Diddygate. Bet money on it. Trump is a wild motherfucking who loved the urban in crowd.

by Anonymousreply 2October 23, 2024 8:35 PM

This all stems from Mark Halperin’s comment yesterday, so take it with a grain of salt. And we have all been there waiting for a smoking gun. But please, oh please let it be true!

In my dreams it iis proof his assassination attempt was staged and therefore he is guilty of murder.

by Anonymousreply 5October 23, 2024 8:37 PM

If God himself came down and said Trump was the wrong choice, MAGA would cry that he sold himself to the devil.

I don’t expect this to sink him.

The Mark Halperin angle

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 8October 23, 2024 8:41 PM

This must be related to the buzz yesterday that something with the capacity to destroy Trump’s campaign has been shopped around to various media people.

Maybe he’s finally been caught saying full on racist epithets (the N word), or saying “cunt” to describe women (or to describe a particular woman).

Maybe there’s footage of him with shit-stained pants and staff arguing over who has to deal with it.

Maybe there’s footage of him admitting to being sexually turned on by his own daughter. Or worse, admitting to having acted on it.

The possibilities are myriad.

by Anonymousreply 9October 23, 2024 8:42 PM

I've heard this about a dozen times since 2016.

by Anonymousreply 10October 23, 2024 8:44 PM

Halperin says he doesn’t believe the story is true.

We need to be careful what we wish for.

Could backfire

by Anonymousreply 11October 23, 2024 8:45 PM

The N word would not end Trump’s campaign.

Only evidence of Putin’s compromat could do that.

by Anonymousreply 12October 23, 2024 8:46 PM
Only evidence of Putin’s compromat could do that.

Given the number of MAGAts I've seen singing the praises of Putin and Russia, I doubt very much this would make much difference.

by Anonymousreply 13October 23, 2024 8:53 PM
The N word would not end Trump’s campaign.

Disagree. If he used the n-word, it would motivate a whole class of voters that have been apathetic at best, willing to vote for him at worst: Black men.

But this isn't the story. We all know Shitler is racist to the core, but he and his campaign are not stupid and know that his using the n-word (at this point) would cost him the election.

by Anonymousreply 14October 23, 2024 8:54 PM

The alleged rumor is he groped a minor of huge campaign donor. But take that with a grain of salt.

by Anonymousreply 15October 23, 2024 8:55 PM

The only thing I can think of that would end him with virtually the whole female voting block is incontrovertible proof that he was with a child. Republican women don't care about their own interests, but they are concerned about children.

by Anonymousreply 16October 23, 2024 8:57 PM

Well, he said he wanted Nazi generals like Hitler had. Kelly came out with damning evidence yesterday. I hope it does cost him votes because the hideous monster should be in prison.

by Anonymousreply 17October 23, 2024 8:57 PM

zzzzzzzzzzzz

by Anonymousreply 18October 23, 2024 8:57 PM

Depressingly, it could be almost anything. Trump is a lying, cheating, thieving, defrauding, bullying, raping, tax-dodging obese 78-yr. old felon. Colluded with foreign adversaries, began an insurrection, bilked charities and was nearly impeached twice. Not fit for service.

by Anonymousreply 19October 23, 2024 8:58 PM
If God himself came down and said Trump was the wrong choice, MAGA would cry that He sold himself to the devil.

Fixed it for you, r6.

by Anonymousreply 20October 23, 2024 8:58 PM

Fuck this stupid noise.

Just get out and vote blue up and down the ballot.

by Anonymousreply 21October 23, 2024 8:59 PM

I think recordings of him saying the n-word would definitely sink him in the polls, but it wouldn’t end his campaign. He’s going to see this through no matter what comes out. And his followers won’t be convinced either.

by Anonymousreply 22October 23, 2024 9:01 PM

Notice how the whole 'deepfake' 'AI' thang blew-up bigly this year- right along with Turd's trials and campaign? As if they were poised to deny anything he did by blaming a 400 lb. incel in his mom's basement.

Then they couldn't resist using it on Kamala.

by Anonymousreply 23October 23, 2024 9:02 PM

Please, we heard the same thing about the grab em by the pussy tape. Americans are in a cult and have already voted.

by Anonymousreply 24October 23, 2024 9:04 PM

R22, it would not.

by Anonymousreply 25October 23, 2024 9:04 PM

Wake me up when they post something worth getting up for.

by Anonymousreply 26October 23, 2024 9:04 PM

R16, if that were the case they couldn’t release a video of it.

by Anonymousreply 27October 23, 2024 9:05 PM

But what could it possibly be? If they had tape of him raping an infant, MAGAts would just say the baby was a libtard and deserved it. If he called Kamala, Michelle O or even Melania and Ivanka cunts, his base would cheer. If evidence directly proving he'd taken money from Putin/Russia, all the media would say is "he has varied funding." Hell, if we had a porno with him, Shady, Josh Hawley and Harrison Butker in a fourgy, they'd hand him a gold-plated penis award at the adult video awards.

Maybe it was DonOld on the grassy knoll. Maybe Hitler is his biological father. Maybe he died and they've just been weekend-at-Bernie's-ing for months.

I saw the clip of Biden, Obama, and Clinton at the Ethel Kennedy memorial service in which their voices were all dubbed to say negative things using AI to mimic their voices. It sounded exactly like their real voice. That kind of thing may be what people are talking about.

SHIT OR GET OFF THE POT!!!

by Anonymousreply 39October 23, 2024 9:20 PM

It definitely will galvanize deplorable support r36, but it might convince black men who are considering voting for Dump to change their minds. But I don’t think releasing something like this would end his campaign. But it would be a nice bonus!

One thought did cross my mind—maybe this is why he’s been unhinged, combined with canceling a lot of appearances. But maybe it’s all just wishful thinking.

by Anonymousreply 40October 23, 2024 9:21 PM

R39, I. eke i’ve it’s “Piss or get off the pot”

by Anonymousreply 41October 23, 2024 9:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 42October 23, 2024 9:22 PM

His supporters are cult members. An audio or video recording of him saying or doing something horrible will be branded “fake news” by them.

The only way to eradicate his cult is to starve him of attention-when his antics stop generating clicks and ratings, the media will start to ignore him and he will go away.

Or he dies.

by Anonymousreply 43October 23, 2024 9:23 PM

I think the n-word would be problem for him. Not sure it would sink him because I'm not sure how big his black support is. I have no doubt the c word would cause no harm at all.

by Anonymousreply 44October 23, 2024 9:23 PM

Raping children

Taking bribes for pardons

Calling blacks ni@@ers

Selling classified secrets

Cheating n Melania

by Anonymousreply 45October 23, 2024 9:24 PM

Trump is already a convicted felon and his supporters don’t care.

by Anonymousreply 46October 23, 2024 9:27 PM

I can't imagine ANYTHING at all torpedoing his campaign. His audience doesn't care - especially about his past. All they care about is the stimulus check they got three years ago with his name on it.

by Anonymousreply 47October 23, 2024 9:27 PM

What could possibly be big enough to make an impact? He grabbed women by their pussy, and is best buddy with Vladimir Putin. Both is fine with his voters. Unless it's pending death, they would vote for him no matter what. Well let me correct that. Even if he is on his deathbed they will vote for him and call it fake news.

by Anonymousreply 53October 23, 2024 9:31 PM

Unless Trump literally killed someone with his bare hands, nothing will kill his campaign. I take that back, even THAT wouldn't kill his campaign.

by Anonymousreply 54October 23, 2024 9:34 PM

I guess what would be big is if a certified legit video or audio surfaced in which he ridicules his constituency and admits that he just leeching off of them. Other than that I see nothing being severe enough to make a dent.

by Anonymousreply 55October 23, 2024 9:35 PM

Some of yall sound demented. Trump lost in 2020. There a gazillion things that could his campaign.

by Anonymousreply 56October 23, 2024 9:36 PM

Donald Trump is on record as saying he could shoot somebody in broad daylight in the middle of Fifth Avenue in New York City and no one would do a damn thing about it.

And he's absolutely correct. If you need proof, just look at January 6, 2021. The mother fucker is still on the loose and has more than an outside chance of regaining the POTUS.

If anybody thinks a tape of him using the "n" word or raping virgin, underaged girls would cause him to lose the election, you are truly delusional.

by Anonymousreply 57October 23, 2024 9:36 PM

It depends how you divide Trump's base though.

