Carpeting in bathrooms. Why?

With the mid century modern aesthetic making a comeback in recent years can anyone tell my why carpeting in the bathroom was ever a thing? It’s so gross and unsanitary.

I have carpeting in one of my bathrooms. What’s the big deal.

I never understood that either, makes me cringe just thinking about it.

It was for people who had underpaid staff and heated floors.

Carpeting was ALl the rage growing up

OP- Carpeting In Kitchens . Why?

by Anonymousreply 6November 4, 2024 8:34 PM

Carpeting in any room is disgusting period. If it can't be thoroughly cleanrd on a daily basis, it has no business being in the home, office, hotel, etc.

And it's a germ breeder.

And lo, the enemies of God's people carpeted their bathrooms and in their craven evil even put a shag cover on the toilet seat lid. - Jeremiah 4:20.

R8 My mom would put a shag rug style cover on the toilet lid. I hated it, as it would make the lid precariously close to falling while peeing , which it did a few times. It didn't make sense to me then, it makes even less sense low looking back. I guess it was the trend back in the 1970s-1980s.

I recall going to a neighborhood friends house and his bathroom even had a wall to wall carpet in the bathroom. How do they keep it clean and dry I asked. The mother told me they rug shampoo it every few months. She never explained the getting it dry part.

“ mid century modern aesthetic making a comeback in recent years ”

When did it leave? It’s been “back” for two decades.

by Anonymousreply 10November 4, 2024 8:55 PM

It's disgusting. Every once in a while there's backsplash when you urinate in the toilet. Imagine that hitting a rug. Then, you're going to get mildew buildup every time you step out of the shower.

Old people like it because they don't like the coldness of tile when they get of bed at night to relieve themselves

It was very unsanitary. What else is there to say. Many practices of yesterday are now considered disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 12November 4, 2024 9:13 PM

Carpeting is handy for wiping shit off of your hands and shoes though

by Anonymousreply 13November 4, 2024 9:35 PM

It is the cheapest floor covering there is, OP. That's the reason!

I’m sorry. Could I have paper bags?

Could you suck my pole?
