I got the 4K today after having cherished my old DVD of it for the last 15 years. It looks great. I am not a diehard fan of Korine, but I do love both "Gummo" and "Julien Donkey Boy". I have never seen anything else like either of them.
Harmony Korine's "Gummo" (1997) has entered the Criterion Collection

I've always been afraid to watch it because everyone says it's the grossest movie ever.

Watched it about 12 years ago after convincing some friends to give it a go on a Movie Night. We all hated it.

R4 all of the scenes with Chloë’s character and her sisters are gold. When I think about it, I suppose she is a large part of why I enjoy both Gummo and Julien Donkey-Boy—her performances in both are fantastic.

Kids was disturbing enough.

Oh wow, this is the only movie I've ever walked out of, in a state of total disgust.
I'd loved Kids and had persuaded my friend to go see it with me, and while he finished watching it I sat in the lobby and waited.

I can’t imagine a person being entertained by either of those movies, OP. I mean…

WHET to Harmony Korine?

It's not streaming anywhere.

I think one either appreciates nihilism, or one doesn't.

"The filmmaker told a Toronto Film Festival crowd that movie titles shouldn’t have any bearing on the content" What a fucking pretentious tool. And this movie shows that, disgusting people killing cats, no thanks. Watch "Welcome to the Dollhouse" with ugly people at least doing funny stuff.

All I remember is the kid eating spaghetti in the bathtub. Gross

I'm Gummo, damn it!

R13 I'm always up for a bit of good nihilism, but animal cruelty is a step too far for me, hard pass

I love this scene with two crazy deaf people arguing. The "coochie" scene posted above is gold too.

Anyone who uses the word "coochie" is not clever and won't make any good movie scenes.

Filmed in Xenia, Ohio. So it’s pretty spot on. The only thing the film is missing is couch fucking.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 26, 2024 6:26 PM |
No, it was filmed in Nashville, r21. It's set in Xenia, however.

r20 doesn't get it.