Giving say 48% in a poll... no way all of that 48% is hard core MAGA. There are nose holders in there. You've only got to turn off enough of them to win them over for one cycle or depress their turnout on voting day. I'd love some polling to better understand the make up of the Republican vote share.

by Anonymousreply 58October 23, 2024 9:40 PM

These would be wonderful

by Anonymousreply 59October 23, 2024 9:41 PM

Nothing would surprise me about Trump. He’s a very awful person so there are probably hundreds of damaging things we don’t know.

by Anonymousreply 60October 23, 2024 9:44 PM

It won't make any difference. Trumpers will vote for him even if he kills a guy in the middle of Times Square.

by Anonymousreply 61October 23, 2024 9:46 PM

Whoever said up thread that if the bomb is that Trump planned his own assassination attempt?

I think that's about the only thing that might change at least a few Trumpster's minds.

by Anonymousreply 62October 23, 2024 9:46 PM

MAGAts wouldn't care if he raped their own wives/daughters. And the MSM would whitewash it.

by Anonymousreply 63October 23, 2024 9:47 PM

Even MAGA would dump him if he raped a 13 year old girl/boy.

by Anonymousreply 64October 23, 2024 9:47 PM

LOL... nothing will sink him, because nothing ever has.

i wonder what Jared and Ivanka think of the Hitler problem.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 65October 23, 2024 9:48 PM

Trump could shoot the kids of all of his MAGA cultists point blank in front of them and they would rationalize it. He would not lose one vote.

by Anonymousreply 66October 23, 2024 9:52 PM

A video of him performing an abortion on Ivanka and talking about how much he loves minorities and hates guns, while Putin can be seen in the background dropping off a large sack with a dollar sign on might JUST do it.

by Anonymousreply 67October 23, 2024 9:53 PM

R66, you aren’t wrong. Just listen to the sister of the Mexican woman who Trump didn’t want to pay the funeral for. She has no problem defending him.

by Anonymousreply 68October 23, 2024 9:54 PM

Yes many of the things Trump has said would have ended other political candidates but some of yall are forgetting the contexts in which he said those things. Trump said he could shoot somebody on 5th Avenue in regards to having been the Teflon don up until the point as it pertains to saying non PC shit. It was fiery sarcastic rhetoric of being anti-woke, anti-cancellation. His audience understands not to take that seriously, and I actually agree even though many other things he has said and done SHOULD have been taken seriously.

We have never had a presidential candidate(or president for that matter) like Trump. Trump was a celebrity prior to be president. And don’t bring up Ronald Reagan. Trump was an A-list celebrity, a household name, a brand ,not some washed up former B list hunk. 90% of America knew who Trump was 20 YEARS BEFORE he ever became president. The orange cunt set new territory that cannot be compared to regular politicians. And that’s what makes the motherfucker so dangerous. At any rate, he will be losing on November 5th.

by Anonymousreply 69October 23, 2024 9:58 PM

Some commenters here seem to think that all votes cast for Trump are votes cast by full-on MAGA Trump supporters.

In a national election many Americans with a shallow and minimal awareness of politics come out and vote. And many Americans who don’t like either candidate come out and vote.

And when it’s this close, losing just 3% to 5% of support is catastrophic.

by Anonymousreply 70October 23, 2024 10:02 PM

The rumor is he groped a major donor's underage daughter at a fundraiser last week and that it's on video.

by Anonymousreply 71October 23, 2024 10:06 PM

R64, he did rape a 13 year old girl. She begged him to use a condom and he said "I can do anything I want to you you stupid whore" and punched her in the face. That was in her deposition and it came out years ago. She went into hiding due to credible death threats. 13 years old. A child.

by Anonymousreply 72October 23, 2024 10:07 PM

A lot of this is coming from Mark Halperin, and people selectively quoting him. He did say he'd been pitched a story about something that would end Trump's campaign, but people are leaving out the rest:

Veteran political journalist Mark Halperin, who was among the first to report that President Biden would withdraw from the race in July, revealed on Tuesday that there is a "certain story" that has been pitched to major news outlets that — if true — could derail Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign in its final days.

Speaking on his "Morning Meeting" show on YouTube, Halperin shared that although he does not believe the story is accurate, its impact—if it were—would be the October Surprise the political media has been waiting for.

"I know of one story... I don't believe it is true. But if it's true, it would end Donald Trump's campaign," Halperin said, adding that he's aware of various efforts to influence the race's outcome with less than two weeks until Election Day.

by Anonymousreply 73October 23, 2024 10:07 PM

R71, that's very credible. He's always been a sexual predator. I'm the dementia just amplifies it. It might explain why they put him in time out

by Anonymousreply 74October 23, 2024 10:08 PM

R71 If so he’s toast. That would seal the deal. It would totally affect turnout on his side more so than making independents go KH.

by Anonymousreply 75October 23, 2024 10:09 PM

Oh Haleprin said he doesn’t believe it is true. Go home, folks. There is nothing to see here. I didn’t realize it was edited.

by Anonymousreply 82October 23, 2024 10:27 PM

The bigger issue is that now people will not believe their own eyes or ears because they'll assume it's a "deepfake."

Next, common criminals and murderers will be acquitted because deepfake.

We've entered a dangerous era. When the wealth and power of foreign governments like China and Russia, both of whom have the technical expertise to do this, it will be chaos - which is exactly what they want to destabilize the US.

Twitter points out that just yesterday Mark Halpern told his followers on Youtube that based on early voting, Trump will win.
"If the early vote numbers stay the way they are—and that's a big if—we'll almost certainly know before Election Day who's going to win," Halperin said.

So he's now trying to get out in front of a new story to pre-debunk it?

How readily did people believe the lie that the Hunter Biden laptop was “Russian propaganda”? You had many people on this site denying for a long time the reality of the laptop and what was in it. Even when forced to accept that it was Biden’s, people went into overdrive to deflect and try to defuse the situation. Wouldn’t the other side do the same with this mystery video?

Of course I'd love something to sink Trump's campaign, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

by Anonymousreply 106October 23, 2024 11:13 PM

The story about how the laptop came to be in MAGA’s possession was quite suss. My reaction was not so much “this is Russian misinformation,” but that it very well might have been. Leaving aside that Hunter’s laptop was really nobody’s business and his privacy was invaded.

Think about it. Nothing he has said, done, colluded with, endangered, slandered, slimed or made up whole cloth had any impact, not even crashing the economy in the worst failure of protecting the nation from a pandemic, which was a clear and present danger... but he's focused on trans people (specifically in swing states) so much in the last few weeks, it might just be his death knell. And it would be fitting that the issue that impacts so few people in reality would be [italic]the one issue[/italic] that could end Trump.

Halperin is just saying that the story is out there. He’s not the source of the story and does not even endorse it. I’m not sure what attacking him accomplishes here. MAGA propagandists are preemptively warning of AI-generated photos. They are not doing this because of Halperin.

If he dies or there really is something "campaign ending" about to come out, is Vance the nominee then?

by Anonymousreply 122October 24, 2024 12:14 AM

I think it would be up to the RNC to name a replacement, but Vance is the only option at this point.
Oh Haleprin said he doesn’t believe it is true. Go home, folks. There is nothing to see here. I didn’t realize it was edited.

I posted the first reference to Halperin's comment last night on his evening call. He didn't add his disbelief until his morning call today, something I duly noted in a subsequent post. Observing him for some time, I can state with some confidence that HE believes that, IF true, this story would kill Trump's campaign. There've been some suggestions here that already seemed baked in the cake and would not have the predicted effect. It would have to be something other than that. I like the suggestion of Trump planning his own assassination. Not because that has to be it, but it would have to be something of that magnitude.

by Anonymousreply 126October 24, 2024 12:20 AM

The medical records theory is interesting.

It's intriguing because its got to be something or accompanied by evidence you could fake and its got to be damaging.

Now we know his base will never go.

So what could render him ruined? It's got to be something that forces remaining "loyal" Republicans (some, enough) to abandon him (or creates the dilemma where they have to choose.) Does it seem faked? Or does it sound like something he'd say? These days, nothing is definitive.

It's got to be something that either threatens down ballot votes for Republicans or galvanizes votes against them, forcing Republicans to renounce him. It needs not just moral weight (because what's the worth these days?) but the credibility weight of the optics of Republicans finally abandoning him.

Or it's an elaborate hoax to psych out Republicans, his campaign and to get everybody talking about what would get everybody talking about what he could do or say that is that awful. Because there's damaging value in that, too.

If it's actually something, my money is video or audio of him saying something about either black people, Latinos or a national abortion ban.

