"Queer" on the cover of Variety

Daniel Craig is practically willing himself into the Oscar race

Movie has a mid 78% rotten tomato score

I like Starkey but he really must have gotten a hold of a monkey's paw to go from Outer Banks to here

And neither of them is queer. It's going to be a total shitshow when he campaigns – and ultimately wins – for this role. Like Redmayne winning for that trans role.

Monkey's paw found.

In that photo, Daniel Craig looks like homeless guy from Warsaw Poland who lucked out at Goodwill.

Daniel Craig is a decent actor, give him a chance.

by Anonymousreply 5November 4, 2024 8:16 PM

In real life Daniel Craig is an aging HOMO.

Starkey is hot but his high forehead sort of makes him look like Martin Short in that SNL synchronized swimming sketch.

Monkey's paw? More like blowing Luca

OP, are you even aware just how many A-list stars – including Oscar winners – got their start in far humbler spots? Julianne Moore was on "As the World Turns" for several years. (Seriously.) And while I know many DLers have encyclopedic knowledge of soaps, I've never seen Morgan Freeman mentioned, despite being on THREE of them! (One was "Ryan's Hope," and I forget the other two.)

Also, one of Brad Pitt's earliest roles was a brief himbo arc as Charlie Wade's high school bf on "Dallas" circa 1986.

[quote]And neither of them is queer.

Bad idea to assume these things. Neither of them is OPENLY queer, but how many actors now have come out after starring in a queer role? (Kit Connor comes to mind. Ditto Connor Jessup.) Also, Starkey's from straight-up redneck country in western NC, where all the MAGAts came out of the woodwork recently to bullshit that Biden & FEMA had "abandoned them." I can see why he wouldn't be out to them yet, plus he mentions in the article that his family could only watch "Queer" by covering their eyes during the COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF HEROIN & SEX, SILLY.

[quote]It's going to be a total shitshow when he campaigns – and ultimately wins – for this role.

Bullshit, and I'll quote the article itself about it: "Guadagnino eventually made stars of Chalamet and Armie Hammer, rather than casting established names. ('Well, it worked out,' Craig says of that film with a chuckle.) " Even openly queer actors largely oppose the idea of them having a "monopoly" on gay roles, in part because it often results in typecasting. (See, e.g. Matt Bomer.)

Except it is usually à propos something. Usually the actor is recognized as a standout on the show. Julianne Moore won a Daytime Emmy for As the World Turns.

My God you are stupid.

Fuck the disgusting word "queer."

It has no place in society.

by Anonymousreply 13November 5, 2024 1:27 AM

Daniel Craig's face is the stuff of nightmares.

by Anonymousreply 14November 5, 2024 1:46 AM

Daniel Craig is not straight.

R11 Guadagnino wouldn’t be interested in this guy if he was actually queer.

R13, allow me to introduce you to the concept of "reclaiming one-time slurs." Obviously there are still tons of anti-gay ones, but "queer" is no longer one of them, and we probably have "Queer as Folk" to thank for that more than the likes of Gen Z.

Also, "bitch" is used all-around nowadays, and rarely in the old-school misogynistic context.
