Finally! Patti Lupone Gets Called Out For Being A Cunt

It’s loooooooong overdue. Lupone has rarely seen consequences for her obnoxious, bilious bully behavior.

Unfortunately, it’s by someone equally as obnoxious, though in very different ways. Lewis wants to throw the race card and is very, very proud of herself. Smug, condescending, and arrogant — showing that the two have significantly more in common than this drama might suggest.

I’m so tired of than woke shit. If this is woke, I’m going back to bed.

Anyhow, as is always the case with Lupone, there’s drama. Patti, there’s legitimately nothing shameful about having bipolar disorder or narcissistic personality disorder. Or both. There IS something wrong of you choose not to manage it.

Patti has talent. Kecia has...a role.

by Anonymousreply 1November 3, 2024 1:54 PM

"so tired of than woke shit"

Oh, ok

by Anonymousreply 2November 3, 2024 1:56 PM

This belongs in the theatre thread, that seems to be nothing but complaining about woke this and woke that these days.

by Anonymousreply 3November 3, 2024 1:56 PM

Ooh ffs. If I’d paid for a ticket to The Roommate and had to hear sound bleed from another show, I’d be pissed too. There’s nothing race-based about it.

by Anonymousreply 4November 3, 2024 1:57 PM

I saw The Roommate in Sept and you CAN hear noise from next door—-noticeably. If Patti asked politely and the sound people made adjustments and then Patti and Mia sent flowers to thank them; what warranted this video which is doing nothing but causing needless drama? I hope Patti completely ignores this or it’s gonna get ugly.

by Anonymousreply 5November 3, 2024 1:58 PM

"racially microaggressive" = not a real issue

by Anonymousreply 6November 3, 2024 1:59 PM

"doing nothing but causing needless drama?"

In other words, actresses.

by Anonymousreply 7November 3, 2024 2:02 PM

I think that it would be up to the production side to reach out to the other show and ask them to make the adjustments. Why did it fall on LuPone?

by Anonymousreply 8November 3, 2024 2:07 PM

I watched Kecia’s video—the way she phrases everything in passive voice (e.g., “can be perceived as…”), suggesting that her opinion is the only opinion, is the definition of gaslighting.

Also, “open letters” are for clout chasers.

by Anonymousreply 9November 3, 2024 2:10 PM

What if it'd been a Black play? What if Leslie Uggams or Felicia Rashad had requested they keep it down? Would it still be a racially-motivated micro-crime?

by Anonymousreply 10November 3, 2024 2:12 PM

Phylicia, you fool.

by Anonymousreply 11November 3, 2024 2:13 PM

Audra McDonald just liked the post and commented with the applaud emoji.

She and LuPone have performed together and been friends for 25 years and then Audra likes a post that calls LuPone a racial micro aggressor, and bully?

With friends like Audra, LuPone doesn’t need enemies.

by Anonymousreply 12November 3, 2024 2:13 PM

I am a stupid stereotype.

by Anonymousreply 13November 3, 2024 2:20 PM

Oh FFS. Patti can be obnoxious but I completely understand why she did this. That would’ve been frustrating no matter what show was playing next door.

LuPone’s as liberal as they come. Does this woman really think she’s a racist?

by Anonymousreply 14November 3, 2024 2:20 PM

r4, it's called show BUSINESS.

by Anonymousreply 15November 3, 2024 2:21 PM

Any criticism of anything black is considered racist by many. Where have you been?

by Anonymousreply 16November 3, 2024 2:22 PM

I’m Cynthia Erivo and I approve this message.

by Anonymousreply 17November 3, 2024 2:25 PM

If only she had her own Gary.

by Anonymousreply 18November 3, 2024 2:30 PM

It's racist because I loves to SQUEEEEAAAAALLLLL on stage.

by Anonymousreply 19November 3, 2024 2:33 PM

LuPone had a complaint (well, when doesn't she?), acted on it, and when there was a solution she responded graciously. If we've reached the point flowers or good manners are a micro aggression, I guess it's every man for himself. This is trivial, petty and looking for a fight.

