*OFFICIAL ELECTION THREAD 2024 (PART 3)*—Terminator 2024: The Morning After

No decision tonight, folks, and I’m drunkety drunk. Maybe tomorrow we will learn that Kamala had it all along. Hope someone keeps the faith through the night and posts any new threads. Time for bed. Please fill up part 2 before posting here.

Indeed! Let's plow forward.

by Anonymousreply 1November 6, 2024 3:11 AM

Hate to burst everyone's bubble but it's going to be blue wall or nothing. Women voting for abortion right are also voting for Trump. Students coming out in massive number do not mean they are for Harris, the "bro" vote is going to cancel out the normal progressive vote. Nevada and Arizona are going to be for Trump, full of retired Boomers and non-college educated whites. That's my prediction. Got to hold the blue wall.

She has to hold PA plus one of GA, NC or WI. An additional win in anything else is gravy.

by Anonymousreply 4November 6, 2024 3:22 AM

I think I’m going to have to go to bed soon.

by Anonymousreply 5November 6, 2024 3:22 AM

Carol Moseley Braun and Laphonza Butler were both appointed.

Only Kamala Harris, Lisa Blunt Rochester and Angela Alsobrooks were elected.

Ted Cruz wins. Ugh…

by Anonymousreply 7November 6, 2024 3:23 AM

If Trump wins, America deserves what it did to itself.

by Anonymousreply 8November 6, 2024 3:24 AM

300k+ votes about to come out of Gwinnett County, GA any minute now.

by Anonymousreply 9November 6, 2024 3:24 AM

I need to get to bed soon too.

I feel sick.

by Anonymousreply 10November 6, 2024 3:25 AM

Well at least we've been here before... thanks for the training camp Hills!

by Anonymousreply 11November 6, 2024 3:25 AM

This is really too close to be acting like anything is "gravy" at this point.

by Anonymousreply 12November 6, 2024 3:25 AM

Shit, sorry, I just started another Part 3, didn't see this one.

by Anonymousreply 13November 6, 2024 3:25 AM

My TV is on mute. I can't take Kornacki tonight.

His penny and nickeling the votes; his breathless reporting of the granular metrics that favor Trump.

Ugh. I like Kornacki. He's a numbers nerd which I admire, but it's too much for me right now.

and I can't stand Jake Tapper who is, you know, so much smarter than you and me.

by Anonymousreply 14November 6, 2024 3:26 AM

I have a feeling it won't be called until tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 15November 6, 2024 3:26 AM

I am sure Joanna Gaines and her dorky husband with their Fundi followers are thrilled with Cruz.

Harry Enten:

[quote] Lackawanna in Pennsylvania is now mostly in. Harris is winning the county of Biden's native Scranton by 3 points. That's a good 5 points behind Biden's 2020 performance and looks a lot more like 2016. Another underperformance for Harris in Pennsylvania, a state she almost certainly needs to win.

by Anonymousreply 18November 6, 2024 3:27 AM

Plenty of paths for her to win.

by Anonymousreply 19November 6, 2024 3:28 AM

[quote]A lot of bad will happen if rump wins. Starting with women’s rights

Did women really come out for Harris as was predicted? Has anyone said?

by Anonymousreply 20November 6, 2024 3:28 AM

If a state is declared one way or the other early (counted in the official vote, say Vermont for example) and then all of the votes are counted, can the official declaration be reversed or once declared its a done deal?

by Anonymousreply 21November 6, 2024 3:29 AM

Harry Enten:

[quote] In Pennsylvania, the exurbs are looking Trumpy. In Lackawanna County (Scranton), Harris is underperforming Biden by a couple of thousand votes, though she’s ahead of Trump right now. Our newsroom colleague Nate Cohn has this to say: “It’s still very early in Pennsylvania, but in the first few counties where voting is complete, along with hundreds of completed precincts across the state, Trump is running ever so slightly better than he needs to win.”

by Anonymousreply 22November 6, 2024 3:29 AM

I don’t see doom yet but this is fucking stressful. It’s all looking like a potentially very tight finish… and it’s all looking like the pollsters and polling averages were much more correct than not.

by Anonymousreply 23November 6, 2024 3:29 AM

Newsweek article that explains a lot about why her votes are down with Black voters, especially men.

“ And then there's Harris' record as a prosecutor. That's a deal-breaker for Quin, an ex-convict: "I don't trust corrupt prosecutors or prosecutors with hidden records."

Harris' prosecutorial record has been a source of contention for many in the Black community, who believe she contributed to mass incarceration during her stint as California's attorney general and in prior positions. Her perceived role in imposing policies that disproportionately affected Black Americans has created a deep distrust among many Black men.”

