Just voted in NYC, Hell’s Kitchen, around noon. Hardly anyone there. All the people helping out were super nice.
How was your voting experience?

Popped in before work—in and out in five minutes. My neighborhood polling station in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston was busy but well-staffed and they kept everyone moving.

Voted back in September. Didn’t deal with anyone.

I got to my polling place just after it opened and waited for 15 minutes or so. All very smooth, civilized and calm. No signs, no protests, nothing but voters waiting quietly for their turn and exchanging pleasantries. And I live in a cherry red state.

Comfy. Sat at my kitchen island, filled out my ballot while sipping coffee.
Mailed it in, and checked daily until it was received and counted.

Just tried to vote in HK and there was a very long line such as I have never seen before. Maybe they were having some problems. Maybe my mistake was that I arrived just as "lunch hour" was sort of beginning. I didn't wait, will try again later.

I'm in CT, never saw as many people as I did today (early afternoon voting is slow in this area), checked address before being let in, once inside, everyone was civil, albeit poorly dressed.

Voted a couple of weeks ago as a US citizen living overseas. I had to ask 3 times for the ballot, and I noticed the return email address to direct the ballot had a couple of extra letters in the address (but nowhere else.) The elected county register is, small surprise, a Republican. It's not remotely close where I am registered, but I couldn't not vote.

Westchester Cty at 12pm. I’ve never seen so many people in this tiny polling place since 1992. That’s a GOOD SIGN, even if the state of NY always goes Dem. Another good sign - I haven’t seen any Trump signs or bumper stickers.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 5, 2024 6:33 PM |
There was a line of about 10 people ahead of us. We went at around 10.
We do the touch-screen thing and the ballot gets printed. Yes, I made sure the names I voted for were actually printed out.
Now we wait.

Must add that the voting machines are slow this year…I’ve heard there are also worse problems with them in NYC. This may be a slower night than I expected. Though I still think Kamala’s win will be announced before midnight ET tonight.

Voted in Washington Heights before work this morning and it took five minutes. Two of which were taken trying to get my I VOTED sticker from the bumbling volunteers.

Yep. Just voted for Trump, walked right in with my MAGA hat. But, for some reason, I couldn’t help but notice the many icy stares I received while walking to my booth. It was a very odd and scary experience!

R15 (if you're serious), you should be happy you weren't thrown out. You can't wear candidate paraphernalia to vote.

Two weeks ago, waited in line for over an hour to vote early. HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS of people on a friday afternoon

I live in a low-income (60% white trash/40% African American) urban neighborhood. I went in person at 1:00 pm today. There was no wait. The mostly black poll workers were friendly and efficient. I had my driver's license and cheat sheet ready.
The only kink was when I was ready to slide my completed ballot into the machine at the end, I asked, "Face-up?" and he said, "Nah the other way". He was a kinda low class white guy and I had a fleeting feeling that he was a Trumper, he lied, and my ballot wasn't counted. When I walked up he should have said clearly, "Please put your ballot face-down in the slot".
My elderly mother was voting absentee by mail and she accidentally voted for two different people for President (Kamala and someone else). She called the board of elections very upset and they sent her a new ballot and she voted straight Democrat.

I always get to my polling place( my local Senior Center, 1 block away ) at 6:30 AM so I can be first to vote. Didn't work out that way today, 10 people were ahead of me and by the time the polls opened at 7:00 AM there were 57 people behind me. Unprecedented, and I am taking it as a very good sign.
Went back top the Center at noon for my stitching group(only two other groups had to be cancelled to make room for the voting machines and what appeared to be their Gen Z attendants. Not much activity, but that will change soon as the early workers will be clocking out for the day( I heard from a few friends who work for various companies that they were allowed to go home one hour early in order to vote, three cheers to those forward-looking and accommodative workplaces)
My Tuesday night group breaks up at 7:00PM, I'm thinking of going to the Center yet again, just to see how long the lines are. I'd sure love to hear that 60-65% of the eligible voters turned out to do their civic duty. With this race being as important as it is, 75% would be even nicer for a Harris win that we could really rub Trump's nose in.
I'm not staying up to watch the returns, if it's bad news it can wait. So, when I get up it'll either be a bottle of champagne, or a razor blade. Hoping to have to pop a cork. 🍾

Voted in CT for the first time (new resident, not new voter) 20 minute wait because CT is kind of a disorganized mess at this voting stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | November 5, 2024 8:35 PM |
I went in and someone came in behind me wearing a Kamala Harris t-shirt. They made him go turn it inside-out in the bathroom. I checked my voting status twice before going but I was listed as "deactivated" because I guess I didn't turn in my census last year. So I was reactivated and I voted the shit outta that ballot.
I live in MA.
Felt amazing.

