I’m planning to spend less time online, and more time reading. I’ll also buy a treadmill to exercise and become marginally less fat.
How are you going to pass the time during Trump’s new era

Watch Rome burn and all that.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | November 6, 2024 4:38 AM |
No being a total slut option?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 6, 2024 4:39 AM |
I'll go with porn.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | November 6, 2024 4:42 AM |
Keep telling myself that at my age four years pass very quickly.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 6, 2024 4:43 AM |
I'm checking out. It's been real, folks.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | November 6, 2024 4:44 AM |
I blocked all the politics threads. I've unsubscribed for all the political youtube channels I was subscribed to. No more cable news. I'm no longer going to concern myself with women's reproductive rights, immigrants, all of it. I'm 68 years old and have spent 54 of them involved in politics, but no longer. If the rest of the country can't vote in what I believed was in their best interests, then why should I care. I'm blocking all the DL political threads. If you come at me with how I shouldn't get discouraged, or hang in there, I'm going to block you. I'm sticking to traveling, reading, watching TV, and cooking. I'm done.

I don’t blame you, r7. You sound like I feel. I’m not even American, but I don’t think I can bear to look at what 4 year of unrestricted Trumpian power will do to the country and the world. He’s genuinely unspeakable and so are the nutjobs surrounding him. He will fill his family’s coffers and seek revenge for the pettiest of slights. 4 year of Ivanka, Slenderman, Lurch, Uday and Qusay. 4 years of insults lobbed at any journalist who dares to ask a normal question. A 4 year-long illustration of the fact that ego, evil, vulgarity and lies can win you the greatest of prizes.
Ukraine disarmed and handed to Putin. I blame Europe’s leaders for that last one though: they thought the US would defend us in return for our willingness to follow America’s leadership militarily and diplomatically. Those illusions are now in ashes. Europe must stand on its own 2 feet, or it will fall.
There seems so little any of us can do at the moment. I hope America is revived in some way, but who knows? I’ll choose to look away from the corpse. I’m deleting Twitter and cancelling Amazon. I’ll read and I’ll watch stupid TV and try to exercise, and look away every time America’s chosen president bellows his latest demented cruelties from a TV screen.

Save your drama for your momma, OP.
You are helping [bold]no one.[/bold]
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 7, 2024 2:49 AM |
There will be no online porn according to the 2025 playbook. Goon on yourself while you can. 2026 all will be shut down.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 7, 2024 3:13 AM |
Republicans watch more pron than Dems, so it's safe.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 7, 2024 3:21 AM |
I'm going to pretend to be a Republican and grift my ass off. MAGAts are gullible as shit.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 7, 2024 3:22 AM |
I need a "Yes to all" option, please.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 7, 2024 7:36 AM |
Managing my retirement portfolio without social security by investing in companies I know will grift off this fascist government. Fossil fuels, opiates, weapons, predatory lenders, propaganda. If it hurts the American people, I want to exploit it for my personal gain.

I’ve been checked out of cable news since Trump won the first time. I haven’t watched more than 10 minutes of MSNBC since 2017. I didn’t even watch the news on election night. That’s why I’m not blubbering hysterically like many of these Marys around here. I’ve mostly given up on American politics. I only read about it online.
I’m more like a normal American, watching movies and shows and sports on streaming and playing games. I’ll barely ever see or hear about Trump, and that’s just the way I want it.

I'm going to do my best to block all political threads and discussion here. I think the approach where we just look after ourselves while they get what they voted for is the best one, with a strong dose of r14 and giving some of the money to good charities to help the ones who are getting hit by all of this. There is no point in causing stress responses over and over again by examining the minutia of the Orange Menace's administration.

These are great ideas. Maybe I'll put them on a dart board and select a new one each day.

Smoking copious amounts of pot, silly!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | November 7, 2024 11:34 AM |
I already exercise up to 3 hours a day. I might have to pick up the pace.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 7, 2024 11:40 AM |
We're not all flapping our caftans and watching soaps all day, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 7, 2024 12:06 PM |
R20, flapping your caftan may help rid you of that unpleasant odour. Do give it a try.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 7, 2024 12:44 PM |
Fascists love it when you don't bother your beautiful mind with their crimes. Makes it so much easier when you don't give a shit because you're binging Bridgerton

Working, parenting, spending enough time with friends and loved ones, feeding the itch/scratch of my online addiction, and trying to stay sane.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 7, 2024 1:06 PM |
R14 and R15 have the right ideas.
Keep it simple: just pour as much as you can in a S&P 500 index fund. It’s gone up 40 percent in the last year. They will never let it collapse. Ever.
Profit from the insanity and ignorance. And fuck all those who voted against their best interest. Not your problem.

Definitely cutting back on media consumption. Probably just Reuters and The Economist. Definitely no "opinion" writing. Probably leaving here, TBH. Not criticizing anybody, but the emotion here is like using. It's just not good for me. Chattering away until my renewal end of month. This feels like a thing where it's best to go away and live life in real time, somewhat buffeted from what's going, because what we want avoid seems to me likely to demand enough of us without adding to the burden through the devices.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 7, 2024 1:21 PM |
I keep having to say this. I cannot believe this has happened again, I cannot believe what is coming and I cannot believe America has chosen to do this.
Actually the last one I can absolutely believe. Thanks, greatest nation on earth and fuck you.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 7, 2024 1:23 PM |
Probably what I have been doing. Reading the news from a range of sources and perspectives. Making decisions for myself. Let the sheep follow their leaders, I'll keep on my own path.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 7, 2024 1:40 PM |
I will go back to LPSG, where there is no discussion of politics allowed...just dick.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 7, 2024 2:03 PM |
R24, it’s not impossible to lose money on the S&P. If you buy at certain peaks, you can be burned by the crash for many years. And even if you buy at better times, a crash can take four or five years to get back where it was.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 7, 2024 2:15 PM |
Following up on R29, the long term chart of the S&P 500 says it all. We have built ourselves a recent (past few decades) narrative that says "invest long term, like 20+ years, and you're guaranteed to do great."
But look further back. There have been a few 30 year and 40 year downturns. It is not impossible that it could happen again. The most recent surge is a historical anomaly.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | November 7, 2024 2:21 PM |
My plan is to hold until after the tax bill passes and then put either most or all into safer homes. When this all crashes, which seems likely, there’s an opportunity to become very rich and get out of this hellscape.

If the move US old age pensions currently in SS to the stock market, as is planned, it's going to transfer a fuckton of wealth into the markets...and financial services companies. Tarfiffs could cause a crash, though. Volatility is going to carry the day for a long time. The days of "set it and forget it" are likely over.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 7, 2024 9:33 PM |
Also – anyone wanting to ride this market should look closely into what happened with Liz Truss in the UK nearly crashing the UK economy with her budget. These folks are just as reckless.