I don't know how anybody would really know that yet r20. That's the problem with all these snap exit polls.

by Anonymousreply 25November 6, 2024 3:29 AM

R19 At this point it's only possible with the three blue wall states...

... and PA is starting to look like a problem.

I love this country. I'll keep working for liberty and justice no matter how this turns out.

by Anonymousreply 26November 6, 2024 3:30 AM

Ugly

by Anonymousreply 27November 6, 2024 3:30 AM

So how bad will it be if Trump wins and he gets rid of the EPA, FDA, Installs Elon as a shadow President, and RFK Jr in charge of healthcare?

by Anonymousreply 28November 6, 2024 3:30 AM

[Quote] If a state is declared one way or the other early (counted in the official vote, say Vermont for example) and then all of the votes are counted,

What?

by Anonymousreply 29November 6, 2024 3:30 AM

R24, oh please, no one knows her history as a prosecutor or even if that’s true.

As if Trump’s call for innocent black men to be executed and not renting apartments to black families mean nothing

by Anonymousreply 30November 6, 2024 3:31 AM

Harris struggling in Virginia is a bad indicator for Penn.

by Anonymousreply 31November 6, 2024 3:31 AM

There is nothing 'close' about this.

It's disgusting and a clear win for them.

by Anonymousreply 32November 6, 2024 3:31 AM

R22 The only official declaration is from the state’s Secretary of State. Of course the “calling” of races tonight is NOT official. Kind of a dumb question.

by Anonymousreply 33November 6, 2024 3:32 AM

For R21 ^^

by Anonymousreply 34November 6, 2024 3:32 AM

R23 I'll eat crow here. I was so cynical that all the pollsters were hording to cover their ass... weighting the data to keep it close.

It's close. I guess they were right.

by Anonymousreply 35November 6, 2024 3:32 AM

This is insane. The man is a criminal. The dems dragged their feet prosecuting him. This will change the country forever, I am seriously considering moving to Mexico,

by Anonymousreply 36November 6, 2024 3:33 AM

I will say what I’ve been saying. This race may come down to the Governors of swing states. The Governors can find ways to connect the state apparatus with their party apparatus.

If I’m right, our Dem Governors in PA, MI, WI and NC will be a deciding advantage.

by Anonymousreply 41November 6, 2024 3:34 AM

[quote]There is nothing 'close' about this. It's disgusting and a clear win for them.

But...but...but..

by Anonymousreply 42November 6, 2024 3:34 AM

R30 yea. We do. That is all PUBLIC RECORDS. You must be very young because your lack of education is shining bright.

However, when she was made VP for Biden they suddenly locked up and hid many records. Hmmmm

by Anonymousreply 43November 6, 2024 3:34 AM

Not that I'm hoping to lose the will to live, but do we have any sense of the house or senate?

by Anonymousreply 44November 6, 2024 3:34 AM

R20- That lovely theory seems to be some quaint notion from another time-

This country has shown its ugly cards.

I am making peace with this now and will just stop watching the news..

The effects of this dictatorship will probably not show in any form for me personally until my 2026/2027 taxes. Social security will be gone..

I am never, ever, ever trusting another soul ever. I will try to be as kind as I can and fight for good wherever i can.

In my mind, this is over. I will not be checking anything tomorrow- In a few weeks I am sure I will have to face it, but I will avoid all articles and any videos, ect-

I never expected this from our country- After all this man did? He desecrated our capitol. I just can never look at anything the same way again.

Good night all-

Phil Mattingly:

[quote] In Pennsylvania, Harris is running ahead of Biden's '20 margin in Allegheny (Pittsburgh) by just shy of 3 points and well ahead of Clinton in '16. Most notable thing for Dems is that the so-called collar counties have 70% or more of the vote still outstanding. Biggest concern has to be Philly, where it's still early, but Harris is running 5 points behind Biden's '20 margin with 55% reported.

by Anonymousreply 66November 6, 2024 3:43 AM

Trump now 8% ahead in PA. PA is lost.

by Anonymousreply 70November 6, 2024 3:43 AM

Biden would not have won, R63.

by Anonymousreply 71November 6, 2024 3:44 AM

I know its early, but what were the factors here? I still think Harris will eke out a victory, btw.

Is it bigotry and misogyny? Inflation and prices of basic goods? Immigration?

The analysis will be lengthy and complex.

by Anonymousreply 72November 6, 2024 3:44 AM

R63 Hon, Joe would have lost every state but CA, NY and MA. Maybe MA and CN and WA.

by Anonymousreply 73November 6, 2024 3:44 AM

We all seem to be feeling the same sense of dread.

