Finally! Patti Lupone Gets Called Out For Being A Cunt
It’s loooooooong overdue. Lupone has rarely seen consequences for her obnoxious, bilious bully behavior.
Unfortunately, it’s by someone equally as obnoxious, though in very different ways. Lewis wants to throw the race card and is very, very proud of herself. Smug, condescending, and arrogant — showing that the two have significantly more in common than this drama might suggest.
I’m so tired of than woke shit. If this is woke, I’m going back to bed.
Anyhow, as is always the case with Lupone, there’s drama. Patti, there’s legitimately nothing shameful about having bipolar disorder or narcissistic personality disorder. Or both. There IS something wrong of you choose not to manage it.

I saw The Roommate in Sept and you CAN hear noise from next door—-noticeably. If Patti asked politely and the sound people made adjustments and then Patti and Mia sent flowers to thank them; what warranted this video which is doing nothing but causing needless drama? I hope Patti completely ignores this or it’s gonna get ugly.

I think that it would be up to the production side to reach out to the other show and ask them to make the adjustments. Why did it fall on LuPone?

I watched Kecia’s video—the way she phrases everything in passive voice (e.g., “can be perceived as…”), suggesting that her opinion is the only opinion, is the definition of gaslighting.
Also, “open letters” are for clout chasers.

Audra McDonald just liked the post and commented with the applaud emoji.
She and LuPone have performed together and been friends for 25 years and then Audra likes a post that calls LuPone a racial micro aggressor, and bully?
With friends like Audra, LuPone doesn’t need enemies.

LuPone had a complaint (well, when doesn't she?), acted on it, and when there was a solution she responded graciously. If we've reached the point flowers or good manners are a micro aggression, I guess it's every man for himself. This is trivial, petty and looking for a fight.

[quote]"These actions, in my opinion, are bullying. They're offensive. They're racially microaggressive. They're rude. They're rooted in privilege," she said. Explaining the concept of microaggressions, Lewis stated, "Referring to a predominantly Black Broadway show as loud can unintentionally reinforce harmful stereotypes, and it also feels dismissive of the artistry and the voices that are being celebrated on stage."
This letter was composed by the one and only Sunny Hostin.
That said, I do hope this gets a mention on 'The View' at some point. I know which side Sunny is taking.

A professional asks the production and/or house staff to do it, R27.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 3, 2024 4:27 PM

R28 - Perhaps she did, and nothing was done. So she took matters into her own hands, and there's nothing wrong with that. Or maybe she did ask the production / house staff and they told her they didn't want to get involved (like so many managers in every industry do these days for fear of a 'target on their back' going forward) and told her to do it herself. So she did.
Point is - we don't know how it lead to this, but it was she who approached the others, and by all accounts was very professional about it.

I’m unconvinced it’s “acceptable” for an actor in a play to approach the team at another theatre to ask them to turn down the volume. That’s what a production team and a house staff is for,
The only reason this is a drama is because Patti thinks she is entitled to do so. Thus, giving Kecia the opportunity to claim victimhood. If Patti had followed the order of power and let the staff/team do it, Kecia would be focusing on missing more performances.

I've enjoyed the riff-ability of this latest tempest in a double-A cup, but the plain ignorance and self-righteous nastiness of calling race in the occasional area where it is NOT a legitimate, rational concern makes me question what I don't like to question. Grandeur-delusional aggression is not to be excused by personal experience of societal failures. Sure, MAGA lunatics, religionists and the rest are worse and white, and maybe there are racial aspects (I'm biracial.), but calling out racism requires a consideration of racism, and these dear divas keep offering camp catnip to boot.

You guys don’t get it. Patti handled it badly from beginning to end. The mircroaggression, though, was a white woman dismissing a group of black women as “too loud.” Totally unnecessary. Microagressions are real and the perpetrator is rarely aware they are doing it. When these little things add up, it can be at best tiresome for black people, I say this as someone who thinks Cynthia Erivo was wrong about the Wicked poster fan art.

There are just things you don’t do or say if you consider yourself an ally. You don’t refer to Jewish people as being stingy. You don’t refer to Mexican people as being lazy. You don’t refer to women as being emotional. You don’t refer to gay men as being dramatic. These are all things you don’t do in a larger picture. So being an ally you don’t refer to black women as being aggressive or mean, or black people as loud. Whereas technically in this case the performance was too loud, you choose other words, or you don’t comment on it publicly at all - especially when the issue has already been resolved. It’s not just about black issues. It’s not just a black issue. It’s about not feed the beast that actually targets minority groups.

But when did she say it? Before or after the problem was resolved? And school me on why it's wrong for LuPone to either voice a legitimate complaint or even nurse a grudge if she wants to, but it's completed cool after the problem was resolved to post a video calling her racist? LuPone doesn't suffer anything gladly. Part of the cost of admission. But it doesn't make her racist and it's pretty bad to twist this into justification for doing so.

R70. Definition of 11 o'clock number.
An 11 o'clock number is a big, dramatic song that occurs late in the second act of a musical. It's often a show-stopping moment where a major character, usually the protagonist, has an important realization. The term comes from the fact that these songs would often occur around 11 PM when musicals started at 8:30 PM

What ever happened to saying 'hey that stung a little, I know you had no ill intent but let me explain why' There's a 99.9% chance that an apology will be given and all ends well. Nobody is publicly labelled a racist and nobody has to carry around the self inflicted victimhood of micro aggressions.

R91 - 100% agreed, though, I wouldn't blame her for wanting to speak out. Multiple things can be true. Patti can sometimes be a cunt, members of communities who have traditionally held more power can say something with good intent that is interpreted as a/an (micro)aggression by those receiving the message, century's old theatres can have very thin walls that are not designed to handle 2024 amplification.
I'm not going to police how a member of a minority community (of which I am not a member) decides to respond to a perceived microagression, but, I do get the impression that Kecia has been dealing with a lifetime of microagressions (and, I'm sure, more overt racism) and Patti's action, however innocuous or well intentioned it may be in my eyes, may have been the straw that broke the camel's back for Kecia.
I don't think it's fair that a minority community that has added so MUCH to the culture continue to be subjected to this kind of stuff, but I ALSO don't think it's fair that Patti get this giant pile on.

R95 Do you believe black people should be treated as equal to every other race of people? I believe they should. I believe if a white person has a conflict with a black person the white person should be able to speak up about it respectfully and should get reciprocal respect back in trying to resolve the issue, without being called out for a “perceived micro aggression.” This isn’t equality, this is being asked for special treatment because of your race. This is just my opinion, of course.

[quote] She’s apparently great in the role and deserves every success.
You've identified what I hate about this bullshit.. She's had this big success in the role, and now it has this asterisk around it because she inserted herself in and made public a drama that nobody has to pay to see and threatens to usurp the impression she made in the part.
She overshot with her thinking on this and would do herself a service by cooperating in whatever strategy of making it go away as quickly as possible.

I can't hear R113. The noise from that shuck and jive show next door is too loud. All that tap dancing and rap music.
