it and enjoy the show. Do not feel compassion when you see them crying or lamenting that they are been discriminated because of their skin color.

The US has fallen, the BRICS will become more powerful now under Trump.

Men are the ones that will suffer the most, especially straights. They always do. Now they will have no jobs protections, they will be easily fired from there jobs if they have poor heath, they won’t have paternity leave etc. everything that they took for granted will disappear.

These people are not voting their class interest because it is not being treated as a priority

It is Harris who kept saying, middle class, middle class, middle class

The middle class makes over 100 annually now

They are not in trouble. Middle management isn’t going to be replaced by automation.

The working class defected because they do not see an improving nation and the nation is not improving for them because it cannot. That is late stage capitalism. It will destroy the world as we know it.

But you could see the societal fabric falling apart. This isn’t the exception; it’s the norm. America is a failing state with an easily led underclass, the product of 40 years of social deengineering. I’m a dual citizen now, but I’ll drop it to one when they cancel my Social Security. R214 - totally agree but an awful lot of the populace of those states also believe that climate change is a hoax. The US is the planet's largest polluter and emitter of carbon after China. Neither country gives a flying fuck about the planet or anyone else on it. Despicable.

When the US pulls out of the climate accord again - the rest of the world will eventually give up as there's no point. It's very depressing.

Deport the Mexicans! Tax the Chinese! Read the Bible in public schools! Kill shoplifters! Stop helping Ukraine!

Get rid of regulations on companies and corporations! If I want my 12-year-old to work in a mine or a chicken processing plant, that's my parental right!

R234, Trump has never explained to where he plans to deport. What if Mexico and Central America refuse to "repatriate"? Drop people out of helicopters?

by Anonymousreply 241November 6, 2024 10:29 AM

One of his sycophant advisors said they would round up the illegals to deport them. In the case of parents having children born in the US, they wouldn’t split of families, oh never that, they would deport the kids along with the parents. Kids who are US citizens. So expect birthright citizenship to be overturned. That’s the 14th amendment.

by Anonymousreply 242November 6, 2024 10:36 AM

I saw the interview with that guy R242. Was it on 60 minutes? Very unpleasant man.

by Anonymousreply 243November 6, 2024 10:40 AM

by Anonymousreply 244November 6, 2024 10:46 AM

Those of you postulating about the next USA Presidential Election are showing possibly misguided prescience - what makes you think that there will be an American Presidential election in 2027? Your President-elect is on record about being a dictator from Day One and there being no need for anybody to vote after that day.

Did you think that he was joking?

I'm still in shock that Trump won ALL SEVEN battleground states (Michigan will soon be called for him) and the popular vote, and we're about to lose the House again as well.

Nancy Pelosi was wrong about that last one, declaring Dems will win the House like it's a fact. She was rarely wrong over the course of her career. But then, she went out of her lane and that was unwise. She's a pro at counting Congressional legislators' votes. Trying to count US citizens' votes, that's an entirely different animal.

by Anonymousreply 253November 6, 2024 11:07 AM

R199, I remain stupefied by your stupidity.

If the entire governmental system here is hopeless, what would a vote for a former PRESIDENT OF THE "SYSTEM" do to change the Status Quo, in your brilliant analysis? Or do you think Trump is an "outsider"?

Do you think Biden invented the Republic?

What, pray tell, "pressing needs of the people" do you suppose Trump will address, given that if they are still "pressing" he apparently failed to address them in his first Administration?

You DO remember THE BIG PRESSING NEED Trump spectacularly failed at addressing to the tune of a million deaths, right? 😷💉

Lastly, there was a Democratic National Convention that nominated Kamala Harris, not an anointment by President Biden. Perhaps you slept through it.

Lets be real, had it not been for COVID, Trump would've won in 2020. Over the next few days and weeks the media will talk about how it ultimately was the economy that was the motivating factor, or that Harris was a poor candidate. Fuck that, the reality is America is fundamentally racist, misogynistic, homophobic, garbage heap full of the dumbest, most self-absorbed, insulated idiots in the western world.

by Anonymousreply 263November 6, 2024 1:12 PM

If Trump had won in 2020 he would have been saddled with inflation and we’d be celebrating a Democratic blow out right now.

by Anonymousreply 264November 6, 2024 1:19 PM

R185 The “Other” voted for Trump. Immigrants, Gay, Middle class people voted for Trump. Enough with pointing fingers outside the Democratic party. We lost. Enough with the belief that Trump voters are all racist bigots, it’s not true and it’s not helping us understand what happened.