But all I want for Christmas is a Twitter war over this!

by Anonymousreply 20November 3, 2024 2:34 PM
Kecia Lewis

Who is this dark nobody?

by Anonymousreply 21November 3, 2024 2:38 PM
"These actions, in my opinion, are bullying. They're offensive. They're racially microaggressive. They're rude. They're rooted in privilege," she said. Explaining the concept of microaggressions, Lewis stated, "Referring to a predominantly Black Broadway show as loud can unintentionally reinforce harmful stereotypes, and it also feels dismissive of the artistry and the voices that are being celebrated on stage."

This letter was composed by the one and only Sunny Hostin.

That said, I do hope this gets a mention on 'The View' at some point. I know which side Sunny is taking.

by Anonymousreply 22November 3, 2024 2:42 PM

Datalounge is more racist than Stormfront these days

by Anonymousreply 23November 3, 2024 2:49 PM

Yeah, no.

by Anonymousreply 24November 3, 2024 3:05 PM

R12, don’t know where you got the impression that they are friends. They’re not.

by Anonymousreply 25November 3, 2024 3:44 PM

“You know where you can put your complaints? I’ll tell you where you can put them! Where the sun don’t shine…”

by Anonymousreply 26November 3, 2024 3:46 PM

OP, the title of your thread would be more accurate if it had read: " Cunt calls out Patti for being a professional."

by Anonymousreply 27November 3, 2024 3:52 PM

A professional asks the production and/or house staff to do it, R27.

by Anonymousreply 28November 3, 2024 4:27 PM

R28 - Perhaps she did, and nothing was done. So she took matters into her own hands, and there's nothing wrong with that. Or maybe she did ask the production / house staff and they told her they didn't want to get involved (like so many managers in every industry do these days for fear of a 'target on their back' going forward) and told her to do it herself. So she did.

Point is - we don't know how it lead to this, but it was she who approached the others, and by all accounts was very professional about it.

by Anonymousreply 29November 3, 2024 4:36 PM

Why haven't we discussed Cynthia's meltdown(The most offensive thing I've ever seen!) over the Wicked fan's modification of the Wicked movie poster to look like the Broadway poster? Which by the way is a much more interesting compelling one than that for the movie.

by Anonymousreply 30November 3, 2024 4:38 PM

R30. We did. There's a thread. Somewhere.

by Anonymousreply 31November 3, 2024 4:45 PM

Thanks, Kecia. You're actually making some of us think Patti isn't so bad after all.

by Anonymousreply 32November 3, 2024 4:46 PM
Finally! Patti Lupone Gets Called Out For Being A Cunt

Except, of course, that Lupone's actions are perfectly acceptable and reasonable.

If anyone is bullying, it's this Lewis person. You don't get to scream race as a get out of jail free card.

by Anonymousreply 33November 3, 2024 4:57 PM

I’m unconvinced it’s “acceptable” for an actor in a play to approach the team at another theatre to ask them to turn down the volume. That’s what a production team and a house staff is for,

The only reason this is a drama is because Patti thinks she is entitled to do so. Thus, giving Kecia the opportunity to claim victimhood. If Patti had followed the order of power and let the staff/team do it, Kecia would be focusing on missing more performances.

by Anonymousreply 34November 3, 2024 5:04 PM

OK, well whatever the particulars of the approach, the ask was not racist, aggressive or inappropriate.

by Anonymousreply 35November 3, 2024 5:08 PM

If the production wasn’t getting the situation fixed, I don’t blame Patti for jumping in.

It must be incredibly distracting to the actors in the Roommate.

by Anonymousreply 36November 3, 2024 5:16 PM

Maybe Patti (and Mia) thought the request would be more effective coming from them. And it was. And they sent thank you flowers. And, somehow, that all got twisted into feeling privileged and being aggressive. And now I want to buy tickets to The Roommate and support Patti.

by Anonymousreply 37November 3, 2024 5:21 PM

It's not nothing to turn La LuPone into the hero of the piece.

by Anonymousreply 38November 3, 2024 5:30 PM

Except the fact that Hell’s Kitchen IS too fucking loud

by Anonymousreply 39November 3, 2024 5:37 PM

Kecia strikes me that she’d be the first to complain of a show next door was too loud.

by Anonymousreply 40November 3, 2024 5:38 PM

Paul Wonterok of Broadway.com liked the post too. If I were Patti LuPone, I would never do another interview for Broadway.com that’s for sure.

by Anonymousreply 41November 3, 2024 6:01 PM

This is why it’s extremely unhelpful to post videos like this on social media; it’s just causing more division when others start taking sides.

