Yeah R29, it's too bad that Biden and the other dems before him didn't codify abortion rights into the consitution. They never did because they use it for election time, and now it's been shown that it won't win. Too fucking bad the dems didn't care enough about women to do that. Now we're fucked.

R33, that’s just bullshit. Democrats never had the opportunity. In 2009, when the economy was in free fall and taking up legislative priority, they might have passed it except for the fact that there were enough pro-life Democrats to block it.

People had 50 years (!) to pass an amendment to put abortion actually in the Constitution, instead of using a flimsy case like Roe to artificially create a right. That’s more than just Biden.

Why do people think that if Trump actually canceled Social Security (for example) that 350 million people would just be "oh, okay"?
by Anonymous | reply 40 | November 7, 2024 6:02 AM
|
What could 350 million people do about it? Nothing. There won’t be any more elections. Besides, TRumpers won’t care what he does even if it hurts them. But Trump could just get rid of Social Security in blue states and keep it in red states the way he does for disaster relief. No rules, laws, nothing will apply to him anymore. His cruelty will have no limits and be unrevokable. He’s king now.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 7, 2024 7:25 AM

Yes, kings have never ever been challenged or toppled or imprisoned or executed for crimes ever ever ever not even once in the history of the world.
350 million people can actually do quite a lot when existence is suddenly on the line.
And the quite a lot they can do will not be good for kings.
How this is not apparent is puzzling to me.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 7, 2024 7:37 AM

350 million people are not on Social Security, that's the entire population of the US including babies. Secondly, Trump can and will break laws, and unlike the days of Rome, their emperor was not surrounded by Secret Service with bullet proof vests, bullet proof cars, a personal sniper team and the entire military if need be.

Trump's public statements are meaningless when it comes to specifics. People are loyal to him, but he is not loyal to them. He will probably pick judges from a federalist society list again because that worked out well for him the first time, but other than that, who knows. I do see him following through on giving Elon some position because Elon isn't someone he can fuck over without consequences unlike many of his suckups.

This is someone who pushed legality in his first term. He raged at lawyers for constraining him, including from shooting at protesters and from investigating his political opponents without cause. Now he knows that American legal and political institutions cannot and will not stop him. And the Supreme Court has given him greater power and tacit approval. Fun times.

Putting these folks in charge of the bureaucracy may prove even LESS effective. I’ve worked in government contracting for almost twenty years. The worst leaders - the ones who get angry and scream but accomplish almost nothing - are the ones who don’t understand the culture, the processes, and the ground truth. Changing up an organization requires congressional approval in most cases - which takes a lot of time and will mobilize all sorts of political maneuvering. Even Republicans don’t like when an agency gets closer in their district.
I am not hopeful about this new reality. But if takes far more work than someone like Elon Musk can tolerate.

Eh, tarriffs (R60). Doubt that will happen. Trump is the worst aspects of his Gemini sun sign and he listens to whatever gets whispered in his ear, then he barks it loudly like he's the dog that came up with it. There is such a long and documented history of this. He barked about tariffs in order to get elected. He got elected. As president he'll do what he's manipulated into doing by his inner circle just like last time.
But the chosen Cabinet and the coming systemic governmental purges, holy shit. That will be all too real and it will be a nightmare. His inner circle who influence him the most are in an orgasm state and they cannot wait to get started.

Turd doesn't want to be bothered with these problems so he'll look for ham-fisted, easy solutions. Making gasoline 98 cents a gallon by drilling in Yellowstone should make the hillbillies happy. Handing Ukraine over to Rusher on Day 1 will also save a lot of money.
He wants to pig-out on McDonald's while he watches libtards cry about him on TV.