The Dems need to look INWARDS. Enough with the morality superiority. It doesn’t work with young voters and they’ve been telling us. They despise this type of approach and we need to listen to them.

Enough with letting the extremists of the left be the loudest group. We need to forge a middle ground. We need to listen to the little girls in elementary school who said they are uncomfortable with gender neutral bathrooms. It is not transphobic or any kind of PHOBIC to have an opposing opinion.

The Dems need to wake up. It’s very easy for a conservative party to win votes when things are never addressed within the party. People are comfortable with electing an illiterate convict. That’s how much they do NOT trust the Democratic leadership.

This isn’t the end but let’s wake the fuck up. I will pray for my American friends today.

by Anonymousreply 265November 6, 2024 1:19 PM

We can play the blame game all we want, the Dems should've done this or that, BUT that's just the easy road. The problem is America itself. The fact that so many people still voted from Dump despite all the very obvious warnings ... the foundation of this country has completely rotted.

Trump really did well in NJ and NY. He won Passaic Country which has a huge Hispanic population. If a corporate Repub type ran for Mayor of NYC they would win. I predict a Republican will be the next Governor of NY Every time used to predict that, I’d be labeled a MAGA. It’s just reality.

Adams was smart to hedge his bets and speak well of Trump. I smell a pardon in his future.

by Anonymousreply 270November 6, 2024 1:34 PM

..Passaic County..

by Anonymousreply 271November 6, 2024 1:36 PM

R265 You’re not American so you may not understand the bind that Dems are in. Though I agree that they must look inward. She did run right. It didn’t work. She never mentioned gender, trans, race. Never insulted his supports. Walked back any remotely left list position. Campaigned with Republicans. The only thing she didn’t do was try to scare the shit of people by saying “you’re son will go to school in the morning and come home as a little girl at 4pm” And if she had, she would have sounded deranged. Trump gets away with it.

Americans say they want leftist economic positions. When they are shown two options without candidate names, they pick Dems every time. She ran on several of those issues that do very well in blind polls. Didn’t work. She loses the base if she becomes a standard bootstraps Republican. Make up shit like Trump did with 400% tarriffs? Again she’d be crucified for that and called a moron as would any Dem.

We’ll have to find a way forward but we cannot beat them at their own game because we are held to a higher standard. Track left - communist. Track right - wishy washy with no core beliefs, a Republican lite, base gone, cannot win a primary. Go crazy populist - deranged lib.

by Anonymousreply 272November 6, 2024 1:38 PM

It looks like Clallam County in Washington may lose its bellwether status as Harris is ahead there. However, Vigo County in Indiana resumed its status, picking Trump.

by Anonymousreply 273November 6, 2024 1:41 PM

I woke up thinking that a second debate may have helped her. Then I looked at that map showing how red the whole country moved and I changed my mind. People just decided to punish Biden/Harris for everything that pissed them off even though many of those things are made up and many more are problems as old as time. I’d be even more upset if this competent woman wiped the floor with him in two or three debates and still lost.

I also feel for Joe Biden. He was very good domestically. His economy is the best in the world. He avoided recession when the economists were 90% certain that we’d have one. He walked the picked line. He saved union pensions. He passed the chips act. He brought back manufacturing jobs. He forgave student debt for a lot of low income people. He didn’t deserve a massive “fuck you” red wave. Trump did in 2020. But alas.

by Anonymousreply 274November 6, 2024 1:43 PM

The Dena need some serious realignment work. They abaondoned the interests of the working class with Clinton and that has continued nonstop since. Working class Americans have seen their real incomes decline for decades while wealth has continued to concentrate in the hands of the few. Dems talked about college loan forgiveness, but ignored trade school and apprenticeships as equal concerns. Dems cozied up to the financial industry. They focused on cultural identify politics. A large swath of Americans, first white and now more Latino and Black working class members, have felt ignored. They stupidly believe that Trump and Republicans are going to represent them, but I think it is as much a reaction against Dems and no other option but the Repubs. Time for some serious rethinking for all.

by Anonymousreply 275November 6, 2024 1:44 PM

Have Dems ever considered like… finding someone who just runs their mouth off and seeing how far it goes?

