Trump’s increasinly erratic unraveling is making it clear a Republican success would very quicly mean a Vance presidency, which was probably the plan all along.
But it’s poor optics, and they don’t want Vance to have to answer questions about this.

If you look at his schedule, he’s doing multiple things a day but they’re low- to medium-profile, like a town hall in Harrisburg. At a rally, he’s an unwanted downer.