/taking Patti’s side

by Anonymousreply 42November 3, 2024 6:24 PM

What Patti said was reasonable. Now this other person is clout chasing by accusing Patti, of course what else, racism. Ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 43November 3, 2024 6:29 PM

She’s trying to teach Lupone a lesson for daring to call out her show by playing the race card.

We live in troubled times where a legitimate grievance can be portrayed as literal violence. I can’t see how this is going to help anybody in the long run.

Broadway is probably the most inclusive major art form in the world at the moment.

by Anonymousreply 44November 3, 2024 6:31 PM

I remember when Kate Hepburn’s eleven o’clock number in Coco was being drowned out by construction next door during the matinees, so she sashayed over, donned a hard hat and went up into the beams to talk to the workers. She asked them to halt work at whatever time for however long and they gallantly acquiesced.

by Anonymousreply 45November 3, 2024 6:44 PM

I think it’s important to be empathetic because people who don’t have to worry about being on the receiving end of racism and bigotry can be so incredibly indifferent. It really is a privilege. But I’m not agreeing with this. There is an assumption being made and then all the comments under her post are responding as if it’s fact.

by Anonymousreply 46November 3, 2024 6:54 PM

Please - LuPone wouldn't even work up a sweat crushing this twit.

by Anonymousreply 47November 3, 2024 6:55 PM

When " racism" is the first response in situations such as this, you know that the accuser is in the wrong and has to rely on the only response that comes to mind.

by Anonymousreply 48November 3, 2024 7:00 PM

The Kecia post was hilarious for all the wrong reasons. Wokeness run rampant.

by Anonymousreply 49November 3, 2024 7:00 PM

[bold]"None of this is funny. None of this is cute. It degrades me. It degrades us. I am a real life human being, who chose to screech right down the barrel of the microphone at you, the ears of the world … because without rationality and grace we still communicate with our big mouths. To limit my voice and hide my decibility is to erase me. And that is deeply hurtful. I speak for all humankind who have been similarly silenced."[/bold]

by Anonymousreply 50November 3, 2024 7:07 PM

I'm sorry, but when Kecia started talking about microaggressions, I was out. I'm sick of that shit. Was Patti a little cunty? Yes. But microaggressions? Fuck off.

by Anonymousreply 51November 3, 2024 7:22 PM

Patti’s aggressions are NEVER micro.

by Anonymousreply 52November 3, 2024 7:29 PM

Probably so, but that wasn't one of them.

by Anonymousreply 53November 3, 2024 7:34 PM
I’m unconvinced it’s “acceptable” for an actor in a play to approach the team at another theatre to ask them to turn down the volume. That’s what a production team and a house staff is for,

Why ? A problem was at hand, and needed to be resolved sooner rather than later. Lupone addressed the problem, it was resolved, and furthermore - appreciated and acknowledged. What difference does it make who addressed the problem ?

by Anonymousreply 54November 3, 2024 7:59 PM
If I were Patti LuPone, I would never do another interview for Broadway.com that’s for sure.

That would show them never to disagree with you in any way, nor tolerate people who do!

by Anonymousreply 55November 3, 2024 8:01 PM

R55 would you if the host liked a post where you were called a racist, micro aggressive, bully?

Did you listen to Kecia’s video?

The comments are also trashing Patti horrifically (whether she deserves it is another matter?

by Anonymousreply 56November 3, 2024 8:15 PM

I like Kecia, but does anyone really think Patti would have behaved at all differently if the loud show next door was "The Whitey Whitest white people Follies of 1955 staring Laura Osnes and Chan Kimball?

She would not. If you want to interpret privilege into that equation, what is more privileged and bullying than your show being so loud it interrupts the neighboring theaters?