Maybe Cardi B?

by Anonymousreply 276November 6, 2024 1:45 PM

Biden did an excellent job with the economy (ironic that inflation is what tanked him). It will be interesting to see how history views his term, now that Trump has been returned partly through his failure to stand aside.

by Anonymousreply 277November 6, 2024 1:45 PM

Well, I'm wearing total black today, as it reflects my mood. Unfortunately, I know that some of the people I work with are Republicans, so I'll just try to avoid them today. I've made no secret to them that I was waiting until the election to make decisions about retirement, so it looks like I'm stuck working for the rest of my life, as I'm too young for Medicare (I'll be 63 next month), I'll need my employer's health insurance as Obamacare is probably toast, and Medicare may not even be an option anymore.

Question is: do I apply for Social Security NOW and collect what I can before it gets dismantled?

by Anonymousreply 278November 6, 2024 1:46 PM

It's not Transgenders per se. It's the seeming overwhelming naturex of Transgender men in women's and girls heretofore own zones, be they bathrooms or ballfields.

It's not immigrants per se. It's the seeming overwhelming nature of mass influxes of migrants into small cities and towns, bringing their own cultural behaviors and norms.

It's not petty shoplifting per se. It's the seeming overwhelming nature of marauding gangs of thieves with impunity.

It's not inflation per se. It's the seeming overwhelming nature of the unaffordability of basics.

It's not women per se. It's to too many men the seeming overwhelming nature of assertive women. Barbies with barbs, not babies.

Ultimately I don’t think any man could have defeated Trump. He has conditioned the country to believe his insults that Democrats are weak and we can’t have more of the same. Even though the economy is better they convinced voters that the country was on the right track. They overlooked all his negatives because they believe he is strong. Once he starts doing unpopular things, they will regret voting for him.

by Anonymousreply 283November 6, 2024 1:56 PM

by Anonymousreply 290November 6, 2024 2:03 PM

R281, As a recipient of SS, I most certainly do have a clue. That's why I waited.

The questioner can at least wait to see if any bill or proposal is likely to "dismantle" Social Security. I know ALL the arguments pro and con. It's going bankrupt. No, it isn't. The limit should be raised. The budget must take priority. Yada, yada.

It is the 3rd Rail of politics that even nutty Republicans will think twice about touching. Their voters are for sure nasty and brutish, but they will know when the checks stop.

by Anonymousreply 294November 6, 2024 2:09 PM

I’ve never seen a Trump voter have an intelligent discussion online about policy. It’s always a version of “cry harder lib” It’s hard to appeal to people who don’t really have any core convictions other than to “own” the other side. And for young men it is crap like Barbie sucked or video game characters don’t have big tits anymore. Grievance politics.

They’re all clearly disgruntled and unhappy but they can’t articulate what exactly they want and Trump has done nothing for them. It’s a feeling I think, of sticking it to someone even though their own ticket is the one with the trust fund baby and the elite law school graduate.

by Anonymousreply 295November 6, 2024 2:09 PM

[quote] They’re all clearly disgruntled and unhappy but they can’t articulate what exactly they want

The accusation is usually that they articulate exactly what they want but that it’s too simplistic, like build the wall and deport the illegal aliens. It’s unusual to claim that they can’t articulate exactly what they want when they do in fact articulate exactly what they want.

I live in a town of 10,000. There were Harris signs all over the place this year when last time it was all Trump signs. We were not the only place that was like that.

I know many of you don't believe in psychics but everyone of them said Harris would win. Psychics are never correct all of the time but they are never wrong all of the time either.

This has been very much a case of the slightly lesser of two dismal evils.

Trump oversaw the military coup in Bolivia, the white coup in Brazil, the escalation of Venezuela's embargo and the Juan Guaidó debacle, initiated a trade war with China and imposed sanctions on Nordstream, setting the scene for Biden's sabotage. He also played an instrumental role in financing the Ukrainian government as they were waging war against people in the Donbas, for which Mitch McConnell personally thanked him, and was close to the incredibly evil John Bolton, Mike Pompeo and Liz Cheney, even if they now pretend to hate each other. In addition, he continued occupying Syria, brought the world closer to war with Iran by murdering Suleimani in Iraq and oversaw the largest upward transfer of wealth in history during the COVID disaster. Furthermore, let's not forget that he also lowered taxes for corporations and high income earners, which artificially inflated Wall Street's performance indicators. He IS the establishment and they just dislike him because he is crude and rude, and managed to best the even more horrible Hillary Clinton. That is it.