Steve Kornacki is saying that Kamala is performing more like Hillary Clinton did in Michigan in 2016, than Joe Biden did in 2020.

by Anonymousreply 97November 6, 2024 3:48 AM

Trump? Again? What is wrong with this country? When people are interviewed they say "it's inflation ... or it's the border ... or I like his policies." They have no idea how much he is going to screw up the economy with his lamebrained tarriff plans. Plus the social unrest will be off the charts Now the movie "Civil War" seems very prescient, because MAGA is being given the keys to power and they will want to hurt people. It's very disturbing.

If Kamala loses, it's not because of Kamala. It's because Americans care more about their own paychecks (which itself makes no sense, since Trump wants to enact crazy tariffs, but I guess vibes matter more) than they do about human rights/democracy. We fully deserve what comes our way if he wins. It is blowing my mind that Trump actually GAINED ground with Puerto Ricans in Florida.

by Anonymousreply 131November 6, 2024 3:54 AM

R120, young men are attracted to Trump's authoritarianism. They are much more susceptible to right-wing propaganda than women.

by Anonymousreply 132November 6, 2024 3:54 AM

[quote]I know its early, but what were the factors here? I still think Harris will eke out a victory, btw. Is it bigotry and misogyny? Inflation and prices of basic goods? Immigration? The analysis will be lengthy and complex.

There is a bit of a Bradley effect, but not about race, about sex. I think ultimately what this and Hillary's loss shows us is the immense problem of "anointing" a woman. I think many areas of the "coalition" are simply too conservative to accept a woman in the Presidency and they will defect over that. Working class culture is misogynistic.

Trump appealed to the tribalism of values. If you were a working class Hispanic voter, you have more in common with your white peers than you do with middle class independents and Democrats in the suburbs.

by Anonymousreply 133November 6, 2024 3:54 AM

Torta at r120 - there will be a LOT of analysis of these trends. What happened? It's the strangest thing ever.

by Anonymousreply 134November 6, 2024 3:55 AM

I’m still baffled that the Dems who live in liberal bubbles really thought Kamala would win when Clinton couldn’t.

by Anonymousreply 135November 6, 2024 3:55 AM

Wow, I can't believe it

by Anonymousreply 136November 6, 2024 3:55 AM

I guess they should have had an open primary. I can think of at least 10 democrats who would have wiped the floor with Trump. I loved how quickly Datalounge forgot how much even they hated Kamala. A Shapiro/Klobuchar ticket would have been able to declare victory at 8:05 PM. How Harris got on the top of the ticket is just an affront to voters. A disgusting display.

by Anonymousreply 137November 6, 2024 3:55 AM

Black vote is down with black women also. It’s just moreso with men.

by Anonymousreply 138November 6, 2024 3:55 AM

Kamala being a woman is hardly an issue, women have become presidents in far more conservative/trad countries (Mexico for crying out loud). The US has just had shitty female candidates.

R120 By the numbers at least years ago it was already up to a third of adult straight men are technically incels. Meaning they've been unable to find a sexual partner in over a year despite wanting to. That is already a clear social crisis that won't end well and many years of onlyfans and dating apps and social media later it's probably nearly half of them if not more. This isn't surprising at all to me.

by Anonymousreply 147November 6, 2024 3:56 AM

R67- he is not 8% ahead in PA. He’s up about 2%

by Anonymousreply 148November 6, 2024 3:56 AM

R139 we aren’t those countries. We are America. What kind of idiot uses other countries in regards to America?

by Anonymousreply 149November 6, 2024 3:56 AM

The people who hate women hate Democrats. The people who can't imagine voting for a woman can't imagine voting for a Democrat. The people who hate Kamala Harris for being a woman also hate her for being a Democrat. It is not some simple formula of inserting a white male in there and everything becomes hunky-dory. It never was and never will be.

What the people who are insisting on a white male candidate are really insisting on is a racist, misogynist asshole who will basically be a carbon copy of the Republican douchebro candidate that will inevitably win the Republican nomination.

by Anonymousreply 150November 6, 2024 3:57 AM

R125, Mexico? Wouldn't you prefer a more democratic country to move to, like Canada? It is also more pro-gay and speaks the same language.

by Anonymousreply 155November 6, 2024 3:58 AM

by Anonymousreply 158November 6, 2024 4:00 AM

by Anonymousreply 159November 6, 2024 4:00 AM

[quote] Sherrod Brown loses his Senate seat.