R180 I agree. They just wont vote if they are miffed.

by Anonymousreply 182October 24, 2024 2:16 AM

No it wouldn't R176. His cult don't care about anything he says or does. Nothing will change their minds or cause them to stop supporting him. Literally nothing. They'll just laugh it off and say "Oh he's just joking" or "That's just Trump being Trump! - he's doing it for us because he loves us!"... "Who cares if Putin paid Trump millions of dollars for state secrets and favors. Putin is a great leader and Trump is just doing it to make America great again!" We've seen it time and time again.

The worse he behaves - the more they love him and support him. The more court cases which are brought against him - they more they love him. The more he insults and promises cruelty towards other people - they more they love him. The more racist he is - the more they love him. Anything they don't like they say is AI or fake news or taken out of context or he never said it.

Just repeating - there is [bold]nothing[/bold] Trump can say or do to change the cult's mind. And the rest of the Republicans are holding on to Trump for dear life because he's all they've got and nothing will change their minds either.

I'm very surprised so many people seem to be so clueless after all these years of Trump.

Are we really this clueless? Come on everyone. All the norms and rules we thought existed and operated under in the past no longer exist. Trump has decimated the GOP and has completely changed the rules of the American political landscape.

by Anonymousreply 186October 24, 2024 2:23 AM

This is how Trump & Co operate. They know how to manipulate the media and the electorate if nothing else. Get everybody talking about the NEXT thing constantly the next thing, the next thing, without giving oxygen to anything right in front of us. We're all wondering about this invisible question-mark thing instead of him literally praising Hitler's governance, instead of the thing before that and the thing before that.

by Anonymousreply 187October 24, 2024 2:28 AM

Again, this - if it is even a "this" - isn't about separating Trump from his hardcore MAGA base, who may make up as much as 30-35% of the electorate, but from the Republican "normies," the ones who initially abandoned him in the aftermath of J6. Their departure would be more than enough to effectively end Trump's campaign.

by Anonymousreply 188October 24, 2024 2:28 AM

by Anonymousreply 190October 24, 2024 2:31 AM

I hear dying elderly people say, "Oh, I have good days and bad days...". And doesn't that describe Trump? Each appearance is different.

by Anonymousreply 235October 24, 2024 4:53 PM

If it's video, someone prominent or close to Trump at the time would have to say it's real.

For example, many people heard Trump say the N word during his Apprentice shoots. A recording of that would have to come with people saying they heard him say it

by Anonymousreply 236October 24, 2024 5:22 PM

I just saw that crazy Santos has been promising on social media since yesterday that he has a bombshell about Harris.

by Anonymousreply 237October 24, 2024 5:55 PM

Well, if Santos says he has something, who could possibly doubt him?

by Anonymousreply 238October 24, 2024 5:56 PM

How do you know this R228?

by Anonymousreply 239October 24, 2024 6:00 PM

He has secret robot legs but they've rusted from all the dripping piss and diarrhea so he's just stuck.

by Anonymousreply 240October 24, 2024 6:06 PM

Here’s Santos. Obviously, no one should believe anything he says.

Those tapes do exist. Mark Burnett controls them and thus far has not indicated any inclination or willingness to do so., I am pretty sure other production related people also taped Dump with their phones during production of the fictional reality show he starred in. The "N" word is the least of it. Imagine this fat fuck without a filter thinking he's king of the world because Mark Burnett created the illusion of what he always wanted to be and never was: A successful, respected businessman

by Anonymousreply 242October 24, 2024 6:13 PM

Santos looks ill. Sad last days?

by Anonymousreply 243October 24, 2024 6:16 PM

Georgie got his lips done. Poorly.

by Anonymousreply 244October 24, 2024 6:17 PM

If there were a tape showing Trump using the N-word, few would be surprised. It might cost him some support (if he actually has any) from Blacks who have decided to excuse his obvious racism, but it would not end his candidacy.

by Anonymousreply 245October 24, 2024 6:17 PM

If they're planning to vote for Trump, Black men are already all in. This is so clearly not the "story" being peddled.

by Anonymousreply 246October 24, 2024 6:20 PM

Maybe they have him on tape making cruel perverted comments about a troubled female celebrity who was underage at the time.

by Anonymousreply 247October 24, 2024 6:25 PM

R247, that & the suggestion that Trump used the N-word? Could Mark Halperin seriously believe that could not possibly be true?

by Anonymousreply 248October 24, 2024 6:38 PM

Bitches, I hate to break it to you, but the media has long had an unofficial "rule" about not breaking any major reveals about a presidential candidate in the two weeks prior to an election. We are now past that point. (That said, James Comey admittedly violated the rule in 2016, but OTOH him doing so may be the REASON Hillary lost, considering how narrow Trump's victory was.)

The final October surprises – the Kelly interview & Atlantic article – landed on Tuesday. Barring something extreme even by Trump standards coming out – e.g. secret recordings of his phone calls with the love of his life, Vladimir, admitting that he hopes he defeats all the "Nazis" in Ukraine – that's likely the last major tidbits we'll get.

by Anonymousreply 249October 24, 2024 6:46 PM
the media has long had an unofficial "rule" about not breaking any major reveals about a presidential candidate in the two weeks prior to an election.

While I have no knowledge of the facts of or the veracity of the facts surrounding the Dump Gropes The Little Girl video, I can tell you that in this media climate the unofficial rule you cited is more of a guideline and the policy in normal times was the public interest comes first. If there is a properly sourced, verifiable story, there are no policies official or otherwise that the major networks share about a 2-week grace period. CNN and ABC are not the fucking DOJ, they are for profit competitive news organizations with a passing interest in the welfare of the country.

All that aside, if something comes out, say for example if some pituitary case overgrown eagle scout who works for the DOJ parades himself in front of cameras and departs not only from DOJ policy but infers criminality without charging a someone... lets call him JIm fucking Comey every media org covered that ad nauseum days not weeks before the 2016 election

Pedo

by Anonymousreply 252October 24, 2024 7:08 PM

I don’t even believe this alleged two-week rule exists as a guideline. The media’s obligation is to inform, not to protect campaigns.

by Anonymousreply 253October 24, 2024 7:10 PM
If there is a properly sourced, verifiable story, there are no policies official or otherwise that the major networks share about a 2-week grace period.

I LITERALLY WORK in the media. There is DEFINITELY an unofficial two-week pre-election window, and James Comey is a textbook example of its perils.

If it's a *legitimately* major, and correctly (and non-anonymously) sourced, story, that's one thing. But, again, short of a videotape of Trump assfucking Ivanka at age 12 or something similarly revolting even to Trumpists – a massive bar, to be sure – few such stories would qualify, e.g. whatever Trump's latest absurd conspiracy theory might be.

Btw "#KamalaGropedMe" was trending nearly all day yesterday on X thanks to Elon rigging the algorithms – and was explicitly pumped by Trumpists to try & dodge the Kelly reveals – but have you seen even a SINGLE news story about it?

by Anonymousreply 254October 24, 2024 7:18 PM

The "media" nowadays is far more than the traditional newspapers and TV channels. I'm sure if the story is juicy enough, someone will run it.

by Anonymousreply 255October 24, 2024 7:21 PM
I don’t even believe this alleged two-week rule exists as a guideline.

Have you already forgotten 2016 and Comey's "reopened FBI investigation" into Hillary's emails? I'm honestly not kidding that that may have singlehandedly ruined a Hillary victory – and it was what doomed America, along with much of the world, to the past eight years of hell. Democrats had a meltdown over it, and for good reason.

THAT is why it's in place. The Comey news was, of course, bullshit, and a "nothingburger" in fascist-speak.

by Anonymousreply 256October 24, 2024 7:21 PM

If there were something really terrible about Kamala out there, it would have been revealed a long time ago. Same for Trump--BUT if something has happened recently (like a brain tumor diagnosis) THAT would be news.

by Anonymousreply 257October 24, 2024 7:22 PM

Does anyone truly believe if Fox had some salacious stuff about Harris, it would honor the two week rule?

by Anonymousreply 258October 24, 2024 7:23 PM

No, i haven’t forgotten about it. In fact i was thinking about it as a counter-example to the alleged rule. Is it your contention that if the head of the FBI made such a statement today, the media would bury it?

by Anonymousreply 259October 24, 2024 7:25 PM

The media wants viewers. It will run anything at any time that will do that

by Anonymousreply 260October 24, 2024 7:27 PM
If it's a *legitimately* major, and correctly (and non-anonymously) sourced, story, that's one thing.

That's what wer are looking for babe, a fucking sourced and vetted story that fucking CBS news could report. Nobody is asking for an unsourced AI generated bullshit story. I don't know what you do when you are "LITERALLY WORKING IN THE MEDIA" but I have my doubts.

by Anonymousreply 261October 24, 2024 7:28 PM

BTW, Mark Halperin has also said there is something negative being peddled about Harris. In this instance, he believes it, but doesn't view it as a campaign killer.

by Anonymousreply 262October 24, 2024 7:31 PM
Does anyone truly believe if Fox had some salacious stuff about Harris, it would honor the two week rule?