Harris is just a Clinton cabal puppet, and would have brought us to war much faster than Trump will ever do. She also has a much more radical totalitarian view of society and is much happier to accelerate the repression and censorship wave that has taken over the internet since 2020. She is a creation of the neoliberal donor class and people detest her because she cannot hide the fact that she is a major cog in the corrupt political machinery that has ruined both the US and the world. She's lost because she is so horrible that even a shameless prestidigitator like Trump can manage to look great by comparison.

This is a disastrous situation and we ought to be terrified of how detestable they both are, as well as the vultures that surround them and are salivating at the prospect of destroying the world for profit.

We've moved into an era where political policies (Trump has NONE) and leanings don't matter much. The Economy wasn't that bad - it's about presentation, how a candidate appears and makes one feel. Yes Harris made a lot of left-leaning people feel happy and good, but unfortunately there were more voters out there who felt that Trump made them somehow feel safer, was a better "leader" (read: better blowhard), would "get things done". This is the new reality and one the Dems MUST confront in the next election cycle. Appearances and vibes.

Biden was able to summon this back in 2020, and eke out a victory over Trump. Voters felt safer with him, felt he could handle COVID better and run the show, given his experience and - let's face it - comforting white Uncle Joe stance.

by Anonymousreply 332November 6, 2024 4:19 PM

The Lincoln Project did a good job of getting the word out there, it wasn't just their video production. Rick Wilson ran a great video podcast series and substack as well, I appreciated his inside knowledge and nasty turn of phrase when talking about Trump and MAGA. He and the other founders - all former moderate Republican operatives - will be around to analyze the goings on and keep up the fight. They despise Trump.

I did it when Trump was in office and you should have seen their faces turn to stone. Never an answer either.

by Anonymousreply 336November 6, 2024 4:34 PM

So the whole rollercoaster was for nothing. The panic after the first debate, the relief when Biden finally stepped down, the glimmer of hope when Kamala starting rising in the polls... all of it came to nothing in the end. Jesus Christ.

I'm not a big fan of playing the gender card, but when people say they want their president to be a "leader" who "gets things done" and "keeps us safe," isn't that mostly just code for "a man" (more specifically, a hypermasculine man)? "Uncle Joe" was able to defeat Trump, but two women weren't.

Harris underperformed expectations and poll numbers everywhere. State polls everywhere were way off base. Selzer's Iowa poll was off by 16 points. How can that be? Maybe it's because the expectations and polls were largely modeled after 2020, when a man was running. Maybe it was inevitable that a woman would underperform. Gretchen Whitmer might have faced the same fate.

I'm reading that Harris severely underperformed in a lot of college towns. I think female college students are willing to vote for a man, but many of the male college bros wouldn't be caught dead voting for a woman.

by Anonymousreply 338November 6, 2024 4:38 PM

It was a wild ride r337. What else should have happened? A brokered convention, as favored by Nancy and Obama, might have produced a stronger ticket, but it possibly would have torn the Dems apart. At least there was unity under Harris/Walz. There just wasn't time.

[quote]Inflation was by far the largest single source of Biden’s unpopularity. Its effects drove governing parties in other countries 20 or 30 points below water. It would have been difficult for any sitting president to defy the pattern of anti-incumbent rage.

That's why Democrats lost: inflation. Incumbent politicians all over the world are in deep water because of inflation. Yes, many people voted for Trump because of bigotry, but it was not the deciding factor.

Trump's economic policies will only make inflation worse over the next 4 years. Dems will make headway in 2026 and 28 because of it.

And unfortunately I feel this outcome puts paid to Pete Buttigieg's political hopes. He will never be a leading candidate for POTUS. The country is just not willing to vote for a woman or an openly gay male for the highest office.

There are examples in history - Trump’s, ours, the world’s - that suggest we will suffer, but not be destroyed. And there are examples where this could be a total disaster.

