Bill Maher Defends Trump's Firing Squad Speech
“I don’t like Donald Trump. Don’t lie to me [media] and tell me he wants her [Liz Cheney] in front of a firing squad.”
“He’s criticizing her for being a war hawk. I mean, she is Dick Cheney’s daughter. He said, ‘She’s a radical war hawk. Let’s put her with a rifle, standing there with nine barrels shooting at her. Okay? Let’s see how she feels about it.’”
“He was saying something that, by the way... sounds like what hippies used to say about not sending people to die.”

If you pick apart exactly what Trump said, it was a hypothetical in the context of combat but it was still a hypothetical of extremely violent content. On another aspect of his comment, have any Trumps ever served in the military, much less in combat?

What Bill and his small mind fail to realize is Trump only said that because Liz Cheney is his political enemy who had the temerity to stand up to him and his minions when Trump tried to wipe his fat, white, entitled shit encrusted ass with the US Constitution.
To pretend that Trump is some kind of pacifist hell bent on ending all wars is absolute nonsense. To be sure, if there is enough money in it for him, Donald Trump will go to war with anyone in a nano-second. Just look at the way the Trump kkklan profited off the sale of medical equipment during COVID.
Time for Maher to call it a day and slither under the nearest rock.

I might agree if this was the first and only instance of him threatening death to one of his political enemies but it's far from the first occurrence. Doesn't anybody remember his second amendment Hillary comment. Or you know that time that he unleashed a mob on the capitol to murder the entire Congress and his own vice president. So Bill Maher and anybody else saying this is being taken out of context can f*** off.

Most people understand the broader context of Trump’s comment. I’m just glad the Democrats don’t give a fuck about context and are giving the Trumpers a taste of their own medicine.
Why do the Democrats need to add context to every statement when the Republicans never need to?

He is correct. When you edit a clip to fit your narrative it diminishes and dilutes his threats when the full quote/clip is shown. If the media had just shown the whole clip and dissected his actual words vs his intent, it may have had more of a truthful and precautionary impact. Now it looks like another misquote attack on Trump.
The media gave rise to this monster, and he continues to flourish because both sides of the media continue to feed him whether intentional or not.

Maher is being willfully obtuse here. Trump will often use scenarios to belittle or wish harm on women.
Remember when Megyn Kelly didn’t take off her pumps, get on hands and knees, crawl over to Trump and duck his penis to orgasm during their interview? He used his “bleeding” put down, nominally to say she was angry, but really to say “just another irrational cunt on her period.”

Once you start lying about your opponent you’re giving them the upper hand. Trump was not threatening Cheney. The entire conversation was about her and her father being warhawks. They couldn’t care less about service men and women having guns pointed at them on the battlefield. They have never had to face the wars the Cheneys voted for and waged, thus the comment about Liz. She couldn’t face the battlefield. Kamala’s people are doing her a disservice with this. It’s where it does becomes “both sides” about the parties lying for votes. You’re only helping Trump and you’re reminding people that Democrats are now in bed with the Cheneys and the Bushes who are responsible for the Iraq war and 9/11.

It’s called the Overton Window, r33, and it has moved so much that Bill looks relatively conservative compared to those he claims are infected with the “woke mind virus”. I feel much the same as Bill: middle-aged, white, male, imbued with liberal sensibilities back in the day when it was just about hippies and Vietnam. He’s enjoyed watching marijuana become legal whereas for me it was LGBTQ rights. We learned to appreciate the strength of diversity from our own experiences on opposite coasts, exposed to different cultures and ideas.
Who knew that it would all turn out this way: personal liberties enjoyed by so many to such an extreme that many others “feel” belittled, shamed and yes, even threatened.
He’s been saying for awhile now, “The Left left me!” But yet we’re still here opposing the Republicans, Trumpers and other idiots that we (mostly civilly) disagree with.

The Pussygrabber and his sycophants proudly claim that he is the only President tk NOT start a war. This is true. But only because he doesn’t have the guts to do so.
He pulls at the levers of power only for his own personal aggrandizement. No matter how much he disrespects the service of those in our military, he is not man enough to send them to battle because he can’t fathom the responsibility, or even THAT act of courage, as President.

R48, Donald Trump is a purely transactional animal. If a war would benefit Trump financially in some way, he'd have no problem getting involved and keeping it going as long as it was putting money in his pocket.
As long as he ain't fighting it, Donald Trump has no problem with war.

r46, More than 90 percent of the media is controlled by George Soros. Kidding! No, it's 6 billionaire funded conglomerates. Many of these conglomerates have progressive employees who are sometimes permitted to share their interpretation of observable facts while adhere to strict editorial control, even Maddow.
When Mehdi Hasan was let go from MSNBC after the attack on Israel, none of the progressives said a word.

All of you Trumpsters on here who want to pretend Trump is some benevolent peacemaker, consider this: If Trump were operating his businesses in Germany during WWII, you can rest assured he would have taken advantage of free slave/forced labor provided by Nazis, just like Krupp, Farben, BMW, Daimler, BASF, etc., etc.
Scruples and morality are something unknown to Trump. If fact, he thinks these things are a sign of weakness and femininity.

I despise Bill Maher. I think he's right. But I think he's wrong to waste his time and ours defending anything Trump says. All three things are true.
Does it really matter whether Trump meant this one particular thing the way it sounds? No, it doesn't. Trump gets away with saying things that are just as bad all the time, and he gets away with deliberately misconstruing other peoples' words. It's not worth the trouble to "clarify" things on behalf of a man who's a metastatic malignancy on America. It doesn't hurt anything for him to be on the receiving end of that once in a while.