Just to clarify: if anyone's going to violate this rule, it would ABSOLUTELY be Fox. (And they sure as fuck would report the Comey story if it was coming out this week about Harris.)
That's what wer are looking for babe, a fucking sourced and vetted story that fucking CBS news could report.

R261, the Comey story was "fucking sourced and vetted," and yet total bullshit that could've very well altered the outcome of the election. That alone is NOT enough. It needs to be sourced, vetted AND truly relevant.

by Anonymousreply 263October 24, 2024 7:33 PM

the Comey story DID alter the outcome of the election. Hillary's polls were trending upward right up until that Comey speech

by Anonymousreply 264October 24, 2024 7:36 PM

Vance is transitioning.

He’s been MIA for two weeks right at the big push for votes. Where is he?

by Anonymousreply 265October 24, 2024 7:45 PM

r263, what is your, um, role in the media?

by Anonymousreply 266October 24, 2024 7:45 PM

by Anonymousreply 267October 24, 2024 7:52 PM

R266, I'm anon for a reason, but not the one you're suggesting. I'm literally forbidden under the terms of my employment contract to state any political opinions under my actual name. I work in news, not opinion – the latter is why I come HERE.

by Anonymousreply 268October 24, 2024 7:52 PM

The Justice Department supposedly has such a practice (not followed by Comey), but I've never heard of the media having anything similar. If they know something and it meets their usual standards in terms of vetting their sources, they'll report it.

by Anonymousreply 269October 24, 2024 7:52 PM

Is it the "Katie Johnson" story, which dtrump& Epstein raped the 13-year-old Katie Johnson. Epstein was quoted as saying "he should have cum first because dtrump got to fuck the virgin first?

by Anonymousreply 270October 24, 2024 7:53 PM

To R249, there are no more rules in journalism-dtrump, the Rethuglican party, Fox news, Jim Comey killed it.

by Anonymousreply 271October 24, 2024 7:57 PM

The Reagan administration killed the rules by eliminating the Fairness Doctrine.

by Anonymousreply 272October 24, 2024 7:59 PM

R271, please feel free to name any huge stories that broke in the final two weeks of the 2020 election.

R272, the Fairness Doctrine was specific to over-the-air broadcasts, meaning cable was excluded. Given that CNN was surging in popularity when Reagan killed it in '87, I think it was the correct call – but it has nothing to do with the two-week rule. (And now broadcast TV is nearly dead, so it's archaic at this point.)

by Anonymousreply 273October 24, 2024 8:05 PM

So r254/r263 can’t be Melissa Murray? I saw her drop two DL references the other day on Nicolle’s show I think…

by Anonymousreply 274October 24, 2024 8:35 PM

Hillary was done in by Comey and the unreported Trump payoff to Stormy Daniels. Plus there was Russian interference.

The media today will not pay attention to any rule. If it’s a credible story they will report it.

by Anonymousreply 275October 24, 2024 8:40 PM

R275, again, the problem is stories that *seem* credible, but end up being absolutely nothing. Comey is still the textbook example. And yes, she very likely would've won even absent the Stormy Daniels reveal. Also, how TF do you define "credible" in the first place? (particularly when one of the two candidates LITERALLY says almost nothing credible, meaning truthful)

Btw if something huge drops about ANY candidate before Election Day, I'll walk back everything I've said here. Will you?

by Anonymousreply 276October 24, 2024 9:09 PM

The story will hit the mainstream media if it is well sourced and meets the journalistic standards required to defend its release. Nobody suggested the media would run the story half-assed without meeting those standards.

by Anonymousreply 277October 24, 2024 9:26 PM
The Reagan administration killed the rules by eliminating the Fairness Doctrine.

Wrong. Cable news would never be controlled by the Fairness Doctrine.

by Anonymousreply 278October 24, 2024 9:31 PM
R271], please feel free to name any huge stories that broke in the final two weeks of the 2020 election.

The absence of a big story in 2020 doesn’t mean there can’t be one.

The Epstein groping story just broke yesterday. If it had been anyone but Trump, that would be a big story.

by Anonymousreply 279October 24, 2024 9:35 PM

For all of you blaming James Comey, I truly believe he was set up and it was something else. Perhaps this....

by Anonymousreply 280October 24, 2024 9:37 PM

Quick explainer re: R278: the only reason network TV is so fussy & prissy – and also once used this "equal sides" silliness – is because over-the-air networks are regulated by the FCC, which can fine each network for violating any of their rules. IIRC they once fined ABC $750,000 solely for not bleeping out Bono saying "fuck" after he won a Grammy or something.

Since Republicans, of course, despise regulations, and cable TV fully came of age in the Reagan-Bush era, they never made any attempt to have the FCC regulate cable as well. I'd call this a mixed blessing: while thankfully you can say almost anything on cable nowadays, unfortunately this extends to Fox News as well. They would have to be FAR more careful about nearly everything they air if they had the FCC breathing down their necks.

While Reagan did kill the doctrine, it never existed in the first place on cable. Nonetheless, the network news broadcasts are far more straightforward than, say, MSNBC, which nowadays is mostly opinion-driven in terms of its best-known programming.

The FCC does regulate cable, but can’t regulate content, because, you know, the Constitution.

They have some authority over what is said on broadcast TV, that is, literally the shows sent from a broadcast tower, and that authority is over the local entity that sends the signal. That is because the airwaves are owned by the public.

by Anonymousreply 283October 24, 2024 10:16 PM

Yes, R283, I know. And I'm also wondering how this'll all work when "broadcast" TV disappears. At some point we'll have a "transition period" akin to the one where the FCC sent out converter boxes to everyone who still had an old-fashioned cathode ray-tube TV when they switched from analog to digital.

The next switch will remain digital, but it'll be a flip from cable to streaming. (You can already watch CBS & NBC live on Paramount+ and Peacock. Not sure why ABC hasn't followed suit.) While that will almost certainly bring up the issue of net neutrality again, that's all OT for purposes of this thread.

by Anonymousreply 284October 24, 2024 10:24 PM

In case you didn’t click on r282’s link, here’s a quote:

“ Dad [Trump] comes home and he’s pissed,” Carlson continues. “He’s not vengeful, he loves his children. Disobedient as they may be, he loves them … And when Dad gets home, you know what he says? You’ve been a bad girl. You’ve been a bad little girl and you’re getting a vigorous spanking right now. And no, it’s not going to hurt me more than it hurts you. No, it’s not. I’m not going to lie. It’s going to hurt you a lot more than it hurts me. And you earned this. You’re getting a vigorous spanking because you’ve been a bad girl, and it has to be this way.”

Carlson apparently has three adult daughters. Oh but he didn’t mean *them*, the so bad, very bad girl is the Democratic Party.

Maybe the “campaign-ending” video is Trump in bondage gear. Giving or receiving is uncertain.

by Anonymousreply 285October 24, 2024 10:43 PM

by Anonymousreply 286October 24, 2024 10:48 PM

In retrospect I do not think the Comey letter was what doomed Hillary. It simply gave people who already did not want to support her an excuse to turn on her.

The unfortunate truth is that during the 2008 primary, the Obama campaign (not Obama himself, but members of the campaign) embraced a certain level of ageism and misogyny to defeat Hillary and those seeds grew into the disastrous Bernie Bros in 2016. There has subsequently been a backlash to the Bros, especially because the KHive hates them and has been very efficient in combating them. We just have to hope it is enough.

Trump tanked the economy just like he’s tanked his own businesses a million times. It isn’t about the economy

by Anonymousreply 339October 25, 2024 8:28 PM

There was a breaking news alert from NYT an hour or so ago that the Chinese have apparently hacked Trump's and JD Vance's phones.

by Anonymousreply 340October 25, 2024 8:42 PM

Hillary looks awfully smooth at r316.

by Anonymousreply 341October 25, 2024 8:51 PM

Here is the piece, R340.
Bush did have a bad economy but it had recovered by 1992 and Bush lost because of Ross Perot.

As has been discussed elsewhere on DL, senior Bush's bad economy was NOT related to inflation, but a recession, one that was improving by the election, but the damage to his re-election was already baked in.

by Anonymousreply 343October 25, 2024 8:53 PM

R341, she didn't vie or the title of America's Moistest Woman without reason

by Anonymousreply 344October 25, 2024 8:53 PM

Knowing there’s a good chance that Trump will become President again, I don’t think the Chinese will leak anything scandalous from the phone calls and increase Trump’s animus toward them.

by Anonymousreply 345October 25, 2024 9:11 PM
I don’t think the Chinese will leak anything scandalous from the phone calls and increase Trump’s animus toward them.