We had no idea what was coming in 2017. It’s ok to collect ourselves before we choose what we are going to do.

Perhaps this is the kickoff of a multi-party US & the need for coalition governments. Leftists may form a labor-focused party, while liberals join up with neoliberals to form a purple corporatist party against a smaller far-right conservative party. Greens would still be around, but would be forced to ally. I don't know if/how this would be better than what we have now, but it's interesting to envision changes to the political system at this point. Though, I don't even know if humans can like each other any more.

by Anonymousreply 352November 6, 2024 5:07 PM

at r345: Democrats and others are going to get into a recursive and pointless loop about what went wrong. Yes, Trump killed immigration reform, and his voters do know it. But they don't care about policy. They wanted Trump and his anger and drama, and then just backfilled the reasons.

There is some truth there. Anger and drama seem to be appealing to the majority, competence and calm (Kamala's main traits, when viewed next to Trump) are signs of weakness, to be ridiculed.

“ "Uncle Joe" was able to defeat Trump, but two women weren't.”

That’s true but it glosses over 2020. Trump presided over a horrible handling of the Covid epidemic, and over an imploded economy. And he *still* only lost to Biden by 3.5 points. It should have been a wipeout if norms had been norms.

Male voters are laser-focused on the economy. Always have been in every election. That's why we saw them shift to Trump in a big way. It was all about inflation. If Trump doesn't deliver on the economy, then they will turn on him guaranteed.

Young males are scared that they will never be able to afford a home because of home prices. If home prices continue to go up(likely), then they will sour on him quickly.

by Anonymousreply 356November 6, 2024 5:12 PM

Wow, the graph @ r348 tells quite a story. Why in hell would young men go over in such high numbers to Trump, what exactly appealed to them? What was it about Harris that turned them away. We will need to get to the root of this.

I'm reminded of Scott Galloway - who supported Harris, btw - and his incessant campaign to support young men, to pay attention to their increasing disaffection and unhappiness with modern society. I always dismissed him as a bit of a crank, but will now be taking a longer look at him and his writing. He was onto something out there.

by Anonymousreply 360November 6, 2024 5:25 PM

[quote] Why in hell would young men go over in such high numbers to Trump, what exactly appealed to them? What was it about Harris that turned them away.

1. Trump is a man. Harris is a woman.

2. The right wing has been surprisingly effective in reaching out to young men in recent years through social media and podcasts. We always complain about Fox News here on D2L, but young men aren't watching TV news. Young men are being fed MAGA propaganda by social media influencers and right-wing podcasters. Even if they're not actively seeking it out, it's showing up in their feeds, thanks to the algorithms.

by Anonymousreply 361November 6, 2024 5:27 PM

Galloway was accused by some as being anti-feminist - as he was mildly critical of that movement in that he felt it left young men behind, put too much focus on the growth and development of one young gender over the other, perhaps at a small cost to the other. Many bit back that he was wrong, that the development and support of young women over the past decades was necessary to correct inequalities, that feminism has brought opportunity and growth.

While all of that was true, he merely pointed out that the genders aren't necessarily so separate, that development/support of young girls is fine but that a parallel, well-defined similar movement for young boys is also complementary and actually necessary. That leaving one entire half of the youth population out wasn't a healthy dynamic, supporting the two groups (and those that fall in-between cisgender) isn't mutually exclusive. He cited growing suicide rates of young males, the growing incel problem, and lower college attendance/grad rates of men behind women as bellweather stats and issues. He wasn't blaming feminism or women for it, just noting that successful support movements can be for everyone.

He may be worth taking a look at.

by Anonymousreply 362November 6, 2024 5:28 PM

R361 Yes but WHY are they latching on to their ideas? 20 years ago, the far right propaganda wouldn’t have worked, no matter the reach.

by Anonymousreply 363November 6, 2024 5:29 PM

Well, and take it a step further: who gave birth to those young men? If you're a woman living in a state where choice is reasonably to well protected, maybe your son's future matters enough to do this. (Not arguing they're right in their thinking just that's what the thinking might be.)

by Anonymousreply 364November 6, 2024 5:29 PM

[quote]There was no realistic option other than replacing Biden with Kamala.

