I lost most of a fingernail. Any advice?

Accident with a meat cleaver sliced fingernail (only minor damage to finger). I was able to keep it attached for a while with bandaids and crazy glue, but now the top 2/3rds has fallen off, leaving the tip of my finger unprotected. The bottom of the nail is still in place.

The exposed skin seems calloused enough to live with, but I’m worried that I should leave it unprotected. Is there any alternative to using a band aid for the next few months? Fake nails?

Just smoke copious amounts of pot, silly!

Just chop off the whole finger with your meat cleaver. Problem solved and you might get a few sympathy fucks OP.

Wear a glove. Like this:

You can be like Michael Jackson and wear a glove on one hand for no apparent reason.

I had a toenail rip last year and ordered this professional nail repair kit from Amazon, and reattached the nail part. I kept it covered with a flexible waterproof band-aid and it worked well for me. You should get some rubber gloves for the times your hands will be immersed in water, like dishwashing or cleaning.

A first-rate nail salon may be able to help you.

How can you use a fake nail dumbass? How do you think those attach? Don't you want it to heal?

by Anonymousreply 7October 27, 2024 4:39 PM

When I break a nail, it makes wiping easier.

by Anonymousreply 8October 27, 2024 4:43 PM

I assume it would attach to what’s left of my nail, r7.

by Anonymousreply 9October 27, 2024 4:48 PM

If by dumbass you are referring to me R7, I used this method to keep the remaining nail from growing into the skin

Finger cots.

They're like little rubbers for your fingers.

I’m not wearing a finger condom.

It's a "fucking fingernail" for the love of DL. Just STOP!

File the nail down and make it look good, call it a day.

by Anonymousreply 13October 27, 2024 5:37 PM

It'll repair itself, OP. This happened to me and it took a couple of months for it to look normal again, but eventually, it was just like it was. Just don't use that finger up anyone's asshole until it's healed.

It will regrow.

I dropped a shot-put on mine when I was a gayling and couldn't figure out what a shot put was used for. The nail turned black and I cold lift it up from the base like the hood of a 70s sports car.

by Anonymousreply 18October 27, 2024 10:49 PM

I expect it to grow back, but I’m worried about leaving the finger tip unprotected until it does.

by Anonymousreply 19October 27, 2024 11:05 PM

Call up the guy and ask if you can look for it his hole.

OP there are many different types of finger guards that will protect the finger, just do a search on the term "finger guard" however if you get one I suspect you will eventually decide they aren't worth the bother.

Might as well just wear a bandaid all the time.
