I’m disappointed it wasn’t a Funny Passing.

Love her ketchup.

I was thinking she died earlier in the year, then I realized I was confusing her with Mitzi McCall. I remember Mimi and her pronounced overbite.

Bad year for Mimis and Mitzis.

That's two old musical actresses in the past week. Who will be number 3 ? (Carol Burnett better sleep with one eye open !)

Mimi Hines (July 17, 1933 – October 21, 2024) was a Canadian actress, singer, and comedian, best known for her appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, The Tonight Show and her work on Broadway. She succeeded Barbra Streisand in the original production of Funny Girl.

Between Mimi and Mitzi, Susan Dey is overwhelmed.

Lanie Kazan was Barbra Streisand's understudy in 'Funny Girl' on Broadway. When Streisand left the show, why did Mimi Hines get the lead role and not Lanie?

Also, did Lanie continue as understudy to Mimi, or did Lanie leave the show as well.?

by Anonymousreply 9October 22, 2024 2:34 AM

I loved her cake mixes.

Kazan was fired as Barbra's "Funny Girl" understudy in February/65, and replaced by Linda Gerard. In December/65, Barbra left and Hines took over, and Hines' then husband Phil Ford replaced Danny Meehan as Eddy. Gerard was Hines' understudy.

First Caterina Valente, then Mitzi Gaynor and now Mimi Hines. I can’t take it!!!!

They are playing Taps for her, at the Montana.

by Anonymousreply 14October 22, 2024 5:03 AM

She was no Mimi Rogers.

by Anonymousreply 15October 22, 2024 5:05 AM

Mimi...known for her overbite.

by Anonymousreply 16October 22, 2024 5:05 AM

Mimi seems too pretty to play Fanny Brice - who really was an A #1 Dog.

Babs was good for that.

by Anonymousreply 19October 22, 2024 5:47 AM

She had a frying pan face.

Speaking of faces, does that host @ r18 - Brian Linehan from City Lights - have an extreme nose job, or is he a former boxer who got it flattened in the ring??

by Anonymousreply 21October 22, 2024 5:58 AM

Maybe he is just pug ugly.

by Anonymousreply 22October 22, 2024 6:01 AM

Oh no! How did she die?

by Anonymousreply 23October 22, 2024 7:23 AM

Another nonagenarian fighting a fire on an oil rig, R23. When will they ever learn?

A NY times theater reporter happened to be sitting in the audience when Lainie filled in for Streisand. Lainie was so good, that the paper decided to review the show again and raved over Lainie's performance. This ruffled Babula's feathers, and Kazan was fired from the show.

Mimi Hines also got raves and kept the show running for quite some time.

Of course, Streusel never speaks about any of this.

Those are her brother Duncan's.

I think the rest of her family predeceased her.

I’ll be sure to go to her viewing and shit in her wig.

by Anonymousreply 30October 23, 2024 1:44 AM

Fuck you, R20. That clip confirms my memory of the live performance I attended -- Miss Hines stopped the show cold with that number. I was astonished by how much voice she still had, with vaudevillian timing fully intact. A thrilling turn in an evening that had several of them.