I don't know about that. Instead of Kamala being anointed, a vote at the convention perhaps? No doubt the process would have been messy, but maybe we would have ended up with a more electable candidate.

by Anonymousreply 365November 6, 2024 5:30 PM

[quote] Yes but WHY are they latching on to their ideas? 20 years ago, the far right propaganda wouldn’t have worked, no matter the reach.

Because they're mixing in the right-wing propaganda with other topics that appeal to young men, like sports and gaming. You have podcasters or YouTubers who will interview a sports figure or talk about a video game while praising Trump and throwing in some jabs at liberals and "woke culture" at the same time.

by Anonymousreply 366November 6, 2024 5:43 PM

[quote] It's looking to me like the 18-30 numbers revealed "woke Gen Z" as a myth.

I'm stunned. Next we'll find out that that men playing girl's sports in every school in the land is a myth!

[quote] we would have ended up with a more electable candidate.

I don't think anyone was electable in a 100 day period. Not when you see the groups that turned right. Gen Z bros, Latino men, young black men. The only way to court them in 100 days would be to go on those podcasts and go down to their level. Lie, spread conspiracy, suggest that everything is a deep state plot, get into discussions on trans in bathrooms and vaccines and alternative medicine. That worked for Trump and Vance because the bar is so low for them. Dems would have a fit if a Josh Shapiro said those things. The far left would go crazy, the centrists would panic, the NYT would roast him and after all that the bros would call him a cuck because he's not the 78 year old orange man.

Flannery O'Connor's chilling short story, "The Displaced Person," explores the dark side of human nature.

Set in rural Georgia after World War II, it tells the story of a European refugee hired to work on a farm. The refugee's strong work ethic and unfamiliar ways unsettle both the farm owners and the existing farmhands. This resentment culminates in a horrific act: they deliberately allow him to be crushed by a tractor.

by Anonymousreply 370November 6, 2024 5:46 PM

The mixing of topics r366 doesn't fully explain why the youth are embracing it. Just because a YouTuber throws shit around, isn't a full explanation.

There is apparently a real disaffected, unhappy male youth movement here. One that is so disaffected and unhappy, they embraced the Terror of Trump, over the sane idealism of the Democrats.

It's not about housing prices either - most of these young men are nowhere near ready to marry and start the families that would bring about a house purchase. There is a large number of young males with real social and personal problems out there. They don't date, they don't finish college, they don't complete well with women in the workplace. Their suicide rates have been steadily rising. What's going on? Time for a deeper dive.

by Anonymousreply 371November 6, 2024 5:49 PM

Let's just say that this election was men reacting angrily to one party ignoring them and debasing them as racist and misogynistic. The men who work very hard and had to walk on pins and needles lest they address a co-worker by the incorrect pronoun . Who had to accede to the wishes of the new DEI officer ( always a black woman) and attend sensitivity and diversity training to find out that they were all racists because they were white. The men who were told that they were unimportant in this race, because this election was going to be carried by women, so they were ignored. So, they gravitated to the only person who made them feel important and voted for him, despite the fact that they might not have it as good. Hey, at least they were heard; and that's all that mattered. Enough of them and the women who were tired of the same things were heard loud and clear. And that's what you call " owning the libs."

[quote] The mixing of topics [R366] doesn't fully explain why the youth are embracing it. Just because a YouTuber throws shit around, isn't a full explanation.

It is an explanation when the young men are spending 6 or 7 hours a day on social media -- more time than they spend interacting with actual people. It is an explanation when they watch one of these right-leaning "dude bro" videos, and soon YouTube is recommending 10 more videos just like it to them. They end up going down the rabbit hole.

Hence, a larger group of unfuckable men than ever before. Many of whom are young and just starting out in life. They know Trump isn't gonna make their lives better but as long as Trump makes women's lives worse, that's all they care about.

by Anonymousreply 377November 6, 2024 5:56 PM

I think during the autopsy's it's always so important to remember much of this was backlash over inflation. If the Republicans had been in power, it would have been a fuck you to them. This was an anger vote. Happens all the time.

I'm skeptical there was a much more electable candidate. Like most old dogs, Biden got taken to live on a farm in the country, but it was too late. A mini-primary and everyone would have been emotional and torn apart. Democrats lack the discipline to fall into line when they need to.

