Mud flung by crowds at King and PM of Spain in Valencia after flooding

Crowds in Valencia are furious that the government has done little to help them and that they actually made things worse by encouraging people to remain in their homes when floodwaters surged. And it's taken a full four days for King Felipe and Queen Letizia to visit.

I was watching it live on the BBC and it was most certainly not just mud they were throwing.

At one point it looked like he was in serious danger.

by Anonymousreply 1November 3, 2024 5:31 PM

The situtation is just out of control. Still no electricity in many parts. No food in the stores or elsewhere. Lots of rumors about looting. So much of the suburbs are covered in thick mud and more rain is coming.

by Anonymousreply 2November 3, 2024 5:35 PM

The Spaniards don't want no stinking tourists.

Mother Nature for the win.

by Anonymousreply 3November 3, 2024 5:46 PM

R3 Huh? The tourist areas weren't destroyed or really even damaged. The city center of Valencia is ok. It was the suburbs and working class areas that were destroyed.

by Anonymousreply 4November 3, 2024 6:15 PM

The Spanish people are suffering horribly due to a slow response from central government. The last thing they need is a visit from someone who would never have been affected. However well intentioned he may be, he should not have gone, the people are too angry with the authorities.

by Anonymousreply 5November 3, 2024 6:59 PM

Ted Cruz kinda royalty.

by Anonymousreply 7November 3, 2024 7:36 PM

Royals showing why they are needed yet again.

by Anonymousreply 8November 3, 2024 7:38 PM

Spain needs to suffer for treating tourists so badly.

by Anonymousreply 9November 3, 2024 7:42 PM

Felipe should be very careful. Recent history shows that the monarchy is merely tolerated by many Spaniards as a compromise solution after the brutal Franco era.

by Anonymousreply 10November 3, 2024 8:34 PM

I visited Barcelona in 1990. I remember when King Felipe was young and hot.

by Anonymousreply 11November 3, 2024 8:35 PM

Climate change. What are we doing about it? Whatta bunch of idiots.

by Anonymousreply 12November 3, 2024 8:37 PM

Twink Felipe.

Whether Spain meets a monarchy or not is an open question. Blaming a head of state with no power for the flood response is absurd. They may have waited to visit to avoid interfering with the recovery.

by Anonymousreply 14November 3, 2024 8:44 PM

Royalass apoligists are so predictable. Stick to rimming Charlie & Company R14

by Anonymousreply 15November 3, 2024 8:56 PM

R15. Morons are so predictable.

by Anonymousreply 16November 3, 2024 9:01 PM

Good

by Anonymousreply 17November 3, 2024 9:11 PM

R15 When you keep saying "royalass" what is it you're going for? Is it some kind of pun? It doesn't make much sense.

by Anonymousreply 18November 3, 2024 9:14 PM

No, it doesn't, R18.

by Anonymousreply 19November 3, 2024 9:38 PM

One of the comments in the video was from someone who was Spanish, who said the king is appreciated but Pedro Sánchez, the PM, is loathed.

by Anonymousreply 20November 3, 2024 9:39 PM

I think she means royalist, as in a supporter of monarchy.

by Anonymousreply 21November 3, 2024 9:40 PM

R21 If that's the case, it's not very good.

by Anonymousreply 22November 3, 2024 9:44 PM

People were furious because Felipe VI and that mummified tranny he married have NEVER done anything for anyone but themselves, and merely went to the devastated areas in a shameless act of self-promotion. This has happened in the wake of a greater scandal: Juan Carlos' former mistress Bárbara Rey has recently released all the conversations she secretly recorded while she was with him. In them, JC admits to commiting all sorts of financial crimes, working behind the scenes to manipulate political processes and most alarmingly, he confesses to her that he orchestrated the false coup attempt on the 23rd of February, 1981, so as to consolidate his position and get rid of then-president Adolfo Suárez. Moreover, Juan Carlos has been involved in several financial scandals in the last few years, not to mention that it's been revealed that he has a $2 billion personal fortune that he amassed through influence peddling, insider trading, tax evasion and receiving "payments" and "gifts" from several government institutions.

Thus, the fact that Felipe and the mummy have decided to go there now that the royal family's reputation has become even more sullied, looks extremely dishonest and opportunistic.

As for Pedro Sánchez, people hit him with a shovel, pelted him with stones and were chasing his car with sticks. He is utterly despicable and his management of the disaster has been incompetent at best, but we ought to remember that the ones who have mismanaged emergency protocols and underfunded basic services are those who control Valencia's local government, all of whom are members of the right wing Popular Party. Curiously enough, these people are hiding and pointing fingers at the central government in order to shift the blame for their own misdeeds.

by Anonymousreply 23November 3, 2024 9:57 PM

People were saying they were aiming for the president who was hiding behind their tall and sexy king. The government used them like puppets, something the British government would NEVER do to their royals.

