Why is Warner Bros. burying Clint Eastwood's potential last movie "Juror #2"?

Sources tell Variety the studio is considering not reporting box office grosses for the film.

Maybe it needs to be buried.

by Anonymousreply 1October 25, 2024 5:16 PM

Because David Zaslav doesn't have any regard for the legacy of the studio. He doesn't care how many millions Eastwood has made for Warner Brothers, he just assumes there's no theatrical audience for the movie. He is probably right: it's a thriller aimed at adults, it doesn't have any major stars, and Eastwood's movies haven't been good enough recently to earn any awards traction.

Even though he is probably correct that the movie doesn't have great box office prospects and I've never liked Eastwood, fuck David Zaslav.

by Anonymousreply 2October 25, 2024 5:19 PM

Because he talks to eleven empty chairs in the movie.

Fuck this turd, even if he did direct the greatest western of all time.

by Anonymousreply 3October 25, 2024 5:22 PM

That guy is so 🔥

by Anonymousreply 4October 25, 2024 5:27 PM

Zaslov is low rent, he's ruining WB.

by Anonymousreply 5October 25, 2024 5:37 PM

If you can’t sell a Clint Eastwood directed-courtroom thriller to the public, then you shouldn’t be running a movie studio.

I just saw Juror #2. It's a good movie and all the performances are fine. It presents a moral dilemma - the morally correct action is clear, but the consequences of taking that action are potentially life-destroying - that is adult and thought-provoking. It's worth seeing if you like legal thrillers or movies that force you to think "what would I do in that situation?"

Juror #2 would never have been a box office smash, but it could have done respectable business. Apparently, it has exceeded (admittedly low) expectations already. Shame on Warners for not supporting the picture. No wonder fewer people go to the movies when the occasional good-quality, intelligent, but non-spectacle and relatively low-budget film is abandoned by the studio.

For what it's worth, I saw the movie at 3 p.m. on a Tuesday, and there were perhaps 30 other people in the auditorium, which is several times the maximum I usually see at mid-week matinees even for higher-profile films. Perhaps word of mouth is helping.

by Anonymousreply 7November 12, 2024 11:01 PM

I wasn't aware it was out there

by Anonymousreply 8November 12, 2024 11:31 PM

Eastwood has directed some good thrillers such as Changeling and Absolute Power.

by Anonymousreply 9November 12, 2024 11:34 PM

Maybe because it stinks?

by Anonymousreply 10November 12, 2024 11:34 PM

Because Sondra Locke is taking revenge from beyond the grave.

Please. Clint Eastwood is 94 years old.

by Anonymousreply 12November 12, 2024 11:40 PM

It doesn’t, though, R10. It’s a well-made, suspenseful movie with excellent performances.

by Anonymousreply 13November 13, 2024 6:21 AM

Does it have any hot babies with big tits or hairy snatch in it? How about a scene of a woman pleasuring herself with a paintbrush while thinking back to her first sexual experience with her female high school gym coach in 1960s Harlem?

by Anonymousreply 14November 13, 2024 6:34 AM

It's on MAX (HBO) now I may check it out

by Anonymousreply 15December 21, 2024 5:35 AM

Maybe it’s no good. Just because you’re a legend doesn’t mean you can still pull it off at 90 years old.

by Anonymousreply 16December 21, 2024 6:03 AM

We would stream it for sure. I love Clint.

by Anonymousreply 17December 21, 2024 6:09 AM

R17 = chair.

by Anonymousreply 18December 21, 2024 10:25 AM

Man, they are REALLY trying to make Nicholas Hoult happen. I'm not impressed.

by Anonymousreply 19December 21, 2024 11:01 AM

How does it compare to Rural Juror?

by Anonymousreply 20December 21, 2024 11:50 AM

r14, what's the paintbrush movie? I'd love to see it.

by Anonymousreply 21December 21, 2024 12:14 PM

I liked it VERY much--

I found the plot a -little- soapy- just a little too preposterous in a way?

