I'm debating leaving town and shutting off the outside world and hibernating. Or doing the same at home. Just give myself a few days away from the circus the following days will be--no tv, no internet, no phone--either I will be pleasantly surprised or in deep mourning. Maybe we won't even know by the weekend what the outcome will be, anyway.
Any plans after Election Day?

There will be no mourning OP. She is going to win.

Same, the image of Steve Kornacki's khakis will be burned into my TV screen for those days

Everyone- even if she wins--- we will be basically in a mild civil war-- There will be no election night. It will be weeks and weeks of TORTURE. Get ready-
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 28, 2024 6:26 PM |
Thanks for that, R1. I appreciate it and I want that to be the case.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 28, 2024 6:31 PM |
We knew the Biden victory in 2020 by that Saturday. Likely we'll know that Harris won by then,
Watching the weeks of Trump's foolishness in the weeks after will be entirely optional. The Dems are well prepared for his legal manuevers
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 28, 2024 6:32 PM |
MAGAts will be a lot of talk, but most of them will retreat to their hidey-holes. But there probably will be isolated random acts of violence. Although we have mass shootings here in the US all the time, so will it be much different than any other day in America?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 28, 2024 6:38 PM |
The past few months we've had Trump supporters shooting at Trump. He should be the one who is worried.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 28, 2024 6:42 PM |
I have an overseas trip planned for a month after. I'm considering whether there's any possibility of overstaying my visa if it comes to that. I don't think there's any chance at all, but it's nice to fantasize.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 28, 2024 6:43 PM |
R7 yea If I lived in a red state or any midwestern state I’d avoid malls, movies, Walmart etc for that week. Some right wing freak is going to go off. Be safe bitches.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 28, 2024 6:44 PM |
If Harris wins I will sit back all day and bask in the afterglow. If Trump wins I will close myself off for a few days and notify every person I know for whom I have an email address that they are permanently dead to me and never to contact me in any way again. And that's both family and non-family. I will also remind that them you reap what you sow.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 28, 2024 6:44 PM |
R11 Hav you voted already. After you vote on Tuesday hit up Kaiser or BlueCross. Don’t call, go in person.

I'll be relying on DL to keep me updated. I honestly don't have the stomach to watch any of the coverage.
In 2016 I rage cleaned my entire house plus garage after the results. You could eat off my garage floor.
I'm hoping there won't be any need for me to rage clean anything and I can just relax as DL reports that the orange anus mouth is history.

The day after the election will be a Wednesday and I will do what I do on Wednesday. Similarly, Thursday and the rest of the days will be the same as any other week.

I guess I should get in a bottle of decent champagne in case we win. It was a good memory back in 2020, when Biden was finally declared the winner on a beautiful, sunny Saturday morning. As soon as it happened, I called a friend, she came running over, and we sat in the backyard, popped the cork, and toasted.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 28, 2024 7:04 PM |
Guys- refresh my memory- Didn't the first 1/2 of election night in 2020 NOT look good for Biden? I remember panicking(sp?) and there were some kind souls here very intelligently explaining why it was not the end of the world , yet- And they were proven right.
This time?? Holy FUCK BALLS- I will not be watching. I know that I cannot even handle 4 hours of things looking good for Trump-
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 28, 2024 7:07 PM |
I think, R16, that what you remember is that a lot of red districts were reporting early, and there were many key urban areas we were waiting for that were going to be reliably blue with many, many votes to outnumber the Republican votes already counted. I don't know exactly why that was happening, but I think it was because it just takes longer to report from high-population areas.

Assuming the best, I'll remain at my current level of mild to medium anxiety throughout the following weeks' fuckery. On January 20, I'll exhale.
Assuming the worst, I'll be cocooning with comfort food, games, and old movies for an indefinite period.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 28, 2024 7:16 PM |
R17- In think that you are correct!!! I remember it being quite late and Trump winning at the time..

I'm not voting until the 5th, not trying to go to the town hall, I live 5 minutes from my voting station anyway, but I'm also fortuitous enough to have a regular Tues afternoon appointment with my therapist. Then I can turn into a hermit for a few days, in the aftermath.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 28, 2024 7:38 PM |
The night of the 2020 election Trump declared that he had won PA since the count at that point showed him up by 750K votes and there was "no way" Biden could get enough votes to win the state, in which a few days later, Biden won.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 28, 2024 7:59 PM |
Were likely not to know the outcome until at least Friday. Everyone is claiming this is going to be the closest election ever, if it is that close some states might have to wait for all the overseas votes to role in, unless Post Master DeJoyless dumps them in a river.

Good God, I just reread my post at R11 and see that I left out 2 vitally important words in my statement. It should have read as follows. The way it was written makes it sound like I'm going to disown everyone I know just because Trump won. LOL

I'm also not in panic mode, but I think the candidates have an equal chance of winning and there's no way to predict who will win. Whatever will happen will happen no matter how I or anyone feels.

Remember, we won't know the actual results for a few days—maybe Saturday. So, don't despair; go on with your life and try to avoid media binging.
If your candidate doesn't win, it's not the end of the world - despite what you might have read/heard. I easily survived four years of my candidate not winning, and I'm sure I can survive another four. Just take responsibility for what you can control.

It would be nice if both political sides agreed that after the election the winning side would comfort the losing side, apologize for the things that have been said, and try to find common ground to bring the country closer together.

Me too. Right now, I'm trying to have some optimism that Harris will win, but try to prepare myself for a Trump win so in that event I won't take a Harris loss too hard.

[quote] try to prepare myself for a Trump win
How do you do that, R50?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 29, 2024 10:26 PM |
R52 I just try to be ready emotionally in the event of Trump loss by acknowledging the reality of racism and misogyny in this country. iI'm a woman and there are times I think certain issues related to gender are downplayed and female misogynists are still very much around. But, I think a Trump win for me would be heartbreaking because people are still supporting the fucker after election interference, J6, the convictions, and the nasty shit he has said about women, veterans, minorities, Hitler crap etc. If Trump wins, I will be ashamed of the Americans who voted for him . But, at least I can hold up my head and know that I voted for Harris and tried to help stop another Trump presidency.
Last week, I was thinking back to 2007-08 when there were many people saying that the US wasn't ready for a black president and they didn't think Obama could win the Dem nomination and when he did win the nomination, some were thinking he was going to lose the general election. I had those same thoughts back then. Looking back, I remember that video of John McCain telling his supporters that Obama is a good man. I miss the days when elections weren't so nasty and vile.

It’s stupid that PA starting the count of mail in votes on Election Day can’t complete the count in one day. The start date is not as important as how long they drag out the actual counting. It’s like when you request something from a company, and it only takes seconds to accomplish, but you’re told you need to wait 6-8 weeks.