Yeah, most didn't think Trump would increase his vote margin in Ohio, making a Brown win most unlikely.

by Anonymousreply 160November 6, 2024 4:00 AM

Incumbent governments everywhere struggle during high inflation. The fact that this is close at all is due to Trump's craziness. If the Republicans has elected a typical GOP candidate they would have romped it home.

I'm wondering how much of the $1billion spent on the campaign was used to educate the public about the causes of inflation.

by Anonymousreply 161November 6, 2024 4:00 AM

It is also very troubling to see Trump making so many inroads, gains vs 2020, in metro areas and Dem-friendly areas coast to coast. This means he has a real chance to win the popular vote for the first time. We would no longer be able to say “well, the majority of us never chose him, the Electoral College system made it happen”.

The immense damage that Joe Biden did.

by Anonymousreply 177November 6, 2024 4:05 AM

Some of you think too narrowly. A Jewish person can win the presidency. A woman can win the presidency. A Latino can win etc. The bar is higher, yes, but not impossible.

Michelle Obama would have won against Trump for example.

by Anonymousreply 178November 6, 2024 4:06 AM

R172, once they put the toothpaste under lock and key at CVS, I knew a Republican could do well in NYC. And other metro areas.

by Anonymousreply 179November 6, 2024 4:06 AM

[quoe]The immense damage that Joe Biden did.

Biden shouldn't have been the nominee in 2020. This is the result of a fucked-up primary system that allowed South Carolina (a ruby red state) to choose who the Democratic nominee would be.

by Anonymousreply 180November 6, 2024 4:06 AM

[quote]The immense damage that Joe Biden did.

I admire a lot of things about Joe, but yeah, I think by staying so long and waiting until his numbers were so low before bowing out, he left Kamala in a tough position. She entered the race late and didn't have as much time as a usual nominee to campaign and make up the ground.

by Anonymousreply 181November 6, 2024 4:06 AM

Joe didn't do any damage. He doesn't even know who the fuck he is and hasn't for a while. It was whoever was pulling the strings that did the damage. Instead of getting him out before the primaries they intentionally let him kill his chances in the debate so they could replace him with the empty vessel Harris. But you called us all Boris.

by Anonymousreply 182November 6, 2024 4:06 AM

Kevin Liptak:

[quote] The Harris campaign chair Jen O'Malley Dillon just told campaign staff in an email they "feel good" about the Blue Wall, pointing to outstanding vote counts in the main metro areas. "What we do know is this race is not going to come into focus until the early morning hours," she wrote.

R170 I’m sorry but there’s no way she wins Nevada after what we’ve just seen unfold. Blue Wall 3 for 3 will be the miracle but that’s a 273 Harris, 265 Trump outcome.

And if it’s that tight with Trump barely losing, then all bets are off with (a) MAGA violence and (b) Supreme Court Trump-friendly majority getting involved somehow.

There's a steady drumbeat of "Democrats bad - never vote for a Dem" on Fox and Newsmax, and they are the default station in so many public places. It's all they hear, it's part of the news. Dems won't be able to convert people who have been indoctrinated with "never vote for a Dem" so thoroughly and for so long.

There are more Dems out there than Republicans, but they can't get their people in lockstep the way Republicans can, and do.

R231, it's largely because we now live in an era in which almost every Senate race votes the same way the state votes for President. Brown is a very strong Senator (as is Jon Tester in Montana) but the problem is that this was a Presidential year with Trump on the ballot. If this was a Midterm year like 2018, Brown & Tester would have had a much better chance at winning, as they did in 2018.

Biden’s refusal to drop out create an immense amount of distrust in the Party. People began to consider Trump even if they disliked him. Biden’s subsequent actions in July post-debate were unconscionable from a Democrat. The amount of corruption within the Biden administration was despicable. He proved himself to be just as senile as Trump. Who was running the country?

Biden created the border crisis, Biden’s stimulus helped create inflation. He did not have justice go after Trump because he wanted him as an opponent. Biden created the stage for a Trump revival.

Even when he stepped down, I was of the opinion that nothing could be done to win the election because Biden had caused so much damage to faith in the Party. I said that we would certainly lose and that the best we could hope for was to keep the downballot races from going off a cliff.

That Harris turned out to be a very good candidate was a SURPRISE. I was the poster who said, Is anyone else surprised by how good she is on the stump and had a poll, and the majority of respondents indicated they were surprised. But that means her brand was not strong to begin with.

