They really believe they’re the majority here, huh?

"I don’t think Trump got 35% of NY City>"
Why do people like R12 keep thinking NYC is some bastion of liberalism?
Manhattan, some parts of Brooklyn, maybe. but the other boroughs? Strictly blue collar/working class. It not surprising that Trump and Giuliani are from the outer boroughs of NYC.

R25 Right. Make no mistake about it. New York is one of the remaining big cities where the blue collar still votes democratic. Chicago, Philly, and DC as well. Staten Island is the ONLY borough that votes republican.

As of February 2024, each of the 5 boroughs ACTIVE voter enrollments (not counting Inactive). This is strictly Dem and Rep, not those registered as other things, including Independent.
Bronx- 507K Democratic / 42k Republican
Brooklyn - 987k Democratic / 126k Republican
Queens - 736k Democratic / 133k Republican
Staten Island - 119k Democratic / 95k Republican
Manhattan - 663k Democratic / 66k Republican

Regarding the number of registered Republican and Democrat voters posted up thread — Staten Island is more heavily Republican than the numbers show. As far back as the 80s my very Tea-party / MAGA parents registered as Democrats just so they could vote against the more liberal or popular candidates in the primaries, as did many of their friends.
One of the many reasons I got my ass across the Harbor to Manhattan as soon as I could. And yes along with Jersey & LI, Brooklyn, Queens & SI were certainly considered Bridge & Tunnel - The Bronx usually wasn’t.

Actually New Yorkers have known Trump for the con-man, overt racist, shitty businessman and bloviating bullshitter he has been since the 1980s. His staged persona in The Apprentice is what got the rubes in the rest of the country to believe his contrived person. He learned most of his cunning way to say to lies and criminal acts out loud from Roy Cohn. His only way to win politically is to create fear, hate and divide and conquer. And it is incredibly unlikely that he will squeak by enough votes in the swing states to win the electoral college again in 2024 like he did in 2016.

That crowd is overwhelming male and white. Kamala’s crowds tend to follow the demographics of the city she is in and the gender split looks 60/40. If she came to NYC, the crowd would be very mixed. For all the headlines about black males and Latino males, the reality is that MAGA is a white nationalist movement. Like all nationalist movements it’s also homophobic, misogynistic, ableist and anti intellectual.

R143 You are 100% spot on. Trump’s black male support is dying each day. It has eroded as he has had to go more extreme in trying to motivate that white base to vote. It has totally backfired. He is toast.

R154 All the little sounds and dance steps that will determine how this election turns out: Michele Obama's rhetoric on Friday completely unplugged the rationale for black men to support Trump, IF it is heard. Time will tell.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | October 28, 2024 3:55 PM |
R154 It definitely is. Trust me. Michelle Obama spoke so well. You want to nitpick her answers during interviews HE DOESN’T EVEN THE COURAGE TO DO. I like how she was scolding in tone too. Because it needs to be said and she and Obama have the clout to lay it down like that. You want hold a white multimillionaire, whose family routinely denied blacks the opportunity to rent, to a different standard because he is somehow a “boss”. Are you out of your goddam mine. That shit is registering.

R157 Michele made the case to black men so much better than Barak did. Barak scolded black men "black women have had your back and lifted you up and now it's time to support them".... Michele said "black women need your protection now"... so much more effective.
The wind is in Harris's sails... how it takes her to the finish line ahead.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | October 28, 2024 5:12 PM |
R163 I kind agree with you. Michele just has a way with words. Her speech was so effective because she was like “excuse me if I seem a little frustrated”. It was like a black family meeting. And not that criticism of Harris isn’t unwarranted but how DARE any self respecting black man criticize her words or mistakes in office while bolstering this white multimillionaire megalomaniac. She spoke brilliantly from the heart. He won’t debate, he won’t do real interviews, he can only disparage.

[quote] I forgot to ask [R150] if Biden should have signed an Executive Order to enact the provisions of the bipartisan bill. Could he do that like Trump enacted the Muslim ban through EO?
Generally no. An Executive Order just pertains to what the Executive Branch can do. Biden can't conjure up millions of dollars to hire new border guards and judges that the bill would have provided. The bill would have also allowed for new technology, like drones, to monitor the border. Biden can't make that happen without more funds.

If Trump wins with a campaign that just spewed racism and sexism, with no real policies except Tariffs, Tariffs, Tariffs!! and Concepts of a Health Plan, America has little hope left for a good future.
Economists say that the economy looks favorable for whomever wins, so Trump will take full credit (like he did for Obama's economy).

I was fascinated by this:
[quote] Robert, a 65-year-old who was here from Sarasota selling Trump merch, claimed he unwittingly stayed in a motel in Phoenix that the Biden administration had commandeered to house migrants, and when he got to his room there were “people shooting up dope, puking blood all over.” He said migrants were peering into his car looking for stuff to steal.
This is almost certainly an outright lie. I managed a similar project, which could have even been this hotel. They do not intermingle migrants with the general population, and there is security to protect entrance and exit to the property.
Sarasota says it all.

If senior citizens have to pay taxes on the social security income (which they already paid over the years for by the way) , then why wouldn't tips require taxes? Eliminating taxes on tips is a way for the highest income earners to not pay taxes on their bonuses and commission.

People whose only income is SS do not pay taxes on it. If you have other income - that PLUS your SS must reach a certain amount before 50%-85% of your SS is taxable.

If you earn more than $3K a month it is taxable. I will begin next year and I will getting around $3.8K monthly, so I will be taxed. Again. I understand they need the taxes to help with the solvency, but that wouldn't be necessary if they raise the SS income cap from $160K to perhaps $1M.