She did run a successful campaign in many, many respects and she closed the gap. I was never a big Harris fan. I always felt DL was too easily swayed by her superficial qualities (as DL is always swayed by superficial qualities, hence the calls already for Newsom, without any arguments as to why. Which is the perfect explanation for a Gavin Newsom candidacy.) But I don’t fault her for her performance. It was very strong and the feeling was going in to this, she could do it.

I think the offer and messaging and focus on the economy should have been plainer (rate no tax on tips against opportunity economy) and more fleshed out, while fully thinking the emphasis on democracy and choice was sensible. So if it wasn’t, that’s on the Biden campaign, which became the Harris campaign. Their data didn’t tell them what they needed to know or they failed to heed it.

Even so whatever soul searching the Democrats have to do about their offer, this was in very large part an old fashioned ass-whupping, plain and simple.

But those programs or events don't 'villify' young men. They just don't include them. They're meant to uplift and develop a previously marginalized group, young females.

What's been missing in recent years - after the large success of many of the feminist programs - is a parallel movement for young men, geared towards their needs, which are different from those of young girls.

Close the widening gap, in terms of social and personal growth. Young men and boys are clearly in need, if this election is any indication. A wake up call.

by Anonymousreply 395November 6, 2024 6:34 PM

Trad wife content is HUGE for young women on TikTok and Instagram and young men worship alt right fascists like Musk and Vance. I know that liberals and leftists mock Vance but young far right men love him. He can go on Rogan and talk about being "red pilled" about vaccines and spout extremely online garbage that they eat up.

More than anything - Gen Z and Gen A scare the shit out of me. They were raised by social media. Do they read books or even whole articles? No. Do they have a strong sense of community? No. You see them on the street and they are staring at their phones with headphones on.

We are screwed.

by Anonymousreply 396November 6, 2024 6:35 PM

Should add to my screed at r393, and carrying over from r396: why the hell are people allowing rats like JOE ROGAN to influence their young sons or brothers? WTF - where are the PARENTS or other family? do they have any - ?

Who's raising these idiots. There used to be a thing called family or social pressure, that shaped younger people in society. I guess that's nearly disappeared.

by Anonymousreply 397November 6, 2024 6:36 PM

I do get tha, R395. But you're not in bro territory, and context matters. This is a gay-oriented site. No Joe Rogan. No Jesus. No cryptio. I'm coming for your bigotry, cunt.

by Anonymousreply 398November 6, 2024 6:37 PM

It reminds me so much of 2016. That time, Facebook etc fooled Democrats that Hillary had it in the bag. This time, the giant rallies (and Trump’s deteriorating mind) fooled Democrats.

It’s really awful that the country is so sexist and racist. Progress may have been set back for a decade or more.

by Anonymousreply 399November 6, 2024 6:39 PM

The public never warmed up to the Biden presidency because he and Kamala disappeared after the 2020 election and went into hiding. He rarely did press conferences, and was never out there speaking to the voters. Nobody knew what was going on. The press soured on him for the same reasons. Republicans were allowed to run amok with their own narratives because Biden was invisible.

Clinton and Trump were popular because they were always talking to Americans, all the time. People will forgive a lot if you are constantly communicating with them and they feel a real connection to you. If they feel like you're ignoring them, they will turn on you.

by Anonymousreply 400November 6, 2024 6:41 PM

by Anonymousreply 402November 6, 2024 6:45 PM

I think it reflects poorly on the Harris campaign that she's said nothing for all these hours. It's the same thing as that other time, although I doubt Harris felt so personally entitled.

Still if you propose to be able to lead the United States, and in particular during times of crisis, you better have a crisis plan and remarks prepared in case of the worst case scenario. She should have appeared earlier last night and said hold the faith, let's see where it goes and then got about the business of conceding once it became inevitable. I gather she's already rung him to concede but he's less important than her disappointed voters. I think this looks very feeble.

by Anonymousreply 403November 6, 2024 6:45 PM

R398 Where is my bigotry, lad? Genuinely asking. This is what I am talking about. The accusatory rhetoric is the problem.

by Anonymousreply 404November 6, 2024 6:46 PM

She may be breaking the fuck down and needs time to compose herself. I think we can grant her that.

by Anonymousreply 405November 6, 2024 6:48 PM

Well, if that's the case, she's a lousy candidate for President. Sorry, but the President doesn't break down and need to compose herself. That's absurd, R405.