Patti is going to Patti no matter who is in her way .

by Anonymousreply 57November 3, 2024 8:48 PM

"I'll plow through.... and succeed.... like a bulldozer picking up speed... because everything's coming up Pa-tti."

by Anonymousreply 58November 3, 2024 8:50 PM

I fail to see exactly why Lupone did wrong. If I was in a quiet play that was being interrupted by a loud one next door, I’d do the same thing

by Anonymousreply 59November 3, 2024 10:07 PM

I've enjoyed the riff-ability of this latest tempest in a double-A cup, but the plain ignorance and self-righteous nastiness of calling race in the occasional area where it is NOT a legitimate, rational concern makes me question what I don't like to question. Grandeur-delusional aggression is not to be excused by personal experience of societal failures. Sure, MAGA lunatics, religionists and the rest are worse and white, and maybe there are racial aspects (I'm biracial.), but calling out racism requires a consideration of racism, and these dear divas keep offering camp catnip to boot.

by Anonymousreply 60November 3, 2024 10:26 PM

You guys don’t get it. Patti handled it badly from beginning to end. The mircroaggression, though, was a white woman dismissing a group of black women as “too loud.” Totally unnecessary. Microagressions are real and the perpetrator is rarely aware they are doing it. When these little things add up, it can be at best tiresome for black people, I say this as someone who thinks Cynthia Erivo was wrong about the Wicked poster fan art.

by Anonymousreply 61November 3, 2024 10:38 PM

Oh, we get it. We're just not having it. Because it's bullshit this time.

by Anonymousreply 62November 3, 2024 11:17 PM

Am I wrong? It wasn’t the ask that was the issue here. The ask was fine. The play responded. It seems that it was AFTER the problem was fixed, Lupone still referred to the production as that “loud musical next door.”

by Anonymousreply 63November 3, 2024 11:17 PM

Isn't it true it was LOUD? And was causing problems for the show next to it.

Some people cannot take any kind of criticism.

by Anonymousreply 64November 3, 2024 11:19 PM

There are just things you don’t do or say if you consider yourself an ally. You don’t refer to Jewish people as being stingy. You don’t refer to Mexican people as being lazy. You don’t refer to women as being emotional. You don’t refer to gay men as being dramatic. These are all things you don’t do in a larger picture. So being an ally you don’t refer to black women as being aggressive or mean, or black people as loud. Whereas technically in this case the performance was too loud, you choose other words, or you don’t comment on it publicly at all - especially when the issue has already been resolved. It’s not just about black issues. It’s not just a black issue. It’s about not feed the beast that actually targets minority groups.

by Anonymousreply 65November 3, 2024 11:25 PM

But when did she say it? Before or after the problem was resolved? And school me on why it's wrong for LuPone to either voice a legitimate complaint or even nurse a grudge if she wants to, but it's completed cool after the problem was resolved to post a video calling her racist? LuPone doesn't suffer anything gladly. Part of the cost of admission. But it doesn't make her racist and it's pretty bad to twist this into justification for doing so.

by Anonymousreply 66November 3, 2024 11:25 PM

So LuPone is wrong for offering mild criticism of a show that was clearly in the wrong but Lewis is okay for trying to destroy LuPone's reputation by implying she's a racist?

by Anonymousreply 67November 3, 2024 11:31 PM

Who the fuck gets offended by a "thank you" and flowers?

by Anonymousreply 68November 3, 2024 11:35 PM

Somebody better tell that chick she ain't starring in Wicked.

by Anonymousreply 69November 3, 2024 11:36 PM
I remember when Kate Hepburn’s eleven o’clock number in Coco was being drowned out by construction next door during the matinees, so she sashayed over, donned a hard hat and went up into the beams to talk to the workers.

There isn't any theater being performed at eleven o'clock.

by Anonymousreply 70November 3, 2024 11:41 PM

R70. Definition of 11 o'clock number.

An 11 o'clock number is a big, dramatic song that occurs late in the second act of a musical. It's often a show-stopping moment where a major character, usually the protagonist, has an important realization. The term comes from the fact that these songs would often occur around 11 PM when musicals started at 8:30 PM

by Anonymousreply 71November 3, 2024 11:46 PM

Well, that gotcha turned into a lethal boomerang.

by Anonymousreply 72November 3, 2024 11:50 PM

Oooh Kecia girl, Your Arms Too Short To Box With Patti!

by Anonymousreply 73November 4, 2024 12:22 AM
Microagressions...the perpetrator is rarely aware they are doing it.