Such a shame. But the king and queen stayed and faced the crowd. The PM dipped, I think the president remained as well.

by Anonymousreply 24November 3, 2024 10:33 PM

r23 you're wrong. The people really made at the King and Queen in this instance. The royal couple happen to be there with the leaders of government, which is what set the crowd off. They got caught the cross fire and emotions of the crowd. We know how hysterical Spanish people can be.

by Anonymousreply 25November 3, 2024 10:37 PM

Is it on the plain?

by Anonymousreply 26November 3, 2024 10:40 PM

Haven't they watched The Crown?

by Anonymousreply 27November 3, 2024 10:45 PM

Letizia was beautiful when they married but she's aging like a block of limburger left out in the summer sun for a week.

by Anonymousreply 28November 3, 2024 10:50 PM

No, I am not R25. Pedro Sánchez didn't go with the royal family; they went in separate commitives. The royal family are already quite unpopular, with Letizia being particularly disliked and most people seeing Felipe VI as a man who is as entitled as he is ineffectual. The reaction was so hostile because most people already detest them and are very much aware of their little publicity stunt. They were chanting 'murderers!' at the royal couple as they were pelting them with mud, for God's sake!

You petulant monarchists are downright embarrassing in your desperate attempts to justify anything done by anyone with an aristocratic or royal title.

Someone get my mother away from the computer. She's been drinking again.

by Anonymousreply 30November 3, 2024 11:14 PM

Letizia resembles Caitlyn Jenner.

by Anonymousreply 31November 3, 2024 11:30 PM

r3 Learn to read, dear

by Anonymousreply 32November 3, 2024 11:32 PM

But R29, do you consider the king hot? Would you suck him off? Tell the truth!

by Anonymousreply 33November 3, 2024 11:50 PM

Sad, because Felipe is actually a very decent guy with a strong sense of purpose and ethics, unlike his father. I'm sure he was greatly upset by the protests. His wife is a different story, unfortunately. She'll never gain the respect the her MIL Sofia gained, over the years with the Spanish people, after arriving in the country from Greece as a young woman.

by Anonymousreply 34November 3, 2024 11:53 PM

I always find it funny that the title of Queen Sofia's wikipedia page in Spanish is just Sofia of Greece (Sofía de Grecia) and Queen Letizia's page is just Letizia Ortiz. Which kind of shows that the Spanish royals aren't as beloved as many outsiders think.

Spainards often mock Felipe by calling him Felipe Borbon.

by Anonymousreply 38November 4, 2024 12:24 AM

I give Felipe and Letizia a lot of credit for going. That's what they are supposed to do. Did they immediately retreat? No. They endured the abuse and continued to offer the moral support they could.

Sanchez is the real focus of the people's ire.

The monarchy is not as unpopular as some here claim.

by Anonymousreply 39November 4, 2024 12:28 AM

Trust me. That wasn’t mud. It was dog shit.

by Anonymousreply 40November 4, 2024 12:48 AM

They remind me of Anne, the workhorse of the British Royal Family. People don't know it, but she's carried them through crises after crises.

Spainards are far less servile then you Brits .They've chucked out the Bourbons several times. Perhaps the bribery and corruption that forced Juan Carlos to abdicate coupled with the piss poor performance of his dullard son during the floods will result in the Spanish monarchy being dumped in the manure pile of history where it belongs. ¡Buena suerte a la mala basura!

by Anonymousreply 51November 4, 2024 4:13 AM

Why are the people protesting the king? The people should be protesting elected government officials if they're not getting help from the floods..

by Anonymousreply 52November 4, 2024 8:39 AM

Im Cuban with Spanish citizenship so I know Spaniards well, Spain is going through a period of high right wing activity with propaganda everywhere specifically in YouTube channels. These are all pro vox and this party is trying to saw chaos out of this opportunity for political gains. It does help that sanchez is not strong with inmigrantion either, the Spaniards are seeing how the government is basically distributing and settling African immigrants all over Spain in small towns and people are blaming sanchez for this.

This idiots should be blaming their local officials rather than Sanchez.

Mud will be flung tonight. On Atlantic Records and Tapes.

Rumoured to be gay. He used to go to gsy clubs when he was in college and has never fucked about outside if his marriage. Quite unlike his father who'd fuck the crack of dawn if he could His first act as king was to host an LGBT Group at the Palace.

by Anonymousreply 55November 4, 2024 11:12 PM

r55 do you really want us to believe that a 6'6 crown prince would slip into gay clubs?

by Anonymousreply 57November 5, 2024 3:33 AM

Please, Felipe loves pus*y, he nearly quit his role as heir over a couple of his unsuitable gfs, rowing violently with his parents over them and eventually Letizia, who won the ring.
