Did any of you know Charles Pierce or see him live?

Such a shame so many never heard of him. He was hilarious.

Brilliant performer. Apparently, the title character in the book “Better Davis and Other Stories” is loosely based on him.

Charles Pierce is rolling in his grave at what's considered drag these days. RIP Mr. Pierce.

No. Luckily there are some good interviews with him, including Cavett and that bozo Skip E. Lowe, which are very fun floating around. I have seen what got put on video from the shows in the 80s thanks to YouTube as well.

Bea Arthur told a funny story at his funeral. It starts at the 27 minute mark.

I enjoyed him in Designing Women on the cruise episode.

Yes, in the Plush Room in the York Hotel, San Francisco, March 23, 1983.

He was great, very funny.

I wonder if he had a partner. I had no idea that he was born in 1926.

He really got under Bette Davis' skin, likely because he did her better than she did.

Well now I know where Cole Escola's major influence comes from. It's this guy!

Q: What's more boring than a queen doing a Judy Garland imitation?

A: A queen doing a Bette Davis imitation.

That SF act by 1983 was very stiff and he just wasn't funny. The 1970s act was much faster paced and scripted.

I saw Charles Pierce perform a few times at Finocchio's Club in San Francisco. Fantastic memories of the cabaret drag scene from back then (80s), and Pierce was outstanding.

Did ya like it?

by Anonymousreply 12October 21, 2024 6:58 PM

I saw him twice. For some reason I was disappointed that he did the same act the second time.
