I'll have what Jake's having, dermatologically speaking.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 31, 2024 12:38 PM |
Jake's eyes freak me out.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 31, 2024 12:50 PM |
Oh they had that one song, can't remember it...
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 31, 2024 1:13 PM |
The only song of theirs I like was where Ana sang lead. Pass.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 31, 2024 1:16 PM |
Why did Ana Matronic leave the group?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 31, 2024 1:18 PM |
I think they're a bit optimistic playing the O2 in London - it's massive. And a fucking horrible venue.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 31, 2024 1:39 PM |
[QUOTE] Why did Ana Matronic leave the group?
None of them would sleep with her, Rose.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 31, 2024 1:39 PM |
R7 It's a great venue with the right staging (I saw Girls Aloud there the other month). But yeah, I can't imagine 20,000 people turning up to see The Scissor Sisters these days.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 31, 2024 1:43 PM |
Jake needs to pay for his party favors and plastic surgery somehow
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 31, 2024 1:45 PM |
I love their song “Take Your Mamma.”
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 31, 2024 1:48 PM |
R9, they might be better off at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern for the crowd they'll get.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 31, 2024 1:48 PM |
I think Invisible Light was the best thing they ever did. Some friends went to see them live back in their heyday and said they were absolutely awful.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 31, 2024 1:50 PM |
I saw them live in 2012 and it was a fun show, I thought. For the most part I enjoyed their albums, but it seems unfortunate that Ana Matronic isn't joining. I wasn't that fond of the solo material Jake Shears released in the last decade.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 31, 2024 2:51 PM |
Lord Rothermere, the founder of The Daily Mail, with his best German friend.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 31, 2024 2:55 PM |
Thanks R15 - is he the replacement for Ana?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 31, 2024 2:59 PM |
I have never understood their appeal.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 31, 2024 3:25 PM |
[I have never understood their appeal.]
R17, they're good, danceable pop. That's their appeal. And the guys are all cute. They all have such pretty muscular hindquarters.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 31, 2024 3:42 PM |
Baby Daddy was for guys into bears
Jake was people into basic gays
Del was people with refined tastes. Even if he ignored me on Scruff the bastard.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 31, 2024 3:44 PM |
They are being called a "queer pop group" here. I always called the members "gay" and the group a "group".
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 31, 2024 3:47 PM |
You were too good for him, R19. Del's taste is obviously only in his mouth.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 31, 2024 3:48 PM |
Del was my fave he looks sophisticated and kind, though with a withering put down capability as needed
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 31, 2024 3:48 PM |
I get that, R18. I just thought they only had a few catchy songs at best and the depth and power of what they offered was vastly overstated in the press.
No disrespect to any of their fans.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 31, 2024 3:49 PM |
[Quote]Del was people with refined tastes. Even if he ignored me on Scruff the bastard.
Oh, the humanity.
Never mind, my gay pal was in the club Heaven in the 90s and went up to Neil Tennant and cheerily greeted him with "you're Neil from the Pet Shop Boys! "
Neil retorted : "Fuck off".
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 31, 2024 3:51 PM |
Neil is/was a taller, thinner version of Armistead Maupin.
If you're not a muscular young man or a fascinating woman with a story he can dine out on, neither has time for you.

This song from Del Marquis (& Xavier) has lived on my playlists for over ten years.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 31, 2024 5:46 PM |
Saw them live and Jake Never spoke. Not once. It was bizarre. The cute guy with veard and Ana Matronic spoke lots. He sang but honestly not one word to the audience.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 31, 2024 5:58 PM |
R26 - that's a cover of a Jermaine Jackson song he did with Devo.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 31, 2024 6:04 PM |
Jake is really trying to make his career happen. This, Devil Wears Prada, Cabaret, etc.
I wonder if he had an irreconcilable falling out with Ana.
I also wonder if he's having to claw his way back from being a dripping cunt when The Scissors were at their peak.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 31, 2024 8:30 PM |
Shishor... Shishtersh? Hardly rollsh off the tongue.