If she wins tonight, it will be because of the immense organizing strength in the party, not because of her. I like her, but it is an immense risk to try to market someone like her to the rest of the country. She is a Democrat from San Francisco. She has little achievement in Congress or the Vice Presidency. Most people did not know too much about her after three years.

I think it was a warning sign how well Nikki Haley was doing in hypotheticals against Biden - she was fourteen points ahead in Wisconsin. That points to a change election. Trump’s myriad problems are the reason he was even with Harris, but people were already saying they were not happy with the state of the country and his administration. And Harris comes from his administration.

Trump lost the state by less than 3 points in 2020, and in the counties with 95%+ in Trump is tracking about 4 points better than he did four years ago. In other words, he's doing what he needs to do so far in the counties that are in, but we'll see.

I work remotely for a non-profit that deals with gun violence, so I don't have to deal with Trumpster colleagues. I no longer talk to Trumpster relatives or Trumpsters I knew from a past job, high school, college etc, As long as I have close friends and relatives who voted for Harris I'll be ok because I know we all did what we could to defeat the fucker. Back in 2016, I had lost a job prior to the election and dealt with other bad shit in my life. I was devastated on election night. . A few days after the election, a friend called and asked if I could house and pet sit for her parents until the New Year. Her parents went to another state to take care of her grandmother who was dying of cancer. I was spending some nights at their house and then some nights at my house while going on job interviews and applying to jobs online or dropping off and sending applications. The only times I got together with people were for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Luckily, in early December I got a job offer for a remote job which stared in January. Looking back I was sort of glad that back then I was able to be in a situation in which I wasn't around too many people gloating over Trump's win.

Do something about the increasing antisemitism, instead of calling criticism of nutcase imams and out of control protests Islamophobic. Here's a clue - the extremist Muslims HATE you just as much as fundie Christians do because you support gay rights. Stop pandering to them, for the love of God, stop pandering to them.

Focus on the economy and the cost of living. Get your fucking asses together already or else we could be facing a possible Trump presidency WITH a Conservative government of our own. That would be a fucking disaster for us.

Get back to the fucking centre before it's too late. You can be a centrist party and still hold some progressive values, it's not impossible. Either way, now's the fucking time to act.

by Anonymousreply 380November 6, 2024 4:59 AM

Well, being hopeful for a couple of months felt nice, I don't regret that one bit. But if, despite all that fundraising and that huge canvassing effort, the majority still wants the country to go through a fascist phase, then there's just not much to say about that other than hope the country is still recognisable four years from now.

But yeah, I can't believe this motherfucker will open the Olympic Games.

[quote]Crazy as it sounds, the Latinos for Trump voting bloc has increased.

[quote] Assholes that hate gays, are super religious, and think he's the best thing ever. Not the brightest bunch.

I grew up in a Latino community in New Mexico and when I realized I was a lesbian as a teenager, one of the hardest things I had to deal with was the homophobia. I was raised Catholic, but my parents weren't homophobic and were pro-choice. When I came out it was not an issue. But, I have known gay and lesbian Latinos who had a hard time because they either had very conservative Catholic parents or very conservative Evangelical Protestant parents and some ended up estranged from their parents.

[Quote] IMO, a lot of racist people showing up at the polls.

No, most Americans aren’t the racists you’re accusing them of being.

The Republicans figured out decades ago how to get poor whites and middle class flyover whites to vote for them. Set up a “news” network that’s really a propaganda outlet. It would create a spectrum of “culture wars” issues to get middle Americans to the polls, not necessarily to vote for republicans, but to vote against the vilified liberals who are out to destroy America.

It worked. As long as we don’t have an answer to it, we will keep losing over and over again.

Is this true? Well?

by Anonymousreply 385November 6, 2024 5:00 AM

R368 That's because Biden had a huge amount of mail-in ballots to be counted. Harris won't get that.

by Anonymousreply 386November 6, 2024 5:00 AM

Someone was mentioning earlier about PA, MI, and WI having a lead change after election night in 2020, but wasn't that with Democrats having so many absentee/mail-in votes? Aren't Republicans going to have a lot of those additional votes this year since they learned their lesson?

by Anonymousreply 387November 6, 2024 5:01 AM

The rest of that shit is just irrelevant to them. Be a complete cunt like Trump or get out of the way is the only thing they want to hear. Stop pretending you have some magical formula that "slightly left of center" people can use to appeal to the typical Trump voter. They don't give a shit about any or your nonsense.

R383 because they’re racist, you fucking moron

by Anonymousreply 394November 6, 2024 5:03 AM

I want to point out the flaws in the magical thinking a lot of you have

A lot of people are voting for Trump because they have contempt for America because they believe it is failing. And it is.

