The Spanish Gardener
Such a simple but rather well told story. They don’t make films like this anymore, I guarantee if they did it would be nominated for best picture these days because the bar is pretty low anyway.
Dirk Bogarde plays a Spanish gardener who becomes the hero of a young boy - much to the envy of the boy’s closeted father. Pretty ahead of its time for 1956.
The film would make a perfect companion piece to The Greengage Summer.

The movie is kind of like The Man Without A Face - it took out all the pervy sex.

Glad to see I'm not alone here in my enjoyment of the film, as I don't recall " The Spanish Gardener" being discussed on DL.
Thanks OP.

I’d love for recommendations for other movies that have a similar vibe. Jude good old storytelling told in a simple but nice way. Bring on the nostalgia… as I said, Greengage Summer was in some ways similar in style for me.