Trump knows what is on his phone and apparently so do the Chinese, sometimes it is more effective to just hang on to the information you have than release it. Let Trump know that you know but just hang on to it. The way Putin has hung on to the pee tapes.

by Anonymousreply 346October 25, 2024 9:42 PM
WHY AREN'T I FIFTY POINTS AHEAD?!?

You know, why doesn't anyone ask this of Trump? Are the other 50% stupid?

by Anonymousreply 347October 25, 2024 9:44 PM

I dont think the Chinese actually want Trump to win, they like half of American think he's crazy and that scares them since he's finger is on the button. It's harder to negotiate or play chicken with a guy who's unhinged. It's easier to play chess when both sides respect the rules.

by Anonymousreply 348October 25, 2024 9:47 PM
No big ideas or vision associated with her.

Yes there are, r328.

He's gonna win. Might as well prepare ourselves for it.

by Anonymousreply 350October 25, 2024 9:53 PM
As has been discussed elsewhere on DL, senior Bush's bad economy was NOT related to inflation, but a recession, one that was improving by the election, but the damage to his re-election was already baked in.

Inflation peaked at 5.4% in 1990 and was over 4% in 1991. You can’t simply declare it irrelevant. It happened and he lost.

by Anonymousreply 351October 25, 2024 9:58 PM
Another nothing burger.

You’re missing the point. The news that Trump and Vance’s e-mails have been hacked by China is not the anticipated story, but rather a hint at what the story may be. What if China is trying to leak some of the information they have? That could be the story.

by Anonymousreply 352October 25, 2024 10:01 PM

Do try harder, r350.

by Anonymousreply 353October 25, 2024 10:02 PM

Try harder at what?

by Anonymousreply 354October 25, 2024 10:04 PM

Stop bumping this thread and giving everyone a false sense of hope that the bullshit OP posted is true. There’s plenty of other threads to discuss all the other unrelated dumb shit you’re talking about in here.

by Anonymousreply 355October 25, 2024 10:04 PM

I don't know about anybody else, but don't care for these 'teasers.' Either put up or shut up.

by Anonymousreply 356October 25, 2024 10:09 PM

There is a damning story being circulated that has the Trumpers very agitated and the media very wary. We may never know what it is, but its existence and the tea leaves (like the China hacking story) are interesting to some of us.

If that is not interesting to you, go away. I’m quite sure if the story ever breaks, you will not need to be here to hear about it.

by Anonymousreply 357October 25, 2024 10:16 PM

I agree with the poster above that the only thing that could destroy Trump’s campaign is proof of pedophilia. The MAGAts don’t care about him being a rapist (of adults), committing treason that results in multiple people’s death, or hiring Russian prostitutes to piss on him so it would have to be worse than any of that.

by Anonymousreply 358October 25, 2024 10:29 PM

I video of him stomping on a dog's head would do the trick too.

by Anonymousreply 359October 25, 2024 11:17 PM

Or eating one.

by Anonymousreply 360October 25, 2024 11:32 PM

There is no story!

There is no campaign busting scandal about to break!

This is bullshit put out by MAGA hoping to distract us from the Kelly statement and the new Republican endorsements for Harris.

With that out of the way continue the speculation. It’s always a good time smearing Trump.

by Anonymousreply 361October 25, 2024 11:39 PM

When people say things like, "There's no big vision or plan associated with Kamala Harris," I think two things. (1) They're not paying attention. And (2) their idea of an inspiring, visionary candidate is someone like Trump who spouts crazy slogans and takes them on an emotional roller-coaster ride.

They can't support a good, capable, articulate candidate who merely respects the Constitution and can handle the duties of office; they want a candidate who entertains them. The childish American voter who demands bread and circuses is going to doom us all.

by Anonymousreply 362October 25, 2024 11:40 PM

R362, it was the same shit with Dubya. Idiotic Americans voted for this slob because he seemed like a fun guy, someone you'd like to have a beer with, as opposed to the stuffed shirt Al Gore. And how did Bush's 8 years as president end? With the worst recession in the United States since the Great Depression and the near collapse of the US banking system.

You're voting for the President of the United States, one of the most powerful people in the world. You're not voting for prom queen or student council president, assholes.

by Anonymousreply 363October 25, 2024 11:49 PM
Inflation peaked at 5.4% in 1990 and was over 4% in 1991. You can’t simply declare it irrelevant. It happened and he lost.

In 1991, the inflation rate was 3.1%. In 1992, the election year, it was 2.9%. When Bush successfully ran in 1988, it was 4.4%. So for the 2nd half of his administration, inflation was not an issue. The recession was. I don't know how old you are, but I'm old enough to remember the recession of the early '90s.

by Anonymousreply 364October 26, 2024 12:25 AM

Bush 1 also lost because of "Read my lips, no new taxes" (thank you drunken old slag Peggy Noonan). And then he raised them, which pissed off the libertarian wing of the GOP who voted for crazy Ross Perot.

by Anonymousreply 365October 26, 2024 1:29 AM
In 1991, the inflation rate was 3.1%. In 1992, the election year, it was 2.9%.

The peaks I mentioned were accurate. The point I made was not that there has to be high inflation on Election Day. It was that if there was ANY high inflation in a President’s first term, he did not get a second term. That has been true my entire life, except for Reagan who was not blamed for high inflation that persisted from Carter’s term. And it is why today, despite record stock markets, the highest growth in the word, extremely low unemployment and other positive measures, the people overwhelmingly say the economy is bad. Because of higher prices. That is the only explanation for this perception.

by Anonymousreply 366October 26, 2024 1:40 AM

True, R365, but he was presumed sailing to easy reelection the spring of '91, after the Gulf War ended. It was the recession that gave Pat Buchanan the opening to challenge him for the nomination.

by Anonymousreply 367October 26, 2024 1:41 AM

I was around back then, people thought Bush was out of touch and not acknowledging the price of things and instead tried to totally side step it by talking about other issues. One protester showed up with a sign that said "IT'S THE ECONOMY STUPID!" and it went viral on all the network news channels at the time. That was the big turning point. It crystalized the mood of the country and he looked out of touch by not addressing it.

People still use that phrase today sometimes it was that pivotal.

by Anonymousreply 368October 27, 2024 12:29 PM

It wasn't a protester, R368.

"The economy, stupid" is a phrase that was coined by Jim Carville in 1992. It is often quoted from a televised quip by Carville as "It’s the economy, stupid." Carville was a strategist in Bill Clinton's successful 1992 U.S. presidential election against incumbent George H. W. Bush. His phrase was directed at the campaign's workers and intended as one of three messages for them to focus on. The others were "Change vs. more of the same" and "Don't forget health care."

by Anonymousreply 369October 27, 2024 12:32 PM

The country was in a recession, that eased in early 1991 (March to be specific). From Google: Consumers (CPI-U) increased 3.1 percent in 1991, following a 6.1-percent advance in 1990. ' The 1991 price rise was the lowest annual rate of increase since a 1.1-percent ad vance was posted in 1986, and the second smallest since 1967.

by Anonymousreply 370October 27, 2024 2:10 PM

The key statistic in that post is “a 6.1-percent advance in 1990.” My argument is that a surge in prices is “sticky.” People may be relieved that prices later stopped climbing as fast, but the prices generally don’t come back down after they stop soaring. They stay up. And voters (wrongly) blame the President. Prices become a powerful symbol for the economy, because they affect everyone.

Ford, Carter, Bush all were defeated and Harris (who likely has inherited the illogical blame Biden carries) is doing much worse in the polls even against the unpopular and disgraced Trump.

In all cases there were other factors at play, but higher prices are a powerful headwind against an incumbent.

by Anonymousreply 371October 27, 2024 2:20 PM

^worse than she should against a tired, defeated, old challenger.

by Anonymousreply 372October 27, 2024 2:23 PM
Bush 1 also lost because of "Read my lips, no new taxes"

Which wasn't agood thing to say because most people can't read lips.

by Anonymousreply 373October 27, 2024 2:24 PM
My argument is that a surge in prices is “sticky.” People may be relieved that prices later stopped climbing as fast, but the prices generally don’t come back down after they stop soaring. They stay up. And voters (wrongly) blame the President.