I just read an article THIS WEEK that reported Ana Matronic was on board for this tour.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 31, 2024 8:46 PM |
r3 I know what you mean. Sometimes blue eyes look strange and kind of crazy.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 31, 2024 8:47 PM |
Scissors Sisters were HUGE in the UK and Europe, far bigger than they were in the US were they were, at best, a gay band that charted a couple of times. They can probably fill some big arenas over there.
I'm guessing they'll eventually tour in the US but it will be big theaters and not arenas. Or, more likely, lots of Gay Pride festivals.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | November 1, 2024 12:22 AM |
Since Ana's left they should probably change the name of the band to Daisy Chain Brothers.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | November 1, 2024 12:26 AM |
LOL...Ana Matronic's statement is very...terse. "I'm busy with a podcast that no one listens to and the timing didn't work out."
uh huh.
I think there's no love lost between her and the boys. I don't know if it was HER or THEM but wasn't the scuttlebutt when they broke up, that there was tension? I thought there was something about her being a bit of a pill.
I don't get the fans saying "we won't go if there's no Ana!" Uh, she was a sidekick/back up singer...who cares? She got one song to lead on per album.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | November 1, 2024 12:27 AM |
I heard some intel that Scissor Sisters will do a US tour of some kind this summer. And, yeah, lots of Pride festivals.

by Anonymous | reply 44 | November 1, 2024 4:53 AM |
Why did Jake's solo career go straight down the shitter? Drugs? Mental illness? Laziness?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | November 1, 2024 9:50 AM |
Love the Scissor Sisters but my suspicion was always that Ana was royally pissed at Jake for breaking the band up when he did - so soon after they finally had another hit, Let’s Have A Kiki, a song that featured her ‘vocal’. They were all still making good money touring and they could have done at least one more world tour on the strength of Kiki’s popularity but Jake pulled the plug. Like many talented artists that front bands I think Jake felt he had a bright and successful solo career ahead of him and it was time to let go of the band. Alas, that solo super stardom hasn’t worked out quite the way he would have liked and Jake has called the group back together. He knows they can make a lot of money again performing under the Scissor Sisters banner. And I believe Ana told them to fuck off when they came to her about touring again. I don’t believe she and Jake ever reconciled. Jake released two solo albums over the past ten years and Ana didn’t mention, never mind praise, either on any of her social. Also Jake was dismissive of Ana’s singing ability in his autobiography published in 2018.

I would spill something on Babydaddy. A generous load.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | November 2, 2024 3:20 AM |
Scissor Sisters is the Paul Revere and the Raiders of our age.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | November 2, 2024 3:40 AM |
Just saw the tour announcement on Tiktok and they're flaming then for no Ana. They'll sell small crowds in the UK as a nostalgia act, and that's it. Don't mistake wide press distribution for a large audience. It's the oldest track in the UK publicists' book.
And whoever dressed them in all white should be publicly shamed so more qualified people can get that kind of work. It made Jake Shears's fake tan look Trump level bad.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | November 2, 2024 6:30 AM |
I like Jake. And the Scissor Sisters have some genuinely great songs (and some other decent songs), but he is a terrible live vocalist. He's no Bee Gee and that falsetto / head voice (not sure which is technically accurate in his case) sounds decent in studio but is SO shaky live. Alison Goldfrapp is opening for them. They should get her to perform on a few songs.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | November 2, 2024 8:28 AM |
They had a few songs I liked, but I strangely could never get into their music, though dance music was my favorite genre in those days. I think it was Jake’s falsetto. I thought it worked well for some songs, less for others. Still, they did well for being club kids who turned musicians.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | November 2, 2024 2:59 PM |
Ana's statement clarifying why she isn't participating. I think it's bullshit and she was paid off to let them tour without her unimpeded l.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | November 2, 2024 2:59 PM |
I'm still shocked at all the weird affection for her...she brought some fun fag hag charm to the party but again....back up singer/sidekick.
It was always weird they broke up...I mean, I could see taking a long break but they could have been making some nice $$$ as a legacy band doing the summer festival/gay pride route. And, other than Jake trying (and mostly not really succeeding) to make it as a solo star, they've been pretty lowkey over the years. Babydaddy was doing his comic book nerd thing and Del seemed happy as a househusband while Ana did....very little.
