Iran-funded propaganda and the Gaza/Israel War.
I wonder how much of this gen Z support for Gaza is a direct result of Iranian propaganda on social media.
I am a bleeding heart liberal, and my heart breaks for liberals in Gaza who do not support Hamas.
I also think the Israeli Prime Minister is mostly looking out for himself. And we can argue all day about who is the bigger problem.
But what I don’t understand is the American response. Why are teenagers willing to go on hunger strikes in protest of Isreal…and why celebrities are falling in line…

I remember last year just before the attack on Israel, there was a crank up of pro-Palestine “protests” in DC, NYC. I remember thinking it was odd.
Where before it was one nut job on a bull horn. Suddenly there were large groups, blaring propaganda and pushing pamplets…the whole 9 yards. They were around Columbia and NYU the weeks BEFORE the attack.
And then a few weeks later came the attack. And people, including some fringe D list celebrities, were already prepared with slogans and visual aids, links to donate, etc…
And the next thing you know it spread to bigger celebrities and then of course across the college campuses etc.
The entire thing rolled out like a massive propaganda effort. Within a week of the attack, no one would even talk about the rapes and murders and the atrocities.
They would only talk about the citizens of Gaza and their hardships …

I don’t think the d list celebrities knew in advance that there was going to be an attack but the money was flowing heavily from Iran to the US just before the attacks.

So many people under fifty have been ignoring crazy email forwards from their Boomer relatives about conspiratorial fantasies involving Obama or the Clintons for years, if not decades at this point.
Stupidity is not specific to one generation. The fact that so many of our generational cohorts are idiots is probably what we have in common the most.

R14 I don’t really disagree but there was a terrorist attack. And I wonder why it’s as if that never happened.
Do you also feel bad for the babies who were killed and hostages taken?
I don’t think there has been enough detailed information coming out of the region from US media. Do they even do overseas anymore?

These amazing takes don’t give Palestinians / Muslims any agency in their own story.
You saw the footage of October 7th? You saw the videos of civilians running alongside the truck carrying the corpse of Shani Louk and spitting on her?
If Palestinians release the 100 hostages, including the two infants, and stop firing missiles into Israel on a daily basis then the war ends.

They shouldn’t be supporting Israel either. They are kids and should enjoying college and if they are going to protest, there is enough in America to protest right here.

Journalism has also been dreadful and shows excessive anti Israel bias.
A British film crew reporting from Israel and were nearly hit by a missile fired from Gaza, intercepted by the Iron Dome. The journalist reassured people they were okay and then blamed Israel for not giving the Iron Dome to Ukraine.

It's not really an "age old" conflict.
The "Jews vs the Muslims" issue is solely because of the creation of Israel and the mishandling of that creation in 1948 when the West/iThe Colonial Powers That Be decided that giving away already occupied land to the Jews was a good idea.
Jews and Muslims got along fine for hundreds of years.

R34 yeah, and I'm also well aware that Muslims and Jews lived together quite nicely (for the most part) until the end of the Ottoman Empire and once the British took over is when the shit storm started.
Despite the West's eternal belief that the Middle East has been a sad little dusty hell hole for centuries just waiting for the West to come along and save it, the reality is, the Arab/Muslim World was a powerhouse for centuries while Europe was a shitty little backwater.

R37 - did Europeans force the Arab Muslim world to expel their Jewish populations, the Jewish populations you claim lived peacefully alongside them for centuries?
Was that the fault of white people as well or do you afford them some agency in their own actions?
Although credit to you for acknowledging Jews lived in the region for centuries, if not thousands of years and simply "white colonisers".

R38 Well, apparently you need a history lesson...the great Jewish diasporas (Jews being kicked out of Palestine) happened pre-Islam and were instigated by Assyrians, Babylonians and Romans. The Sephardic Jews were the ones who settled in Spain where they lived and flourished for centuries until....the Christians took power and made life hell for them. The Sephardim then fled, mostly back to North Africa and throughout the Middle East where they lived in Muslim lands including Palestine though not in huge numbers; the Jews were very much a minority but that was the case most places. Again, the Jews in the Muslim World were certainly better off than the Ashkenazi Jews in Europe who lived in shtetls and ghettos and were mostly treated like shit by the Christians.
There's a reason why the Zionists wanted to go back to Palestine...to get away from the fucking Christians.

Ben Shapiro is blinkered when it comes to Russia/Ukraine in the same way that most "pro Palestinians" are blinkered when it comes to Iran.
Seeing pro Palestinians sharing photos and videos of dead Syrians and saying "LOOK WHAT ZIONISTS" did reveals a huge disconnect they can't square. Those images were widely shared a decade ago but no one marched, no one protested, no one cared because it was Arab Muslims killing Arab Muslims.

Wrong, it goes back hundreds of years at least within what is now Israel
[quote]Jews and Muslims got along fine for hundreds of years.
Nope, again there are documented pogroms committed by Muslims going back far further than the 1929 Hebron instance referenced by R34
[quote]It's the dumb Christians who stirred the pot and created this shit storm.
Certainly Christianity up until the modern age was every bit as toxic and antisemitic as Islam and even worse during the middle ages and the Crusades period. But it has mostly changed for the better, whereas most of Islam has worsened

Thank you r45. One quote from link, among others:
[quote]In advance of demonstrations, a memo allegedly written by an IRGC intelligence official, urged “significant support measures for April 15 and other rallies with the aim to achieve [Israel’s] political isolation."
The initials IRGC stand for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp.
But in addition to Iran's propaganda activity after 10/7, college campuses for decades have been steeped in anti-colonialism, which they apply to Israel for some reason. Also, BDS (boycott, divest, sanction) activism has been ongoing for decades on campus.
So campuses have been primed for 10/7 anti-Israel demonstrations by their education, by activism, and by financial & propaganda support from Iran. (All those identical tents.)
Plus, it's fun! Students can be with their friends, camp out, throw things, sing & chant, break into buildings, ditch class, feel righteous. What’s not to like? A common enemy is delicious.
And there's no exams, so you don’t really have to learn anything or question anything.
