''Trump Unity'' events seeking LGBT support for Trump
'In the half-empty hotel ballroom where the event took place, there were no rainbow flags, preferred pronouns were mocked and gay men were vastly outnumbered by their straight counterparts.
Several LGBTQ attendees at the event, nearly all of whom were white gay men, told NBC News they were unbothered by LGBTQ issues being mentioned only briefly or not acknowledged at all by the evening’s speakers.'
'Trump fundraiser Bill White, who also spoke at the Charlotte event and is openly gay, pushed back on naysayers who question the former president’s commitment to the LGBTQ community. He challenged critics to attend one of Trump’s rallies, where Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.” frequently blasts out of the speakers.'
“What does the guy do at every rally?” White said at the Charlotte event. “He puts his hands in the air and does his dance moves to the unofficial gay national anthem for crying out loud.”
'When asked what they hoped a second Trump presidency might accomplish for LGBTQ Americans, gay Trump supporters said they believed society and the government were already free of prejudice against the LGBTQ community.'
Don Webber, 57, who works for a financial services company, said the LGBTQ community needs to “get away from that victim mentality.”

"Don Webber, 57, who works for a financial services company, said the LGBTQ community needs to “get away from that victim mentality.”
And no one, but no one, on the planet Earth plays the victim better than Donald J. Trump. January 6, 2021 was the ultimate display of Trump's victimhood. Everyone was out to get him, to deny him his rightful victory lap, so he was correct to start an armed insurrection.
Miss Webber needs a particularly vicious face slapping.

Somehow.. I don’t think the recent past history of YMCA dancing at a Trump rally is gonna save us if Trump wins and then can’t complete his term, and President JD Vance and Project 2025 cabal take over.

Trump is stuck in the late 70s and 80s. That's why he plays YMCA. It reminds him of the cocaine and pussy in the Studio 54 era. It's got nothing to go with gays.

Trump definitely plays YMCA for the 70s nostalgia vibe but it's also the 'young man, there's no need to feel down' lyrics. He sees himself as a 'tough love' father figure for redneck and Gen Z youth.

So a gay Republican event of 100 people, majority of whom were not gay.
Very on brand.
Every group has its idiots who will vote Republican no matter what.
What I hate is how some how 'pronouns' are somehow an LGB issue and cause. That's more of a non-binary idea, right?
And this is what the Gay and Lesbian community gets saddled with by all these groups climbing on top of our community.

That would be more honest r11. Just have them admit they worship money and fuck other guys and that's literally all they care about. They have zero interest in gay rights and would be perfectly happy if gay rights were entirely revoked as long as they got a tax cut. Even wanting to preserve gay marriage is a "victim mentality" to these bitches.
They should have just had a backroom, where rich gay and "questioning" Republicans could audition houseboys. In fact, maybe they did.

R12 - if they even read Project 2025 - you'll see how they want to roll-back LGB protections - including rolling back Bostock.
So these assholes could come into work shortly after the election and BE FIRED for being gay - and have their marriages and partnership protections eliminated as well.
"oh they wouldn't do that" - then why did they write it down?
Here's a link to the Project 2025 LGBT policies - it's a one-pager so it's a quick read.

even more confusing than the straight dumpterfire supporters. if you read project 2025, LGBT people stand to lose not only gay marriage, but all protections ..... jobs, lending, healthcare,....the feds will no longer even recognize your "partnership" - which means if you include your partner on your benefits, that is now taxable income for him/her - if he/she is deceased (as is my case) you will no longer be eligible to collect any of their social security benefits. you can't visit them in the hospital, can't claim their bodies, can't plan the funeral, can't make medical decisions.....and inheritance/tax situation is completely different ....... they must be self-loathing and think they deserve being treated as 2nd class people.

I do agree that Dementia Don has never been particularly homophobic. We all know real, hardcore homophobia in the U.S. comes from the god-botherers, and since Trump has never had the slightest trace of religious belief he never fell into homophobia. He's never actually done anything to help gay rights, cause he doesn't care about anybody's rights except his own, but at least he's never been opposed to us. He's more or less fine with us being gay, but of course if throwing us to the wolves was politically useful, he would do it easily and quickly. The most we could say is it's not a priority, although it might be for J.D. Vance and his gang of clowns and "theo-bros."

Project 2025 is very homophobic R74 and if Trump wins, his administration will be heavily populated by people from Project 2025. We are a priority for them. They have detailed what they want to do to gays in Project 2025 (remove all federal legal protections for LGBT people and overturn gay marriage) and they have publicly stated Project 2025 have already drawn up the executive orders for Trump to sign.
Trump is so fat and lazy and self-obsessed he will just sign them and go and play golf. We know this is coming because it's from one end of the internet to the other in great detail. Trump may himself not give a shit one way or the other about gay people but his base, the evangelicals and the GOP at large DO care and they want this done. After abortion - gays being an abomination to God and American family values is next on their hit list.

One thing which is public knowledge is that Trump instantly dropped Roy Cohn as soon as Trump heard that Cohn had contracted AIDS. Cohn may as well have been dead to him. Cohn was his closest friend, advisor and mentor for 13 years and the man who taught Trump to be who he is today.

[quote]When Trump was inaugurated in 2017, within a week, all reference to LGBT was taken off federal websites.
Exactly R90. I think we can all stop pretending that Trump has no problem with gays. He may not specifically speak about gays at his rallies - but his actions and his administration's actions speak louder than words.
This time, all references to LGBT people will be removed from all federal anti-discrimination laws. i.e. our rights to be treated the same as everyone else in various life, medial, workplace, housing and legal situations and to be protected from discrimination and violence because we are gay, are all going to be nullified. Gone.
That's one issue. The other issue is that when this is completed and is then fully understood by the general public, it encourages the discrimination and violence to resume by those who hates us - perhaps in retaliation for the time when we were protected. This will also change the general psyche of the public's view of how the can treat us. It will be like a new toy for some. If you have a good think about the repercussions it's very worrying.

The thing is we must distinguish between Trump's personal views and attitudes, or what we can know about those, and his political behaviour. He is motivated by his sharp instincts for which direction the cultural wind is blowing in, and he is amoral and devoid of any ethical standards when it comes to chasing votes. He will rollback gay rights in a flash if an opportunity presented itself to gain ground or consolidate power by doing so. Whether or not Trump is homophobic - which I doubt - is utterly irrelevant.
He may have felt some sympathy for Cohn when he learned of the HIV/AIDS diagnosis. But back then, his motivation would simply have been to shield himself from the association with AIDS, to build his fame and his popularity. When AIDS awareness removed stigma, Trump's tune changed and he made some pro-gay rights statements. Now, with the cultural shift to the right, he's echoing the right.

Spot on R100. Trump is the bread and circuses part of MAGA. He commands and holds the attention of the masses so they are unfocussed and unaware of what's going on in the background where all the real work will be done. Plans made. Policies implemented. Determined people. It wont be as bad to start out with - but essentially it's Gilead. Maybe it will end up as bad if they get the chance. Project 2025 have stated on numerous occasions that they have drawn up the executive orders for Trump to sign before he goes out to play golf for the day. We all know how lazy he is so he'll just sign them and say "you know best"... Terrifying.
But Kamala is going to win today! I fucking hope so or we are screwed.