They were a fun, retro sound pop band. The first album was terrific, the 2nd album was pretty good but then the third album not so interesting and downhill from there.
"Kiki" is such a stupid song.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | November 2, 2024 11:01 PM |
Surprised no one has posted Del's nudes/dick Pic yet
by Anonymous | reply 54 | November 2, 2024 11:13 PM |
R50 Alison Goldfrapp is opening for them? They should be opening for her. As cute and fuckable as Jake is Alison is far more talented vocally.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | November 3, 2024 1:46 AM |
R55 - I LOVE Alison, but no way is she in a position to be doing headlining arena tour, especially as a solo artist. The Scissor Sisters did get PRETTY big in the UK in the earlier part of the 2000s -- bigger than they ever got in the U.S. It sounds like it will be a good gig for her, though.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | November 3, 2024 1:50 AM |
Twenty years? Oy vey…
by Anonymous | reply 57 | November 3, 2024 1:56 AM |
I think most of the audience will be there for Alison.
I'm in the UK and have some friends who were huge Scissor Sisters fans back in the day, and no-one is talking about this. I predict they'll initially sell a few tickets at full, ridiculous high prices then they'll be sold off at discount like a Janet Jackson concert. They're not even trending on twitter.
This will fail.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | November 3, 2024 2:10 AM |
Tell them to talk to me if they need some advice on how to cancel a concert tour nobody else gives a fuck about.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | November 3, 2024 2:18 AM |
No one ever wanted to be famous more than Jake Shears did.
I am always amazed he did not get further than he did. Despite the wild eyes, he was handsome and had a nice body; despite the annoying and inconsistent falsetto, he could sing. He also had loads of onscreen charm, and he wanted to succeed so badly.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | November 3, 2024 3:57 AM |
Sorry: I meant "onstage charm"

by Anonymous | reply 62 | November 3, 2024 9:51 AM |
It won’t go the way they think, a lot of us have moved on, Much of the success was the unique sound and that they were lean hungry, hardscrabble artists. Elton John kinda of lifted them out of obscurity, but they’ve been off the radar for awhile now.
Now the focus is on other projects, they’ve made some money, and the attitude, vibe and energy has changed. Ana choosing other projects shows either she doesn’t think a reunion or tour is important enough, or there is still some deep seated and unresolved issue about money and control.
I call it the “Mary J Blige Syndome”.
How on Earth can you be relatable or ring sincere singing about strife, heartache and fear- once you’ve made your first million?
by Anonymous | reply 63 | November 3, 2024 11:01 AM |
The Scissor Sisters filled the same musical niche as the B-52’s did years earlier. They should have followed the B-52’s lead and milked the novelty act as long as possible. SS were fun, and much of the appeal was Jake’s sexiness. Great memories.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | November 3, 2024 11:41 AM |
Someone who books Pride festivals told me they ARE touring in the US this summer.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | November 4, 2024 5:54 AM |
This is clearly a cash grab before it's too late, and it may be already. They're already looking like a gay Dad band.
I think Jake can't accept the cold hard fact that they were viewed as a group with no leading member, like the aforementioned B-52s.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | November 4, 2024 7:32 AM |
Really eye rolling at some of these dumb comments.
Legacy bands tour for DECADES making very nice livings on the Zoo/Winery Oldies circuit and any LGBTQ group has the added advantage of Gay Prides events which now go year round and during June is just a month long cash grab.
Bands with fewer hits and fewer albums are still making bank.
And, in what alternate reality wasn't Scissor Sisters seen as "that fun gay band with hot Jake Shears as the lead singer"?