Part of the reason it is failing is because Democrats naively try to insist that if you elect them, they will get things done. It never happens because the REPUBLIC is a failed experiment. It does not work. Other countries realized this and created parliaments. By holding up our august experiment as worthy of the deepest respect, Democrats turn a blind eye to the anger and cynicism many have for it. People do not like being told to disbelieve their own eyes. When Democrats whip that Orwell phrase out, it is to mock Republicans. But we are guilty of it. Biden showed everyone the emperor had no clothes. He was just as corrupt as Bush in my opinion. And Biden’s weakness is the fact that he did not and will not use his new executive power to stop Trump’s return to office if elected. If we are being told that this man is the antichrist but we are still going to let him assume the presidency, then we are just as guilty of being the sheep we accuse the Republicans of being.

by Anonymousreply 395November 6, 2024 5:03 AM

[quote] As long as we don’t have an answer to it, we will keep losing over and over again.

[quote] It’s worth pointing out that whatever strategy the Democrats decide to pursue in the coming years, it will not include the rebuilding of a Blue Wall, because demographic patterns are quickly shifting too many people (thus census counts, thus representatives and thus electoral votes) out of those states and into the south. They will need a new approach all around.

A tie throws the election into the House of Representatives where each state gets one vote for President, even if the Democrats retake the house more state delegation's are likely to have a majority of Republicans than Democrats since states like California and New York have so many Democrats and that would still be a Trump victory. Unfortunately.

by Anonymousreply 459November 6, 2024 5:29 AM

The biggest mind fuck here is that the people who will be least impacted are the people who voted for Harris! They are educated, they are mid-high income earners, they live near services, they live near good schools, they live in secular areas.

The people who voted for him will suffer terribly if he can enact even 10% of his plan. With the Senate he can put loons in his Cabinet so he can likely enact 50% of his plan. Latino men with a trade certificate a couple of babies will be impacted way more than a Philly accountant. An Arab in Michigan who has parents who are not citizens and family in the Middle East is going to suffer immensely. How much resistance will come now? Will white women march for reproductive rights in red states now? I don’t think so.

by Anonymousreply 460November 6, 2024 5:29 AM

Fucking Rashida Tlaib will probably to be blame for Michigan. I wonder how her relationship with AOC will be going forward. AOC was all over campagining for Harris. Tlaib refused to endorse her.

Tlaib's relationships with other high profile Dems in Michigan have probably soured. Back in June, I saw pictures on Facebook from an event a Michigan Democratic club event. Attendees were photographed with Tlaib and other Dem congresspeople Haley Stevens, Debbie Dingell, and Shri Thanedar. In the pictures it was painfully obvious that Stevens, Dingell, and Thanedar were trying to keep their distance from Tlaib.

If Trump gets in (God forbid), he's a bumbling idiot who, in all likelihood, wouldn't even serve his full term. But the country will be run by technofascists such as Thiel, Musk, JD Vance, etc, with some useful idiots (RFK Jr) who'll be abetting them. And these people are not statesmen or even politicians. They are adherents of bizzarre ideologies who live in far right online echo chambers. And things are moving in the direction of South/Latin American authoritarian places like Bolsonaro's Brazil, Argentina, or El Salvador. The real damage will be that they will do serious damage to the educational and judicial systems, as well as the mainstream media, by stacking them with loyalists. Watch crypto being pushed as a legitimate currency and all scams that result from it. There will be a big redistribution of wealth but not in the way Trump voters are imagining.

I’m 40. My parents are still living and they are unwavering Trumpers. I don’t know what they are hoping to accomplish through their slavish devotion or what legacy they hope their generation is passing down. I don’t know how they can look at their two gay children, their only children, and say “Yes, this is right. This is the future I want to happen when I’m dead”. I still have to go home for Thanksgiving and Christmas and pretend like everything is fine. I don’t know how to tell my elderly parents that I think they’ve been brainwashed by Fox and Facebook into becoming a pair of low class pieces of shit. I don't know r477, but I don't think you are obligated to be nice about any of this. Not sure you're obligated to go home either. Tell them you think he's an asshole and they are assholes for voting for him.

by Anonymousreply 486November 6, 2024 5:39 AM

R472. If both sides are acting that way I won’t vote at all.

