The movie trailer

Saw it on the big screen twice. Great film.

by Anonymousreply 2October 18, 2024 10:10 PM

Its pedigree is certainly not that of the average sinister ventriloquist's dummy movie: directed by Richard Attenborough from a screenplay by William Goldman, who adapted his own novel. And it's on Tubi.

It has an excellent score (by Jerry Goldsmith)

by Anonymousreply 4October 18, 2024 10:24 PM

I saw it in the theater when I was a kid. Terrified me and I’ve never liked horror movies since then.

by Anonymousreply 5October 18, 2024 10:45 PM

That trailer is creepy

by Anonymousreply 6October 18, 2024 10:50 PM

Creeped me out as a kid too, and that’s about all I remember.

by Anonymousreply 7October 18, 2024 10:53 PM

I love this movie. It’s very creepy and Hopkins was great.

I liked Ann-Margaret too.

It’s available for free on Tubi.

by Anonymousreply 8October 18, 2024 11:05 PM

I’ve been looking for a good creepy movie. Thanks.

by Anonymousreply 9October 18, 2024 11:21 PM

I too was traumatized by the ads as a kid, they were scary as hell.

by Anonymousreply 10October 18, 2024 11:35 PM

Fats the dummy was quite creepy. Anthony Hopkins has been great since early on in his career.

by Anonymousreply 11October 18, 2024 11:47 PM

Ann-MARGRET

by Anonymousreply 12October 19, 2024 12:24 AM

Saw it when it came out. Anthony Hopkins is always great to watch.

by Anonymousreply 13October 19, 2024 12:38 AM

The newspaper ad used to scare me.

by Anonymousreply 14October 19, 2024 12:47 AM

I might watch this tonight if it’s on Tubi.

by Anonymousreply 15October 19, 2024 12:47 AM

Yeah, at the movie theater. Fell asleep.

by Anonymousreply 16October 19, 2024 12:47 AM

I love Olivia Newton-John's theme song "Magic" from this film. Wasn't it number one for weeks ?

by Anonymousreply 17October 19, 2024 12:50 AM

Can anyone tell me if I can watch this movie on Tubi, please?

by Anonymousreply 18October 19, 2024 1:38 AM

R18 - yes Magic is on Tubi. (All you had to do was go on "Search" on the site.)

by Anonymousreply 19October 19, 2024 1:51 AM

I think I'd seen it back in the VHS era, but didn't find it particularly memorable. I gave it an official sit-down-and-watch-it last year. It was okay, but this ground had been covered before in The Twilight Zone ('The Dummy,' and 'Caesar and Me').

I saw it when it came out and I haven't seen it since.

by Anonymousreply 21October 19, 2024 3:19 AM

Remember watching this circa 1980 on HBO. Babysitting at my brother's place, making Jiffy Mix and getting to watch horror movies. The ten bucks was just the cherry on top.

by Anonymousreply 22October 19, 2024 3:24 AM

I've never seen it, but I remember seeing it in the horror section back when there were video stores.

by Anonymousreply 23October 19, 2024 4:35 AM

Can I watch it on Tubi?

by Anonymousreply 24October 19, 2024 5:12 AM

Yassss, you can!

by Anonymousreply 25October 19, 2024 5:32 AM

I saw it the for the first time on HBO when they had almost all previous theatrical releases. They also aired Wimbledon live. Those were the days.

by Anonymousreply 26October 19, 2024 5:34 AM

Wasn’t this the soundtrack title for the movie?????

R20 there was an earlier ventriloquist dummy episode in the British made anthology Dead of Night (1945).

My family made sure I watched this when it was on television. I would have been 9 or 10.

I had previously sewn a set of legs on an Ernie puppet so I could do ventriloquism. I was most likely obsessive and annoying.

Once I saw this movie, I graduated from all dolls and stuffed toys. I wanted NOTHING in my room that could be possessed.

by Anonymousreply 29October 19, 2024 12:06 PM

Mr marbles’ Mr Markel’s ????

Oh he’s harmless Jerry

by Anonymousreply 30October 19, 2024 12:07 PM

Is this you, Vince?

by Anonymousreply 31October 19, 2024 12:34 PM

I think this is on Tubi.

by Anonymousreply 32October 19, 2024 12:56 PM

Young Anthony Hopkins was such a psycho-sexual stud muffin.

It’s so funny that after the success of the film 10, they paired him with Bo Derek. So random. Probably because Dudley Moore was British, Hopkins was British…I always thought he looked so sexy in the hot tub with Bo Derek but I never saw the him. A Change of Seasons. Sounded dreadful.

by Anonymousreply 33October 19, 2024 12:59 PM

Sounds interesting, but it probably won’t be available anywhere…

by Anonymousreply 34October 19, 2024 1:29 PM

Oh! I thought this was an alternate title for The Jared Kushner Story.

by Anonymousreply 35October 19, 2024 2:02 PM

Is there anywhere I can stream it?

by Anonymousreply 36October 19, 2024 2:43 PM

It’s on Tubi and I’m watching it right now. R36

by Anonymousreply 37October 19, 2024 6:10 PM

Is the first 20 minutes supposed to be boring? Granted, I was tired last night, but I just couldn’t get into it.

by Anonymousreply 38October 19, 2024 8:37 PM

I only have Tubi, so I won’t probably be able to watch it.

by Anonymousreply 39October 19, 2024 9:48 PM

Maybe if enough people campaign we can get Magic on Tubi.

by Anonymousreply 41October 19, 2024 10:56 PM

Thanks op, where can i watch it?!

by Anonymousreply 42October 19, 2024 11:46 PM

Saw it when it first came out and fell in love with Anthony Hopkins.

by Anonymousreply 43October 20, 2024 1:01 AM

Do I need an aerial for Tubi?

by Anonymousreply 44October 20, 2024 1:50 AM

Started watching-Ann Margaret is beautiful and very convincing…

by Anonymousreply 45October 20, 2024 2:43 AM

Ann-Margret is heartbreaking in this movie, but you need to allow the movie to unfold.

by Anonymousreply 46October 20, 2024 2:52 AM

Attenborough grinds along so seriously that there's no suspense, no ambiguity - just the unpleasantness of watching most of the tiny cast being eliminated.

Pauline Kael

by Anonymousreply 47October 20, 2024 2:54 AM

What a hideous puppet.

by Anonymousreply 48October 20, 2024 4:32 AM

This film is for Dummies.

by Anonymousreply 49October 20, 2024 4:37 AM

Film for Dummies!