People getting worked up over microaggressions when they know that the 'perp' has no ill intent remind me of pro Palestinian protesters going to Kamala rallies only. It's cowardly, t's very silly and it's a self own. There are many raging racists out there. Trump assembles arenas of them twice a day. The evangelical church is riddled with white nationalists. These people are the 'enemy', not Patti Flipping LuPone. I dare anyone micro aggrieved over Patti to go the belly of the beast and challenge a real racist who is openly aggressive.

What ever happened to saying 'hey that stung a little, I know you had no ill intent but let me explain why' There's a 99.9% chance that an apology will be given and all ends well. Nobody is publicly labelled a racist and nobody has to carry around the self inflicted victimhood of micro aggressions.

by Anonymousreply 74November 4, 2024 12:30 AM

If I hear a new acquaintance thinks PATTI LUPONE IS A CUNT, I view it as a valuable timesaver. I never waste my time on that person again.

by Anonymousreply 75November 4, 2024 12:34 AM

R54, there’s a protocol, a line of approach. Patti is a blowhard, let tre house managers duke it out.

by Anonymousreply 76November 4, 2024 12:39 AM
OP, the title of your thread would be more accurate if it had read: "Cunt calls out Patti for being a cunt."

FIFY

by Anonymousreply 77November 4, 2024 12:41 AM

Patti LuPone doesn't really do small, is she even capable of a micro-aggression?

by Anonymousreply 78November 4, 2024 12:54 AM

I have seen "The Roommate." I would have loved some noise to wake me up from that snoozfest.

by Anonymousreply 79November 4, 2024 1:04 AM

R79 - Alicia Keys

by Anonymousreply 80November 4, 2024 1:07 AM

Patti should respond by singing Kate Smith’s “Little Pickaninnies”

by Anonymousreply 81November 4, 2024 1:08 AM

THIS CUNT IS ON FIRE!!!

by Anonymousreply 82November 4, 2024 1:11 AM

Patti LuPone is an ugly asshole.

by Anonymousreply 83November 4, 2024 1:18 AM

If you're on Instagram checkout the statement the producers of THE ROOMMATE just made on the shows account. Sorry, I don't know how to link it.

by Anonymousreply 84November 4, 2024 1:20 AM

Transcribed from Instagram:

“We are grateful to everyone at ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ for adjusting their cues to prevent sound bleed into our theater, which was affecting backstage, onstage and into the audience. On Broadway, these historic buildings were built long before the existence of modern amplification and sit side by side, playhouses sharing walls with musical houses. These kinds of sound accommodations from one show to another are not unusual and are always deeply appreciated. We’re proud to share Shubert Alley with ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ and wish our neighbors continued success.”

by Anonymousreply 85November 4, 2024 1:38 AM

This all started because Patti wouldn't sign a Hell's Kitchen playbill. So dumb. There's video of Patti complaining about Hell's Kitchen being loud and she comes across very rude imo. I think Patti is the clout chaser.

by Anonymousreply 86November 4, 2024 1:47 AM
Patti should respond by singing Kate Smith’s “Little Pickaninnies”

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 87November 4, 2024 1:56 AM

I can't stand Patti Lupone, but I can't stand people who play the race card much more.

by Anonymousreply 88November 4, 2024 2:05 AM

Please, people who have seen HK have been saying that the music is ear-splitting and they can’t hear the lyrics over the orchestra.