If she loses, and unfortunately she might, I know she will do it with grace. That’s something foreign to Trump and most of the country.

by Anonymousreply 495November 6, 2024 5:41 AM

by Anonymousreply 496November 6, 2024 5:42 AM

R496 he’s an openly gay man. Again, you show how out of touch you are.

by Anonymousreply 498November 6, 2024 5:42 AM

I also want to point out something

The outrage over getting offended when a member of the coalition is targeted

We are learning what our allies really are. Latinos, black men. They do not identify with a party that has come to symbolize educated and relatively affluent people. We tell everyone how awful it is when Trump insults and mocks them. They don’t care about that stuff. We treat them with kid gloves out of liberal guilt, but the truth is that we have not provided the kind of response they want to see to the problems they have. Black Lives Matter increased brazen theft which caused even more difficulty for black neighborhoods. The border crisis - which was created because we had to be “humane” - increased distress in Hispanic communities. The things we are doing for our “allies” are making things worse.

Most of these people are fundamentally decent people who want to live in safe communities and don’t need to feel “seen” and validated at all times. The obsession with outrage over Trump’s racism has made no headway with them because they at some level do not fundamentally respect what is being done. They don’t like that we get outraged. They don’t like us. They don’t like the bourgeoisie.

If you want then to respect you, you need to turn iff the loud voices in the Democratic Party who have elevated themselves within the party by using racial grievances.

by Anonymousreply 499November 6, 2024 5:43 AM

ABC just nailed it on the head HARDCORE. They said Democrats are gonna have excuse after excuse when in reality this is the people taking back the country and wanted to reset things because these last four years have been terrible for many.

This shows the majority don’t want an open border, the majority feel the economy is bad, the majority are struggling, the majority don’t agree with gender politics etc. People are just tired of the BS.

by Anonymousreply 500November 6, 2024 5:45 AM

ABC announced Kamala is refusing to speak tonight. 🤣

by Anonymousreply 501November 6, 2024 5:46 AM

Musk posted an image of him carrying his sink into the Oval Office.

by Anonymousreply 502November 6, 2024 5:47 AM

R495. I understand why you’re so upset. I was hoping tonight was going to be much better for Harris.

I’m worried about the Heritage Foundation too.

by Anonymousreply 503November 6, 2024 5:47 AM

She should have spoken personally. Honestly, Hillary did it too. Why can't they summon the leadership to speak that night? It reads weak. Her political career is over.

by Anonymousreply 504November 6, 2024 5:47 AM

And ABC and all the cunts saying all of that r500 will magically find that the economy is perfect, righteous, pure, and true the second Trump steps into the White House, right?

Fuck off, you whore.

by Anonymousreply 505November 6, 2024 5:47 AM

r499 Yep. Saw a clip the other day of someone interviewing people on the streets in some African country (Nigeria, maybe?) and they all said they supported Trump. They don't care that he calls their home shithole countries, they like him because he tells it how it is and gets shit done. It's the rawness that appeals to people, and that's just something we need to accept going forward.

by Anonymousreply 506November 6, 2024 5:47 AM

I can't help but feel bad for her. She did what her party asked her to, even when the party knew for months Joe was a liability. And then she went out there and truly gave it all she had.

by Anonymousreply 507November 6, 2024 5:47 AM

Tbh if we want Dems to be a moderate party that only runs straight white military men who refuse to mention gay rights or women’s rights then we might as well go to one party rule!

by Anonymousreply 508November 6, 2024 5:48 AM

Kamala will not be seen until tomorrow. That isn’t a good sign.

I’m really worried about the blue wall. I think this may be what we feared most.

by Anonymousreply 527November 6, 2024 5:52 AM

Oh ABC IS NAILING IT TONIGHT

They just said live on TV that Kamala going home and refusing to speak is AMATEUR HOUR. She should speak to the people who supported her instead of refusing to address them. They said it’s childish and unprofessional.

They also said the Democratic Party needs to evaluate themselves.l and not point fingers. They dropped the ball here. There should have been an open debate and election for a new Democratic nominee and not just choose her.

I’m shocked they’re nailing the Dems.

[quote] Well folks it's pretty simple. Harris' paths to 270 electoral votes are limited, and Trump's are plenty. To make it simple, Harris must carry Pennsylvania. There is no path without it. by Anonymousreply 533November 6, 2024 5:55 AM

Harry Enten:

I want to note that there will be a lot of analysis as to why Harris is trailing right now. The answer to me is really simple. No incumbent party has ever won another term with so few Americans thinking the country is heading in the right direction.

However:

Does that include electing a criminal who is a compulsive liar and crazy? Apparently so.

Yeah, they "feel" it. But they're 100% wrong. I'm not American, and over here we all know your economy is #1 in the world by every measure except the deficit, and that middle of the road economists from all other developed countries think the Trump policies will destroy it.