No one bothered to tell that to the many top-tiered Democrats who, in 1991, took a pass on a presidential run because they then thought Bush unbeatable.

by Anonymousreply 374October 27, 2024 2:28 PM

I see the Rupert Murdoch squad his landed on this thread.

by Anonymousreply 375October 27, 2024 2:33 PM

R371, she is not doing “much worse” in the polls, she actually is even with Dump re trust with the economy.

by Anonymousreply 376October 27, 2024 2:45 PM

I think it’s too late for any October Surprise, whether against Trump or Harris

by Anonymousreply 377October 27, 2024 2:49 PM

Much worse than she should be doing consider the otherwise strong economy, abortion, and Trump’s weakness as a candidate.

by Anonymousreply 378October 27, 2024 2:50 PM

R378… let’s talk about the elephant in the room. She is a black woman. If she were an equivalent white male, running the same campaign she’s been running, Dump would have already rolled over and played dead.

She really has, so far, run an excellent campaign.

by Anonymousreply 379October 27, 2024 2:56 PM
I think it’s too late for any October Surprise, whether against Trump or Harris

Not so.

by Anonymousreply 380October 27, 2024 2:59 PM

There are lots of factors at play, both in terms of the candidates and the issues, but I think past inflation is the reason most people say the economy is weak when it is actually quite strong, and the economy is always the most important issue.

by Anonymousreply 381October 27, 2024 3:03 PM

Kamala should be borrowing a page from the financial industry and point out that "past performance is no guarantee of future results." I've heard so many people say a variation of, "All I know is my grocery bill was much lower under Trump." That means nothing for what prices will be the next four years.

by Anonymousreply 382October 27, 2024 3:13 PM

We're about to find out 80 million American voters despise democracy, despise freedom, despise everything America has stood for the last 250 years and love a pissy, arrogant, self-absorbed egomaniac with the emotional maturity of an 11 year old and want him as a dictator for life.

by Anonymousreply 383October 27, 2024 3:19 PM

I think for a lot of MAGA (and let's be fair, some on the far left like the TikTokers for Palestine), the world is just too complex to comprehend. And putting in the work of reading credible sources to learn what's really going on is too hard for them. Better to sit back and let the dictator/Daddy make all of the decisions (as long as he takes care of them and their tribe). They want a simple answer to everything but life doesn't work that way.

That makes more sense than the groping take. Trump groping is baked in.

by Anonymousreply 387October 27, 2024 3:43 PM

The "assassination" attempt was some sort of twisted Trump publicity stunt that went awry, R385.

Who didn't know that? I knew as soon as I heard about it that the whole thing smelled like week old fish left out in the sun.

And the fact that numerous trolls were working overtime to discredit anybody who suggested it was fake only hardened my belief it was fake.

by Anonymousreply 388October 27, 2024 3:45 PM

Hopefully Kamala will win and all this dirt will come out afterward. Good lord, if that is what happened in Butler, and Dump knew, they need to walk him off in handcuffs.

by Anonymousreply 389October 27, 2024 3:45 PM

There is something very weird about the assassination attempt. I can’t get over the people who got shot - I can’t believe even Republicans would do that. But Trump’s fist pump, his low key attitude about it, and the embarrassingly bad Secret Service response, plus the imperceptible graze. It just seems out of a script.

by Anonymousreply 390October 27, 2024 3:46 PM

The October Surprise is that Trump is a Reality Show Candidate who is detached from reality.

Trump is all about his numbers.

Even if it means 600 THOUSAND Americans die from Covid.

by Anonymousreply 391October 27, 2024 3:51 PM
And the fact that numerous trolls were working overtime to discredit anybody who suggested it was fake only hardened my belief it was fake.

I was one of those "trolls."

by Anonymousreply 392October 27, 2024 3:53 PM

I don’t believe the assassination attempt was staged. Trump would surely be willing to sacrifice a few supporters, but he couldn’t do it alone and someone would have talked.

There’s a reason this story has not seen the light of day.

by Anonymousreply 393October 27, 2024 3:53 PM

The attempt may have been real, but the bullet graze was nonsense. Trump knew that he wasn't hit in any way, but by a fingernail of an SS agent

by Anonymousreply 394October 27, 2024 3:58 PM
There’s a reason this story has not seen the light of day.

Only time will tell!

by Anonymousreply 395October 27, 2024 4:04 PM

The Butler Orchestrated Assassination Attempt was a made for TV event made possible by a Secret Service who COORDINATED the "attempt". Nobody told The Shooter it was orchestrated. He was to be "discovered" right before he was supposed to shoot.

Plan B was to kill the shooter and leave no evidence.

Did anyone figure out that The Shooter was cast? He never expected to die. But knowing Republicans, he was expected to die AFTER a FAKED FAILED attempt.

The Secret Service, all of those men with the sanitized cell phones from 1/6 need to be indicted for treason.

by Anonymousreply 396October 27, 2024 4:04 PM

Anyone with a brain already thinks as much R385/R386. Nothing would surprise me now.

If it's concrete and credible proof that it was staged then I don't understand why the press won't touch it. Therefore, it must not be credible - they would run it otherwise.

I still don't think it would make one iota of difference to Trump's numbers or supporters. They will just say it's fake news, already been debunked, a Democrat plot or that it's just Trump being Trump - what a huge joker he is.

by Anonymousreply 397October 27, 2024 4:14 PM
I still don't think it would make one iota of difference to Trump's numbers or supporters.

Please remember nobody in the Harris campaign is putting energy or attention on Dump supporters, they are gone, lost and irretrievable. The Harris Campaign is laser focused (increasingly successfully) only on persuadable voters. A very narrowband of the electorate, but in this cycle they are an impactful demographic.

.

by Anonymousreply 398October 27, 2024 4:20 PM

R386, isn't it scary how staging an assassination attempt is worse than groping an 11 year old?

R398, is correct. Someone told me yesterday he's not voting for a best friend; just someone who can make the economy better.

But there's nothing you can say to change anyone's mind. I can ask how's the stock market doing? They say, "Wellllll, you have to look at the big picture...." (Meaning it's doing great but Biden will get no credit for this.)

What's Kamala done in her four years as VP? You can reply with what did Trump do in his four years as President? Why didn't Mexico pay for the wall? Why didn't it get built? What's his health plan? What about his former cabinet members saying he shouldn't be president ever again?

No. Nada. Nothing is ever going to change anyone's mind.

Even if it's not close and Kamala wins by a landslide, he'll say it was stolen. There will be problems -- who knows to what degree?

Isn't he going to be sentenced in late November? What a mess.

by Anonymousreply 399October 27, 2024 4:28 PM

Yes I do know and remember that R398. But it's also not going to make any difference to the minute amount of persuadable voters or undecided voters out there either. All those people care about is the economy and tax breaks. I call the them "what's in it for me" voters and they don't care about anything except money and they think Trump is better for their bottom line.

by Anonymousreply 400October 27, 2024 4:31 PM
If it's concrete and credible proof that it was staged then I don't understand why the press won't touch it. Therefore, it must not be credible - they would run it otherwise.

Agreed. There would have to be incontrovertible proof. Any less, and the resulting backlash would redound to Trump's benefit.

by Anonymousreply 401October 27, 2024 4:34 PM

They would deny incontrovertible proof without batting an eye. Loudly and aggressively. If you watched JD Vance face off Jake Tapper, when Tapper literally quotes Trump and Vance just attacks him, you have a preview of the possible dystopia we face,

by Anonymousreply 402October 27, 2024 4:41 PM

Exactly R402.

by Anonymousreply 403October 27, 2024 4:45 PM

Or watch Megyn Kelly on Bill Maher. “Republicans have been called fascists for years” is her answer to Miley and Kelly.

by Anonymousreply 404October 27, 2024 4:46 PM
All those people care about is the economy and tax breaks. I call the them "what's in it for me" voters and they don't care about anything except money and they think Trump is better for their bottom line.

You have to look at why people remain undecided at this late stage and with all the evidence of failure, lies and demonstrated incompetence from Donald Dump. You mention the economy and taxes as this demo's main concern. I believe it also expands to Dobbs/ Abortion rights and Democracy/avoiding a dictatorship.

If people were not persuadable on those issues, they would not BE undecided. That is where both campaigns are focused but in very different ways. So even in if your premise is true, most undecideds are not committed to either candidate. Statistically, they lean 2-1 to Harris. I believe Harris is making the more successful play for these voters based on the data I have seen. There is also data NOBODY has seen because it hasn't been captured, so we will see ...

by Anonymousreply 405October 27, 2024 4:51 PM

An investigation into the 1st Trump assassination attempt will expose Trump's total control of his Secret Service detail as the seeds of his own private army.

by Anonymousreply 406October 27, 2024 4:54 PM

“They” would deny incontrovertible proof. But there are other, more persuadable, voters who would not.

by Anonymousreply 407October 27, 2024 4:57 PM

Isn’t it possible the shooter’s father is the one with plausible evidence?