She was stating a fact.

by Anonymousreply 89November 4, 2024 2:06 AM

I wonder how LuPone will respond. It’s kind of a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation. If she says nothing, just lets the produces issue statements, she’ll be criticised for her silence. Yet she’ll probably also catch flak from Lewis and supporters for any response that defends her decision. And Patti’s not the type to acquiesce.

by Anonymousreply 90November 4, 2024 2:14 AM

If I were Patti I would let the producers statement stand as the only comment. Anything she says or writes will be used against her, people are looking for a fight.

by Anonymousreply 91November 4, 2024 2:23 AM

As pointed out earlier - if it were two black actresses in 'Roomate' - say Viola Davis and Whoopi Goldberg - and one of them carried on like Lupone did, would this be an issue with Kecia Lewis ?

by Anonymousreply 92November 4, 2024 2:38 AM

Too bad this didn't happen before Patti Lupone was on 'The View' this past Friday. I would have loved to see Sunny bring this up, passively / aggressively let Lupone know she was on Lewis' side, and wait for a response from Lupone.

by Anonymousreply 93November 4, 2024 2:40 AM
I wonder how LuPone will respond. It’s kind of a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation. If she says nothing, just lets the produces issue statements, she’ll be criticised for her silence.

But a becoming silence is the only way forward!

by Anonymousreply 94November 4, 2024 2:58 AM
If I were Patti I would let the producers statement stand as the only comment. Anything she says or writes will be used against her, people are looking for a fight.

R91 - 100% agreed, though, I wouldn't blame her for wanting to speak out. Multiple things can be true. Patti can sometimes be a cunt, members of communities who have traditionally held more power can say something with good intent that is interpreted as a/an (micro)aggression by those receiving the message, century's old theatres can have very thin walls that are not designed to handle 2024 amplification.

I'm not going to police how a member of a minority community (of which I am not a member) decides to respond to a perceived microagression, but, I do get the impression that Kecia has been dealing with a lifetime of microagressions (and, I'm sure, more overt racism) and Patti's action, however innocuous or well intentioned it may be in my eyes, may have been the straw that broke the camel's back for Kecia.

I don't think it's fair that a minority community that has added so MUCH to the culture continue to be subjected to this kind of stuff, but I ALSO don't think it's fair that Patti get this giant pile on.

by Anonymousreply 95November 4, 2024 3:25 AM

R95 Do you believe black people should be treated as equal to every other race of people? I believe they should. I believe if a white person has a conflict with a black person the white person should be able to speak up about it respectfully and should get reciprocal respect back in trying to resolve the issue, without being called out for a “perceived micro aggression.” This isn’t equality, this is being asked for special treatment because of your race. This is just my opinion, of course.

What an original take, r98. They should hire you to write a NYT column.

by Anonymousreply 99November 4, 2024 6:04 AM

I have a feeling LuPone will indeed talk about this incident. Not right now, and probably not through December 15 (the last day of 'Roommate') but she will talk about this in a very dismissive way - next time she returns to Andy Cohen's show. Wait and see.

by Anonymousreply 100November 4, 2024 1:01 PM

Yes... it will be roiling inside her until it erupts, like a volcano. Patti never does anything by halves, especially when it involves somebody doing her wrong.

by Anonymousreply 101November 4, 2024 1:17 PM

The producers not even acknowledging Kecia in their statement just screams FUCK OFF.

by Anonymousreply 102November 4, 2024 4:55 PM

Why would Patti talk about it?

This is nonsense roiling in one person’s head.

Carrying a broadway show takes its toll so, being generous, Kecia is feeling the pressure (and the election angst) and is acting out. She’s apparently great in the role and deserves every success.

Hope the temp goes down.

by Anonymousreply 103November 5, 2024 3:02 AM

"reciprocal respect back"

R7 oh dear...(And you know what they say about opinions)

by Anonymousreply 104November 5, 2024 4:26 AM

Has anyone checked on Kecia? Is she still alive?

by Anonymousreply 105November 5, 2024 4:40 AM

Kecia has spoken her truth! Do not make her speak it again!

by Anonymousreply 106November 5, 2024 9:50 AM

"Hello and goodbye. I've just unemployed you. Don't act sad or surprised. Let's be friends, civilized."

by Anonymousreply 107November 5, 2024 11:07 AM
She’s apparently great in the role and deserves every success.

You've identified what I hate about this bullshit.. She's had this big success in the role, and now it has this asterisk around it because she inserted herself in and made public a drama that nobody has to pay to see and threatens to usurp the impression she made in the part.

She overshot with her thinking on this and would do herself a service by cooperating in whatever strategy of making it go away as quickly as possible.

by Anonymousreply 108November 5, 2024 1:14 PM

Can we shut up about this and refocus on me? I feel I'm being erased!