Central New Jersey shore town...
Went at 7:15 this morning to the town municipal building. As I arrived two people were leaving. 10 people working at the poll. Two tables for each part of the town. One voter at the other table. Exchanged pleasantries with the people there, they took my name, signed in, took a ticket and long sheet to one of the booths, the attendant told me what to do, and I voted.
I voted the straight Democratic ticket. There were two seats up for the Town Council. Two Republicans ran unopposed for the seats. I am so disgusted with the Republican Party today that I could not bring myself to cast votes for men whose views on local matters would probably not differ much from any likely Democrat opponent. Instead, I wrote my name and a neighbor's name in.
A couple of people were arriving to vote as I left.
I was home by 7:35.

Because reasons, I crossed two state lines this morning to vote in the state where I'm registered, and then made the reverse trip. The actual voting was at a suburban elementary school and took 9 minutes.

I couldn’t find the fucking drop box last night.
It’s not a 24/7 hour service anymore. Because of the asshole who sets fires to drop boxes, I waited in line with all the in-person voters (five minutes max after the 8:30am start time).
I did not get my sticker. The stickers were at the end of the vote-in-person. I walked out believing I’m an adult who doesn’t even like stickers on my bananas. I kind of wish I’d picked up my sticker.

I hate both lines and crowds, so I make a point of voting when I'm least likely to encounter either – typically 2-3 days before early voting ends, and either mid-morning or mid-afternoon. There's almost never a line, plus I go to a location with two dozen voting booths. While I didn't have to wait, almost every other booth was occupied when I was there.
This is in Austin btw. We have touchscreens that print out paper ballots, and knowing the kinds of fuckery that happened the last two elections, I went over every line of my printed ballot before submitting it. Also, we shattered nearly every early-voting record just in the first 48 hours of it, so I figured it'd be quiet on Election Day, and it is. The local news crews report at 5pm & 6pm from City Hall, so that's where a lot of people go if only to show there's a fuckload of people in line, and as usual it's the only polling station with a wait of at least an hour.

My polling place is an elementary school and the "I Voted" stickers were designed by a child. They're adorable.
Some nice ones in this story.

Early voting is the BEST. I voted last week. Walked up, walked in, voted, and walked out.
No waiting. No lines. Used a QR code to sign-in and obtain my ballot.

by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 5, 2024 10:42 PM |
No, R40, it really depends on the specific place, time, etc. A friend of mine voted early last week sometime, in Manhattan on the Upper West Side, and said he had to wait for over an hour.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 5, 2024 10:47 PM |
Voting in person? Standing in a line with who knows what?
Can you imagine?
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 5, 2024 10:48 PM |
Not a long line UWS in Manhattan around 11:45AM, but after an hour wait to get up to the entrance, I gave up, as I had a work call to be on at 1PM. There was only 1 vote scanner for my Election District, we were told. Anyway, I just went back down and voted. No line outside, but it took 30 minutes to get checked in and be handed a ballot. The person checking people in was assisting people changing their addresses and such, while those waiting to just vote, like me, had to wait. No wonder there is a long wait. They can't tell people to do that shit online and move along? I used to pop in and out at this same polling place. Early voting next time for me. Lesson learned.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 5, 2024 10:55 PM |
I went after I finished work. I was done within 10 minutes - waited on one person to check in to get their ballot and waited on that same person at the scanning station to return my ballot. Everyone was laughing and happy, talking to one another and seemed in high spirits.

My county put temporary vote by mail return boxes at locations around the county. One of them happened to be in a large park about a mile from me. I did a nice circular route and dropped the ballot in the box and continued my walk. This was midday on Monday.

Here in the Castro, the polling place was more full than it has ever been in all my years living here. It was kind of chaotic and exciting for a change.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | November 5, 2024 11:32 PM |
I dropped my ballot in an official ballot box over a week ago.
I labored too long over some of the propositions and measures, gathering info to make my decisions. It took me a while, I kept putting it off.
When I got to the drop box a corner of a ballot was peaking out of the slot. Alarmed, I didn't want to touch it and feared the box was full. I gave it a shove with my own ballot and heard it plop close to the bottom of the box before dropping in my own.
I was surprised the voter didn't take more care while putting their ballot in the slot.

Illinois here, about 9am. OF COURSE, the computers were 'down' so the process became a lengthy ordeal of handwriting your personal ID information; having your signature double-checked; surprisingly, no one asked for a photo ID. Typical Illinois, always a fuck-up.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | November 6, 2024 12:15 AM |
R52: Illinois does not require photo ID to vote, simple as. In Chicago, voted at 7AM and there was already all booths filed and people waiting. We had 77 judges up for retention in Cook County, and that was bad. I overvoted on one just from going down filling out the bubbles. The American practice of electing EVERY FUCKING OFFICE WE CAN is bad and needs to stop. No one can keep track of all this.

R52 Just take a pass on voting for all the judges. I don't fill in any of the little circles for any choice if I don't think I have enough information to make an informed decision. In fact, my ballot was two-sided and I only filled out the President portion.