Usually comedy is rooted in truth. The joke doesn’t even work because PR is not popularly known as a shithole. It’s a US territory, it doesn’t have high crime like a lot of the Caribbean islands, it’s not impoverished. It may not be the most advanced society but it’s widely known as an island full of beautiful people and the simple life. Mean spirited jokes ONLY work when it has something that connects it to reality. Just seems like a dumb cracka millennial who said hmm PR—brown people,—island—garbage, I’m edgy. But the shit corny.

To all those Republicans who shed crocodile tears because their feelings were so hurt that people were calling Donald Trump a fascist: Stop.

To all the MAGA defenders who said it was over-the-top to compare Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally to that held by the German-American Bund in an earlier incarnation of Madison Square Garden: Shush.

To all those who were falling once again for the bought-and-paid-for narrative that Trump somehow had the momentum going into the final week of campaign 2024: Nope.

On Sunday at MSG, Donald Trump engineered what will be seen by political analysts and later by historians as the coup de grâce that killed forever his prospects of being president and may well have set him on a post-election course on which he finally may be held accountable for his actions.

The interminable rally concluded by an interminable, disjointed, incoherent and yet clearly vile speech by the former president, might have been touted by Trump’s son Don Jr., one of his warm-up acts, as the “King of New York returning to reclaim his crown.” But Trump was never the King of New York. (Sorry, Lara, your father-in-law did not “build” New York. Immigrants did. But we’ll get to that in a minute.)

Trump has always been loathed in New York City, especially in his former home borough of Manhattan where the vote against him was and will be dependably over 80 percent. But if he was hated before, rest assured he will be more despised after tonight.

That was clear early on when Tony Hinchcliffe, a man invited by Trump to give one of the introductory speeches—who in true MAGA fashion alleged without providing a shred of evidence that he was a comedian—offered a KKK buffet of nauseating slurs. He called Puerto Rico “a floating island of garbage.”

The “joke” was as stupid as it was repulsive because there are almost 600,000 Puerto Ricans in New York City and many more spread across regions of vital importance in the upcoming election. It also happened to come on a day when Vice President Kamala Harris announced her detailed and thoughtful plan for Puerto Rico, an island Trump wanted to trade to Denmark in exchange for Greenland.

But this loser did not stop there. He offered unfunny commentary about his view that Latinos “love making babies” and a reference to how his Black friends liked carving watermelons.

You might think that a few super-racist comments from one speaker might not warrant comments that compared the Trump rally to the Nazi meeting 85 years ago. But his comments were hardly the worst. And the racism and the hate and incitement to violence and the promise of an increasingly authoritarian state continued from the very beginning of the event to the very end.

One speaker said that Harris was managed by “pimp handlers” and said of Democrats that “we need to slaughter these other people.” Disgraced and destitute former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani said, as did several others, that Democrats were behind attempts to kill Donald Trump. Another speaker called Harris “the devil” and “the antichrist.”

Former Trump aide Stephen Miller, as is his habit, went directly for the Nazi playbook saying, “America is for Americans and Americans only.” Tucker Carlson came out to offer more racist slurs about Harris. Hulk Hogan ripped his shirt off while declaring he saw no Nazis in the audience (thus proving that steroid abuse can not only shrivel up your junk but that it’s not really good for your eyesight either).

Elon Musk was there acting strangely and promising to slash the size of the government (except, presumably, the parts that are subsidizing his businesses).

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 444October 28, 2024 4:09 PM

As an aside, it is worth noting the irony of Musk appearing at a rally condemning illegal immigration when recent revelations seem to confirm that he himself was an illegal immigrant. That’s not just hypocrisy. If he lied about any aspect of his citizenship status or journey when filling out the forms required to get the Top Secret clearance that this phone pal of Vladimir Putin has, it’s a felony and could not only cause his clearances to be revoked it could be bad news for his businesses and frankly his ability to stay in the United States. No wonder he is all in for the only “politician” in America who would pardon his crimes in a heartbeat.

Trump attacked the media, and egged the crowd on to boo journalists in the crowd. He said migrants had taken over Times Square (which is nine blocks uptown from where the rally was held). He called the U.S. an occupied country which, while bad, may be better than his reference to it as a garbage can the other day. He called Harris a “low-IQ individual.” He offered so many lies that cable networks tuned him out because it was impossible to keep up with fact-checking him. He returned to old themes like the bizarre notion that Harris would reinstate the draft and start World War III.

Most importantly from the perspective of confirming his fascism he reiterated at length his assertion that his opponents were “enemies of the people.” (You know the ones against whom he promised to unleash the U.S. military.) He called them “the most sinister and corrupt forces on Earth.”

In other words the entire event, despite its marathon length and hodgepodge of z-list speakers, delivered over and over again a very focused message. The Trump campaign is about retribution and revenge. It is about the white supremacist desire to purge America of all their neighbors of different colors and beliefs. It is about Trump’s desire to seek out his enemies and punish them. And over the course of its Wagnerian length (and resonances) it singled out group after group that would be deported or punished.

From a political perspective the strategy is pure suicide. The rally will almost certainly alienate more voters who might have voted for Trump and it is hard to imagine it has earned him one single new vote. (Unless there is a Franz Liebkind somewhere who has been too busy writing “Springtime for Hitler” to have paid attention to the campaign until now.) It was a play to the base when the biggest problem Trump has in this election is breaking through his rock solid ceiling of around 47 percent of the electorate.

But worse still, unlike the Bund rally, Trump’s was not a fringe affair. It was led by a former President of the United States on behalf of very nearly half of the American people.

Its threats of authoritarianism were supported by efforts during the first Trump presidency to sidestep the rule of law and by crimes including a coup attempt we all saw with our own eyes. Its future plans for concentration camps in the U.S. and for mass deportations and the use of the military against the American people have been carefully developed, and there is a plan to put them in place.

That is why Trump’s Sunday rally at Madison Square Garden was, as it turned out, far more ominous than its predecessor. It should chill Americans to the bone. But, I expect it will do more than that. I believe it will mobilize more voters to take action on Nov. 5 to stop the 21st-century fascism of Trump and MAGA.

Trump may be thinking the rally will help him mobilize thugs to violence when he contests his loss and we should be wary of that. But he has provided on the eve of the election the best case why he must be defeated that has ever been presented. In the end, because what unfolded was so foul and so offensive and threatening to so many of us, I believe that is why we will someday conclude that for all intents and purposes Trump’s final political act occurred on the biggest stage in America’s biggest city, a couple of blocks from Broadway.

Trump’s campaign has completely run out of steam. It’s so embarrassing. They never recalibrated after Joe Biden left the race and mostly just campaigned as if he were still running against him. I mean, they never even trued to run against Harris, stooping so low a few weeks ago to calling her “retarded” and then this past week referring to her as a “cunt.” I mean, that’s not a serious campaign.

And the failure to really inspire anybody also extends to the people around him. Sure, the corporate media is still doing their “oh, we have so much to fear, even if Trump wins he’s going to take elections away from us!” bullshit. And while it’s good to be prepared for any shenanigans, for sure, I expect he’ll be put down hard next week and people aren’t going to want to stick their necks out for him. There would be a much greater threat if he were a formidable figure instead of just a sundowning dotard.

And yes, SCOTUS “decided” in favour of Youngkin in VA today but 1200 votes isn’t going to swing an election and there’s a good chance they disenfranchised their own voters too. The whole thing is so stupid - I can tell you, the reason they decided in favour was because it was originally filed just outside the 90 day window but when it was first ruled on, it was already inside that window. So it was borderline. Those voters can re-register and vote on the day or will probably check their voting registrations today if they’re Democrats and re-register, etc. It’s a stupid technicality. If SCOTUS decides any big cases. they’ll have to write rulings, etc. they’ll have to really take ownership and how wiling will the majority of them be willing to do that if Trump doesn’t have a chance in hell of winning? Bush v Gore was about 536 votes - it would face to be that close for them to get involved. All this other stuff is just scare mongering.

Most people - including a lot of people in the GOP - are ready to move on and dispose of Trump. And the down ballot results are going to be really painful. He has done NOTHING for them. Nothing.

by Anonymousreply 486October 31, 2024 2:31 AM

Each of these absolutes have come into serious question.

"Another high-volume polling day, so we’ve got a second update for you. Kamala Harris got some good results in Michigan and Wisconsin from CNN and Fox. But both firms showed a tied race in Pennsylvania."