They also don't seem particularly bitter or unhappy. As already said, they've all been doing their own thing. And, while I'm sure Jake would have liked to have maybe had more success with the solo music stuff, he seems to be doing ok. Does lots of theater, both onstage and as a creative.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | November 4, 2024 7:44 AM |
R66 LOL...how do you describe the Rolling Stones? They've been on a cash grab for 40 plus years without making new music and they're an aging great Grandad band.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | November 4, 2024 7:46 AM |
They have no nostalgia capital that will fill anything but the smallest of venues at the major-est of cities in the US and extremely gay venues. They won't sell outside of the UK and Dublin, and even then the addressable market isn't that big. 1-5K crowds, tops. They think they're segmented with band who can tour and draw crowds of their multi-decade catalog like Erasure and they're not.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | November 4, 2024 7:53 AM |
LOL...you seem bitter, R69 . Are you Ana?
They're booking bigger venues in UK/Ireland because that's where they had big success from 2006 to 2012. I wouldn't be surprised if they also do some Euro dates as well at some point depending on how the UK tour goes. They were also hugely popular in Australia.
We'll see if they made a mistake with booking those venues once tickets go on sale.
I haven't seen anything to suggest they think themselves as an Erasure like band....they seem pretty level headed. I've been told by a local booker here in the US that they will do gigs in the US this summer and that was from someone who only books big city Pride events. They never really attempted big arena tours in the US in the past; I don't know why they would that try that now as a Legacy band unless it was as an opening band for someone bigger.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | November 4, 2024 8:12 AM |
Can they scissor without Ana?
by Anonymous | reply 71 | November 4, 2024 8:14 AM |
I'm not Ana, but I do think Jake fucked her over and didn't like sharing the spotlight.
Not bitter, but Jake could have invested more in his fans and could have been more gracious about his success. He didn't manage that social capital, and now he comes off as loving people just because he needs them. As John Waters said, these days being gay is not enough to do well in certain sections of the world anymore.
And I wouldn't brag about booking pride events. The bar is not that fucking high to get a slot on that circuit and the money is non-profit low.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | November 4, 2024 8:25 AM |
No, but you are strange and kinda weird and apparently bitter that Jake didn't suck your dick in 2008.
"invest more in his fans"
WTF does that mean?
And, who is bragging? And, what century do you live in? Major musical artists perform at gay pride events (in major metro areas) and they're not being paid "non profit rates".
by Anonymous | reply 73 | November 4, 2024 9:00 AM |
I think Jake is a waste of gay potential, so I'm not kind. Sorry, but there's enough people who overpraise him.
Yes, I know that major metros pay higher. But it's not enough to be significant money for a three-way split, with a share likely going to Ana.
Jake fell off the face of the earth for years, didn't bother with his fans, and produced *nothing*. Now, they're not even bothering with a new single or at least some sort of branded experience to promote the tour? It's like they think we should be grateful they're gracing us with their presence at all.
A mid-week concert when you're in your 40s with a job and family for this? They could at least try to make it worth the effort.

R56 She could be headlining more shows more often if more people had better taste in music (see Sabrina Carpenter as a prime example). Same exact reason why it took decades for the U.S. to finally recognize Kylie Minogue when it should've been right from the very start. I'm well aware they are two completely different female artists with different voices and music genres but you know what I mean.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | November 4, 2024 6:28 PM |
R56 Alison could headline if more people had better taste in music (see overrated and talentless Sabrina Carpenter as a prime example). Same reason why it took decades for Kylie Minogue to finally get the recognition she should've had from the very start I'm the U.S.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | November 4, 2024 7:31 PM |
r80 / Chaos - You don't have to convince me. I've been seeing Alison in concert since 2000! Love her. If gay men of a certain age were in charge of the culture, yes, Alison and her like (say... Roisin Murphy) would be headlining global arena tours, but... that's not the reality. Anyway, I'd say Alison's had a very successful career, especially considering she only really got started in her 30s -- you know, ancient in the pop music world -- and she's maintained a good-sized and passionate fanbase. Anyway, I don't think she's the least bit bitter about getting a good paid arena gig opening for a band she genuinely likes and... has briefly worked with herself.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | November 4, 2024 9:14 PM |
I was at the O2 a few months back and I honestly cannot imagine Scissor Sisters filling a venue that size. They were briefly big but that was a very long time ago. It's a 20 thousand capacity venue and their dates are midweek. Their fanbase are in their 40s and 50s.