But that aspect is more minor than I am making it--

I fucking LOVED that ending. I am glad that Clint ended it the way he did-

Solid film. 7/10

by Anonymousreply 22December 21, 2024 12:18 PM

I dislike Eastwood as a person and despise him as a know-nothing political turd, but he's a brilliant director and the contempt for his last movie by the studio is outrageous.

by Anonymousreply 23December 21, 2024 2:41 PM

I lost interest half-way through after the big reveal of the backstory.

by Anonymousreply 24December 21, 2024 6:32 PM

Chris Messina is in this. He is still quite handsome. Haven't seen him in awhile so I may watch this tonight.

R24- For me the real drama came from the dilemma that the characters were in- mainly Toni and Nicholas's characters- that's why the film worked for me.. The backstory was very tv movie of the week/soap opera for me- but ultimately it did not matter for me.

Chris Messina was awesome in this- I have loved him since SFU- he never gives a bad performance-

I can see why Toni was talked about early in the season for a Best Supporting actress nomination too

by Anonymousreply 26December 21, 2024 7:12 PM

I streamed it. It was an above average film compared to the usual shit fare out there now.

by Anonymousreply 27December 21, 2024 7:18 PM

Ju… i give up!

by Anonymousreply 28December 21, 2024 11:42 PM

I can see why they didn't have confidence in the movie. The ending sucked.

by Anonymousreply 29December 22, 2024 4:21 AM

Because they don't like him?

by Anonymousreply 30December 22, 2024 4:23 AM

I think CE is a total asshole. He's not made one movie that I ever liked. I hated the way he treated a few of the women he had semi long relationships with. I did like him in The Beguiled, though, but i don't know if he directed it.

by Anonymousreply 31December 22, 2024 5:12 AM

His directing style is a bit flat. Ron Howard has tghe same problem. You feel like you're watching a tv docu-drama.

by Anonymousreply 32December 22, 2024 12:47 PM

The Beguiled was directed by Don Siegel.

by Anonymousreply 33December 22, 2024 1:43 PM

Maybe Zaslov didn’t think a film about a criminal white guy with a moral conscience would be believable in this day and age.

by Anonymousreply 34December 22, 2024 1:45 PM

Thanks R33.

by Anonymousreply 35December 22, 2024 1:49 PM

Guy on left is hot

by Anonymousreply 36December 22, 2024 2:13 PM

A dumb business decision. From a production standpoint his films come in under budget and the shooting schedule is on time or even sooner than expected. That’s a rarity in Hollywood

by Anonymousreply 37December 22, 2024 3:44 PM

I thought it was odd when it popped up on streaming so quickly.

by Anonymousreply 38December 22, 2024 4:00 PM

I watched it and I’m easily entertained. But this was just bad. Terrible writing and acting by the jurors. Obvious plot. Stupid “twist.,” which was a big nuthin’.

Too bad. I was looki g forward to an entertaining court thriller. Not entertaining or thrilling. And that, OP, is why movie got buried.

by Anonymousreply 39December 22, 2024 4:04 PM

This would never be nominated for an Oscar. It’s competent but overly sincere on a mundane subject (jury duty). You could do a similar film on cheating at the DMV but it would still be uneventful.

by Anonymousreply 40December 22, 2024 4:11 PM

R33 Clint learned a lot about directing from Siegel. He (Clint) is representative of an older style of Hollywood... simple, unfussy, let the actor say his lines, don't do multiple takes, tell the story and move on.

R11 The Locke/Eastwood story would make a great movie. With a surprising focus on Locke and her childhood in TN, her early career in movies before Clint.

Who's to say this is Eastwood's last movie? Godard's last movie was made when he was 98.

by Anonymousreply 41December 22, 2024 4:52 PM

It should flop bigly, who the fuck cares about Clint fucking Eastwood? He should be shot dead at his great age and drug thru the streets like Mussolini, what fucking pussies you people are, stop watching his shit.
