So many injuries and stabbings occur because it’s easy to stick a knife in someone.
What’s the point of the sharp tip? Of it’s rounded, like in a butter knife, it would be harder to hurt someone

Well?

I agree with you OP. I think it is there to stab and pick up a piece of meat, move it around, etc. It's the only reason I can come up with.

Maybe hunters invented them.

I love that you are pondering this on a lovely fall Saturday. Now I'm thinking about it, too.

How else are you going to take care of that bothersome young woman distracting that fool Norman with her candles and whispers?

You can open up a tofu container.

Watch any professional chef demonstrate proper knife skills and you'll see why the curve and point lend to quicker and more precise work.

I you use the point on my knife to open up those pesky packages that cheese blocks are packaged in.

R8 - you could use scissors?
I hadn't thought about it OP - but you're right.

OP is asking for saws and we would have to go back to hat pins for stabbings.

Guns with safety mechanisms are still considered dangerous weapons. Even if knives didn't have pointed blade tips they would still be able to cut and be used to harm someone due to being sharp.

Are you British OP?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 3, 2024 6:54 PM |
So what's the point?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 4, 2024 7:20 PM |
I need them to kill and then slice up my victims

As someone who survived being stabbed during a gay bashing I've wondered this myself. Why do we keep sharp stabby things readily available in our homes? It seems unwise.
It may be a bit paranoid, but I don't have any sharp pointed knives in my apartment, and I have one pair of scissors that I keep hidden, just in case someone breaks in and tries to stab me again.

R15 I feel for you. Trauma is no laughing matter or a walk in the park.

you can't afford the tax increase you'd face

You can also get killed with scissors, knitting needles, exacto knives, gardening shears, trowels, shovels, ice picks....
by Anonymous | reply 19 | November 5, 2024 8:41 PM |
The point is to kill. Knives are weapons, not just tools.

R17: Thanks. It's kinda bizarre, I was always an extremely timid kid, just absolutely terrified of interacting with strangers. It turns out I had good reason. I sometimes wonder if I knew as a kid what life had in store for me.
But I'm still here, so I guess I'm resilient, if a bit jumpy.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. x