It's not the economy that is making people feel wretched, it's the way the US does capitalism, and that's going to get way worse under Trump (or rather, Musk and Thiel). But if people really wanted that addressed they'd have voted for Sanders. What they want is retribution, because they ARE voting about how they "feel", and that's what Trump offers.

by Anonymousreply 545November 6, 2024 5:59 AM

The fact that Harris made it such a close race was a sign of her strength. This was an uphill battle because people do not like that state of the nation and they do not like the Biden administration.

This is Biden, Biden, Biden. We told everyone for months he was not a good president. We were told to shut up. I probably opened 10 accounts on here because i kept getting FF’d for saying Biden needed to step down.

Biden behaves like Trump. Harris was anointed not because she was the best candidate to replace Biden but because Biden owed his own rise to the Presidency to the transactional nature of his deal making with the Congressional Black Caucus. That’s a kleptocracy if I ever heard one.

We are dealing with the inevitable ending of Biden’s cynical, disgraceful presidency. The Republicans would gave been less likely to choose Trump if they saw the Democrats choosing a new candidate. Biden DEPRIVED Democrats of the ability to choose their candidate. How did we think we were going to overcome that handicap?

by Anonymousreply 546November 6, 2024 5:59 AM

[quote] People wanted Thomas to resign. Be careful what you wish for.

We want him to resign in time for Biden to pick a replacement and ram that through. He probably won't, but maybe he'll keel over dead tomorrow, along with Alito. That would be fine.

by Anonymousreply 553November 6, 2024 6:03 AM

The Democratic Party did about as well as it could have under the crazy circumstances. A president running for re-election turned out to be just too damn old and it showed. So they swapped in his vice president, who ran about as well as she could have in every way.

The truth is, the great and good American people have apparently (still not clearly, cause these things just have to be dragged out these days) but apparently decided to vote crazy, for the guy the who tried to steal the last election. Yeah, there are fingers to be pointed, and really they are not at the Democratic Party leadership. They really are at the crazy ass voters who have made a really stupid decision (again, assuming they have, cause who the fuck knows for sure).

Look now.

The other failure of the Biden presidency was his inability to realize that he was not elected because people liked him but because things in the country were going bad and he was the only alternative. The sane thing happened here. Voting for Trump was the only way you could say you are unhappy with the state of the country.

We are in late stage capitalism. You must understand that you can not run a positivist campaign when it will only get worse. We are becoming the society depicted in Blade Runner. Things will get worse and worse and the country will just oscillate between two poles because that’s all it can do.

by Anonymousreply 572November 6, 2024 6:10 AM

What do Democrats need to wake up to, R570?

by Anonymousreply 573November 6, 2024 6:11 AM

My only gripe with Kamala is she was terrible at interviews. When put her name forward to be the nominee and I expected she would be a much better candidate this time but she still struggled to articulate anything or explain why people should vote for her. And don't get me started on the 6 or so weeks after getting the party support to be the nominee when she refused to do interviews. Once that narrative grew that she was scared of interviews it killed her momentum and chances of winning.

by Anonymousreply 574November 6, 2024 6:12 AM

R573 if you don’t know, that says all that needs to be said. There is no explaining it to you. Time to wake up.

by Anonymousreply 575November 6, 2024 6:13 AM

Oh no. Now Trump will say he has a mandate to be a jerk. He’s going to be 79-82 while in office. It’s going to be a rough ride for Americans as he gets crazier and crazier, especially when his poll numbers tank,

by Anonymousreply 576November 6, 2024 6:13 AM

We'll have to re-examine all those so-called "garbage" pollsters and move them into the highly accurate category.

by Anonymousreply 577November 6, 2024 6:13 AM

They love being despised r572, they just apparently want to be despised by Wall Street and Silicon Valley and everybody at Mar a Lago. This fantasy that reaching out and understanding will change anything is bullshit nonsense, and that's what needs to stop.

by Anonymousreply 578November 6, 2024 6:13 AM

Trump’s nuttiness merely mirrors the contempt most Americans have of government. Remember the baby boomers were the ones who said “Don’t trust anyone over thirty.”

Once again, the pollsters were way off the mark. The polls showed a close race, but Harris was usually ahead in the blue wall states, even if it was by a small margin. Nobody was predicting a clean sweep of the swing states by Trump. And Ann Selzer, the queen of polling who supposedly can do no wrong, predicted Harris would win Iowa by 3 points, but Trump is actually winning Iowa by 14 points. Selzer was only off by 17 points. Pollsters totally underestimated Trump's strength. I've usually been a defender of polls, but they seem to have been meaningless this time around.
