Voting Parents
Whenever I go to vote I always remember going with my mother to vote. She would always say that voting was important but that I must not reveal who she votes for. It was a secret. Then we would go into the booth- I miss booths-pull the level and the curtain closed. I would hold her purse. And watch her pull a lever up or not. I never saw her waiver or pause. She knew who and what she was voting for. Then we went to the movies because I was home because I got the day off. I have often thought that they should make Election Day a national holiday. I believe they do that in Australia. I am grateful for lot of things she did but showing me how to vote was an important one.
She also took me to mass every Sunday-so it evens out

I recall going with my mom to vote as a little kid in the seventies.

I remember walking in and seeing my mother getting plowed doggy style by our neighbor. And then we voted also. I miss her.

I used to go around holding my mother’s purse in and outside of the voting booth everywhere always, OP.

The secret ballot was foisted on us from Australia, where it was used to establish right wing control.
The US got better results when people had to declare personally who they were voting for in public.

Consider this: Abraham Lincoln was not elected by secret ballot. Donald J. Trump was.

My parents drummed it into me that I must use my vote in every election at every level because apathy invites despotism.
