Crummy Movies You Watch Anyway

There are times I don’t want to think or be challenged by a movie. Today it’s Gone Girl.

Bright lights… big city

When I want to turn my brain off I watch something from the "broke middle class people doing illegal things collection". Fun With Dick & Jane (the original) or How to Beat the High Cost of Living. Plus, I like the comfort of 1970s suburbia.

Corrina, Corrina

Less than Zero

Ash Wednesday (the old Liz Taylor)

Mommie Dearest of course

by Anonymousreply 4November 2, 2024 8:15 PM

For years, the movie The Banger Sisters was that film for me!!

by Anonymousreply 5November 2, 2024 8:27 PM

Crash

by Anonymousreply 6November 2, 2024 8:29 PM

Twister or some random Jason Statham movie. I wanna do unspeakable things to him before he gets too ripe.

by Anonymousreply 7November 2, 2024 9:18 PM

OP, Gone Girl is a great movie. It even got a Best Picture Oscar Nomination.

by Anonymousreply 8November 2, 2024 9:28 PM

R8- Agreed--

The Banger Sisters IS crummy.

I was going to correct the OP, but I was not feeling cunty enough!

Best Performance by a Prosthetic Penis That Almost Broke the Internet -- Gone Girl

by Anonymousreply 10November 2, 2024 9:33 PM

I watch teen rom coms - 10 Things I Hate About You, Clueless, She's All That, and the like.

by Anonymousreply 11November 2, 2024 9:40 PM

I watched half of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle last night. Nick Jonas had just entered the picture, so I'll probably watch the second half at some point. The movie is crummy.

by Anonymousreply 12November 2, 2024 10:39 PM

R8. No, it didn’t. Pike, yes; pic, no.

You’re not helping

Crossroads

by Anonymousreply 14November 3, 2024 1:33 AM

I don't watch films, crummy or otherwise. Waste of time.

by Anonymousreply 15November 3, 2024 1:58 AM

But I never miss a chance to be sanctimonious about them!

by Anonymousreply 16November 3, 2024 2:21 AM

The Scary Movie franchise.

by Anonymousreply 17November 3, 2024 2:27 AM

“The Initiation Of Sarah”

by Anonymousreply 18November 3, 2024 2:58 AM

Miss Congeniality, mostly because of Michael Caine.

by Anonymousreply 19November 3, 2024 3:08 AM

Supergirl. So bad but it has Faye!

by Anonymousreply 20November 3, 2024 3:13 AM

R4, I would not call Less Than Zero a crummy movie.

I watch a lot of sleazy, trashy and just downright weird movies, but I'm fascinated by grindhouse/arthouse crossover and the development of the horror genre. I don't think of them as crummy, per se. As I would interpret it, a crummy film is indifferently made and ugly to look at.

by Anonymousreply 21November 3, 2024 3:18 AM

OP, Gone Girl wasn't horrible. I thought Rosamund Pike deserved the oscar.

by Anonymousreply 22November 3, 2024 3:23 AM

St. Elmo’s Fire. Bad movie filled with underwritten stereotypes. But, I’m nearly the same age as the actors, it’s fun to see them young, and it takes me back to that time in my “life on the edge.” Yeah, right… The wretched dialogue is so quotable:

Sheedy and Nelson’s “you fucked many” scene

Nelson, to Sheedy, while rescuing Moore: “did you invite ALL your lovers?"

Mare Winningham’s peanut butter and jelly monologue

by Anonymousreply 23November 3, 2024 3:45 AM

Forrest Gump

by Anonymousreply 24November 3, 2024 9:10 PM

R23 You forgot “NO Springsteen is leaving this house!”

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

…acknowledged as the worst of all Trek films (at least with the original crew), but it will come on in the afternoon on weekends while I’m cleaning the floors and I don’t have the heart to change the TV to something else to leave running in the background. The score/soundtrack was actually pretty good.

by Anonymousreply 28November 4, 2024 10:20 PM

"The 13th Warrior," with Antonio Banderas and a bunch of Vikings in a vague retelling of Beowulf. In the same vein, "King Arthur" with Clive Owen.

by Anonymousreply 29November 5, 2024 2:16 AM

R29 Me too! I loved them both.

Not the first one?
