‘Monsters’- was anyone else shocked that Ryan Murphy chose to show the murder in such a graphic way?
I decided to start rewatching the series this weekend and I’m on episode 4, but can’t stop thinking about how GRAPHIC the murder scene was in this one.
They did an amazing job at showing where each bullet hit Jose and Kitty Menendez, but I was actually shocked by the choice to show it in such detail. It was incredibly violent. I actually found the choice shocking.
Cooper and Nicholas did a phenomenal job on this series. After this Lyle goes back to the car and load another bullet, goes back in and shoots another load into his mother.
Self defense my ass.

Shocked! Shocked that Ryan Murphy would make anything overly sensationalistic, camp and also homoerotic. Shocked!

Cooper Koch has the Emmy in the bag.

R1 we have but this was a true story. Not fictional characters. It feels disrespectful and exploitative to show the murders so graphically.
However, I also applaud him for showing where each bullet struck.

Yes. It was graphic and violent and I never went for the self defense thing. But IMO, not only were they very deliberate in committing the act, but in the weeks and days that followed the crime. First they fed the investigation's impression that the perps were gangsters connected to the recording industry or who had a beef with their father. Then, they partied and bought extravagant stuff once they had their hands on the estate, where it was clear their father never disinherited t hem. I hope they do not get released. They need to do their time.

Well what did you want him to do? I have the Easter Bunny shoot them so it looked a little more fun?

He could do what every other movie and show did, just show them shooting without showing the parents blowing up. Or show them walk into the room and then cut to after.

Episode 4 is the Lyle focused episode and the best of the season. Much better than Episode 5.

I thuoght it was important to show the graphic images. As people bloviate about whether or not they should get released or have a new t rial or whatever, yes, recreate what they did as closely as you can. Don't sanitize it, show it.

R3 I can see them both not cracking into the top 7 and not getting nominated. There are two of them so it can be easy for them to cancel each other out as far as votes go.
Variety doesn’t think either will crack the Top 6 at the Globes. They think Nicholas will place 8th and Cooper 9th. They predict Javier winning Supporting Actor. They place Chloe at 10 in the supporting actress category, so they think she is at the bottom of those most likely to get nominated.

Their parents were sick abusive assholes. They didn't deserve a dignified death depiction.

They could've been classy. Like they were in The Jayne Mansfield Story starring Loni Anderson.