Why? What do you need to hear r403? This was a loss, a big disappointing loss. No, words of comfort from the candidate are not going to make the slightest difference or prove anything. It's an empty useless ritual and if she doesn't feeling like doing it until later today, so what? Stop pretending you are personally hurt by this or have some right to an immediate concession speech.

by Anonymousreply 409November 6, 2024 6:51 PM

I also think Hillary's next-day speech was an excruciating mistake.

by Anonymousreply 414November 6, 2024 7:03 PM

Giving a concession speech is an act of enormous courage and toughness.

Perhaps that explains why Trump avoided that task.

I'll always remember Gore saying the words, "While I deeply disagree with the decision of the Supreme court, I do accept it."

All while a group of college Republicans hooted and ridiculed him while he said those words.

Ridicule and cruelty are a turn-on for Republicans.

by Anonymousreply 415November 6, 2024 7:04 PM

by Anonymousreply 419November 6, 2024 7:09 PM

Straight men are born and meant to be used, exploited and mistreated. This is a group that is characterized by alway pursuing the worse possible conditions they can experience and are vulnerable to being manipulated by a small number of men in powers who only purpose is to squeeze as much sweat and blood from them.

The members of this sex always fair better under liberal and progressive rules than they do with conservatives.

Wait until they are easily fired from their jobs because of an injury. When parental leaves for men are taken away. When they lose medical insurance while working under harsh conditions.

Straight men do not deserve anything. Do not feel any real and genuine sympathy for them, just pretend you do for show sake.

by Anonymousreply 420November 6, 2024 7:09 PM

You know, I just think he's too demented, fat and lazy to do much at all during this 2nd term. He'll go out on tv and at pressers, railing about this and that. But he'll want to spend most of his time golfing and sitting in the WH watching tv. The turds he's got on his Transition Team aren't much better. It's all too disorganized for any real activity.

And this time, he won't have the "libs" to blame when things go wrong, since the Senate and probably the House will be red as well. Who are they going to blame? They've got no one but themselves.

I truly hate to say this, but Trump's anger, nastiness, vengefulness, xenophobia, and sexual misconduct appeals as "masculine' to many.

Remember, wife Melania, instead of bring embarrassed by her husband, defended his "grab 'em" remark as "locker room talk." Never mind that Trump has not since military academy days entered a men's locker room; Melania gave this non-athlete "manly" cover. Ź

I’m assuming someone has already explained this to you on DL, but you keep posting it because you think it looks good. People are angry about the accumulated inflation, the total rise in prices between 2021 and today. They are not referring to just the rise in prices in the last month or previous 12 months.

If Trump is assassinated, who becomes president?

by Anonymousreply 448November 6, 2024 8:18 PM

Actually, you'll probably be hearing that a lot more r442. Like the "caravans," inflation has served its purpose of getting Trump back into office. Now Fox and the whole wingnut machine will discover that, well, in fact, inflation really isn't that bad and in fact hasn't been bad for quite awhile, so any complaints about it can be set aside while everyone focuses on whatever economic bullshit Trump is proposing for whatever idiotic reason.

by Anonymousreply 449November 6, 2024 8:18 PM

Dejected, possibly laid-off democrats stayed home. The "economy" as reported just leaves behind a lot of people who objectively aren't able to compete. Then they see the gov't begging for more immigrants, which is desperately needed to support an economy that they aren't represented in. Our freedoms allow us to leave those underperforming people behind, but those freedoms also allow to vote against the system as they understand it. Most Americans wake up everyday excited to go compete & win whatever they can from whomever they can, no matter their political affiliation. We go to economic war with each other every day.

All morning they told is that it was a record turnout. 140% of 2020’s turnout by noon blah blah. Then MAGA had a meltdown. They begged men to go to the polls. We were told women were saving us. We were told there was a 30 point gender gap. Bus loads of volunteers on the ground. 900,000 doors knocked. Then the election lies started targeting Philly and Detroit. Then the Russians called in bomb threats. We were told it would take days to count all ballots.

Then the count was rapid. She got 15 million votes less than Biden. The States were called quickly. As usual only black and Jewish women voted resoundingly for Harris. What the fuck happened!