"12 p.m., Wednesday, October 30. Some better national polls for Kamala Harris today, but the state polls are the usual mixed bag, with everyone pretty much showing a tie or +1 in either direction and not much variation."

National: Harris is now down to a 1.1% lead

Change from last month: Trump + 2.1
but we’ve seen that Trump’s imitators & would-be successors just don’t have his influence.

They don't have his charisma or news cycle savvy R535. None of his family do either even though the MAGA cult want them all to be POTUS successively. None of them are up to it. Thank fuck for that.

Someone like nasty, lying Vance will take over the reigns next but whoever it is will never have the charisma of Trump. Once Trump dies (which can't happen soon enough) it will be interesting to see if the GOP fractures and is forced to reinvent itself all over again.
but we’ve seen that Trump’s imitators & would-be successors just don’t have his influence.

They don't need it. If he wins the vote, they'll quickly make the changes that mean you're stuck with whoever they want to give you. Which part of "end of democracy" are you having trouble with?

by Anonymousreply 541October 31, 2024 1:45 PM

You do realize the US constitution is not easily amended right. And that states have many powers not shared with the federal government. Trump is going to create havoc but it won’t be the end of democracy.

by Anonymousreply 542October 31, 2024 1:51 PM
Which part of "end of democracy" are you having trouble with?

Ah, R541, context can be everything. My response about Trump’s imitators & would-be successors not having his influence was in response to the claim that "[n]o one seems to understand it doesn't matter who wins." If Trump doesn't win, the end of democracy is not so nigh.

by Anonymousreply 543October 31, 2024 2:07 PM

Fair enough, R543.

R542 doesn't seem to understand how autocracy works. I'm guessing 49% of Americans don't, if the polls are right.

The US Constitution may not be easily amended, but it is very easily torn up and thrown out the window by a President who has never read it and has the army on his side. (As you will be too if you wave it around in protest.) With regard to the States, I don't know how they plan to drag New York and California to the party, but a whole lot of others will welcome the proceedings.

by Anonymousreply 544October 31, 2024 2:19 PM
Looking at the last 14 national polls, Trump had 48, 49, 50, or 51 in 10 of them. You need to refresh your facts.

Facts refreshed, Polls are not votes. If you look at the actual percentage of votes Dump has received (since Dump took over the Republican Party and morphed it into a fascist personality cult), You will see he has only won ONE, that is ONE election by razor-thin margins (77k votes over 3 states)

He lost the fascists meaningful victories in every cycle since including the famously poorly polled 2022 midterm where the red wave predicted did not manifest. FAILED despite the spirited and energetic wish casting of every Fascist/Republican party surrogates. THUD, bad numbers pushed by bad fucking people with bad fucking intentions.

Beyond that, I can offer you the following: There are polls and statistics that are "Designer Polls" created to offer a bespoke dopamine experience to those who favor democracy (Harris) and those who do not favor democracy and would like to give fascism and autocracy a shot, with the singularly most unqualified, repulsive, disordered, cognitively deficient, nasty piece of work in the history of American politics. Which group do you belong to?

There are also polls, many of them created to move averages and cast doubt on the election results. These polls are EXCLUSIVELY created and funded by Dump and Dump adherents and they are doing this for seriously nefarious reasons.

The Orange Human Pustule does not care about you and would crush your skull just to get a quarter pounder with cheese. If you believe otherwise, I wish you well

by Anonymousreply 545October 31, 2024 2:28 PM
There are also polls, many of them created to move averages and cast doubt on the election results.

Among the polls that proved you wrong about Trump’s percentage are CBS News, NYT, Emerson, WSJ, Forbes, CNBC, and USA Today. You’re generating your disinformation based on your emotion and not the facts.

by Anonymousreply 546October 31, 2024 3:13 PM
Facts refreshed, Polls are not votes.

I'm hoping that's right. A poll is what you tell the guy on the other end of the phone you think. A vote is something much different. Who comes out. Who doesn't come out. What they do when they get there. Last minute changes of heart. Events that make you rethink. I think there's a good chance the polling could be wrong, at least the public polling. The internals we always hear about are much more finely tuned than the public polls, which are comparatively crude instruments.

Like everybody, I don't know what happens but I think it is likely she squeaks out a win and I don't discount a solid win or maybe an Obama landslide-ish. (Longest of shots, I grant you.)

I keep saying it: you watch Florida on election night. The closer that is, the likelier I think it is there's been something going on the polls couldn't find and the likelier it favours Harris.

by Anonymousreply 547October 31, 2024 3:14 PM

I enjoy the way you write, r545.

by Anonymousreply 548October 31, 2024 3:18 PM

Are you better off now or were you better off 4 years ago?

That is the question most voters will be asking themselves.

They'll come to their own conclusion about that.

Fox News has nothing to do with it.
It wasn’t Putin. Who was it?

If you total the primetime ratings for CNN and MSNBC,, the total beats FoxNews viewership.

Sean Hannity gets around 3 million viewers on his show.

But on network news, David Muir gets around 7.5 million viewers. Now add CBS and NBC to that..

There is no contest. FOX is CREAMED in the ratings compared to them.

The US televised media leans left.

The Putin fetish some of you have is absurd.

by Anonymousreply 549October 31, 2024 3:50 PM

I think there are just enough voters smart enough to ask themselves: Do I really want more Trump?

I really do. I don't think the better off question is the only consideration for everybody, this time.

by Anonymousreply 557October 31, 2024 4:15 PM

R554 You are quite the idiot aren't you?

ALL legitimate polls have been showing the SAME results: the election will be a toss-up.

And did you read the last paragraph of the ridiculous article you posted?

"Is all this working? The keepers of the averages say yes. G. Elliott Morris, who runs FiveThirtyEight, recently calculated that if the averages only include high-quality polls—and not GOP-aligned ones—the results are in some states less than one-half a point different. The Times’ Cohn, who recently acknowledged that we’re seeing a “deluge of polls from Republican-leaning firms” in the averages, ran a similar calculation and found the results moving only imperceptibly."

"We see no reason to doubt the accuracy of those calculations. If news consumers are going to trust the curation of high-quality polls that outlets like FiveThirtyEight conduct, then it’s also understandable if they give some weight to these reassurances. And given the larger context here—that is, how inexact a science even high-quality polling tends to be—one can see why aggregators would suggest that tiny shifts in the averages, even ones seeded by GOP polls, don’t warrant too much concern."

Note the words: "don’t warrant too much concern."

by Anonymousreply 558October 31, 2024 4:17 PM
You aren't fooling anybody, [R553].

Do your own research Bozo. The polls were accurate in 2022.

ABC News 538 MAR. 10, 2023 : "The Polls Were Historically Accurate In 2022"

" Despite a loud chorus of naysayers claiming that the polls were either underestimating Democratic support or biased yet again against Republicans, the polls were more accurate in 2022 than in any cycle since at least 1998, with almost no bias toward either party."

NYTimes July 12th, 2023: "Polls Were Great in 2022. Can They Repeat Their Success in 2024?"

The incontrovertible fact, r558 is that Dump has been running for President since 2016 and he has only won 1 election, and he won that narrowly. VERY narrowly. He was a loser in 2000, 2022 and has sunk plenty of boats that attached themselves to his current.

That is the basis of my argument, he's an electoral loser. Your support of that is your business and in my view, your damage. I also think you are smarter and probably have a better brain that your choices are reflecting. If you find that condescending, fuck you, you earned the condescension.

Feel free to plug your head up the ass of someone who, as I said earlier, would crush your skull to get near quarter ponder with cheese. Feel free to continue to argue about polls though your guy, your special man, keeps being a losing proposition for the party and his followers.

The FACT is the GOP backed polls have had virtually no influence on the polling averages.

a polling error isn't just getting the number wrong, it is failing to capture issues and elements that are important to voters and that make a voter motivated to cast a ballot. I'd be willing to bet Dobbs is a motivating factor for many new and first time voters this year.

The fact that Dump is focusing so much effort on turning out low propensity voter groups like young men is indicative of their awareness of how poor their chances are motivating higher propensity voting groups.

Stay positive and vote and if you can, help others vote who need assistance.

by Anonymousreply 587October 31, 2024 5:55 PM

Dobbs is crime, healthcare, the economy, and unwanted newcomers eating up your family’s future all rolled up into one big single issue for women.

Polling firms have a more direct approach. To find out how motivated a person is to vote, they ask them how motivated they are to vote. It’s a more efficient, and probably more effective, approach.

Trump would never do that.

There's war in the Middle East and between Russia and Ukraine that Biden/Harris are giving billions of dollars to.

There were no wars with Trump.

Trump has focused on policies.
