Why did they think a black woman could win the presidency? Now, these Repube-licants can, and are, doubling down on orange Hitler.

I blame George Clooney and the rest of the elites for this. Obama, Pelosi, Schiff and the rest of them need to be held accountable for this mess.

Not me. I warned and warned, but The Democratic Underground told me not to worry.

Ignore men, lose an election. Ignore the economy, lose an election. Base your entire campaign on women's rights, lose an election.

I expressed concern in here a few weeks ago on the polls threads, and got chased around, bullied and 48-hour banned. So I shut up and talked positivity.
The problems in here are not so disconnected from the problems out there.

Id posted twice in a thread about Maga Bros freaking out, and was accused of being a troll, amongst a garage of replies, ostensibly saying what I'd written was BS.
Then the votes were counted.
Am pasting both posts, here, as this is a key crux in the failure of this election. Another problem is people genuinely believe that Chump CARES; not only for the American people, but also 'clearly loves his family '. When I had this conversation with a family member who was 'checking in to see how I was doing' (she started talking over me every time I tried saying anything) but I'll reiterate what I told her here, "this country now has elected a treasonous criminal and he is the president they deserve, hope you're happy with what you've wished for because you're going to get it"
(R8) They're making a wrong assumption. Unfortunately because of displacement projection of internalized sexism, many women are NOT voting for Harris. (R33) I wasn't trolling, or trying to say ALL women are voting one way or another. Just stating the fact that too many American women have severely skewed misogynistic streaks. From the great big demographic of married, uneducated women in the various 'Christian' communities to women who've aged out of caring about reproductive rights. Many OTHER women who are voting for Harris, tend to skew towards not only younger (knowing their body autonomy is at risk, among other rights), are most importantly, educated to know enough to NOT re-elect a felon with a penchant for starting insurrections and inciting domestic terrorists. For Magat male gen Xrs who are finding the 'number of women voting disturbing ', that's only because they're assuming they're ALL going for Harris. My post was speaking to that not being the case. (Ex. My own mother was going to vote for Biden, but is now abstaining, bc she's not 'comfortable ' voting for Harris).
Fundamental problem is that she's a she, although it didn't matter to everyone who were deliberately obtuse to the baked in misogyny in American society.

by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 8, 2024 2:17 AM |
No one said that, op. From the start we said there is a lot of work to do. Harris and her campaign tried damn hard. The people that cared voted. The rest fucked us. But no one said it was going to be easy.

McKay has previously supported the Democratic Party, and endorsed Bernie Sanders for president in 2016 and 2020. However, in 2019 he said he had also joined the Democratic Socialists of America. He has been vocal about the need for climate action and signed an open letter to Joe Biden in October 2023 calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
He criticized the Democratic Party's election strategy in a post on X earlier in the night, writing: "Who would have guessed lying about Biden's cognitive health for 2 yrs, refusing to do an open convention for a new nominee, never mentioning public healthcare & embracing fracking, the Cheneys & a yr long slaughter of children in Gaza wouldn't be a winning strategy?"

R30, you are a dumb fuck. I posted this on Tuesday night.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 8, 2024 2:31 AM |
I was completely blindsided by Harris’ loss. I didn’t believe the polls when they kept insisting Trump was ahead. But I voted back in September, I donated money, I put out a Harris yard sign, and I pushed my friends to vote. I don’t know what more I could have done. The Democrats who didn’t vote need to take responsibility.
And by the way, Harris and Walz ran an energetic and inspiring campaign. I am still in disbelief that they lost.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | November 8, 2024 2:45 AM |
R34, the lack of response in this thread shows how people don't care.
You all deserve Trump and you got him.

by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 8, 2024 3:57 AM |

In my defense, I've stayed off DL since it became clear on Tuesday night (mostly; I waded into the "What is Kamala's future" thread to doom post, but I had to stop reading and posting because it was too much) and had not seen this thread. That said, mea culpa.
I did not believe the polls, specifically the holy God-damned [italic]New York Times.[/italic] (Know who I am now? Maybe I should start signing posts. And I'll fess up, I said "she has this". Mea culpa.) They told us Shitler was winning, and I thought they were so in the tank for him that they were useless. Well, they're useless but they were correct. Mea culpa.
I believed that Hispanics would recoil from the Tangerine Tyrant's "deportation now" policy, but they did not. When Hinchcliff made the Puerto Rico remarks, I thought Cheeto was toast. Hispanics, specifically men, did not abandon him; they grew closer and in greater numbers. Ugh. They're going to learn the hard way that our Führer does not like them. Nevertheless, mea culpa.
In particular, I really thought women were going to vote for Harris because abortion. I forgot two things: men hate women, and women really, really hate women. I promise you here today that I will never make that mistake again. And I will never, for as long as I live, support a woman for president. Not ever. Never. Mea culpa.
I'm still in mourning and shock. I can't watch the news. I turned on MSNBC to hear Rachel tell us we have to make a plan to fight back, join a group, whatever. I had to turn it off.
I fear for our future. I weep for the women who will die in hospital parking lots, back alleys, in jails. I hope we have another election, but if past is prologue, a real election won't happen for about 20 years. There's a good chance many of those reading this will be dead by then, hopefully of old age, but I fear the worst; I fear that the world is going to descend into total chaos, and out of that will come nuclear war, biological war, or something we can't yet imagine.
I really thought she was going to win and we'd be safe for another 4 years, Boy, was I wrong. Mea culpa.

Sorry to hear that your important voice was silenced, Torta (@ R7). I noticed you were absent for a while. It must have been especially frustrating at this critical time. Since I was raising similar concerns, similar doubts & even blocked by some (looking now at our mutual friend, the deranged poster) for being a defeatist troll, if not worse, I don’t know how I avoided the same fate, one that had already befallen me a couple of times in the past several months.

[quote]She must be furious that she has to be FLOTUS again. I'm 100% certain she wants to divorce Trump and get away from him and all of this but she can't because he's president again. She has a male partner who she lives with - open secret.
In retrospect, perhaps it wasn't such a good idea for Kamala to get an endorsement from a celeb called Bad Bunny.
Especially since many Americans now equate Hollywood with evil and decadence.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 8, 2024 5:20 AM |

I posted last week that people were not going to vote Harris when Russia is at war with Ukraine and NATO, and Israel at war with Hamas and Iran.
People voted Trump because Putin, Kim, Xi, Orban and the mullahs don't respect women. Trump is the better bet for brokering an end to the military conflicts.

I received a suggestion from a friend on Facebook this morning that I start going for walks instead of “scrolling through bad news.”
I’m lazy, so I really hope DL gets past the Assignment of Blame phase soon. In the meantime I’ll just stop reposting the godawful news there that I learn about here.
Fwiw: I never once expressed the belief that Harris would win. I remember 2016 and I see the misogyny here. Add to that the racism and all I could do was donate money and write postcards. It was pretty fucking awful to see voters go for Trump in the very states I wrote and sent those cards to.
